just found your video after a long time searching for a way to convert a picture into something I could use with the laser engraver. This was fantastic, thanks so much for posting and sharing your methods!
.Hi @MARCAM Thank you very much! I have been trying to create covers and thought my personal pictures would be best to use. That's when I realized that the background could not be blended in with the image. Which (hours later, after months of inactivity) is how I learned about vector images, :-)
i came across this video and i am so happy i did. i am having trouble because when you tell me to hold ctrol and clikc on picture, it does not put a mask like yours does, and also under filts i do not have oil paint, please help ty. i am using PhotoShop
Hi, Thanks for checking out the vid. When you want to select the layer when holding ctrl click the small thumbnail in the layers section at the bottom right. With the oil paint option, depending on your version of photoshop it will either show near the top of the filter drop down or it will be under filter, then stylize option 👍🏻
@MARCAM Hello there. I'm having the same issue as someone previously commented on the first part of the tutorial. When I have my mouse on the image and press control, a menu pops up to the left of the thumbnail. Each time I try, the same menu pops up and nothing around my image gets selected. I rewinded back to the set in your tutorial and it looks so simple and no menu pops up by your thumbnail. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks for your help. I am really wanting to move past this step and on to what I'm reading in the great comments of the final results.
@goodali65 I've gone back into photoshop and photopea and tried to replicate the issue but I'm honestly not sure what's going on. On a mac I think it's command instead of control. Also, when you're holding control and clicking the image, are you click the large image or the layer name? It's the small thumbnail of the image in the layers that needs to be selected that will then select the outline of the image. Alternatively another way to get the same result, as long as you've removed the background of the image and imported in. Select the layer (bottom right) then click the 'select menu at the top and chose 'select all' That will highlight the whole canvas. Then press 'v' on the keyboard then press one of the arrow keys. That will move it a pixel but should have the outline of the image selected.
@@MARCAM thanks for the reply and detailed information! I will give it another try as well as the alternate method you provided. I am working on a project and trying to get the result from something that I came across online. And, I found your youtube page from another tutorial you did that had the vectordad app mentioned. That tutorial got me the closest to what I am trying to achieve! I'm really close and very excited! I've been going through so many tutorials and searching for the one that will get me to what I am looking for. So far, you have lead me to the best in getting what I am trying to accomplish! Would it be okay to private message you and show you what I am trying to go after with the project I'm working on and get thoughts from you? BTW, I see you are in the UK. My family is British. Cheers.
@goodali65 thanks for the kind words :) Feel free to email me. I can definitely have a look and try and help. And yeah from the UK. The best part, Wales 🏴 😉
I believe there is something that can be set up in photoshop but not 100% sure if to do so at the moment. Using different images for this process would probably require different settings each time though.
That can get tedious and time consuming. There’s plenty of tools in photoshop that can automate a lot of the things we need to do (especially with newer versions)
Hello MARC A.M - Other than Inkscape & Photoroom, I saw from the screen, the program you used was Ps which should be Photoshop. It doesn't look like Photopea and I don't think it's Adobe Photoshop. Allow me to ask you what kind of Photoshop software that we can download to PC, work & save to our local files without getting involved with cloud or internet or public websites, especially it can convert photos into vector (colors like animation artwork). What shown in this video clip looks like it can do vector from photos and came out like animation background. Is it possible you give me a link to download the same program you used in this video? Thank you very much.
Hi, The software with the PS logo is photoshop. Photopea does allow you to save to your pc also. There is also the alternative called ‘gimp’. That’s another photoshop alternative that is free and can be downloaded on your pc. Even though photoshop created the black and white image it’s not actually vector, that what I use Inkscape for then to trace the black and white image. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Is there anyone here who can do confidentily do this work? I'm looking for someone with skills like this to work with me now and into the future. Work will be like this video, dogs, cats etc. Please please please, let me know, I don't have time to do it, but I have work coming in 😫
There should be an ellipse tool on the left side. Select and click and drag the mouse on the page. Can use to boxes at the top to amend the size exactly 👍🏻
For a beginner, this is the best video I have found yet that yields the results I was looking for. Thanks for you help!
And thank you for the kind words ☺️ glad it helped!

What’s the time stamp in the video for this? I’ll have a look and see what’s going on 👍🏻

Is there a way to save a preset where all of these settings will be saved and you can just apply them to a photo?
I believe there is something that can be set up in photoshop but not 100% sure if to do so at the moment. Using different images for this process would probably require different settings each time though.
Thanks! Very informative, i was trying to copy it old school with a new layer and brush tool and kept quiting!!

Can you do a version showing it in photopea as I can't get the results in there :(
Sure, I’ll try and take a look at it for you and get something sorted 👍🏻
super thank you

Photopea doesn't seem to have a feature to merge layers. How do I merge them?
You should be able to select both layers, right click and merge or the shortcut is ctrl + E
@@MARCAM Okay.
How do you remove the photoroom logo?
You can pay for it or do what I do and just take it into something like photoshop and crop it out 😅

How to do a circle on lnkscape app on PC please help I am using it now 😭😭😭❤❤❤❤

@@MARCAM where can I find ellipse tool on left side on keyboard on windows 11 😭😭❤️❤️
@@MARCAM where can I press an alphabet A on lnkscape app please help me now ❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭
It’s on the left side of the screen. There should be a toolbar
For text, on the left side of the screen there should be a text option. Click that then click the middle of the screen and start typing 👍🏻
If you want to use this in photoshop is it the same do you just save it then reload it back into photoshop???
Yeah, will be the same in photoshop 👍🏻
Inkscape is not for free on Android😢
Didn’t even realise there was an android version. I just use it on a Windows pc
talk to fast!!!
Well I’m not sure what you expect me to do about that now. Maybe slow the playback speed down and put the subtitles on 🤷🏻♂️
If you already know how to do this then this tutorial is good, if not it's useless.
