for me he is the best too, if i want to make a band, Nuno is my first choice, and some other like paul gilbert, steve vai, Joe Satriani, come on, you are the master of guitar but not good for a rock bnad
Re: Cherone's voice. He had just performed one of the most amazing feats any singer has ever done on any stage anywhere. The man owned Wembley for that medley, and here he's tired and his voice is a little tapped out. Meanwhile this is one of the greatest singers in rock, and probably the only guy who could have legitimately taken Freddie's place. Anyone of you in front of 100,000 people would have pissed your pants. Everyone's a Critic, but not everyone is a musician.
Michael Ralston THANK YOU! The medley was literally *untouchable* ! Gary dancing, running around & not missing a beat. Extreme have always been one of the tightest bands I've ever heard (and saw live~ when they were just starting to gain momentum, one of a large festival of bands. We only went for Extreme and they owned the day). But this medley proved THAT, and then some, given how VERY difficult it must've been to switch so seamlessly & quickly from tempo to tempo, mood of each song, soft to hard (rock), melody to melody (not to mention harmonies) & apparently with little rehearsal time, oh, and *not their own songs* They had nothing to prove to ANYONE at this point in the show & the audience made that very clear. Some of the comments were frustrating to read... I don't know what people expect. SMH
Beautiful and honest comment there sir. I don't think Brian May could have gotten thru this without tears..As he and Freddie used to sit together just like this..
What a fucking amazing guitar player. He's so good it makes me sick. And singing those harmonies at the same time... fucking hell. Not many around like this guy these days
Gary really sang this flat, but it never seemed to matter. Have still watched it a million times and love it. There's a real honesty to it. And Nuno is flawless.
we in indonesia saw it live or rerun not long after the show, the tv that aired it must also have relayed from mtv, i remember i taped it on videocassete beta
Guitar work excellent from Nuno but Gary's voice has been destroyed from the big medley which he did excellently. Proves how strong Freddie's voice was! Nobody will ever better the man
Edward Pye . I'm a big fan of Extreme and Gary's vocals but I have to admit that his vocals are less than perfect here. Probably due to the fact that he'd just given his heart and soul to that amazing medley.
Musicians , we actually have to laugh and help each other out when our voices go- I now, I had songs that went over great with the band, but then after a week of rehearsals, I lost it on stage..Gary blew us away- for Freddie, For Love, and for his dear friends Queen. Thats enough.
Love this .. Yes Gary is a bit tired and occasionally flat here and there but it still gives me shivers even after all these years. Nuno is awesome here
One of my favorite performances by Extreme. I think it's safe to say I had a healthy obsession with them (especially Nuno) back in the 90's. Nice to see this still holds up today. Thanks for posting it!
Nuno Bennecort rocks on the guitar, so beautiful. Love this Tribute to Freddie and how they go right into "More Than Words," my favorite song. Absolute respect for this awesome duo!
i loved this cover of "love of my life" as it sounds like the record version in terms of chords and the way they seagued into "more than words" was excellent. definitely one of the best performances of the day.
i was also going to say that it would've awesome if Gary and Nuno had waited til it got dark later on to come back and do "love of my life". I wonder how many people would've gotten the reference.
I recorded on VHS on that day too when I was 12. The mix of the audience was so better (and so much 'more Queen') than the official release that eventualy came out. That is one reason why I appreciate your "VERY worn out vhs" version of this performance. Thank you!
Somehow as I was moving on in life I missed Extreme. But trust me I found out just who these guys were. Of all the tributes, NOT one came so close to the reality of Freddie's voice as Gary did.
They got lost between "hair bands" and Nirvana. They weren't missed by me. I was 14 when this happened. I wish I had a copy of this on DVD or CD or something! Extreme were my favorite band and still are one of them!
Seriously though, all of you people who say Gary's vocals are really shitty, you get up there and do what he did. The entire band did a great job overall. Missing parts of melodies? Wtf are you, a music God? It's obvious to anyone with eyes & a brain that they were very tired during this tribute and they did exceptional. Gary's constant movement will naturally make for not a perfect voice but as I said, all you music know it all'a, you get your ass up there and sing..oh and run around while doing it!
There is a studio version with Nuno, Gary, and Brian May on electric guitar and also just Extreme live in Rio 92 where Gary sounds perfect. He probably blew his voice out a little here. So Gary can sing it very well.
Never get tired of the set,saw it live on tv had a vhs, thankful for uploaders the vhs bit the dust long ago,for the first time Tonite I realized Nuno had a guy Fawkes mask on,haha
just listened to this for the first time ever.. most impressed.. this song always brings tears to my eyes for Freddies loss.. not sure i'll ever get over that..
Its hard to honor someone's life and music without taking anything away from the original artists- Who really cares if his voice wasn't perfect. I know why I'm watching this- do you?
Gary Cherone ESTAVA TÃO LINDO, PERFEITO QUANDO USAVA O CABELO CUMPRIMO E ENROLADO. Sinto tanta saudades do Extreme nessa época. Eu vou continuar apaixonadamente apaixonada por Gary Cherone s2
Gary Cherone has an awesome vocal, he sings the rest of the medley brilliantly. His voice is just hoarse and tired out but that's why Freddie was so incredible! His just never ended ever!
its as great as i remember,i set my alarm to start taping but i ended up seeing this after the mettallica opening and they played the first queen songs of the day and the crowd went wild,i had never heard nuno before but have been a fan since, extreme was great that day, this set of tunes will always have a place in my heart, peace out
He did great job! I am singing this everyday and for me, i love the way i sing it. So for those people criticizing this, record your self singing this and post it here. Lets see then!
I'd forgotten how beautiful he was. Be still my 15 year old heart. Being young was fun. And as the song says, so wasted on kids who don't appreciate how fabulous they are
Love it! A concert I really wish I had been at... Alas was only 11 at the time!! Great memories of totally wearing out a VHS recording off the tv!! Queen, extreme & guns & roses rocked that day!! & yeah maybe not pitch perfect performances, but from the heart & a great tribute to a true legend!!
Anyone criticising Gary on here... get on a world stage, unknown millions watching worldwide, TV cameras etc.. jump around for 20 mins and entertain an audience and then try and stay in tune... Brian chose them because they are a great band.. end of... get on stage and try it.. you'll shit your pants before before the band strikes a note.... ask yourself, what would I rather hear/ see... a real live band playing everything or some auto tuned twat who knows fuck all about music? too many critics on TH-cam... show your talent and then comment.....
+Minime Gamez - As a musician - i have to heartily disagree. Staying in tune and providing the best listening experience to the audience is my fucking JOB. If I were doing it on Extreme's level - it would be a very highly paid JOB. Trying to strawman argument by challenging amateurs to go up and do the same thing is a bullshit cop out justification for Gary's performance here. As a musician he needed to recognize his limits and change it up to fit in his range, similar to the way Clapton, George Michael, GnR, and just about every other artist on that stage did. In fact, similarly to the way he himself did during the medley they did earlier. Two things: Gary Cherone is an amazing artist. Gary Cherone can't cover Freddie Mercury. Both of those attributes can co-exist, shouldn't take away from Gary's talent - frankly, these facts are something that were absolutely true of just about everyone on that stage that day... So very few of them - people considered music royalty.... so few of them could actually cover Freddie. Gary's mistake was in trying to keep it in the same range as Freddie.
+Stephen P I very much agree with everything you said. You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. He should've transposed the song to a more comfortable key, to compensate for the wear and tear his voice would ensure during the first part of the performance.
Love of My Life had to be a big part of this tribute.I don't believe Brian, Roger and john could have sung it without crying right to the stage exit..They loved you Freddie-= This was for you!
This is way better than I remember, and for GC this must have been the most intense thing he ever sang. Freddie's masterpiece in England? In front of that crowd? Are you kidding? I'll give him a break for being a little flat. He must've been freaking out!
i remember watching this concert with my mom, who was a Freddy and Queen fan..she passed away in 2007 and watching this now just brought me to tears..great performance from a once great band..and who happens to have a Portuguese guitarist and musician as 1 of it's members, just like i am !.. ;)
I'm more a Queen fan than an Extreme fan, but I genuinely thought Gary did a super job. Who cares if his voice cracked, Freddie's cracked all the time.
I do believe this was the day that Nuno met his wife, the mother of his two kids! He asked her if she'd iron his shirt as he thought she was a backstage "assistant" or something, not realising she was the lead singer of a band playing that day! Love this story.
Well, this is a very, very talented pair of young men - but this should serve to show the world how special Freddy Mercury really was. As good as this is - it's not even close to what Freddie could perform. But that's OK. It's still very nice.
Even Brian basically said "these guys are the nearest to us on the planet..." so that's also a lot to live up to... always felt he did them a bit of a disservice there, even if he meant it as a compliment.
What I love about this performance is that the guys in Extreme had a deep and almost spiritual connection to the music of Queen. They really got it.
. Amazing song.
They loved it so much
Nuno Bettencourt...for me one of the best rock guitarist ever...
for me he is the best too, if i want to make a band, Nuno is my first choice, and some other like paul gilbert, steve vai, Joe Satriani, come on, you are the master of guitar but not good for a rock bnad
Slash

Agreed. He has a bit of every style in him. Pornographitti is the best rock guitar album ever, blizzard of Oz close 2nd
David Gilmour
Re: Cherone's voice.

Anyone of you in front of 100,000 people would have pissed your pants. Everyone's a Critic, but not everyone is a musician.
I agree. Gary is an excellent singer and showman. He embodies the spirit of Freddie. Too bad he couldnt play him in the movie.
Michael Ralston THANK YOU! The medley was literally *untouchable* ! Gary dancing, running around & not missing a beat. beadybaby Totally agree!
And Nuno's a great maestro! Much like Mr.May. I loved this tender tribute
Beautiful and honest comment there sir. I don't think Brian May could have gotten thru this without tears..As he and Freddie used to sit together just like this..
Nuno pulled Gary back in tune when they sang in duo. Gary was out of breath. Respect!
Absolutely! Rock on!!
Yep... Agree
What a fucking amazing guitar player. He's so good it makes me sick. And singing those harmonies at the same time... fucking hell. Not many around like this guy these days
You have to watch the entire 20 minute video to truly understand the beauty of this tribute!!
Nunu is one of the most underrated guitar players of all time. He is brilliant
Dino Digger not really underrated
haitiano1982 Not underrated but deserves more credit
Gary really sang this flat, but it never seemed to matter. Have still watched it a million times and love it. There's a real honesty to it. And Nuno is flawless.
I remember MTV broadcasting this live and then rerunning it for months, when MTV was MTV.
I remember when Mtv was Mtv. I Never changed the channel for a decade or two
i like the point 'when mtv is mtv' thats so true 👍
QWC
MTV was really special, I still remember the very first host I think it was Kasey Casem....... If my memory serves me right! :)
we in indonesia saw it live or rerun not long after the show, the tv that aired it must also have relayed from mtv, i remember i taped it on videocassete beta
Nuno's solo was incredible.
Guitar work excellent from Nuno but Gary's voice has been destroyed from the big medley which he did excellently. Proves how strong Freddie's voice was! Nobody will ever better the man
+Guitar Ted - that was the closest thing to queen iv ever heard
+Shawn Billy well said
Extreme totally stole the show. Reminiscent of when Queen stole the show at Live-Aid... Awesome
Extreme kicked every ass at Wembley that day. In the top three live musical performances of all time.
HE'S TIRED , I THINK HE'S REALLY REALLY TIRED AND HE MANAGED TO SING. RESPECT FOR THEM FROM ME^_^
he seemed scared against a monster like freddie. I liked his human reaction!
Tired or tried?
Gary is one of the greatest vocalists, he has the gift, the spirit and so much good values. I like him very much and Nuno too.
Love this .. Yes Gary is a bit tired and occasionally flat here and there but it still gives me shivers even after all these years. Nuno is awesome here
Great song. Gary and Nunno are really good!!
One of my favorite performances by Extreme. I think it's safe to say I had a healthy obsession with them (especially Nuno) back in the 90's. Nice to see this still holds up today. Thanks for posting it!
OMG these guys are so talented & Gary is so versatile. He's great whatever song he does
Beautiful Guitar, for a beautiful song, a beautiful tribute.
No one had to play after Extreme. They were the best part of this show hands down..
10-22-2020 After all these years and me listening to this all the time, these guys still give me goose bumps.
Nuno Bennecort rocks on the guitar, so beautiful. Love this Tribute to Freddie and how they go right into "More Than Words," my favorite song. Absolute respect for this awesome duo!
how hot is Nuno!!! omg!! the hair gorgeous, and such a brilliant guitarist
Se dê ao respeito senhora kkkk
I love this band and how they are working this tribute to Freddie- God Bless you Extreme- Gary--
the vocal harmonization is absolutely spell binding..
Ringo Monsanto indoubitably...
Nuno`s such a great guitarist!
Great performance anyway, Cerrone and Bettencourt great guys, thanks for this video !
i loved this cover of "love of my life" as it sounds like the record version in terms of chords and the way they seagued into "more than words" was excellent. definitely one of the best performances of the day.
i was also going to say that it would've awesome if Gary and Nuno had waited til it got dark later on to come back and do "love of my life". I wonder how many people would've gotten the reference.
Einfach beautiful.
Im Dezember sehe ich sie endlich live. Ich freue mich so unfassbar. ❤❤❤❤. Meine Lieblingsband for ever.
I recorded on VHS on that day too when I was 12. The mix of the audience was so better (and so much 'more Queen') than the official release that eventualy came out. That is one reason why I appreciate your "VERY worn out vhs" version of this performance. Thank you!
There sits my favourite guitarist in the whole world.
amazing Nuno!
Wow Nuno! Great job on the guitar.
I'm always stunned with nuno's long slick hair...
Azoreans are beautiful
Hes so pretty😍
Continua sendo muito lindo!❤
Somehow as I was moving on in life I missed Extreme.
But trust me I found out just who these guys were.
Of all the tributes, NOT one came so close to the reality of Freddie's voice as Gary did.

LOL everyone else isn't a PROFESSIONAL SINGER. HE IS!
J Pep you are something else...
The fact that he was spinning around was arguably the best part. I love when musicians actually move around and rock out 🤘🏻
It is still amazing how the loss of Freddie Mercury is still felt more than 20 years after his passing!
I thought they did great. Nobody could never be Freddie Mercury. He's one of a kind. Extreme did really well for the tribute, I loved it.
The medley this did right before this is one of the best displays of raw talent I've ever seen from a band.
Extreme- they are amazing!!!!!
There is a studio version with Nuno, Gary, and Brian May on electric guitar and also just Extreme live in Rio 92 where Gary sounds perfect. He probably blew his voice out a little here. So Gary can sing it very well.
June 15, 2012 watched this show 20 years ago, still gives me goose bumps,,,
" when I grow older,,,,,"
Never get tired of the set,saw it live on tv had a vhs, thankful for uploaders the vhs bit the dust long ago,for the first time Tonite I realized Nuno had a guy Fawkes mask on,haha
oh my, thank you for uploading this sir! tons of love for youuu aaaaaaaaaaaa
Gary was mega nervous for doing this song apparently hence the vocals not to his usual standard still great though.extreme are very underrated.
thanks for uploading this. brought back memories of a time past
I remember being really moved by this performance and I love both songs!
eternally amazing and beautiful.
just listened to this for the first time ever.. most impressed.. this song always brings tears to my eyes for Freddies loss.. not sure i'll ever get over that..
Its hard to honor someone's life and music without taking anything away from the original artists- Who really cares if his voice wasn't perfect. I know why I'm watching this- do you?
Great performance!!!
Back before the age of Auto-tune.
I've been watching this since April 1992 as well and it never fails to give me chills...and make me weep!
Gary Cherone ESTAVA TÃO LINDO, PERFEITO QUANDO USAVA O CABELO CUMPRIMO E ENROLADO. Sinto tanta saudades do Extreme nessa época. Eu vou continuar apaixonadamente apaixonada por Gary Cherone s2

Great to see this again! Thanks!
Nuno looks very different in this video. Their voices and the guitar play is perfect as ever.
He did great job! I am singing this everyday and for me, i love the way i sing it. So for those people criticizing this, record your self singing this and post it here. Lets see then!
Damn! It's 2012 and I'm still listening to it!
2021
2023 still listening
2024...
20-8-2024. Eu aqui vendo esse show incrível, pela enésima vez e ouvindo às músicas do álbum novo SIX. Do Extreme. ❤❤❤❤
I'd forgotten how beautiful he was. Be still my 15 year old heart. Being young was fun. And as the song says, so wasted on kids who don't appreciate how fabulous they are

My favourite band and song ever!!!
2 absolutely amazing songs done live consecutively......What more could you ask for???.....
Fevereiro de 2021, ouvindo essa linda canção, a homenagem a Freddie Mercury e depois More Than Words.Beautiful.
'more than words' is a song of my life!

THank you!
Yup Stephan P and TheHaloProphet, Thats why both of you two were there performing, Assholes!
I think they were touring around the same time aswell so his voice probably was shot even still it was amazing.extreme are very underrated.
Nuno Bettencourt plays very well.
absolutely amazing!!!!!!
Love of My Life had to be a big part of this tribute.I don't believe Brian, Roger and john could have sung it without crying right to the stage exit..They loved you Freddie-= This was for you!
And Extreme's hit, by Brian May's orders..For Love.
Nicely done. 1 of my favorites from Freddie
Great performance.
Truly gifted musicians.
What a beuatiful guitar playing by nuno
Couldn't agree more...
this is a TRIBUTE....!!!!
Of course they sing difference...
Nuno ...amazing and flawless as usual! His harmonies too. Perfect. Gary though, ...bad!
This is way better than I remember, and for GC this must have been the most intense thing he ever sang. Freddie's masterpiece in England? In front of that crowd? Are you kidding? I'll give him a break for being a little flat. He must've been freaking out!

lolllll wonderful.. simply amazing.
Interpretação maravilhosa! Demais! Solo do Nuno é para chorar! Amo! 💓
Thank you for posting this. I love "More Than Words", this is just a beautiful.
Q ISSO!!?? OH LOKO, Q APRESENTAÇÃO TOP DO EXTREME!
thanks from all of us tubers for making this, you did a great job.
Excellent, Jp Haslem, on the recording from VHS. You did your best!
I remember watching the tribute concert when the bbc aired it live and Extreme still the show with the medley and the this, perfect
Only Freddie sang Hammer to Fall better than Gary, his performance was brilliant!
The most Hadnsome, Beautyful Man, very talented best guitarist
Well, this is a very, very talented pair of young men - but this should serve to show the world how special Freddy Mercury really was. As good as this is - it's not even close to what Freddie could perform. But that's OK. It's still very nice.

I agree with you 100%
Thank you for posting this and the medley...excellent job.
