    I have a bony bankart and a hill-sachs. I’m 47, and was second guessing surgery that I have scheduled in 2 weeks. Your video really helped me decide to go on with the surgery. Thank you so much, there are so many therapists that seem to think therapy can solve anything. Reminds me of chiropractors in some sense. Everything has a place, of course… anyway thanks for illustrating so clearly.

    I saw the same Orthopaedic surgeon three times before he did a proper evaluation and sent me in for X-Ray thus diagnosing this issue. He arranged surgery and a week prior I went to see the surgeon to ask some questions for reassurance about what the surgery entailed. I mentioned that the physical therapy I had been doing felt like it was improving the strength and as soon as I said that he changed his mind and decided the tear didn't warrant the surgery. He was also coming across as he was annoyed I was even asking questions and I just found the situation to be very cold and inappropriate. I actually felt quite nervous as a result of his attitude and neglected to ask all of the questions I wanted. Do you have any advice? A big issue I have with it is the crunching and cracking sound when I life it up, it also makes a popping sound.

    • @floydamide
      @floydamide 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need an MRI/CT that shows the extent of the bone loss to decide if a reconstruction is indicated. PT will help in either case for strength, but your concern after a primary dislocation should be evaluating risk of a redislocation

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would certainly be asking your surgeon and physiotherapist about this! But a key marker might be “how many dislocations are you having?” Or “how much instability do you have?”… and this may guide the decision!

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! It may not be that the Bankart directly causes a Hill sachs… but Bankart and Hill sachs are both potential consequences of a dislocation, and so this can normally be identified on XR if you have had one recently

      @@zohebansari6429 I’m about a month out from surgery, I’ve started the PT to regain range of motion. The pain is gone for the most part. Sneezing sometimes causes pain.
      I’m in the assisted portion of PT.
      I’ve realized how important PT is. The PT is there for you to essentially heal yourself. You have to do it religiously.
      They warn of a “frozen shoulder” if you heal without introducing range of motion.
      If you get this surgery, prepare yourself to do the PT as precisely and methodically as you can. It seems to be the largest factor involved assuming the surgery itself is successful.
      The biggest pain in the ass is sleeping.
      I used a folded up towel placed under my operated shoulder until comfortable, and a smaller folded towel under the elbow of the same arm. First two weeks was 4 hours of sleep a night maximum. Now I am sleeping through the night.
