    I called Samsung and complained and they sent a service guy out within a week and he replaced the ice-maker at no charge. My unit was out of warranty by over 3 years and I told them I hadn't had ice for almost 2 years and tried everything short of replacing it to get it to work. I think they realize they had a faulty unit and needed to stay ahead of any class action that in the conversation on the internet. Now I'm happy, happy, happy! Thank you Samsung, you really shined! PS: the new unit has a heater in it to stop ice build up.

    Hey Jack Thanks so much for the help
    We paid $1800 for our used side by side with a 12 month warranty from dealer.
    We got them in to fix the Icemaker after a few months .
    When it was out of warranty it froze up again ...I called them and said they should fix it for free because it was the same issue but they still wanted about $160-00
    Thanks for your video i did the Forced Defrost .. It took about 20 minutes before I could get the Icemaker out and remove the big clump of ice that caused it to stop working .
    Gave it a bit of a clean and slid the Icetray back in .. worked perfectly ,, thanks so much
    I am expecting it will likely freeze up again but at least now I know what to do
    Thanks Mate and God Bless you

      If any of you have a Samsung and your ice maker is given you problems go on Facebook and join a group called " Samsung Refrigerator recall U.S.A now" and see how over 60,000 members are getting their money back for their defective Samsung Refrigerators. Even when they are as old as 2014 or earlier. Samsung knows they have a huge problem with their Refrigerators and they are not helping their customers. Very helpful - however, depending on your specific model (mine was slightly different than the one in this video, so the combo never worked for me) make sure to read "smakcanda"s comment. Its the button combination and not the name of the buttons. #1 in left column & #2 in right. Thanks.

    The Fd stands for Forced Defrost. On my model to get it into Forced Defrost I hold the #1 button on Left column + #2 button on Right column. Hold together for a count of about 12, You'll hear one beep then the screen will go blank. I push 2nd button on Right column until I see the code 'Fd'. It will beep during the entire Forced Defrost cycle (so go out or have a shower). It lasts 20 minutes on my fridge. Sometimes that's not enough to defrost the Ice Master fully & I have to do a 2nd cycle. DON'T use a hairdryer, you could wreck plastic parts, just let the Fd cycle warm the ice maker until it's thawed. Then put your fingers at the fridge side of the ice bucket/box marked Ice Master, and push UP. Don't force it. The corkscrew shaped impeller is likely blocked by a partially melted and refrozen 'blob' of ice. I've never had the ice chest around the box frozen up with ice; my problem is I don't use enough icecubes and I have to remember to EMPTY the ice bucket at least weekly or this will happen again. The rest of the freezer's contents will not thaw. The fridge and freezer will continue to operate. The ice maker will start working again as soon as you finish removing the blob of ice and put the plastic box into the ice maker, and you will have ice in a few hours.

      This was SOOOO useful. I spent two hours following everyone's TH-cam instructions and their models where just slightly different than mine so none of the tricks worked. The key isn't the names of the buttons - its what smakcanda here described. #1 button and #2 button in the first and second column respectively. THANK YOU.

      Tech came today and I got up at 6:30 and did 7 consecutive For Ed Defrost modes. Very finicky to get it set. He says it was best defrost ever and he then replaced almost everything in Service Kit including motherboard which with new software is supposed to extend automatic defrosting time.
      He had a similar situation yesterday where whole icemaker was a solid block of ice. Owner was told to unplug refrig and leave doors open for 48 hours to melt ice enough to allow him to return and proceed with parts replacement.

      @smakcanada 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zoecal2013 From the top on my fridge, but they're all slightly different. Keep track of which buttons you pushed to get the ice maker into Forced Defrost and leave it handy in a kitchen drawer because even if you have a Samsung technician come out and do service it WILL happen again. The best advice I got was to empty the ice bin weekly. That eliminates evaporation of sitting ice in bin, that leads to frozen impaled, and spreads to freeze up outside the ice cube bin.

    Thank you so much for this video! This is the second time my ice maker has stopped working. The first time I watched your video and was able to fix it. This time I forgot how, and had to find a video - and I found yours and remembered I watched it the last time. LOL.
    One thing I found that also helped was to take a blow dryer to the opening - it melted the ice faster than just putting the fridge in defrost mode, and more importantly, I didn’t have to listen to that annoying beep forever!

    • @smakcanada
      @smakcanada 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using a blow dryer can cause the plastic parts to melt (with not that much heat); it's a pain, but if you run the fd (forced defrost) regularly there's not so much build-up.

    • @ReinhardtCustoms
      @ReinhardtCustoms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smakcanada thank you for your reply. That is good to know.

  • @AFistfulOfVinyl
    @AFistfulOfVinyl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So my ice bucket is frozen in - it's not coming out without plastic breaking. If I run the Fd, will that also mean the ice bucket will catch the water? I also recognize that means there's a ton more ice, and obviously that means the possibility of a ton more water. I figure I'd set up a towel on the outside dispenser figuring the ice would melt and drain through there.
    Does running Fd affect the temperature of the rest of the refrigerator compartment, or the freezer below?

    Great video thank you for sharing. However just to add my experience here so that others don’t have to go through what I did. When my dispenser stopped working I researched online to see what it could be and everyone seemed to say it was the water inlet valve at the rear or a frozen pipe in the door (not likely in the newer fridges) going to the dispenser. After waiting 2 weeks for the inlet valve and after fitting it, it still didn’t work. I tried everything until I removed and emptied the water reservoir behind the salad crisper. When I reattached it I found the reservoir didn’t refill at all. So I checked that good pressure and water was going to the water inlet valve and it was fine. So I removed the clear/white pipe from the inlet valve at the rear that goes to the reservoir/tank and blew in to it but seemed like it was blocked. I then removed it from the reservoir/tank and pulled it out completely and blew into it. Nothing. It’s a 2 foot pipe and the air wouldn’t go through so I waited a few minutes as I thought it was frozen then suddenly it cleared. Voila! There you have it. Reattached everything, the pipe goes back in from inside the fridge easily, and the tank filled up and water and ice is now perfect. Just that 2 foot pipe! 😂

      I let the Fd mode run until it finishes on its own. It does take a while, maybe a good 30-45 minutes? I haven’t actually timed it. Before sliding the ice container back in, I usually have to knock out (be very careful) any remaining frozen ice around the ice maker. When it’s all cleared, it starts making ice again like normal.

    The quickest and safest way to remove the ice jam in the ice maker is to us a hair dryer on the hottest setting. I just did this for my neighbors Samsung unit last week. Remember to put a towel down to catch the melting water. This should take about 15 minutes. Then you will see that any frost build up and ice jam should gone. If not, continue to use the hair dryer. Replace your ice bucket, shut the freezer door and you should hear the ice cubes dropping in about an hour. Hope this helps?

    In warranty..... guys came by a said common problem. The issue was that the filler tube way in the back that fills the tray needs pulled out/down just about a 1/4 inch or a little more. The tube sits too high or out from the tray and the water was not being directed into the tray well enough allowing a mist to fill the area and freeze.
    no more freezing up or need to defrost

      I let the Fd mode run until it finishes on its own. It does take a while, maybe a good 30-45 minutes? At the end I can usually knock out (be very careful) any remaining frozen ice around the ice maker. When it’s all cleared, it starts making ice again like normal.

    After going into FD mode, does it shut off the freezer also or only the ice maker?

      Ice maker only. Be sure to turn the ice settings off

    So what if it's not making ice but the ice maker isn't frozen over inside but the water works fine just not making ice anymore?

    Mine still won’t come out after FD. I’ve done fd 8 times now. It won’t budge. Any suggestions of what I should do next?

    Thanks, Greta video. Been trying t get Samsung to repair this known problem for 2 months. Have spent numerous hours on phone only to be frustrated with no call back or no scheduled repair. Just cant’t understand how Samsung knows its a problem but has a reluctance (or just don’t care) to fix problem. Will never buy a Samsung product again.

    Thanks for thisn!! So I’m at defrost stage where it beeps like crazy, been doing that for 30 mins … does it stop on it’s own or?

      It stops on its own, but depending on how much ice you have you may need to run it for more than one cycle.

    Lol you do the defrost mode first. Second thing leave bucket in so the water melts into bucket, no need for towels.

    Easier way then defrost mode, take a blow dryer and set it up, or hold it there. Takes literally 3-4 minutes. Be careful with water and electricity obviously, but I have to do this once a month.

    Thanks for sharing this was exactly my problem. I defrost the entire refrigerator for almost 24 hrs
    Only today I cleaned up and I now await it to restart. So how long will restart to make ice.

    Why can’t you use the defrost mode to get the ice defrost before you remove the tray?

  • @73beetle19

    I had the same problem and I started defrosting my ice maker with a hair dryer every three weeks. I would throw my ice out and start all over. Today I put in a new ice maker. I’m waiting to see how it does.
