Nice. Enjoy. I have it since 2 years now. And the range spec was 560km. Now when i charge to 90 % it displays 424 km and 100% would be 476 km, which is realistic in summer. So the range is a lie 😁 you will see. I should have a 73 kWh netto batterypack. And with my consumption i should come way more far. Big battery degradation or maybe big energy losses who are not counted 🤣

I ran into my first ever long ass line for a supercharger which had a queue of 7 cars and 6 stalls. Ardmore, OK is the only stop between Olahoma City and DFW area. Max speed is 150kwh but since all stalls where pulling current it started at 120 and dropped to a steady 70kwh. Can’t image that with 3rd party cars. If they do open, hope they add more stalls.

Even if the rate is declining, you still have inflation which means that prices are still going up...just not as fast as before.

  • @WillWatkins92

Whilst the numbers are impressive, the inner analyst in me wants to know how many of those vehicles sat in the different price increase bands for those vehicles. I would love to see that breakdown, as it would be far more interesting to see than just the total number. We'll never have that but it would be very revealing I think, of whether those numbers are mainly from the recent higher price points of the car, or from orders that were made when the prices were lower.

The biggest challenge for all EV entrants including those from ICE companies is the potential cost of recalls and in warranty repairs. They do not have the breadth of experience in actual customer data and innovation. They also do not have the the scale or margins to absorb these costs. One major recall like what happened with the Chevy Bolt and the earlier Hyundai/Kia EV's had a huge impact on the bottom lines of Ford, Hyundai/Kia.
Over the air updates are also one of their weaknesses. It is not as simple as having the updated software, but it must be delivered in a secure manner. This must be the reason why most companies other than Tesla require a visit to their service center for software updates.

The front and rear casting system is a forward thinking system that can use the 4680 structural pack once they are available, but they work just fine and are used with non-structural 2170 packs in Fremont and Texas. The recent upgrades to Berlin and Shanghai Model Y lines frees up production equipment and space formerly used on welding together the front end, and sets up the factory for more seamless integration when the 4680 cell production and structural packs comes on line. The Berlin battery 4680 factory is still under construction, and production was originally planed for the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, but that may change.

Reading long term test reviews of Tesla Model 3 by Top Gear and Autocar build quality problems are more apparent on US built cars and given the very high price of Tesla's in the UK more focus needs to be given to quality instead of quantity.
Looking ahead how much do you think a Tesla will be worth in 10 years time? The cost of the battery pack will outweigh the residual value of the car.
By 2030-32 Tesla secondhand cars will fetch scrap value unless Tesla or AN Other can supply a battery pack for sub 5 k.

It's mostly just simple supply and demand. They are selling cars faster than they can produce them. Once their supply capabilities outpaces the demand, the costs will come down. But demand is greater than supply capabilities currently. So if they left the prices low they would create even more demand that they are literally incapable of delivering on currently and would be making less profit per car. Lots of people are continuing to buy these cars even at these increased prices if you can believe it. I sure can't afford one currently 😢

Model Y maxes out at 250KW. But like others said cars do not charge at their maximum rate for the entire session when using level 3 equipment (superchargers/ccs1) due to what is known as the charging curve. Basically as battery fills up, charging speeds decrease. That being said faster chargers and newer cars which can exceed currant max charging rates are good especially when drivers realize cases when they just need to charge to 50% to get home. In such cases the 350KW cars will be in and out even quicker than 250kw cars assuming the car’s battery also has a good charging curve. The new Toyota suv seems to have a horrible charging curve for example. Hopefully they change that once they observe real world data.

On an individual cell level your voltage remains the same. You could do 5v (though your cable would be the size of a tree trunk) or you could do 100,000v and accomplish the same thing. KW is simply the actual wattage you're working with. Lower voltage means your insulators can be thinner and your wires and circuits can be closer (like how a CPU is around 1.2-1.5v). Higher voltage means you can decrease your conductor size, but you must combat increasing chances of unintended circuits being created (like how with enough voltage, power will travel through the air to another conductor).

@@electricant1367 there is no point in faster charging for EVs which would only cause massive problems anyway. There is a hardware limitation not only by the 400v system but mostly because of each individual cell in the battery which can only charge at a certain speed, aside from needing to be cooled to prevent battery degradation. In the end the battery is limited by the 3.5v to 4v voltage (depending on chemistry and structure) of each individual cell. The only real way to significantly increase the charging speed would be to considerably increase the number of cells in the battery pack and this comes with significant thermal problems and a higher stress on the cooling system. Tesla considered the swap to a 800v based system (similar to porsche) but found out that there is no real benefit aside from being able to thinnen the charging cables diameter. The 4680 packs are even more thermally limited due to their bigger diameter, hence the lower charging speeds.

At 5000 miles a year, and assuming your vehicle gets an actual 25 mpg, that’s 200 gallons of gas, and at our local gas stations, it’s roughly $6/gal depending on the day/station/etc. which is $1200 annually. - driven over 5 years, that’s $6000, which is more than what we paid for her car. - Using these figures, even at just 5000 miles driven annually, her car pays for itself in fewer than five years with comparable savings vs paying for gas.
Add to that, she skips smog/emissions inspections and 98% of all of the other maintenance gas cars require. She might need to replace tires once every five or so years and brake pads every so often (though regenerative braking creates far less wear).. maybe top up her windshield wiper fluid every so often and that’s about it.
And the Tesla? 132,000+ miles driven, and the only maintenance and fuel costs have been.. you guessed it; tires, brake pads, and windshield wiper fluid. By comparison, even if driving as little as 5000 miles a year, fueling and maintaining a gas vehicle is expensive. Even if we didn’t recharge for free and paid out local kW rate, driving electric is still far less expensive compared to a similar gas vehicle. Even if your vehicle was given to you for free, driving and maintaining it would cost more than my daughter’s EV in less than five years time, and continues to cost more each and every week/month/year afterwards.
In short, even when driving shorter distances, gas (and using a gas vehicle) is expensive.

@@evolv.e That’s exactly my point. The EV prices went up a lot lately that makes me looking back to gas cars. The cheapest Tesla is no longer $38k. It’s 48k now. And show me where you can get $5.5k EV? It’s impossible. Plus I’m not interested in any other EVs besides Tesla. A base Honda Accord is $27k which comes with apple car play and safety suite. It’s 21k difference compared to the base Tesla. Gas in my area is $3.8 per gallon. With 21k I can buy enough gas for 150k miles which is enough for the life of the car. I know the tesla have better user interface and a few other things but the Honda is known for reliability and low in maintenance costs. Gas cars are better for road trip too which I don’t do a lot but if I have to do one it’s always ready. I still think if you drive a lot a Tesla is great but for my situation a Tesla doesn’t save me any money.

Interesting to see where all the electricity is going to come from to power all these electric cars. Will it come from coal, natural gas or nuclear since solar and wind power only make up 5% of the power grid. Or will we get black outs like in California because their grid is so unstable.

We are considering building something here. In 6 months many of the prices of rawm materials have doubled. Tesla's good business sense is accommodating that, not that we like it. The price of the car has to allow for profit, new charging stations, new production facilities and research and development. Tesla is navigating well. Ford said they're losing money on the mustang.

no it is not impossible to produce 1000/day. giga shanghai produced over 70k vehicles in june, which is well over 1000/day. i mean sure the new factory isnt going to produce numbers like that already, but to say its impossible is not even remotely close to reality, since they already have a factory that is still growing producing twice that number

I think the model 3 will not be coming out of Berlin, but instead the will do a model 2 or something like that...
Model Y is cheaper to produce and basically is better than the model 3...

    • @BizzMRK

The model 2 will never happen especially after the latest price increases. Tesla increased pricing on the Model 3 SR alone nearly as much as the 25k "Model 2" is estimated at.

@@BizzMRK I don't think that they will start a model 3 line in Berlin... because the model Y is almost the same, more european model, and cheaper to produce then a model 3... @@hansh2463 If Tesla keeps the current pricing segments for the Model 3 then there is no point in building the Model 3 in europe, because everyone is just buying the Model Y.
Then again, the Berlin plant is only at 1 of 4 of its building phases and it could be that they add a Model 3 and maybe Model S / X line down the road as well. They are also planning to build a second gigafactory in europe.

The cash flow and profitability for Tesla show just how much Musk is overcharging for his vehicles.
He could reduce the price by $10,000/£10,000 each and still make a profit.

Stop being a moronic wannabe CEO.
Musk does not have to build more factories. He could ramp up production in the USA and either Europe or Asia. If he can't fund expansion from cash flow and minimal borrowings he's entering a world of pain.
You probably have not noticed that interest rates are rising globally furthermore as of June 2022 Tesla Motors has a cash in hand balance of $18.9 Billion and the margin on sales is 14.7% which is a lot higher than most car makers.
      Do your research before posting.

There are more factors than just wanting to be the richest man on earth. He COULD sell them for less, but given demand at these prices, why SHOULD he sell them for less? There are still shareholders he has to answer to. Cutting prices 10K would be drastic. Any significant drop in price would have to correlate to a similar drop in cost to build (materials, labor, shipping costs) for the Street to be happy.
Every other mid luxury and up brand gets to increase their prices and nickel and dime you to death for options, and no one bats an eyelash. But Elon has to lower price.....
