My auto teacher only put chrisfix and scotty kilmor or somtlike that’s and called it a day lol but I just told I had previous knowledge on cars and moved me up to advance auto like that and I was fixing the districts cars for free since you really can’t get payed for that in high school
Just bought my first turbo car and first 4 banger in over 20 years. It’s been v8’s only since I was in my early 20’s. I’m really enjoying the boosted motor. It’s a lot of fun and I’m already tossing parts at the car. Got downpipe, CAI, 67mm throttle body, turbo blanket, strut tower brace. Next is new intercooler and full exhaust and tune and e85!
Love the math parts in the videos. Not only are your videos entertaining but also educative in the best way possible. Zach has his own way of explaining things in a simplified and yet rich with info way.
Absolutely, it takes a very intelligent, knowledgeable mechanic and engineer to explain the most inner workings in a way that most everyone can understand-- its a totally different thing than talking with your buddies or co-workers that already understand this stuff!!
The issue with high low's car wasn't the turbos or how they did it, it was the fact that the turbos were on those engines to begin with, the VQ's found in Nissan Z's have relatively high compression to start and when you add a little very small amount of boost it can be fine but any boost drastically shortens the life of those engines unless you do rods and pistons at the least
Suggestion: paint your facility; Flat black from ceiling down about 1/3rd, with entire ceiling and everything up there same cheap flat black. Semi-gloss gray from that point down to 10 feet off the ground, Then semi-gloss hyper white that is very tough, aka oil-based, from there down to floor, and gray on the floor. Gives a professional atmosphere, raises your credibility. Old furniture store trick. Will end up with more visible light down low, and draw the eye down to your merchandise/cars/subject matter. Same scheme on racks, too. With a guy rolling paint behind on the wall after the spray guy (for gray and white) you will find paint easy to repair, also. Don't just spray it, because spraying makes the repairs hard to hide with just a roller.

Dude I never understood turbos until I watched this video. I made sure to never buy a vehicle with a turbo because I allways thought it was just another item to pay for when it eventually breaks, you made turbo understandable amd not so scary, great very comprehendable video
just a heads up, if you do not port out that internal wastegate housing on that china turbo it WILL NOT regulate the boost without spiking. You need to open up the circle under the wastegate flap and much more importantly change the short turn radius. When those housings are cast the wastegate hole is cast perpendicular to the flow. The hot fast moving air will not effectively turn 90 degrees to flow out the wastegate and it will never hold boost without overboosting

Great stuff, for me it is 15-17 years ago I installed the last turbo of 200. So to see young people still installing turbos in now more and more EV days makes me smile.
The idea of turbo kits is great, it's usually the ground zero for many first timers, but I see them as a stepping stone to the learning curve only.. You end up learning what's needed though the whole ordeal where if you ever do it again, you'll probably take a wiser approach and shop wisely, spec'ing out your list of odds and ends into a spreadsheet if you have insight on these odds and ends where you may as well count the engine in on some refresher parts if it's coming out for the retro-fit
I know it’s petty, but me too. Or point at the actuator and call it a waste gate as he says it will actuate. Yes I know it’s the waste gate actuator, but it’s still not the actual waste gate, hence it actuating. 🤣

When you do the exhaust wrap, make sure you explain the science about how exhaust wraps and insulating the hot side of the turbo actually increase HP. That's one of my biggest mind-blown moments with cars to discover that that actually works.

Thanks for going over compressor maps. I wish people understood compressor maps... I can put a HUGE turbo and flow 5 PSI and blow my motor where the small turbo on it now peaks around 18-20PSI and comes nowhere near harming the motor.

Look up speed engineering, they make turbo kits for silverado/sierra/tahoe/yukon etc.

The adapter to fit a AN fitting into the 94 block is vibrant performance 16606. It adapts the m10x1.5 oil feed to a -4AN which fits the oil feed.

Used to work manufacturing turbos. A guy had an mx5 and put 2 HX40 turbos on it. The lag was insane but so was the speed when those bad boys span up.
