Wow, you get even more crap than me :D I never got stuck with a customs fee. Love hearing your thoughts on this but I will miss your reviews and thoughts on this stuff. If you ever change your mind and jump back in to reviews I got your back :D
Is there any reason we can't ask to be paid to do the review and still do a good job? There is ALWAYS a reason to have a biased opinion and self serve, yet a lot of people like Brad and yourself don't alter the truth even if you're given a tablet or paid by the company. I think we keep trying to protect against the lie that getting paid to do our jobs causes us to lie. It's a reality that people lie, but youtubers that SELL a companies products should be thought of as professionals able to be paid like professionals and still produce honest, trustworthy reviews.
@@ARandomMonitor I absolutely agree that the likelihood of falling into the trap is greater when you think you are "untrappable". My main point is that getting paid to do a review doesn't equal biased untruthful review. I believe we are on the same page on that point, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm saying that it can be done correctly with intelligent checks and balances without resorting to "reviewers should only review products they personally pay for". I don't think that's a sustainable business and if it is, that's because in some roundabout way the reviewer IS still getting paid for the review even if it's not that company paying them. Which can still cause bias. Here is the long and short of it for me. I've seen countless people never even start attempting to do good things because their motivation wasn't perfect yet. It's likely it never will be perfect or that we will ever actually be unbiased completely. But THAT'S OKAY. That's why we watch multiple reviews from various biases or just find someone who has the same biases as us so we end up with a product we like. 😊 Btw, you didn't come across at all as angry or insulting. you made a lot of good points. Hopefully I also don't come across wrong. Capitalization used to emphasize the words not to text yell. Brad, sorry about highjacking your kind and considerate comment to Crowne Prince. Was kind of hoping you would read my comment and reconsider your position on doing reviews. May be beneficial to get a bunch of us tech reviewers into a conversation somewhere and establish some education and standards to improve the situation for everyone, reviewers and manufacturers.
Tablet Pro Tablet Pro I do agree people need to make money, people have to eat, after all. The place that money comes from can affect the work you do though. When it’s through a group of viewers who you’re providing the reviews for, in general that provides a better environment for unbiased - or at leased consumer biased - reviews. Granted it’s not a guarantee, and I can think of a few examples where following the fans has actually caused it’s own issues, but it’s a better position at least. Totally agree with you on the motivation bit. I’d love to make art but trying to draw anything is very stressful for me because I can see what I want yet feel how utterly awful my own work is, and there’s nothing immediate I can do about it. On a somewhat related note, I wish that was the focus of shows that try to tell you you can do anything. Everyone already knows it takes hard work to get what you want, but if you tell a strong artist to draw with their off-hand, even they aren’t going to last long. They have the exact same almost physical repulsion to their work that I do when I try to draw, it’s crazy. There’s something about that they managed to get over at one time, and that’s the part people like me need help with.
to be fair , a good tablet lasts you 10 years , so theres no need for these rweviews anyways , one good review is better than 100´s of advertisement disguised as reviews
I've literally seen reviews by traditional artists for tablets. I've heard reviews where they say "I've never used a drawing tablet before, but this one seems really good!" Like, why should I trust a tablet review by someone who only has a few hours of experience?
I gave up doing product reviews after working with Disney, so many demands and loopholes, the amount of time needed to fix their demands was heavily eating into my proper videos.
Damn, so glad I came across this video... I got contacted by a tablet company recently asking me to do the exact same thing, and being a naive first timer I agreed, even though I really want to focus on my planned animation. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us, you just saved a fruit from being sucked into this hellish vortex :D
@@ahshitherewegoagain7461 Oh shiii you know me? :D tbh I lost a bit motivation to do the review after watching this video, but still do it anyway, glad it's over now
Oh hi! I haven't watched your stuff in years but those creepypasta videos were so fun! Glad to know you're still active, I'mma watch your recent videos now
I appreciate the shout out and I'm glad you shared your own personal experiences with tablet reviews. Great advice for anyone who is looking at reviews or creating them.
You started this Aaron :). I'm glad that you are finally being vindicated after the garbage you received both from ignorant users, and other reviewers when you first called out how crappy these companies were. I knew from the beginning that you were right because I was screwed up by two of these chinese knockoffs. If only you have released your review a little earlier. :_)
Another reason why I find it difficult to trust youtubers who review tablets is the fact that some will inevitably say only positive aspects of the product to please the company in hopes to receive more free products in the future. It's honestly disheartening to see up and coming art channels make reviews and give high praise to products that honestly don't deserve it because they are worried about their bottom line. I honestly tend to just look for random amateurs who upload reviews for products I want because I know they spent their own money and they tend to be waaaay more honest about the products themselves.
@Ath Collins I don't have a specific channel because any channel dedicated to reviews are probably biased anyways. Just look for reviews of tablets/products you're interested but make sure the user has actually paid for it that way you'll know they are invested.

4:00 Ok real talk, I had no idea that's what the metal ring inside my nib holder is for. Thank god I never threw it away! I thought it was just a random piece in there to support the structure of the foam the nibs are in XD
Me: is getting a Huion HS64 The comment section: let me tell you the time my Huion tablet killed my family.. *Me:PANIK* Update: it works pretty well on my laptop, it works well on phone as well Definitely would recommend it, it's cheap, light and portable It's been 2-3 months since i got it XD
Ok it CAME. So far it's actually pretty good. My first one so cant compare but it's pretty good. Better than how I used to do things. Still getting used to it.
@@ebiisauce1448 yes defidently, just gotta find the right drawing app if you want to use it on your phone. Everything is working properly and it fits my for my needs since drawing is just a hobby of mine.
Not really , scanning pencil drawings to draw in multiple layers is very tedious Also, erasing irl is nowhere near as awesome as digital stuff (with undo button right there alongside the selection tools allowing you to try and experiment new stuff)
About time someone started spilling the T on this stuff. I feel it is especially important for younger viewers and new content creators to be aware of these sorts of issues.
Amazon and sites like that have surprisingly loose rules on reviews. I work for a construction company and we've had reviews removed from our Yelp pages just because the customer said that we asked them to write a review (we didnt tell them what to say or how to rate us in any way). I've heard about some products on Amazon having terms attached with the "free product" that can be shocking restrictive like requiring perfect scores and crap like that. They want an artist to do $1000 in advertising for them in return for a $100 product. This is why im always suspicious of any online review videos where someone just rambles on about how perfect their product is.
@@yuugael4010 it's horrible. it's a 50/50 chance if it will work for you or not based on your computer, and even then the cables are horrible and it's not compatible (it will glitch) with many art programs
@@yuugael4010 That's risky, dude. Try buying cheap wacom models OR secondhand cheap wacom models that's in your budget range. That way, you lose nothing. Edit: I suggest One by Wacom or an old Intuos Model. Saving up for something that will last long is worthwhile imo.

@@couchpotatomakesart7307 I visited ur channel. The quality isn't awful but it ain't good either... I wish you all the luck and stop spamming. (Your art is cool but the quality of the VIDEO isn't good)
I tried to replace my small, old Wacom Bamboo Fun with another competitor brand. Big mistake. The pen tip was so wobbly (it feathered way too much) and the surface was far too smooth -> which may be great for gaming like OSU, but for the love of god, try to do a lot of detailed freehand drawing on that thing and you'll get a cramp because you need to focus mind and muscles thrice as usual. The 8k pen pressure for a pen tablet may be nice, but that won't do justice if the drawing haptics are just crap.
I wanted to buy a Huion once, as because a friend once recommended it. But I was curious by the price point "Is that thing even good?" so I ended up buying a Wacom Intuos S. Just by the build quality and the natural feeling and especially the fact I didn't even have one error with tablet drivers I was glad to just get extra money for it. Still have it working to this day.
@@CnithTheOnliestOne They used to; Surface 2's have wacom digitizers and there's an unofficial driver from Wacom devs. Surface 3 onward is N-Trig though!
This reminds me a lot of how Nintendo tried to control reviews over their video games using the brand ambassador program. You would sign up and get review copies of the games you wanted to review, but when your video was up Nintendo would get like 2 thirds of the money that video makes and not to mention they could just terminate your program if you said something they didn’t like. The alternative was to put a review up without the program only for it to be copyrighted by Nintendo allowing them to get all the money.

Oof, sorry you had to deal with that BS. My understanding is that this is pretty common with companies throughout the tech industry, not just with drawing tablet companies. It's a disgusting practice, what they do, and if it's not illegal already then it really should be.
It might just be a recent "major uptick" in the visibility of tech' companies... BUT I think it's worth pointing out that marketing practices have been shady as hell for generations across the board. That's not to say every company out there is full of BS just because they approach you... There are genuinely decent people EVEN in marketing. Bottom line??? Never EVER decide you want a fancy toy so bad you willingly jump backward through fiery hoops to get it... ;o)
Oh no, they ask you to do something which you can say "No" too, send you free stuff, have guidelines you can ignore, offer things you can negotiate with, and the worst they can do is just stop sending you free things. Good golly how oppressive.

I've recently bought a xp-pen deco 01 v2 tablet, i just watched reviews in spanish and english that weren't really from popular people, just a honest and personal opinion of the tablet. I might not know anything about what tablets are better or worse, but i've fallen in love with the first one i bought, it's really nice and easy to work with despite me never having one before, and the fact that it was pretty cheap for that quality comparing it to others is the cherry on top
I bought the same one last year, I wanted something basic, inexpensive and would handle decently drawing. It's got a few hiccups but gets the job done.
Fantastic video. My experience also 100% reflects yours. I did my first tablet review a few weeks ago, but before that I rejected 4 companies who tried to get me to give them 5-star reviews, buy the product myself (and then "maybe perhaps who knows" refund me), only gave me a week to do a review (which...Why....? Do they think their tablet is going to break after more than a week?)...etc.....Absolutely shady and generally dishonest. My relationship to my viewers and respecting the trust they have in me will always be my priority over getting free products. This topic was important, thank you for covering it!
(Not sure how to fit this in, but I'm on a laptop and google chrome 100% zoom)The reason most of us were fooled was that we couldn't see the review part of the title. The title I saw was "I'm Quitting: Painful Truth About Drawing Tablet.." the dots were normal on his videos because of his thing at the end of his titles and with the context, I at least read the title as I'm Quitting: Painful Truth About Drawing TabletS. That made me think A."Please don't tell me you're actually quitting," and B."What's so bad about drawing tablets?". Well at least I'm informed about this. I really wish he tested out his titles to see if they weren't clickbaity to a majority of his audience.
Cool I agree with what you say. I’ve been doing product placements for a while now, and you do really need to watch out. If all creators valued their time, we would get what we deserve. The average cost per view to advertise on youtube is between 3c and 30c per view. I won’t take on a product unless it suits my content and I’m paid $1200 for it plus the free product.
thank you for this!! wish I saw this before I started getting offers lol. I did one review and it was nice because I was able to give the tablet away to someone who needed it but it took more work than I expected. I'm not doing any more in the future unless they're offering a screen tablet lmao

Thank you so much! Your videos are just what we need! Props especially for this one. A lot of artists are paid to do product reviews and they influence us, not with the real information but given us what they are asked for. Have a nice 2021, Wishes here from Brazil!
You forgot to mention you get stuck with a bunch of junk you don't want to even give away. Or the fact that you get 100 emails a day to review completely random junk like blenders and cell phone chargers. LOL...
1 week after receiving? Some tablets issues get detected like 1 month later. If I'd make a review, I'd want to have worked with the tablet at least for a while. For example: "Huion cables turned out too short" or "The pen needed to be charged too much" etc.
When you showed the part with the screen at 1:39 I cringed so badly tablets like those are a big no for me. It makes me feel like I'm going to break it.
These tips apply to not only tablet but any product reviews, some companies want to have way too much control and leverage to get you to work, advertise their product their way for free and alter honest review and skew actual impressions
Every time I look for reviews on a tablets, I aaaaallways trust those tech channels and not popular artists bc most tech channels have experience with them and they usually aren’t sponsored
I was asked to review something along the lines of face paint and I asked them if it would be alright if I told my honest opinion of the product and they stopped messaging me lol.

Thank you for the insight! I hope other artists with larger online platforms watch this and are aware of what boundaries to put up, exploitation is sadly rife in our industry.
I experienced having drawing tablet companies to send me those “beginner” product models because they criticize me for being a “NEWBIE” to digital art. I may be an artist with an art medium adaptive trait but I do have a background with doing digital art and it doesn’t mean that I am completely unknowledgeable about it.🤷🏻♀️🤣
I may call my digital skills moderate or acceptable but we, artists, also got a pride with our creativity and having a company to criticize your digital knowledge as a “Newb” hits more differently 😭🤣
Oof, didn't know the product testing was a thing for reviewers. Glad to see someone with a following using their channel as a psa. Keep up the good work

Honestly I wish you had made this earlier when I was going on a tablet hunt. You made the huion H264 review around the same time my tablet broke on me. I was so, so tempted to get that tablet based on your review, and the price that I had to step back a bit and worry about longevity, and other cons that would come with a budget tablet company. I ended up getting a second hand wacom, but still, happy to see you come out with this info!
Crowne! You scared us so bad! Thank goodness you're not quitting. I was actually thinking of buying a tablet one of my favorite you tubers reviewed but now I know the truth. Thank you for making this informative video!
If it's your first one, just get a Wacom anyway. Their cheap ones might look like short on features but you can always just use keyboard shortcuts to do things. What matters is that the drawing experience is quite solid.
@Ath Collins I don't think it matters that much when coming to choosing from intro level Wacom stuffs. If you feel it fits your need, just go ahead. But if you are asking which size to pick, you shouldn't run into any issue with the small size unless you are on a large 4K display, and smaller means more ergonomic. Though if you already feel difficult writing smaller text you might want to get a bigger one.
this was my first time using graphics tablet so idk if it's amazing or ok but one thing's for sure, it works. i've been using it for only four months but i haven't experienced any major issues yet. i bought the huion h640p for around 46USD but it's pretty good for my newbie standards. there was one annoying minor issue that i kept having whenever i use it on my laptop. idk if it's my usb port's fault but it kept disconnecting and reconnecting. anyways, it wasn't really a huge deal, i got used to it. it was also compatible with android devices since it came with a micro usb and type-c adapter. for now, im pretty happy with my purchase. i just hope that it will last for a long time.

Aw, you're one of the most honest tablet reviews out there and I enjoyed how you're not afraid to make direct comparisons and not leave out any pros or flaws and all. As someone in PR/Marketing, I need to point out that any company requesting you purchase the product yourself on Amazon, and does not request you disclose in your review that you were compensated for the tablet is breaking FTC guidelines. For anyone working with a company, if there is compensation or even the hint that there might be compensation for your review, that needs to be disclosed upfront. Verbally and at the start if it's a video. Clearly worded so even your grandma would understand if it's a posted review. Any company that's not asking you this - worse, any company requesting that you don't do this - is a shady player and you ought to report them to the FTC by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP
People saying they regret buying Huion why? I've been using my Huion h950p for two years now for animation and digital art and it still works perfectly. I only changed my pen nibs twice and even then there are no noticeable scratches on the surface. Compare that to it's equivalent Wacom intuos which costs twice as much with half the buttons missing (huion h950p has 8 wacom int has 4) also has a smaller surface area and pen pressure is also low. Just take care of your devices. I clean it every use and store it in its box everytime im done using it. edit: i forgot to mention h950p has tilt functionality all those features for $50.
Huion seems to have 50/50 chance of getting a quality tablet and when the tablets aren’t the good ones they seem to suffer from serious issues (one comment says theirs caught fire). I also personally use the Wacom Intuos in the small size and It is amazing (feels natural, high quality, bluetooth, tilt support and a good size for what I draw) I don’t have issues with the fact it has only 4 buttons since I don’t use shortcut keys. Though it seems to really depend on what side of 50/50 spectrum you’re on.
@@turtle7898 I dont believe in that 50/50 bullsht because if it was that high of a chance to break then Huion would be out of business by now. You all are acting like Wacom doesn't break or its like the god of tablets. I just don't like wacom's price to performance because to me it feels like a rip off when you can have better deals else where. I would even say Apple's Ipad pro + apple pencil is a better deal because you can do many things on an ipad.
After I shared a video on how to make my phone a speaker phone for the classroom, I've been sent so many requests on reviewing products such as microphones. Making one video just to help other teachers took a ton of my time, and I wasn't paid, so I have always said no to future videos. If I really need something, I'm more than happy to pay for it, and not deal with tasks that follow up. I don't think many companies would send me a high end product to try and compete with both my iPad Pro and Cintiq Companion 2. They'd start off with basic tablets anyway (as you also mentioned). Thanks for this video! Reviewing products isn't all it's cracked up to be in my opinion (and I used to review products quite often, but I've retired over this summer).
I commend you for bringing awareness to other reviewers and to buyers. A lady of integrity. Now, putting that aside, I wish I knew where your reviews of tablets are. I'm working with an older Mac, Photoshop, and Wacom intuos pen tablet for doing my caricatures. Perhaps it's my shaky ole hand or? (Have settings done correctly) I can't get smooth lines drawing, I do not use the pen function, as it seems others do to get straight smooth lines, as I want to draw like having pen and paper using brush function. I toyed with a newer, inexpensive tablet, but money is tight. Am leery about reviews. Besides it may be that all pen tablets out there might still have the same issue for me.
This isn't an attempt nor a paid thing to mention. But i like IBIS Paint app on Android and Iphone (i use iphone for it's Pressure sensitivity mechanic only available on iphone) that has many options to use and good material/ background material patterns for a simple background. I wish they make a PC an Mac download for it. but i got no luck. it has a free unlimited time trial with limited brushes. But the full thing is like, $7 one time purchase per account for all brushes . there is like 3 other options but that's a monthly subscription which i don't believe it's worth it. only gives Tone Curve, gradation map and cloud. Just give the app a try and play around with it. if it's not your liking, then that's fine. your choice. If you do like it, try the $7 one. I think it was worth the cash.
I use ibisPaint X for art and animation (which also uses other apps) and I love it, and don’t have to pay anything (I just watch the video for the extra brushes).
Thanks for the heads up! I don’t ever plan or expect to receive a free tablet or anything when I start an actual, real channel in the future, but it’s good to know.
I appreciate this video. I've been looking into getting into digital art and I noticed certain brands (that seemed to have better reviews and prices) were untouched in some videos.
Thanks for the shout out, I knew every time the artists do review some tablets it seems not right to me... It's always have good reviews, the critic just a few or none. I'm always look up to my friends who bought it themselves, so I trust their reviews instead or some artists/people with honest reviews about the tablets without company marketing behind them (I need to read some blogs or watch some videos before deciding that the tablet I'm looking for are good).
Your Brutal Honesty is only going to help many people who are passionate about drawing. And I am glad that you exposed some companies who exploit such new customers. Hats off to you. Great Job!👍
I knew you weren't quitting animation or TH-cam, because I read the title carefully like a smart boy. Now, I demand a cookie for this insignificant consideration!
I will not deal with xp pen 🖊 ever again !!! They tried to do the reimbursement after I bough it deal. So they can get extra feedback on amazon. I told them no. They immediately sent me an xp pen 12 for free to review. 😂then They wanted me to change my honest review that pointed out some downfalls of the product compared to other tablets I have used. I told them no and they responded asking me to ship the tablet back. I would have to pay $15 for shipping. At this point I decided to just not send it and wait to see if they emailed me again. We’ll see what happens but XP pen never again never 👎 I’m tempted to post the review :) since it took 6 hours to film and edit.
Thanks for this. I've been looking at reviews lately with an eye towards buying my first tablet monitor and I've been having a hard time finding one that doesn't seem to be influenced by the reviewer having received perks from the company. You mention Aaron Rutten, who I first became aware of some years ago as a Painter instructor. I watched some of his tablet review videos yesterday and found he was heavily biased towards Wacom. He did a 3-part video and not one tablet was from any other company besides Wacom. Yes, Wacom was the first on the market and has a huge user base, particularly among professionals, but it would be nice to have unbiased reviews that give consideration to tablet that are more affordable to people who don't make money from their art. One other thing that bothered me is, Aaron disabled comments on the videos, so I couldn't even ask a question. Anyway, thanks again for telling it like it is.
I'm glad you made a video regarding this matter, I'm a first timer in buying drawing tablets so I guess I really need to be conscious about my favorite artists reviews, Thanks!
My parents got me a Huion tablet some years ago and at the time I got it I mainly used it for osu!. It was fine for that purpose, but when I recently got into digital art, I noticed that I just needed something more. I do plan to get an iPad Air 4th gen with the apple pencil when it does come out because I trust that Apple can create a better drawing experience (for me at least since I'm too deep into their ecosystem) than any Huion can. I do plan to do more things other than art on the iPad (notes, school work that can be done on it, content consumption, stuff like that), but the art aspect of the iPad is drawing me closer and closer to getting one. The tablet I have is the Huion H420 and I just don't really like using it for art.
Around the time when all the huion reviews were running wild I was looking for a good screen tablet and I was persuaded by my favorite youtubers videos to get one 😔I was so gullible omg
I am quitting screen tablets full stop for use in my pipeline as a professional artist! I have been appalled how quickly they are decommissioned and are no longer supported by operating systems on the Apple Mac for instance. I recently sold a Wacom Cintiq 27QHD, not had it too long from being new. The driver was no longer supported and I could not update my Apple Mac OS otherwise I would not be able to use the Cintiq. I needed to upgrade my Mac OS as I was having issues with my iMac, catch 22 situation. Also, they have a a colour management calibration unit which is still being sold. It was design for use with the Cintiq 27QHD, it is no longer supported. These companies push you to buy new equipment and outdate your own equipment very quickly. I have gone back to a Wacom Intuos tablet and feel so much better for it. Out of the rat race for to a certain extent, far less problems and equipment failure worries.
When I was a kid, I used to dream of having many tablets. Especially because my former best friend owned many, not a reviewers tho, just plain spoiled rotten. Up to the point she owned almost one tablet per app she used cause “This one works better here than there” I specifically remember her claiming one of her tablets had pressure sensitivity on the original Tegakie, she felt like the ultimate goddess because of it. Now a days I can’t imagine myself with more than one tablet, if my tiny intuos breaks, I’ll try to upgrade to something better, but in the meantime, I’m ok with one…

Btw, you didn't come across at all as angry or insulting. you made a lot of good points.
@@TabletPro your comment is out of no where--
to be fair , a good tablet lasts you 10 years , so theres no need for these rweviews anyways , one good review is better than 100´s of advertisement disguised as reviews

I would even say Apple's Ipad pro + apple pencil is a better deal because you can do many things on an ipad.
cx I’ve heard a lot more about Huions breaking then Wacoms so some type of quality issue must be present with some of the Huion tablets.
Huion is cheap crap, I’ve had my Kamvas 13 replaced three times and they still had the same issues. Made an instant switch to XP Pen after that.

Same, I love the app.
I use ibisPaint X for art and animation (which also uses other apps) and I love it, and don’t have to pay anything (I just watch the video for the extra brushes).
In my mind there are 3 drawing tablet companies, Huion, Waccom, and XP pen. Everyone else is a scam
So according to your independent thoughts, which drawing tablet do you love the most?
Thanks for the heads up! I don’t ever plan or expect to receive a free tablet or anything when I start an actual, real channel in the future, but it’s good to know.
I appreciate this video. I've been looking into getting into digital art and I noticed certain brands (that seemed to have better reviews and prices) were untouched in some videos.
Why is this sassy wolf trying to teach me the pitfalls of capitalism?
Wait, did people just skim over parts of the title and assume you were quitting??🤣🤣🤣🤣 lolol but anyways, great video!
At least for me, I could not see the review when I clicked, and I don't read titles after I click on the video.
On my tablet feed, the full title didnt show until I actually clicked. Im pretty sure thats why we assumed that
The way it’s worded may confuse some people. It confused me a few times until I read it over.

First words : "I'm quitting"
Everyone's early reaction: 😱😱😱 #dies.
Great Job!👍
Tablet companies: And I OOP-
I knew you weren't quitting animation or TH-cam, because I read the title carefully like a smart boy.
Now, I demand a cookie for this insignificant consideration!
We all deserve cookies
im finally not alone
You just low key exposed almost all of the companies that sell drawing tablets, 😂 I love it!
You thought she was quitting art, BUT IT WAS ME, DIO!

The tablet I have is the Huion H420 and I just don't really like using it for art.
there's always a war between critics and businesses. Drawing Tablet companies are your enemy.
Wow, I always thought you reviewers got paid at least a little sum of money.
They dont?
Well, you could sell the tablet as lightly used if you don't like it, I guess!
Around the time when all the huion reviews were running wild I was looking for a good screen tablet and I was persuaded by my favorite youtubers videos to get one
😔I was so gullible omg
is it good.........??? what was your experience like?
@@angelbiscuits I have a Huion and it's SHIT
