  • In this week’s video we visit Sennen Cove near Land’s End, and explore this stunning stretch of the Cornish coastpath around the village.
    Sennen Cove has seen a lot of history over the years with tales of shipwrecks, hauntings, smuggling and royal landings with devious intent!
    Our video is the usual mix of tales, history and merriment plus more wet feet!
    The standard description bit…
    We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
    We love your comments and read all of them. We also answer as many as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot answer comments received more than a week after publication.
    Frequently asked questions:
    What are your dogs called?
    Sorry but we do not release the names of our dogs but perhaps you could make up a name for them!
    What camera do we use?
    Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
    How do I find the books you use?
    Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
    Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
    We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

    There was an old fisherman and lifeboatman that looked after the Roundhouse back in the 70s early 80s who would get quite agitated at the mention of the decline of the pilchard fishing here and frightened the visitors . Not my favourite pub in the area , but enjoyed the First and Last up in Sennen for its extensive chocolate collection , good beer and live music . Chocolate and beer a wonderful combination . The cables are still carrying signals and have been uncovered many times after storms . There are many fake cottages in the area from Sennen South to Lamorna that are the termini stations for the various international cables . If you spot one of these places (and they are quite hard to find for obvious reasons as these cables link the US to Europe , Africa and India) , you can often find the details of the operating nation on the inspection covers on the side of the lanes .

    Ahhhh, the lovely Tinker Tailor Cottage.
    Have been fortunate enough to stay there and Sennen is absolutely beautiful plus there is the wonderful RNLI Station, that we should all support for the immense work that they do.

    I only found your chanell a short while ago and I am very much enjoying your video's. I think it was in 1982 I was staying in Karn Key's the old black fishing cottage at the back of the beach.
    At the endof our stay the weather turned overcast and my friend and I took a walk on the beach for a break from hauling our luggage up the hill to the car. The Lifeboat was a little offshore with a crowd of people on the aft deck. All of a sudden there was a small hole in the low cloud and a shaft of sunlight broke through and produced an effect on the sea like a spotlight. The spot of light moved over the sea and seemed to linger at the back of the Lifeboat. Then it moved off quite fast towards the horizon and was lost to view. We looked at each other and agreed that what we had just seen was a little strange. Anyway later on we went for a last drink in the old success, and mentioned at the bar the odd thing we had seen, a hush fell in the bar and someone to the side said what did you think you had seen? Because today we took the ashes of an old lifeboatman out in the bay and scattered them off the back of the lifeboat. I still get a chill when I think of that story, and I swear that that is a true story, I would not make light of such a thing.

    We’ve been visiting Sennen for over 50 years…..and, after living up a Spanish mountain for the last 20 years, are returning to live there to our house in Maria’s Lane in January. A good spot for our final move I think! 👍🍷

    Aw yes visited many times. Lovely to see it on here. We often have the fish and chips from the front chippy or have been in the pub. Like looking around the round house though hardly ever buy anything. There used to be more shops a few years ago. Thanks for the dose of Cornwall

    I spent part of my honeymoon at The Old Success back in 1980. A friend of mine had a place in Maria's Lane. His name was Jack Nash he owned the house that Jack built on Plymouth Barbican. He was a great friend and supporter of Robert Lenkiewicz the Plymouth artist.

    Love the way Andrew flips his feet and shakes a leg when he has got wet feet, it looks as though he has had an accident :))
    Sennen Cove is just a wonderful with lots of memories over the years; I was on the beach back in 1977 listening to my radio when they announced that Elvis had died. Over the years I have been back many times for walks up and down the SWCP, enjoyed a bit of storm watching and generally just chilling.

    I adore your Cornish beach walks! In the 1870s, women of means wore dresses with bustles at the back, and their hair in 'topknots', so the Irish Lady has the bun at the top, her head below, and the Victorian bustle dress fanning out at the back. (I made one of these dresses when I was a bridesmaid in my friend's Victorian-style Christmas wedding, so the image hit me right away.) The smuggling stories are always great, and this one sounded just like something from Poldark, down to the Cornish jury acquitting on smuggling charges. Whenever one of my cats steps in water, they do just what Andrew did...eww, my feets R wet! :( It can be a little shock to hear the name of a place that's half way around the world, yet the same as one where you live. I recall my English cousin writing that he'd gone surfing in Cardiff, and it took me a minute to realize he meant in Wales. Cardiff-by-the Sea is a popular surf location here in S. CA! :)

    Fantastic walk with stunning scenery, amazing ocean sounds and fascinating history! Absolutely made my day 😊You've brought back some wonderful recollections ~ several years ago I was in Sennen, and witnessed the biggest & brightest most intensely coloured double-rainbow I'd ever seen over that bay.

My cousin had her wedding reception at "The Old Success" the first time in a long time when all of our Cornish relatives were together. Oh, you left Mr. Scrumptious behind today! 🐕 But managed to get a surprise visit from another doggy along the way! It's not a walk on the beach unless you get soggy shoes though, or sand in them at least 👞👞 👟👟 Long time since we went to Sennen but vague memories of long hot days on the beach there when the girls were little. Great commentary from both of you with the history books...and giggled at the Outtakes! 🙂Shades of Poldark smuggling in every part of Cornwall. Mr. Poldark himself is currently playing a rather different part in The Suspect on ITV!! Just wait til Mr. Scrumptious part 1 and 2 can play together on beaches like this one. Hope you are both enjoying his company! x J x

    Another Interesting Gem, I’m sure I have visited Sennen Cove donkey’s years ago, don’t remember the Irish Lady Rock! Looking at it it does capture the imagination and would look very spooky in the mist 🌫 the first thing I saw was a penguin sitting on the top! heartbreaking 💔 story about the young woman loosing her lover 😢 fabulous scenery and the sound of the emerald green surf coming in is captivating even though Andrew got soggy shoes! one thing I do remember is the cables leading into the sea from a building near to the beach, not sure if it’s still there! I’m looking forward to meeting ‘Truffle’ again when he is allowed out, what adventures are in store for him and his mate! Andrew lost for words ‘Never’ 😂🤣😂 thanks again both of you 🙏 lovely commentary Sarah 🤗

    Aww you guys are amazing! We're on holiday in Praa Sands (from Bude) and discovered your awesome vids whilst researching the areas... Turns out I was at Sennen Cove on the same day as you shot this! I was there in the afternoon in top car park attempting to launch my hang glider... The wind was not in the right direction however so I had to come back yesterday (25.09.22) where I managed to get in a nice hour flight over the cliffs...
    Have you been to Prussia Cove? It's a truly special place and you guys would do an amazing walk about video of that - it's steeped in smuggling tales and the place has hardly changed since 300 years ago seemingly... magical spot -

    Hi Sarah and Andrew. Today, my wife Tracey and I are in Looe! In fact, we'll be in Cornwall until Saturday Oct 1st. We've brought out maps and walking route books, plus our walking boots and we'll be re-watching some of your East Cornwall vlogs and maybe trying one or two of them like we recently did. Me might not go as far as Sennen Cove, but at least we won't get our shoes and feet wet, Andrew hahaha. Anyway, our Cornish adventure begins... Regard, 'Devon Tony' and Tracey :-)

    Beautiful Sennen Cove and the surrounding area 😍 I remember well the Irish Lady cliff from 2019 when I walked there. But I thought she survived from a shipwreck and managed to cling to this cliff for a while, but lost her grip and drowned before anyone could save her. Well, I am probably wrong, but she will surely be haunting this place anyway 🙂👻. What an exciting story about the huge amount of contraband. The late Canadian actor Christopher Plummer, who played baron von Trapp in The Sound of Music, he was born more than 100 years after 1805 and was probably never connected to smuggling in Sennen Cove 🤣🤣🤣 Genever is known as the national spirit of the Netherlands. I quite like it and it is not very unlike the Italian Grappa in my opinion. I hope Andrew's shoes are dry and have not been ruined by the salt and sand. This was an interesting and beautiful video. My wish is for a video of you swimming in Nanjizal cave 😄

    The 'Mr Trip' pun was a 'step' too far! --- Was the '1691' plaque on the wall referring to the amount of puns that Andrew has come out with since you started this channel ? --- I have been visiting Sennen Cove since the 1960's. Porthcurno was the main area for our telegraph cables reaching out across the globe to the British Empire as you know. BUT did you know, that hidden all around Cornwall ( in innocent looking highly secure buildings, and under the roads and lanes ) is a vast modern telecommunications network spreading across the globe, used by our GCHQ, MI6, the American security services, and the security services of all our allies, and all our spies! There are a few videos on You Tube about it, even showing you exactly where they are, and many things hidden under manhole covers ( with the photos and videos as proof ) It was Mark Thomas who did a series on it all ages ago, It is of the most amazing stuff hidden ALL OVER Cornwall. It will blow your mind!! Nothing we do is not seen by our intelligence communities!! Here are just 2 of the many videos about it!! th-cam.com/video/6kT1cn5Od-Y/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/K_nnUbX7uuQ/w-d-xo.html Scary stuff!! 1984 came true, and watches us all. 😱😱😱

    • @CornishWalkingTrails
      @CornishWalkingTrails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bet its not just Cornwall!! We knew that they are upgrading the cables into Morwenstow, where there is a satelite station that is similar to Goonhilly. Sarah :)

    • @bobbybigboyyes
      @bobbybigboyyes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CornishWalkingTrails It is all mainly in Cornwall Sarah. I must admit I don't know of Morwenstow. I have not heard of it, though I have been to the satellite station and seen King Arthur and the others on a tour of Goonhilly many years ago. A fascinating place with a model of Sir Clive Sinclair's 'C5' if you remember it, along with the ZX Spectrum he invented. The C5 was also way ahead of it's time but a disaster, like some of Andrew's puns Lol. Talking of Andrew's the disgraced Prince Andrew flew Sea King helicopters that were based from the Culdrose base in Cornwall, and we all know what laughter his comments caused on Newsnight. Porthcurno has a fascinating history of telecommunications stretching back to our old British Empire right up to the modern day. And as we now see, Lizard Truss has now destroyed everything we stood for. It sporting terms the word 'Truss' means something ( I shall use the polite word here rather than the 'B' one ) that contains 'Nuts' LOL !! And Cornwall is still the hub of major security and defence communications across the globe. I used to work for the M.O.D. and learnt of many of our other secrets, some of which are mindblowing! Have a great day the both of you! xx 😁🥰
