  • Last night, Ozzy Osbourne’s Hall of Fame induction was marked by powerful performances from some of rock's biggest names, who came together to honor the Prince of Darkness. The ceremony kicked off with Wolfgang Van Halen delivering a blazing rendition of "Crazy Train," showcasing his guitar skills in a tribute to Ozzy's solo legacy. The crowd erupted as Wolfgang’s riffs echoed through the venue, capturing the energy of the original track and setting the tone for the night.
The celebration continued with Metallica's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich taking the stage to perform "Paranoid." Their high-energy rendition paid homage to Black Sabbath’s classic, with Hetfield's raw vocals and Ulrich's thunderous drumming energizing the crowd. Tony Iommi, Ozzy's longtime Black Sabbath bandmate, later performed "Iron Man" with the house band, while Ozzy made a surprise appearance to join him on vocals, creating a special moment for the audience.
Zakk Wylde, Ozzy's longtime guitarist, delivered a standout performance of "No More Tears." His signature style and powerful soloing brought the song to life, while his presence on stage alongside Ozzy added a deeply emotional touch. Dave Grohl also surprised the audience by jumping on drums for a rendition of "War Pigs," adding his energetic style to the already electrifying atmosphere.
The night ended with all musicians joining forces for a medley of Ozzy's greatest hits, including "Bark at the Moon" and "Mr. Crowley," creating a fitting grand finale to a celebration of one of rock's most legendary figures.

I didn't hear any of this, but I know that Ozzy's way of singing is really "odd", in that it's kind of "off", and there also tends to be a lot of doubling, even live I believe. AND, nobody is gonna want to hear or believe it, but there might be live tuning as well. - But whatever it is, the way he "sings" is very unconventional and a lot of singers will sing more "properly", making it sound absolutely wrong for an Ozzy song. - It's kinda like trying to sing Jimi Hendrix songs technically sound, it will not sound right for a Hendrix song. - In fact, I just tried to sing a Dire Straits song earlier, trying to sing properly, but it almost doesn't work cause of how Mark Knopfler does it.

    • @GoBayside

I don't think they were rivals. There was a lot of respect both ways. Randy was a very technical and classical player. When he was asked how he came up with the guitar licks that the kids would like he said basically rips off Eddie's stuff.
"I have my own personality on the guitar but as of yet I don't think I have my own style. For instance, I do a solo guitar thing in concert, and I do a lot of the same licks as Eddie Van Halen. Eddie is a great player, but it kills me that I do that."

i dunno, have you been to an ozzy concert in the past 20 years? he's been struggling on stage for decades. the problem here is they got a bunch of old guys to sing ozzy songs he recorded when he was young with a high register voice. there are plenty of young power metal singers who could come in and crush these songs, but the rock hall is an industry celebrity institution so it was what it was.

This shows Wolfgang is not only a very good guitar player but also a true professional. He could have taken the easy route and improvised that solo, but he recognized how iconic it was, he took the time to learn it nearly note for note and play it well. He did Randy justice. I think Randy would have gotten a kick out of this, seeing his ex rival's son playing his solo.

I met the prince of Darkness as a very young man in the 80s in a Tower Record in Seattle prior to his concert signing autographs. He was wearing a white tuxedo. I was stuck by how sad he looked as fans shouted "rock on Ozzy, lets go" he never even looked up. I walked to him shyly and said to him "It's pleasure to meet you Mr. Osborne" he stopped looked up at me and thrust his hand into mine and said "Well it's a pleasure meeting you..." and I said my name" and said "Indeed Eric it is" and signed my Speak of the Devil album and did another on the inside sleaving. Such an amazing person. He changed my life. God Bless you John Osborne.
