I totally agree with you that the seats have been the best car seats I’ve ever had. My local service advisor in NYC hasn’t heard of that issue, but will have it checked when my service appt comes up. Unfortunately booking appts is horrendous, it’s been 2 months and I’m still waiting. At least I’ll have valet pick up and a loaner.😊
Thanks Stan, glad I was finally able to give this amazing EV some screen time! Hahah yes, finally hit the court after about a year off of recovering from my 2nd torn Achilles! Now that you mention it I don't remember my side bolsters contracting either when entering sport mode. I'll have to check that again. I feel you about those service appts, took me 2 months as well to get in. Thankfully we have the valet loaners, that makes the wait worth it for me haha.
Btw- just curious…the dealer I originally bought the car from said they only do Valet pick up within a 10 miles radius. Have you (or your other readers?) come across this issue? I’m about 30 miles away but was never told of this “limitation” when I purchased the car. I’ve subsequently booked my Svce appt at another dealer that’s closer, but prefer to go to my original dealer as they were EV-certified longer.
HI. Try using 10 keys to disconnect the negative terminal of the 12-volt battery for 1 minute. The system will restart. And that may help with the sport seat setting.
Thanks for the review! On the phantom braking - I've only encountered this once in my GV60. I think it has to do in part to a delayed warning response from the sensors detecting an object. When I experienced it, I was accelerating out from behind another car. Admittedly I got pretty close as I was moving to the other lane. So I wasn't surprised that my safety beeps went off, but they were late and so I got the emergency braking response when I was pretty much in the other lane already. I wonder if you experienced the same thing that video you posted. I haven't had the sudden braking since, but I do still notice the safety warnings going off later than they should sometimes.
You're welcome! Your experience sounds very similar to the one posted so maybe there's some software issues at play. I do get that very frequently when pulling out of parking spots and there are cars around that are in motion. The other two times it happened I was driving very slowly, once was with the whole family in the car on a Sunday afternoon. I made very safe left turns like someone trying to pass a driver's test but the car stopped us dead in our tracks. I wish it was easy to replicate but that's been the problem, they haven't been able to replicate. I even tried to replicate it myself where I left turned aggressively in the gv60 while my wife crossed the intersection in our ioniq 5. Did about 10 passes and couldn't get the car to emergency brake a single time. So it's very unpredictable currently.
My performance has the 17 speaker B&O system. I believe the B&O comes standard on all trims here in the US, not sure if that's the case in other markets.
Looking at ether a Refreshed 2025 Tesla Model Y or a Genesis GV60. Leaning toward the GV60 even more since you said what you did about the seat comfort, which is especially important for me with 3 bulging disc's that are inoperable due to Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Thanks for your Driver Centric review! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
I too have bulging discs! The GV60 seats are very supportive, probably the best I've experienced outside of Volvo. My 2023 Model Y seats are okay, I'm fine for 2-3 drives but probably not more than that. The upcoming refresh model y seats should be similar to the 2024 refresh model 3 seats, I have not had a chance to try them out yet but I would imagine they would be just a little bit better than the current generation. If seat comfort matters, try the gv60 or electrified gv70 (has similar seat). Or try the xc40 or c40 recharge from Volvo. The Volvos are short on range and slower to charge but the seat comfort is top notch.
@@CarsJubilee Thanks so much for your comment. I had a Volvo S80 and it had super comfortable seats. I haven't spent enough time in a Tesla to know, but the reviews have me leaning towards the GV60 or 70. Thanks for your input. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
@CLCIII you're welcome! I'd say Tesla seats are actually well above average, I've spent time in a lot of different cars and it's definitely towards the top end in terms of comfort and support. If you can wait, I think the refresh model y is going to be hard to beat in terms of what it offers. But Genesis EVs are definitely more luxurious inside and the seats are more adjustable. Best of luck on your decision!
@@CarsJubilee Thanks so very much. I'm sure God Has A Plan And Will Reveal His Will As I Wait On And Seek It. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Thanks for a warts and all review of this car. I have the fully loaded ( except for digital wing mirrors) Premium RWD model (bought June 2022) in the UK. I simply enjoy being in and driving this car - comfortable, luxurious, practical (boot space/length/HVAC and other controls), swift (though not a rapid as the more powerful Sport or Sport Plus versions), great tech, great efficiency (3.5 mi/kWh over the life of the car some 12K miles into my second Winter and having done some Summer road trips) , great range and fantastic charging speed. I truly haven’t seen another car, in the 16 months I’ve owned this, which I’d rather have. For me with a single toddler child family it is perfect!
You're welcome and glad yours has been doing well! I love it even though it's had some issues, such an amazing small but big inside EV. Great for urban settings with small families.
Mine rides a little rough. I figured it was the oversized wheels and low profile tires. Maybe my tires are just too flat-spotted from sitting on the lot too long. I should have pushed for them to replace them before agreeing to taking it.
Normally flat spotting should go away after a little bit of driving. It's possible the foam inside your tires has detached, pretty common ev tire issue.
Hi, I have the same car since 6 months. No phantoms issues, but problems with my fingerprints too. The left rear seat buckle damage my seat cover. Many recalls from Genesis, front passenger seat belt two times, rear axles changed and ICCU update. How about you ? Very good service from my dealer.
Oh wow did they replace seat cover? Ya mine has been at dealership for past 10 days getting recall and warranty repair work done. I love the valet loaner service so I don't have to spend time on servicing. Very good service experience from them but my software issues and phantom braking are too advanced for them to handle.
@@CarsJubilee I called someone to repair it, and after I see that the seat belt buckle was responsible. If that situation happen again, they will replace the whole cover. The problem is the back is too tight when I fold down. I must be sure than the buckle is up. Repair is never more than a day 😉
Hello Victor how are you . I have now been driving my GV 60 for 15 months like you I still love the car, if you remember way back i was also having a slight problem with the phantom braking , it seem they have cured mine with a complete up dates as I haven't had it happen since, the only other real problem I was not able getting the pre conditioning to work it turned out the problem was with the nav system all working good now . I just did a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary my total round trip was 2500 miles no problem at all loved the car so easy to spend hours in this car . My range was also very good 280 to 310 miles and the best part is here in BC we have many Chevron EV fast chargers and they are free . I have not paid for any charging since last Nov , I have a charger at home I have only used it once just to see how it works. I agree with you this has to be one if not the best EV on the market dollar for dollar. Also like you my finger print reader is hit and miss door camera 100% . If there is one thing I would t like o change it would be the centre console I wish it would slide like the Ioniq 5 . Thanks Victor great video.
Hey Shaun, glad to hear they were able to fix your issues! I'm jealous of the service dept you have working on your car! That's excellent efficiency you are getting, just one of the many great features about the gv60. Glad you are enjoying it!
Most left-turn shutdowns are caused by battery cell liquid shifting. If you don't have a liquid electrolyte battery in this car, then look for stability control problems not throwing-up codes.
Mine are very specific left turns where it only happens when cutting through opposing traffic. If there's no one nearby it doesn't happen. I remember back in the day when some cars would shutoff if you went full turn with the steering wheel at slow speeds.
Got android pixel 7 pro digital key working in early August! Its a bit tricky to set up but there are instructions out there on a forum (I think they are labeled for the Ioniq 5, but it works). Have definitely found that to be a bit less reliable than it is on the samsung phone though. Have had no issues with the fingerprint reader at least. Mine definitely always taps the breaks on the way into the garage, every time, but I park very closely to objects.
Whoa they finally added compatibility? I just checked on my new Pixel 8 Pro and it's showing as compatible, finally after 1.5 years haha. But I followed the prompts and checked that it was enabled on my account but getting error that it cannot pair. Do you happen to have the forum link? I tried searching but none of them seem to discuss it too in depth.
I actually just spent the last week in a loaner E-GV70 haha. The gv60 actually has more leg room, according to specs and by feel. I was quite surprised. Ah I keep wanting to sample the g90 but they don't have one in the loaner fleet. E-G80 is the closest I've gotten.
Thanks for the great info!! When I was looking for the EV I wanted, I tried out the EV6, Ariya, Mach-e and the Ioniq5 and 6 (the EV9 was not yet available at the time). I decided on the Ioniq 5 because with my tall frame it had the most headroom. Although I never tried the Genesis, the GV60 looks comparable to the roofline of the EV6 which was very cramped getting in and out for me. That being said, I'm so impressed with the things Genesis has added here that I may seriously consider the GV70 when the time comes to trade my Ioniq 5.
Thank you for your videos. The phantom braking is basically what scares me off from buying a GV60. I’m looking forward to the VW id7 for now. The GV60 def has the style I like, but the safety issues, combined with lower range, are too much for me to put money into.
You're welcome, I think the phantom braking is a problem that may be specific to only my car. Other owners are making left turns without issue. I'm pretty sure if Genesis gave me a different GV60 that I wouldn't be having these issues. I've asked, they've refused to lend one to me or swap me into a different one. I actually wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I were in the market right now, I don't think this phantom braking is widespread. It's the best car I've ever owned but just a bad experience with corporate and poor smart phone app issues. I wish I could have the gv60 but with the Tesla app.
I've had my GV60 since February 2023, and haven't had a single phantom breaking moment. To his point, it's probably a specific issue to his car only. I'd recommend this car in a heartbeat.
I've also never had a phantom braking moment. But I also set the nannies to "alert only" because I fear technology braking for me. It still did it once though, I'm 90% sure. I rolled forward with every intent to bump my garbage can. I swear it braked on me. Can't confirm though, as the tech was disabled and regen was level 3 with my foot touching the brake. Prob a coincidence.
Have not had electronics problems with the safety systems. Did have the ICCU issues but the update seems to have handled it. When I had an issue with a local service center, corporate was very helpful and even refunded me a whole months payment to help make up for the problems. I swapped to another service center which has been great. Digital key I was able to get working on my pixel 7 pro, however, it definitely works better on my newer samsung.
Wow that's very interesting, are you sure the genesis dealers aren't moving to their own facilities? That's what's happening to my Genesis dealer, their new separate facility is under construction.
Cherry Hill, NJ? Great to see a fellow NJ content creator and great review! I'm looking to get into my first EV in the next year or 2 and found this very informative.
For the left turn phantom breaking in the ionic 5. Is it just that 1 location or is it multiple locations? Do the other 2 cars have a problem with that same location?
3 different intersections, only happens to my GV60. I've driven the same roads and made the same turns in all 3 of our EVs and it's only ever happened in the gv60.
To my knowledge mine is the only one that's had this issue. Im convinced there's a sensor that's malfunctioning but dealership and corporate refuse to replace them.
Navigation and minor user interface updates only (like a new background clock screen, reskinned pages, etc) OTA. I've had about 2 OTA updates in over 1 year that were all very minor cosmetic changes. GV60 needs to go to the dealership for true software updates that affect the drivetrain etc. I've had about 3 software updates with my Model y in about 4 months, much more substantial updates as well like adding functionality to buttons, new game, etc. What you see is what you get for the most part with the gv60, it's not going to be 'getting better' over time with updates because of how infrequent and how limited those updates are.
There was a major OTA update in late summer 2024. Added wireless CarPlay, and Apple Maps now show up in the cluster display and the heads up display. It’s almost like a new car, fantastic. I’ve now had the car for 9 months and absolutely love it. There have been no problems of any kind. It’s really great for long road trips, and the HDA2 system is fantastic. Victor’s comments about the jog wheel are spot on, it’s great, and it also works with CarPlay. Like any EGMP car, the charge curve is amazing. I’ve never spent more than 20 minutes at a charger, and usually 15. I get a thrill every time I drive it, even to the store. Victor, haven’t seen any content from you in a while, hope you’re ok. I watched a bunch of your videos before I purchased.
Hey Victor. Got a question on a GV60 feature that I can't seem to find the answer: Is there a speed limit setting that notifies you with an audio sound when you exceed the posted speed limit? I can only find the visual notification setting (i.e. speed limit icon turns red). Just thought if either you or your viewers can help. Many thanks.
@@CarsJubilee Victor, do you know if it's possible to look at a GV60's charging history? e.g., how many times it was charged to 100% or nearly drained, how much fast charging it experienced, etc. I'm considering a used one and wondered if I can determine how much the battery was pampered.
@BrettBurdick there's not really an easy way unless they had a recurrent account, then all their charging would be logged there. BUT if whoever is selling is willing to charge to 100% and then let you plug in an OBD2 reader, you can follow my instructions in my battery degradation video to get an idea of how the battery has held up. If they won't charge to 100%, you can still run the same test but you will have to do some math to figure out what the remaining energy.
I think I've been extremely fortunate on that front. My Ioniq 5 and GV60 have not had a single home charging issue. I've charged at 40amps with no issues. My charger can do 48amps but I've never tried it on that setting. I know my breaker and wiring can handle it but it's pushing the limits so never tried. So surprisingly I seem to have avoided this issue. I feel for all of you that have had that as a major issue. That's like not being able to fill gas into a gas car. Hyundai needs to come up with a true fix - wire size related, not just software updates that limit charging speeds to decrease heat.
Looks like a SW update should fix the phantom brakes. Even Tesla no longer has Much phantom brakes and only occurs when AUtopilate is engaged. So these brakes just happen even when u are controlling the car?
I believe it is a sensor issue, it only happens when I am in full control and making an unprotected left turn through opposing lanes. This is very different from Tesla phantom braking which is always tied to the driver using autopilot. My Genesis phantom brakes only in a specific scenario with no driver assistance setting engaged.
Unfortunately no, they've been adamant that there's nothing wrong. I've turned the whole thing over to my lemon law attorney since Genesis doesn't seem to be taking it seriously.
I’m in Oregon and for some reason there is no Genesis dealership nearby. You say this is your daily driver, how much are you using the Model Y? I’m hoping the 2025 Ioniq 5 will have substantial improvements so I’m waiting for that to come out.
That's surprising that they don't have a Genesis dealership out there yet. On the plus side when they eventually do get out there it'll probably be a standalone one vs all the half Hyundai half Genesis ones. We've been taking the Y everywhere we go as a family and my wife has been talking it around for errands too. Only about 1500 miles on it in about 3 months but that should pick up in the next few months when my wife goes back to work. I'm very curious to see what they do for 2025, I'm afraid it may be more cost cutting because they have to sell way below MSRP nowadays to stay competitive. I hope I'm wrong but I have a hard time seeing them making major improvements, well maybe a rear wiper haha.
I love my gv60 - but I have one complaint. The phone charger is unusable. It cooks my phone - so hot it shuts down and that impacts car play. I took it to Genesis and their response was a shrug. I’ve seen similar complaints … I now have to plug in a cable and charge it old school. Anyone having similar issues?
Have you tried unlocking the door with a printed photograph of your face? Or a cell phone screen image of your face? Also, the gas version of that car does the same phantom breaking thing. I rented one last year and was going nuts. It was CONSTANTLY stopping at low speeds in twisty areas like at the Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge MA. It was so bad, I swore I would never drive one of those again. :\ Sad to hear it's going on with yours too.
Great review. The phantom braking issue sounds scary. You didn’t mention how the range has held up, but it sounds like you don’t ever drive it very far so maybe you haven’t pushed it.
Thanks! Ya it's mainly used for daily commuting in and around the city so range has not been an issue. In the summer time in city driving I'm seeing close to 300 miles on a full charge. In the winter that goes down to about 240. If I'm doing pure highway driving at speed limit speeds, summer 260 miles and winter 200 miles.
@@CarsJubilee I'm renting a GV60 this weekend, so I've been studying the Owner's Manual. My goodness is it dull reading. Anyway, got to page 425 and read about the "Junction Turning function" that "can help avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle in an adjacent lane when turning left (left- hand drive) or right (right-hand drive) at a crossroad with the turn signal on by applying emergency braking." That sounds exactly like the problem you have had, I immediately remembered this video. Did you see that in the manual?
@@CarsJubilee Ah dang, yeah sounds trickier than I thought. Hope there's some revelation by someone and it gets addressed!
Great video review thanks. Do you have the upgraded B&O sound system or the standard one?
My performance has the 17 speaker B&O system. I believe the B&O comes standard on all trims here in the US, not sure if that's the case in other markets.
@@CarsJubilee Thanks for coming back to me. Yes it’s an upgrade option here in UK on all 3 specs
Repair is never more than a day 😉
Sounds like something is reflecting off of your sensors... GREAT review! I'm going to test drive one....
Thanks! Ya could be, dealership and Genesis engineers have no idea.
@@CarsJubilee my Lexus does it in reverse... 🤦🏾♂️
Nice. The GV70 electrified is about the same size inside. Think I might miss my G90 even if it is 5 years old.
Hi. I work at a forensic lab. Your fingerprint does not change. :)
Hahaha good to know! Any idea why my fingerprint never works on readers consistently?
@@CarsJubilee no clue. I always do different angles on my thumb for phones each time it asks when programming it in
😂😂
I've reprogrammed a bunch of times trying different angles, even tried using different fingers but it just doesn't seem to like my prints.
@@CarsJubilee It's not your print, the devise is buggy. I've had the same experience.
Some Genesis/Hyundai dealers are getting bought out and going Hyundai only near me. Changed twice.
What is your height man? The car behind you looks sooo big!
Hahaha I'm only 5'5" so pretty much everything is going to look big next to me.
)) I was thinking maybe gv60 is a full size SUV!@@CarsJubilee
For the left turn phantom breaking in the ionic 5. Is it just that 1 location or is it multiple locations? Do the other 2 cars have a problem with that same location?
3 different intersections, only happens to my GV60. I've driven the same roads and made the same turns in all 3 of our EVs and it's only ever happened in the gv60.
The phantom breaking sounds troubling...could be a deal breaker
To my knowledge mine is the only one that's had this issue. Im convinced there's a sensor that's malfunctioning but dealership and corporate refuse to replace them.
How about OTA updates for GV60 - are all available same way like for Tesla cars? Or only navigation updates are OTA for GV60 ?
Mine has a chime go off if im using hda and tell it to go over speed limit. I have not heard anything go off otherwise.
Ahh. Hda. That must be it. 🙏 Victor
Low mileage GV60s are showing up used for < $50k which is pretty compelling.
Values have dropped like a rock haha. I think a low mileage performance trim gv60 for under 50k is a crazy good deal.
Hey Victor, have you had any issues like us with I6, I5, charging at home? Lvl2.?
Even Tesla no longer has
Much phantom brakes and only occurs when AUtopilate is engaged.
Have they resolved the phantom breaking issue?
Unfortunately no, they've been adamant that there's nothing wrong.
I've turned the whole thing over to my lemon law attorney since Genesis doesn't seem to be taking it seriously.
@@CarsJubilee thats unfortunate. i'm sorry its been such a hassle.
I appreciate that!
I like that hat. What brand is it? Nice video looking at one of these today. Thanks for the review.
My ICCU failed at 19237 miles :( thankfully it was replaced within 3 weeks. Rental covered by Genesis
12:36 That's a show stopper for me. Very dangerous.
You should report that to authorities. The manufacturer is dragging their feet.
Ah I rarely use the wireless charger since I use a case. But that wouldn't surprise me at all.
Im assuming you have an iPhone? It seems like the iPhones heat up easily, my Samsung never has overheating issues.
Finger may have too dry skin. My android watch tells me my skin is too dry for some functions to work.
Haha possible, I have bad success rates with all fingerprint readers.
Anyway, this weekend should be interesting - I rented a Model Y last weekend so I'm very curious about the difference. I'll be purchasing one of them soon.
Does face unlock work if you are ugly?
Face unlock doesn't discriminate :)
I would never have it record my face or fingerprint. Bu thats just my pref
