I have a question about the listing because I’ve been wanting to get some of these, when you pay the 28 dollars for the stickers do they send a sticker for every cartridge or is it 28 dollars each, because if it’s for every cartridge that’s a great deal!
San Francisco Rush was my jam back in the day, I remember throwing a cd into my kenwood portable cd player and just racing for hours on end in my bedroom.
Me and my friends too! We always did a circuit with one explosion deaths on. And then take turns when either winning or blowing up. This game had the most awesome physics
Wave Race 64 is still to this day one of my all time favorite racing games period. Nostalgia plays a big part but I have yet to find anything else that matches it's style, challenge and fun factor. Happy to see it on the list!
They ruined driving games with this gen, as most are sims and I dislike sims. You can play these arcade or partly arcade driving games on new gen though: Sonic racers, On Rush, Beach Buggy, Riptide GP2, Baja, Burnout, Moto Racer 4, Gravel, Daytona USA & Hydro Thunder all on the Xbox One.
I miss them as well, if you want good racing games in current generations of console games, look at indie games. That's where all the good racing games are. Horizon Chase Turbo is a great one.
Yep, should have been above some others on the list, but these are personal opinions so you can't really criticize them so much. Still I spent many hours playing this game with my bro.
Racing games were amazing for the n64 because they only needed one stick and it was nice to have shoulder triggers. The extra 3d power was important for making the tracks both diverse and large enough to pair enough other racers on the track without getting too crowded.

Alot of great games mentioned here. Some I will definitely have to check out. Two games I always found myself playing were Destruction Derby and Penny Racers
probably because Wipeout was a staple for the PS1 and thus people don't tend to associate it with Nintendo even though Wipeout64 was definitely amazing
I'm a fan of most of the games on this list, especially Diddy Kong and Star Wars, but there is one N64 racing game I've never heard anyone talk about. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing is an incredible racing game for its time and completely unique from the other games on the list. It totally deserves its own spot. The (partially licensed) soundtrack alone was incredible. It actually convinced me I needed metal in my life....when I was 6! It's as if I'm the only person who knows that gem exists, and it's a travesty. I still have my copy I got from Blockbuster and it still holds up. Edit: I forgot to mention, Lego Racer is another gem I never see anywhere and it's probably my favorite racing game on the system.
It was so hard to convince my friends back in the day how amazing Beetle Adventure Racing was. "I know it's just the same car with different paint, but seriously guys, this game is amazing!" Part of the problem was also that other kids my age just weren't into straight up racing games. It was either stuff like Mario Kart or nothing. I thank my dad for getting me into racing games at such a young age. Nowadays I can spend just as many hours playing Forza Horizon as I could just about anything else.
"they were all about fun" What a novel concept these days, especially with racing games. I got Need for Speed PS4 in a bulk sale (a sale that scored me Mario Galaxy New in Box no less) and I tried to play it and I spent an hour driving from one place to another just to watch 10 minute cut scenes every time. I gave up on it.
Yeah, it's kinda sad that I consider World Driver Championship as one of the best and most fun semi-realistic racing games I ever played despite playing it for the first time last year. These days it really feels like it's either a Sim (which I do like), a Arcade / Retro tribute like Horizon Chase and Forza Horizon being left as the only real option for "Have some stupid fun with cars"
@@Soonjai I REALLY want someone to make a Motorstorm game with modern graphics and physics. Apocalypse was a such a fun and spectacular game. Tracks with giant set pieces that crumble and explode around you as you race through the chaos? Shut up and take my money!
EXTREME G! It was a random Xmas present one year but it has its own style and music. Definitely enjoyable. I also had this weird like for automobili lamborghini n64 even though to most it was a bit bland. It was regular rental for me back in the day. And lastly one of the Motocross games I enjoyed quite a bit. Forget which one exactly.
Good list. Mickeys Speedway is an underrated game. The graphics are well put together and don't loko as clashy as most early 3D games do. Have you ever driven a real RC car?
I have a bit of a personal relationship with F-Zero X and Extreme G. Those games actually helped me conquer a childhood fear of roller coasters with inversions. Now, thanks to playing those games, I can ride anything.
+SkyHighGam3r The EU-PAL Version does have Beetles aswell. HSV was exclusive to australia.. kinda expensive because of it. Much like snowboard kids 2 which only had PAL release in australia but was never released in europe.
N64 was an amazing system. I still own my. Glad I could play almost this entire list. Thanks for this man, brought some really nice family and friends memory.
The reason the Beetle game reminds you of Need For Speed is that it originally was planned as an N64 NFS game, there's hidden text that can be found in the debug mode to prove this.
Fun tip for Metal Jesus! If you let off the accelerator while going over boosts or using blue balloons in Diddy Kong Racing, you boost even faster (the flames will be green instead of purple)! This is really key for unlocking TT in the time trials section. Love the video!
Star Wars Pod Racer was my absolute favorite. I've never been a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, but the music, the sense of speed and the levels just came together perfectly. I'm really excited for the re-release!
We only had about ten N64 games growing up but two of them were racing games, Lego Racer 64 and Rush 2. I spent so many hours playing both of those games. This video makes me see how many other games I was missing out on. Too bad I wasn't in charge when I was a kid.
Rush 2049 was by far the best racing game on n64. i still play it with my son. The stunt levels are amazing, and the regular racing is a lot of fun. i love being able to play the courses mirrored or backwards, because they feel like completely different stages, and finding the secret shortcuts is always a good time
Need some Micro Machines 64 Turbo in this list! Probably my most played racing game on N64 and I had the vast majority of the other racing games in this video. Micro Machines was a great update to the originals on NES and Genesis and Codemasters really nailed it with this one. This game actually had 8 player support where two people would share each controller. We need more Micro Machines love!
Funny that you mention Beetle Adventure Racing feeling like an early NFS game. It was actually developed by EA as an NFS game for 64. But after the deal with VW was finalized, they went and made it a beetle exclusive game. But it is a need for speed game, in a way lol
It was sure a fun gamble move back then. It would either put you way ahead or way behind. 😄 I was more of player that caused havoc. Who else diarrhea'd bananas on the Zip pad that jumped the gap in Wario Stadium to pretty much screw the NPCs or sometimes other players? 🤣
Yeah, removing the ability to jump from high sections of rainbow road down to lower sections in the sequel games really took away from the charm of the franchise, I think. Ruining the Wario Stadium Jump was always the best, sucks that no entries since then had an equivalent section
I have a retro arch with all the games I own licenses to. I loved being able to dig through my carts, custom labels and some in blockbuster cases. Some even have the nostalgic "property of" blue tamper proof stickers! Alas.. my physical media has all been packed away for safe keeping. I wish I had a collection like yours, but through the years it was hard to hang on to anything.. especially in the days of wheeling and dealing stuff like Pokemon cards for high value items. A Charizard for 007 GoldenEye seemed like a great idea at the time. Lol. Thanks for sharing this and all your other nostalgic throwbacks with us. Stay well, my friend.
Loved the Extreme G titles on N64, and Wipeout 64 was pretty solid, too (really great soundtrack on that one). My best friend and I played the hell out of Episode 1 Racer on the N64, such a fun game. Ridge Racer 64 was my racing game of choice on the system, though, by far. Huge number of cars, fantastic tracks, and great visuals and audio. It was basically a port of Rage Racer on the PS1, but with a lot more polish and flare to the tracks and cars.
Beetle Adventure Racing is actually a Need For Speed game, it was to be a NFS game but got reskinned. A debug menu found a couple of years ago comfirmed this
I was wondering if anyone would mention this. That's why i always hated that game. No beautiful sportscars, only a shitty VW! I always thought, the N64 wasn't a great console for racing games... But i'm not a fan of the 64 in general: The fog, the controller. And these first gen. 3D graphics... MJ also mentioned it, every racing game, that was also on the Dreamcast, was better there. Of course, the DC was already second gen. 3D. I have both consoles (among others) and the used games for DC (or even new ones, when they got rid of it in stores) were so much cheaper. Sega all the way...
Wave Race was a game that I would consistently throw into my system ever week. It is easily one of the best racing games ever created, I have Blue Storm as well on GameCube, but the first one is just incredible, it blew me away with the stunts and the free-styling you can do on your jet-ski, the different styles of the racers, and the maps how they change every lap just made the game sooo re-playable and fun as hell to play. One of the best games still to this day. I would love to see a new version of it on the Switch with online gameplay, would be an insane title.
San Francisco Rush was the game everyone asked me to put on when I was little and imo it has to be top 3 with mario kart and diddy kong racing they honestly need to remaster san fran rush and diddy kong racer at least as a download only titles
Wave Race was my very first N64 game I ever played. Remember going to my best friends birthday party way back in the day and his mom rented the console and the game for us all to play. Was a huge change for me since we only played NES and never SNES at the time.
I can not wait to get another N64 console. I love silly arcade racing games. Looking forward to playing the Diddy Kong, Mario Kart, and Mickey Mouse racing games with my daughter. I'm introducing her to the older games and we slowly working our way to the newer and refined HD games we have today. You giving us great feed back into retro games makes it so easy for us to pick and choose what games to invest into. Thanks MJR you never disappoint 🤘
i know this video is 3 years old at this point, but i just started collecting n64 racing games that i enjoyed....the list for me is: hydro thunder(that i just got today), all of the crusin games, off road challenge, and all of the san francisco rush games.
Hi! This is unrelated to the content of this video, but I want to thank MJR for doing what he does! After taking a hiatus from gaming during college and for a couple years after graduating, I'm getting into it again. I grew up with handhelds -- gameboy color, gameboy advance, and DS. Because of quarantine, I've really had an opportunity to delve into videos and devote time to games I love. It is so fun! And this channel is part of what reinspired my love of videogames. Some aspects of the gaming community online are off putting to me -- from being unwelcoming to women or harboring toxic / negative personalities. It's been awesome to discover great people doing great things, despite initial hesitations. So thank you for offering content that is relaxed, funny, informative and approachable. It means a lot!
Cruis N' USA is the first video game of my own. I grew up in the 90s and before the N64 was not mine, older cousin and older brothers of my friends had NES SNES and Genesis but N64, this was mine. So cool.
Cruisin USA was one of my favorite games for the 64, it was also one of the first games i owned for it, played it to absolute death with my brothers, unlocked everything. Such a great game. Another amazing video, ty for all the content you put out and everything you do.
Great picks, but I feel Wipeout 64 deserves a mention, too! The sense of speed is amazing, and it was the first game in the series to have analogue controls, something we take for granted today :)
Hey Metal Jusus, the reason why Beetle Adventure Racing reminds you of early Need for Speed games is because it was published by Electronic Arts who were initially working on their new Need for Speed game for the 64 but then signed a deal with Volkswagen!
One cool thing about episode one racer on the N64 was that you could actually use two controllers at the same time, one joystick controls the left engine and the 2nd joystick controls the right engine...just like in the movie!!
Ridge Racer 64 is probably my favorite racer on the console! It's always overshadowed by its PS1 counterparts like Ridge Racer Type 4. But, it adds enough gameplay tweeks and vehicles to keep you coming back for more! I definitely wanna see you cover it next time!
I saw five games in the thumbnail that I would absolutely LOVE to play again: Waverace, Crusin the world, San Francisco Rush, Episode One pod racer and the one in the actual console Hydro Thunder. I use to play ALL of those games in the arcade, and I miss them a lot!
Beating Diddy Kong Racing (as well as the reverse tracks game you can play if you beat the regular game) was one of the most fun and tough things I've ever done. Beating Waveracer was also a blast. Two of the greatest games of all time imo.

Boi Re-Volt is amazing! just the fact it gets updated and there are recent mods (cars, tracks etc) (for the PC mind you) keeps me coming back
Alot of great games mentioned here. Some I will definitely have to check out. Two games I always found myself playing were Destruction Derby and Penny Racers
for me one of my favourite racing games on the N64 was Wipeout64. Somehow I never see it mentioned anywhere in those lists...
probably because Wipeout was a staple for the PS1 and thus people don't tend to associate it with Nintendo even though Wipeout64 was definitely amazing
@@bojinglebells Wipeout 64 is not popular. Very cheap game. The ps1 version [and sequels] is way better. Mainly due to the music.
Wow, looking through the comments I'm definitely not the only one with good taste
I'm surprised at how many of these genes I didn't even know about. Thanks for another great vid MJ 👍
Michael Jackson?

It was so hard to convince my friends back in the day how amazing Beetle Adventure Racing was. "I know it's just the same car with different paint, but seriously guys, this game is amazing!"
Part of the problem was also that other kids my age just weren't into straight up racing games. It was either stuff like Mario Kart or nothing. I thank my dad for getting me into racing games at such a young age. Nowadays I can spend just as many hours playing Forza Horizon as I could just about anything else.
"they were all about fun"
What a novel concept these days, especially with racing games.
Waverace 64 is the perfect example. I can launch that game anytime and have genuine *fun*
Even the original Xbox NFS games are better and still look good graphically.
@@bmx7596 because the 6th gen was amazing
Beetle Adventure Racing is a masterpiece way ahead of its time.
These are some great games. I actually found Top Gear Rally to be my favorite N64 racer alongside F-Zero X. There's just so much nostalgia in both.
Same! Top gear rally is one of the few rally games I ever got into, and I played it a lot. Was a bit sad when he said it isn't that good.
Thanks to you, I love Beetle Adventure Racing!
Glad to hear it!
Try out the PAL Version! It's called "HSV Adventure Racing" Same amazing game, but no stupid Beetles lol
+SkyHighGam3r The EU-PAL Version does have Beetles aswell. HSV was exclusive to australia.. kinda expensive because of it. Much like snowboard kids 2 which only had PAL release in australia but was never released in europe.
@@retropulse03 Had no idea about this version of the game, thanks! And yea, like @Big Lebowski said, it seems likes it was only released in AUS!
Hot wheels turbo racing and LEGO racing :) both were fun! I liked the tricks you could do in hot wheels better than stunt racer
Thank you 🤗
Hot Wheels was amazing, I still have a PS1 copy of that one. We used to play it a lot on the N64 back in the day.
Hot Wheels Turbo Racing is definitely the superior stunt racer on the system, IMO. Played so smoothly too.
Can't believe how good Top Gear: Overdrive still looks!
Fun tip for Metal Jesus! If you let off the accelerator while going over boosts or using blue balloons in Diddy Kong Racing, you boost even faster (the flames will be green instead of purple)! This is really key for unlocking TT in the time trials section. Love the video!
Cruisn World is one of my faves.
I'd like a Cruisn collection on Switch.
Off Road Challenge is a gem
rush 2049 only honorable mention?!?!?1 check it out on mame PC with a 60fps hack and a logitech wheel/pedals if u can... it's AMAZING
Source for a setup guide in a forum post or anything please?
That sounds amazing. Thanks!
Rush 2049 is extremely demanding, you need an i9 to emulate it at those speeds in MAME.
Here, take a look at the setup mentioned above:

Diddy Kong Racing, Xtreme-G, Wave Race 64 and F-Zero X are always reasons to come back to my N64, but what I really love is Ridge Racer 64.
Used to play a lot of Destruction Derby. Loved it!
The N64 is still my favorite console for arcade racers. I just finished Off Road Challenge. A short but fun arcade racer.
N64 was the first ever console i ever touched. AHHH those times when i was kid
Same! I remember loosing my self entirely into Super Mario 64...
Love you too 😭😭😭
Re-volt I rediscovered few days ago on the pc and the community is super alive! Love it!
San Fransisco rush was one of my favourites
Star Wars Pod Racer was my absolute favorite. I've never been a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, but the music, the sense of speed and the levels just came together perfectly. I'm really excited for the re-release!
Jason, you should check out Roadster, one of my favorite N64 racers!
We only had about ten N64 games growing up but two of them were racing games, Lego Racer 64 and Rush 2. I spent so many hours playing both of those games. This video makes me see how many other games I was missing out on. Too bad I wasn't in charge when I was a kid.
It's time games came on vinyl records. Game discs are just too small.
I hear you. I'm always losing game discs or i break em cos they're just too brittle. The bigger the better. And thus bigger and better games.
there were some on laserdisc
Rush 2049 was by far the best racing game on n64. i still play it with my son. The stunt levels are amazing, and the regular racing is a lot of fun. i love being able to play the courses mirrored or backwards, because they feel like completely different stages, and finding the secret shortcuts is always a good time
No Road Rash 64??? That's one of my favorites
No Wipeout 64? Instant fail. After Mario Kart 64 and Beetle Racing, its the best.
Love you 😘❤️
I think of Nintendo makes a console like the N64 but with the new tech we have with 1080p60fps that will be sick to play the old game
Rally Challenge 2000 anyone? Had a black colored cartridge
Funny that you mention Beetle Adventure Racing feeling like an early NFS game. It was actually developed by EA as an NFS game for 64. But after the deal with VW was finalized, they went and made it a beetle exclusive game. But it is a need for speed game, in a way lol
Who's got love for the hero's that died attempting the rainbow road leap of faith haha ❤️
More of a speedrun strategy, not too tough. :)
Good times haha
It was sure a fun gamble move back then. It would either put you way ahead or way behind. 😄
I was more of player that caused havoc. Who else diarrhea'd bananas on the Zip pad that jumped the gap in Wario Stadium to pretty much screw the NPCs or sometimes other players? 🤣
I love you
Yeah, removing the ability to jump from high sections of rainbow road down to lower sections in the sequel games really took away from the charm of the franchise, I think.
Wave Race 64 and F-Zero X are masterpieces that are still worth playing today.
In my opinion Sonic and Sega all star racing transformed it's my best racing game I playing in my life
I can not wait to get another N64 console.
Loved beetle adventure racing. Fully unlocked all easter eggs of that game.

Yes! Mickey's Speedway USA!!!! A fave!
The music is great too!
Cruis N' USA is the first video game of my own. I grew up in the 90s and before the N64 was not mine, older cousin and older brothers of my friends had NES SNES and Genesis but N64, this was mine. So cool.
Quick shout out for the often-forgotten WipeOut 64, which was ace.
Hands down San Francisco RUSH and RUSH 2 were some of the best racing games on N64, me and my friend must have played hundreds of hours.
I'm glad San Francisco Rush 2049 got a shout out near the end, I have so many memories with that game. Its probably my number one racer on the system.
