this was the mos helpful video i found on all of youtube for the volkswagon beetle 2004 turbo engine thank you so much your video is easy to follow and the editing is amazing. you are great :)
honestly, i don't know. I'm not professional Michanic lol. But I think if you have only the rear lefted, maybe you won't beable to get % 100 of the old oil out but say at least %95- %97 out. that's good enough for me. if you wish to drain the oil while the car leveld, you can put a jack stand on every corner so the car is all lefted and leveled with the floor. or if it stock height, might not need to Jack the car up to begin with but mine is too low. I also recomand open the filer plug before draining so air gos in as it draining. it will make the draining process Alot easy. good luck.
+Drew Storms it's like people with front engines, changing their engine oil while only front wheels on ramps, lol. what my dad do, he blowes with his mouth where oil fill cap go, and more oil comes out. but, i believe the little little tiny old oil left not gonna harm, plus oil filter will do it's job on cleaning engine oil. but anyways, good observation, next time doing trans flude, i might try to left the car on all four corners.
my car grinds down shifting to gear 1st and I'm thinking it's the oil, clutch adjustment is good and clutch, and shifter adjust and bushing is good, oil????
i dont think it's the oil, but give it a shot. change ur oil and see what happen. also make sure your carpet not in the way prevenring the clutch from going far enough.
sorry for the late replay but all vw aircooled are pretty much the same. i never owned or worked on buses but I'm assuming you have type 1 trans/ engine setup. so yes is the same.
you have to know where is it leaking from. when you remove your engine, replace the rear shaft seal (i don't remamber what it called but it's in the back behind the throw out bearing). and yes change the through out bearing because they break and very annoying to replace but if your engine already out, replace it even if it good so you will avoid trouble down the road.
I didnt had much of options. i lived in small town and we had only one small autopart stor. very very small store. so that was only available on the shelf lol. so i used it.
Very well done video, made simple and to the point. Thank!
make sure the fill plug can be removed, BEFORE you drain the fluid !
That's what I was about to say. 🙂
Why does everyone always complain about something not relevant to the video. HIS video HIS music HIS way, simple :)
People like you are why you tube is so great.

Thank you... now if only I could get the filler to loosen... GAH!
Type 2 gearboxes have two drain plugs, there's another inline with the axles. Also you need GL4 spec oil not GL5, an 80w/90 GL4.
answered all my questions
@anwar bunorah --How much fluid does it take to completely change the trans fluid?
big help. ...
I'm glad to hear that.
Do I have to warm up the car before i drain the transmission oil? Please let me know. Thank you
Any issues with draining and filling enough with only the rear of the car lifted? Thanks for the video!

+anwar bunorah thanks a lot for the reply! Yeah- I'm thinking it will work out well enough with just the rear lifted. Again, I appreciate the video!

I cant even watch this video b/c the song remind me of my mom. Literally made a 29 year old man cry.
Is it possible that there is no hole for adding new oil? On t2 vw transprter. We can not find it...
The car is not level. Other than that nice vid.
Stay gold.
The song is Don't Know Me by Omar LinX
thanks!!
nice video! whats the name of the song?
Did you reinstall the drain plug before refilling 🤔😂
I don't really like those little hand pumps. Will try using a longer hose and use gravity.
What size hex is that to undo drain/fill plugs?
It's 17mm :)

I think early swing axel transmissions don't have a synchro gear for 1st so you have to be at a stop before you can shift to first.
Damn great video I've been working on my vw engine sandrail with vw bus trans is this the same meathad?? Can ya pm me please thanks I subed
sorry for the late replay but all vw aircooled are pretty much the same. i never owned or worked on buses but I'm assuming you have type 1 trans/ engine setup. so yes is the same.
+anwar bunorah ty
how can I add transmission fluid without putting my bug on a lift
roberta newman just jack it up
where did you get the pump...?
i got mine from napa.
any auto part store should sell it.
how do you fix it if it leaks?
you have to know where is it leaking from. when you remove your engine, replace the rear shaft seal (i don't remamber what it called but it's in the back behind the throw out bearing). and yes change the through out bearing because they break and very annoying to replace but if your engine already out, replace it even if it good so you will avoid trouble down the road.
How often do you change the fluid?
why not purple gear oil?
I didnt had much of options. i lived in small town and we had only one small autopart stor. very very small store. so that was only available on the shelf lol. so i used it.
Heard of gunk and a little hose. That’s one nasty engine compartment.
cant see too dark
2 things!!! #1 you dont tell the size of the hex socket, #2 the music sucks!!!
Yes the music sux. The socket is 17mm
or make your own by welding a nut on the end of a bolt
agree the music sucks.....
Video good,music sucks
I can do w/o the stupid f---ing rap music.....
