Is it possible to remove the entire outer box and ice maker? I’m done with the freeze ups and bought an under-counter ice machine for our kitchen renovation. Would be nice to have the extra fridge space if this was removed completely.

I gave up ! Turned it off permanently and just buy ice ! It freezes up too much ! Won’t buy anything Samsung again , put force defrost and it still doesn’t make ice ! Not worth the trouble !

FYI, the defrost cycle stops automatically after about 15-20min. Run it again if needed. Dryer method works too if you want to explore that option instead. Do whatever you feel like doing.

I fixed mine by Unplug /Disconnect water line after shutting water off to it and disconnect it totally/take out filter ( when reinstall be sure have filter full of hot water from submerged)/ Open freezer and get to blowing hot air from where water comes into tray and whole area for about a half hour/Reconnect water line and filter with hot water in it and then p[lug in fridge. run water for about 6 tall glasses .Reset freezer to -4 and POWER COOL. Set ice maker on outside to CUBED....now wat anywhere from 4 to 8 hours and that should do . Happy Ice making again! Mine is a 2020 side by side HUGE.

Long story short. Buy a hair dryer, defrost it, and save up for another fridge. The end.

Thanks for a really great tutorial. I couldn’t even figure out how to remove the ice bucket and was so frustrated. By following your instructions step by step I was able to defrost the ice maker and save the cost of a repair man visit.

I had the same problem and I started defrosting my ice maker with a hair dryer every three weeks. I would throw my ice out and start all over. Today I put in a new ice maker. I’m waiting to see how it does.

Sometimes I don’t do defrost, but use a hair fan to melt the ice and wipe it with paper towel. Try not to keep a refrigerator doors open for a long time and if you do then use power freeze that will prevent accumulation ice in icemaker

I have had this fridge for years now and always struggle with this ice maker, actually gave up on it for over a year and change now and bought ice by bags never knowing there was a defrost option wow thank you

My wife's hair dryer did the 'Forced Defrost' part of the job.

The best way to fix this is to call Samsung and not DIY it. There is an inherent problem with the unit and generally Samsung will fix it free of charge. Mine is over 5 years old and was fixed by them with an updated ice maker. Go to their website and contact customer support.

Electronically defrosting the icemaker took over 24 hours, so all I do now is to pull out the ice bucket and use a hairdryer at medium temperature to melt the ice. The sensor will not work once it is clogged with ice. My icemaker lasts about 4 weeks and then I have to go through the same procedure again. Now getting my method streamlined down to 30 mins for the fix. Samsung is apparently providing its customers with a free fix due to a world wide law suit, regardless of the fridge's age. Retain your receipt of purchase and give Samsung a call...insist, insist, insist!

Instead of the defrost cycle, just use a blow dryer to melt the ice buildup.

We broke our bucket pulling it out 🫣. It happens to often 🤦🏻‍♀️

We've had our Samsung fridge for about 6 years. After about 18 months to 2 years, the ice maker stopped dropping ice. We completely defrosted it. Once every thing was good and dry we turned it back on and once again it made ice. I had to this every 6 months up to about a year go when the ice maker quit working altogether. It was still letting us get water. Then today it stopped doing even that. This problem has been going on now for years. By now they should have come up with a fix. A number of years ago now they lost a class action law suit over this issue. Looks like they still haven't come up with a fix.

I had the same problem. The ice maker would work for a time then totally freeze up. I found a small hole in the ice tray (manufactured defect). I used some epoxy to fill the hole and that fixed the problem.
