literally just got my turbos yesterday and noticed some of the material missing from the blades an started to freak out lol so this video came in clutch, thank you
I think full cartridge balancing is more important for a ball bearing turbo than a journal bearing turbo. I say that because a ball bearing turbo has the turbine shaft pressed through the bearing inner races and they will spin with the rotor group. In a journal bearing turbo, nothing spins attached to the turbine shaft, so it should be adequately balanced provided it is assembled properly to the match marks.
I am a turbo seller in my country. I pay for them to be manufactured in China and they are of high quality and I have never had a problem with them and each turbo is perfectly balanced and has high quality.
Hey I appreciate your video on the Chinese turbos. I'm doing a custom build on a 7.3 idi n/a on a international truck. I purchased a GTP 38 Chinese turbo and was wondering if you can balance it and if yes how much. I know this is a old post so thanks in advance. JD
These cheap copied parts specifically turbos, have a place, and that place is on crap built solely to have fun and thrash on. It really doesn't matter how balanced or unbalanced one of these hair dryers is, you don't want to put one on something like a dream car that you've spent years planning and building. On the other hand if you're putting together something to go make stupid numbers on a dino, or just a fast fun hotrod with a junkyard Ls and more zip ties than actual fasteners. These cheap parts while absolutely being intellectual property theft, offer an entry level price point that allows people in this community access to forced induction that didn't exist when I was coming up. And getting into a turbo build forces you to learn about everything else that goes with it and that's cool
I’ve had a maxpeedingrod turbo for 3 years that’s dual ball bearing and has holes for coolant and oil lines, since it’s dual ball bearing I’ve only had the oil lines connected and never ran a coolant like to it. Runs fine and haven’t had a issue I do warm the car up before every drive and let it cool down before turning it off after every drive as well
I just did a teardown and comparison between the MXR journal bearing and new ball bearing turbos. To me, the new turbos look to be on par with an old Garrett GT series turbo in general with some more modern features and better materials. Their basic journal bearing turbos are fine, especially for the money, but it's most important to have good oil supply and return. I think the vast majority that die early are due to improper oiling. They should come balanced, journal or ball bearing, but no way to be sure without checking. Don't put a cheap turbo on a high dollar build, but I think they are good value on a cheaper project.
@@rudydaberry122 how long was that, i am thinking of getting one a K04-001 what power did you make with what mods, i have high flow manifold and all stage 2 parts on ibiza 20v
yeah its all good until the compressor disintigrates from shit casting practices and centrifugal force. never mind it being balanced is it a solid part.
I bought a MAHLE turbo off eBay from Germany and one of the turbine blades has a strip of its coating missing along one of its radial edges. It looks like it’s chipped off rather than machined off. It’s a rectangular shape strip of coating that is removed. Is it possible that the missing material is due to it being balanced? there’s no material removal on the nut. I don’t know whether to send it back for a refund or not. I have a picture
@@momentumworx I just need a super core. I already have the diesel power source turbonator exhaust housing I’m going to reuse. . I’m getting turbo surging at low rpm towing. 18-28psi at 1850 rpm I was guided to the 64.5 over the 66 as it seems the compressor map would suit my needs better?
