  • Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a devastating season ending hip dislocation injury this weekend and his future football career could be in jeopardy. In this video I'll help you understand what happened to Tua and we'll compare his injury to what happened with Bo Jackson in terms of his hip injury and the AVN (avascular necrosis) he developed.

    This might be the most painful thing that can happen to someone on the field. The amount of force needed to break and dislocate a hip is huge

      I didn’t either. My first thought was immediately “Will this drop his draft pick”. This now seems insensitive, and all I’m hoping is that he can recover from this and not have to live the rest of his life in chronic pain.
      That being said, there’s hope that he can get through this and still be able to play.

    Hey I am an aspiring ortho surgeon and i love your channel. Could you consider making a video about the idea of 'load management' that sweeping the NBA and the impact of playing high intensity sport on a nightly basis can have on the body?

      Bo Jackson was the first thing I heard of when they said it's a serious hip injury. Of course medicine's come a long way since 1991. I was at that game. Looked like a pulled hammy at the time.

    Hey Brian,
    Could you do a video on the following question: which is safer overall, MMA or boxing?
    Cheers

    • @Lionheart2323
      @Lionheart2323 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ramsey dewey made a few videos about this. Mma is much safer

    • @Techn9cian123
      @Techn9cian123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would guess that mma puts you at a higher risk for broken bones, and more intense injuries. While in boxing the main risk is the brain damage.

    This was a great explanation video! Thank you so much for doing this. One thing that you mentioned in the video was that if Tua does need a hip replacement he would not be able to rundoes need a hip replacement he would not be able to run, etc. I had a hip replacement 12 months ago and I am running 4-6 miles every day. My surgeon doesn't really like that I'm doing this but I'm having no pain as I run. And I'm 70 years old.

    Powerful and well articulated synopsis of Tua’s injury, Dr. Sutterer. Would enjoy hearing your assessment on Tua’s post-op surgery today in Houston, Texas where his physician said ‘surgery was a success, and prognosis was excellent’. They also said ‘full recovery is expected.’ Dr. Sutterer, what does this mean in your estimation? Thank you.

      @ImNotMad ButUR Not disputing what your saying here but it certainly contradicts what the team surgeon is saying; full recovery is what they are saying. Also it is a bit over the top to talk about getting back to normal life and walking on his own. Worst case scenario where football is out I don't think walking is going to be a problem. My 80 year old father in law is walking fine a month after hip replacement surgery. If it comes to that, his quality of life it won't be any different than 99.9% of the rest of us that don't play NFL football.

    Well, glad I watched the MDs video on BoJackson’s injury just a few days ago. This injury seems crazy painful. The fact that this kind of injury is mostly ever seen in automobile accidents says it all.
    Thanks for commenting on the ankle of Tua. I was immediately wondering if Tua’s ankle had an impact on the hip dislocation.
