In my opinion, Extreme were the best performance at this Queen tribute concert. They have got to be one of, if not the most, underrated bands ever. Nunos riffs are amazing. Simply hipnotizing. EXTREME!!!!!!!!
@@RFXLR They weren't supposed to do this at this show. They were hired as Extreme just as the rest of the bands that played. This made almost everyone involved furious. So yeah, it had better have been good. Not to mention, they added songs that Queen had set up for their performance at the end of the show with everybody, which also wasn't a very smart move. But hey, they pulled it off and I'm sure Freddie would have enjoyed them either way. But wasn't well received by those involved at the time.
Extreme is one of only a handful of American bands that is allowed to do a tribute to Freddie as part of their show, every year..When they were touring, they played it once a year. In honor of Freddie..
Extreme were the BEST part of this tribute concert!! That medley was the most awesome moment. I've seen it more times than I can count. They weren't there to promote themselves but to pay tribute to the brilliant Freddie. I saw this concert live on MTV in April '92, I still wish I could have been there. Long Live Freddie.
Gary Cherone is the boss!, amazing vocalist, superb entertainer, spectacular Frontman, He's now my new favorite frontman EVER!. very charismatic and total command of the crowd, literally the crowd at the palm of his hands. Total Domination.🤘
With due respect to the other bands in that tribute concert, in my opinion EXTREME did the best performance and they truly rocked this concert. 19 years after watching it on t.v., I still watch it over and over again. Keep rockin'!!
Ok, I'm gonna say it: This Performance is just as Iconic as Queen at Live Aid. You may now return back to the video, watch, and agree with me when its over. Thanks You
They were the best band that day . Love Extreme so much. This concert truly made me so happy man what memories. I was 16 years old what a beautiful moment .
OMG, just came across this.... Extreme playing tribute to Freddie?? How fab is that!! OMG if only I'd known at the time, I'd have been there. Words fail me. More than words! Dx
It was the highlight of the tribute. They put all their hearts into it and very much got what Queen were all about. Plus they had very little notice and had only a few days to put this together.
***** Then you must really understand about cheese , it was a great performance , Brian May himself only had compliments about Extreme ... wanna see a bad musical performance ? Go check Kanye West version of Bohemian Rhapsody
Extreme is the truest fan of Queen. I’m a huuuge fan of both bands. ♥️ Gary never had formal voice lessons, but he was inspired by Freddie darling, and these songs require an amazing set of pipes especially live! 🙌🏼
NICE choice of medley: Mustapha - Bohemian Rhapsody - Keep Yourself Alive - I Want To Break Free - Fat Bottomed Girls - Bicycle Race - Another One Bites The Dust - We Will Rock You - Stone Cold Crazy
Can't believe I didn't find this vid before this , Extreme completely nailed this performance , what a compliment to Freddy & the rest of Queen !!! Extreme are hands down the most underrated band of all time .
Brian May was right (anyone surprised?) One of the reasons I love Extreme is because of the influence Queen had on them, especially on their first album
The best performance and tribute to Freddy Ever! .Gary Cherone's stage presence and charisma kicks ass! His voice quality and energy is so much like Freddy or even better. Truly one of the best vocalist of all time. Nuno just slays on the guitar. Pat and the Paul plays with conviction. Freddy would be very happy watching this. I hope They would do this again. Extreme rules!
It's even more impressive when you realise this set was put together at short notice and the guys had very little time to practice together before this performance! I knew of extreme when they were starting out, I raved about them to my mates and the odd radio DJ (most of whom ignored me), I wasn’t there but I remember this night very well, an impressive performance, with none or the gizmos and digital aids that bands (and audiences) expect and get these days - just four excellent musicians with their instruments and some fantastic songs to play.
Marvelous vocals and back vocals, great rythm, godlike guitarist... Extreme should have been the greatest rock band of the 90's, 00's. I hope the 2010 years will be successful for them. They deserve success. I mean, more than Justin Bieber, Rihanna, etc. Yes I know about Nuno when he plays for her. Shitty music business. I hope he'll produce the greatest Extreme album for 2012 !
Addison - I’m an old guy (65). Guitar-based music has been my lifelong passion. So as you might imagine, I’ve heard a few guitarists in my time on this planet. Nuno Duarte Gil Mendes Bettencourt is among my top 10 favorite guitarists. That’s across all genres and ages of recorded music that I have listened to. He is brilliant!
Marlon Somcio They pretty much debuted right as Nirvana was gaining popularity in Spring 1991.....so,....as the saying goes : the rest is history ...just like all the hard rock/hair bands of the mid-late 80's & beginning of the 90's : they became "history" thanks to Nirvana & Grunge/Alternative. But I will say that I've yet to see Grunge/90's bands experience the nostalgia comeback that the hard rock/hair bands of the 80's have had so far.....
Yeah, in the UK I remember it only being about a year from Pornograffitti coming out, then this style of music very quickly became unfashionable from when Smells Like Teen Spirit hit the charts in late '91. Whizzo guitar talent also went out of the window, pretty much like what happened with punk in the seventies.
Bad timing as someone pointed out. I've also increasingly come to the conclusion over the past few years that their first three albums have awful lyrics, and great guitar solos. In some of their songs like "Play with Me" the solos are the only interesting parts.
A perfect tribute to Freddie. The one person none of them could upstage is the one they are honoring. And that one person trained the audience perfectly for them as seen by how they react to both Another One Bites the Dust and We Will Rock You.
12 yrs late to this party but literally CHILLS UPON CHILLS FROM HEAD TO TOE....some would say Freddie was looking down...dare i say he was present and took over the crowd & Extreme (and well deserved - he moved millions and not one riot or insurrection) ...try that one on for size or put it in ur pipe and smoke it. RIP FM 😢
depecheddurand Criminally underrated. All great players, Nuno in particular is a true virtuoso, Gary’s one of the great frontmen and their harmonies, musicality... they really had it all.
Remember seeing this on TV at the time amazing performance. When they first released their Pornograffitti album, and then listening to it, I just knew they were going to be big, Nuno’s playing was different, just like EVH’s playing was different years before them, the playing, vocal harmonies and production on that album is phenomenal, just like many Queen albums were, mind blowing!
freddie died on my birthday denying me the number 1 of my bucket list, which to this day is to see Queen live. But when i saw extreme.... i checked off number 1.5 :)
absolutely great!!! i´m a musician too and I can say that this gig by Extreme is awesome, refreshing versions, excelent voices, heavy arrangements, well prepared megamix set list, etc...
One of my favorites of this concerts and for some reason, it's not included on the DVD! At least not mine which was bought 10+ years ago. I have no idea why??? So glad it's here at least. The quality could be better though like some others from this concert here on TH-cam.
Extreme always has rocks, still rocks, and will continue to rock. I don't think a lot of people truly realized how great of a band Extreme was (and still is).. Plus, they understand Queen so well, which is why they were able to do what they did at this concert. Rock on dudes!! And I LOVE the Freddy look--alike!! XD
'TY NunoCosta for this treat. Extreme did a great job on the songs the harmonies are very tight and well constructed. Freddie would have been proud of their delivery of their medly."
i watched this over and over again when i was a kid - like 300 times and glad i have just found it again, Will probably watch it as many times now. Love u Freddie
You are right. They came out like a HURRICANE and they indeed STOLE THE SHOW. Gary, rocked it. Amazing performance by EXTREME. A real respectful tribute to Queen and Freddie Mercury. Their performance of HAMMER TO FALL was nothing short of a m a z i n g.

Wow it's an amazing and accurate cover. I wonder how they got so accurate on covering queen's songs. They even did not need any tutorial videos I guess 😄.

Nuno just got better and better! He's amazing..

They're not underrated. Nuno bettencourt is well respected by his peers and Extreme were very successful during the 1990s
