Doctor Reviews Mitch Trubisky Shoulder Injury and Shoulder Dislocations

  • Chicago Bears QB Mitch Trubisky injured his non throwing shoulder during NFL week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings. We haven't gotten official word on his exact injury but he was ruled out of the game and was wearing a sling on the sidelines. The play he was injured on is a common mechanism we can see with shoulder dislocations, and that is the fear for Trubisky. In this video I'll explain shoulder dislocations and the other injuries that can happen with them, such as labral tears.

    I like that you're confident enough to make a video that includes some speculation as to the extent of the injury rather than waiting for the official diagnosis and delaying the video.

      @Chandler Russell He's smart for doing just that. And as a guy who just had labrum repair surgery, he's spot on with everything he said. I think it's cool he did a breakdown on this injury. A lot of times these things happen and the teams are so hush hush about it and you're curious as to how extensive the damage actually was. I think Trubisky has a long road ahead of him regardless of if he does PT or decides to go the surgery route. If this doc is making money as another avenue of income then good for him, hes not spreading gibberish around the internet...

    Back in high school I played sports like football and wrestling and a high pain tolerance, so when I dislocated my shoulder and tore my labrum in the beginning of my senior year I wouldn’t tell anyone and just pop it back in myself, over that year I dislocated my shoulder maybe 20-30 times. when I finally went a doctor he was shocked. My labrum healed but it was now deformed and my entire shoulder joint had so many bone chips in the socket for the dislocation and readjusting I did even after 2 major surgery’s the doctors said that my shoulder would kinda be messed up for the rest of my life and I would have a bunch of problems when I get old. Long story please don’t be the tough guy with sports. If something hurts and doesn’t feel right GO TO THE TRAINER/ DOCTOR. Your health should always be first and not what you want to achieve.

    • @michaelgorilla9910
      @michaelgorilla9910 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sebastian Gallegos take what I say with a grain of salt because I am no doctor or nurse. If you already had your surgery and have done all your proper rehab with your trainers then it’s all green lights. I know you must have heard it a million times now but if your still in pain or you still feel unstable like it’s gonna pop out at any minute then you should take time and look into getting extra help from trainers and doctors because it can never hurt to be extra cautious especially coming back from an injury. A quick tip I can give you is if your shoulder hurts but you can’t tell if it’s that serious or not you can get down and to do 10 push-ups. If you can get them all done with no problem then your most likely fine and that’s a good sign that your shoulder is alright. This is your body and you have to live with it for the rest of your life so take care of it. Don’t let your teammate or coaches push you around, if your still hurt speak up and they’ll understand. The mental part is just as big as the physical part too. If you mentally feel like you might pop your shoulder out again if you reach out for a tackle and don’t reach out, then your gonna look like crap on film day and the coaches will get on your ass for it. Take ALOT of reps in practice to get your confidence back and even ask some of your friends/ teammate to stay an extra 20 Minutes and hold up the tackle dummies for you so you can get used to reaching out and wrapping up. But agin don’t push to hard. If your gonna play with that brace that goes around your shoulder and chest so you can’t raise your arm to high make sure you get the trainers to help you put it on before every practice and game just to be safe. Your probably a tough guy just like I was in high school and have a high pain tolerance but understand that playing while being in pain and playing while injured are 2 completely different things. My best friend and teammate in high school who was better than me, so much better that he received a full ride offer from the university of Miami heading into his senior year to be their long snapper/ special teams/ 3rd string Defense End. He had shoulder issues just like me but decided to ignore them and play his senior year to see if he could get any more D-1 offers. He made it through the first 2 games before the pain was to much and had to go to the doctor. He needed surgery right away because not only was his labrum torn as well along with bone chips in his shoulder joint, but he also completely and badly tore his rotator cuff. If he continued to play their was a real possibility that his ligaments would have deformed when they healed and received permanent nerve damage in his shoulder and side of his neck for the rest of his life. Since the surgery was major their needed to under the knife twice to clean everything up and make and work on sections at a time. He was looking at almost a year of recover time before he could get cleared for full contact again. The university of Miami pulled his offer because they didn’t want to waste a roster stop on someone who couldn’t play his freshman year. He turned out okay because their were D-2 schools that also offers him full rides but Miami was his only D-1 offer and he’s still bummed out about it to this day and wishes he or someone would have just stoped him and sat out his senior year so he could have the chance to play for
      Miami. I just wanted to tell that story as an example that their are times where just toughen it out is not the right choice. Your smarter than me and my friend were because you have already been to the doctor and gotten your proper treatment. Just ease back into your sports and don’t just go all out the first day back. Theirs things after high school too, weather it’s taking your skills to the next level and going to and playing in college, going into the military/ navy/ Air Force, or just going straight into the work force that you need a 100% healthy body and mind to do. I hope that you get all you want from your time in high school with regional and state championships I’m sure you’ll do great but always remember consistency is the biggest key to success in sports and come back from injury’s. Stay on top of you therapy/ stretches/ and exercises. That how Tom Brady has been so great and in the NFL for so long. He never ignores anything he has to do to be great. from staying in shape and being healthy, always taking mental notes in film study and practice, Best of luck man.

    Ooooh I know about this stuff! I dislocated my shoulder six times, twice playing hockey, thrice playing football, and once in a farming accident. I had Bankart repair surgery in February and the surgeon said my labrum was torn pretty much all the way around.
    Edit: now that I’ve actually watched the video, I only dislocated it once by landing on it. I went to make a hit in hockey and the player fell before I got to him and went right through my legs and landed almost identically to Trubisky.

    The head of the humerus reminds me surgery I had years ago due to the head of the humerus compressing the axiliary (sp) artery. I ended up having much of my pec minor cut out on my right side. Months later, there was a release. My chest on the right side dropped and rotated forward with the opposite happening on the other side. I have been able to live more comfortable yet, I do have some tension in my upper back on the left.... the exact opposite of the prior pain. So, yea, I have been happily asymmetrical over the last 25+ years. The original issue, you could call it thoraic outlet syndrome, was due to bulking up but what nobody ever said to me is my scoliosis was the other driving force. I don't even know if anyone mentioned I had it. I knew about it from a screening I had as a little kid and was aware of one shoulder being higher than the other. Thinking back, I don't think any of the doctors or therapists mentioned it. The internet was not around back then and if it had been, maybe I could have cured myself through heavy corrective training. My lower back pain was cured due to my experimentation doing hyperextensions with heavy weights. Maybe I could have solved the other issue through research. Working with rubber bands was not enough during therapy, I needed heavy heavy work. Eh, that is the past, but I think it would be a good study. I think I threw out stacks of medical reports and receipts from back in the day.

    I have dislocated by left shoulder 6 times. The doctors always seem to have a tough time putting it back into place, especially the past 2 or 3 times. I have a Hill-Sachs lesion from multiple dislocations. Next time it dislocates I'll probably have it fixed. They will have to take bone and add it to the glenoid to keep the humeral head from popping out.
