This is so relatable.. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a six months, and I kept ignoring the red flags of my past eating disorder because I only heard such great things about intermittent fasting. I definitely think once I establish a healthier relationship with food, I will maybe try it again.
This is a ridiculous claim. Intermittent fasting would rarely lead to eating disorders unless you already had one to begin with. The reason the woman in the video stopped was because she had issues with eating disorders and it brought up negative feelings that hunger was good. If intermittent fasting led to eating disorders on a massive scale, then human civilization simply would not exist because that's how humans ate for most of history, periods of fasting and periods of feasting.
What amazing content to post!! Even if you didn’t “finish” the diet and go through with it for however long you wanted, the message I got was listen to professionals and yourself. This was a beautiful journey where you really took control and stopped yourself from continuing something that could’ve been unhealthy and pushed you back into your eating disorder. Hope this video helps a lot of folks out there that may be in a similar situation!!
I couldn’t believe how young she is and yet so self aware. And also couldn’t believe what wise mentors she had. Even the super thin nutritionist said just the right thing.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO !!!! as someone who has struggled with 2 ED’s, starting this vulnerable discussion on goodfull’s platform means the world. i love this channel bc of the healthy content, but sometimes it’s hard to distinguish from healthy behaviors and my EDs flaring up again, so i’m so grateful for this.
Intermittent fasting has worked for my lifestyle. I feel too good to stop. I’m not really needing to lose more weight, so I am a bit more flexible. I went from strictly fasting for 36 hours to about 18 hours. It feels very natural and instinctive at this point. (I went on a vacation and ate more frequently. My mind & body felt like hell.). But, IF doesn’t suit everybody and that is okay.👌🏾👍🏾
Intermittent fasting is not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Its really important that when you do it you do it for the right reasons and it's not for everyone. Don't feel bad if you can't stick with it.
I struggled with Binge Eating. I practice intermittent fasting, and it has helped me a lot. But we are all different. There’s no one solution for all. Most people in recovery do intuitive eating while intuitive eating triggers me more. Recovery takes time, and finding the methods that worked for you take time. I also believe in God, and I believed that He helped me throughout my progress
I honestly don’t think diets should exist at all, learning intuitive eating is the best way to start enjoying the foods you eat at reasonable sizes. That worked for me
My family and i don’t eat dinner, we do strong breakfast at 10am and lunch at 4pm (like what she ate in the vid is nothing comparing the amount that we eat😅) sometimes a snack or some sweets if we feel like it but we didn’t know about IF and if it was a thing, so basically we’ve been doing it our whole life without realising. 2 months ago I read about IF and I wanted to do it so I just cut the snacks at night, was nothing for me and actually I didn’t feel any change because I’m used to. But, what I read is that if you want to try IF it’s good to start with 12hrs fasting and not right on 16hrs. And if still don’t feel mentally and emotionally good it’s okay, you don’t need to do it there are many other ways to be healthy. 😊
During this pandemic we have had to stop eating lunch. We instead do a strong breakfast at around 11am and a strong dinner at around 6pm. The only issue is that we have 2 little ones that will probably have their growth stunt as a result, but we have no choice. Also, I have hypoglycemia and I am dizzy a lot, so I spend the morning laying down and work in the farm right after breakfast and lay down again until dinner. We have had very hot weather and the crops aren't really growing this year as they should. The climate has made an already hard situation worse. 😞 Here is to hoping things will change soon.
Where do you live, Yaria? I’m sorry the pandemic has effected your family so much. I’m wondering if we know a general location if anyone might be able to recommend any resources to help you out.
Shoutout to Mei for being so open and honest about such a tough issue! It sucks that she has to address this but she is giving a voice to those who struggle with similar things. She is so strong and this video is awesome!
Its great that you followed your body. Some misinformation - this is not a diet, its a way of eating. You are giving your body a break from digesting food. That provides an enormous amount of overall benefits for your body. You can do any diet with IF. You can do it anytime, Do your research. I eat from 7am to 2pm because that works for ME. Also I change it to fit my lifestyle. I'm going to dinner, i adjust. I don't want to do IF today? I don't. It's about you. For the amount of benefits it can have, I'll adjust my life to fit IF.
Thanks for the video - always important to show times where a diet doesn’t work for someone and why. More important to me, this is a very vulnerable video and you made the decision to do what is best for you! :)
SHOUT-OUT to you for stopping the experiment when it felt wrong!! Way 2 go! I have a unique perspective in that I practice IF by default because of the medical issues resulting from 20 years of a life-threatening ED. I was so sick that I had a feeding tube for a yr. Although I am fully recovered (Thank God!), my digestive system suffered long-term consequences so I can't eat after 4 pm and I can't eat before my morn workout so I have to IF. I'm just thankful to be healthy and happy so it works for me :)
Fasting helped me a lot. I lost 50 pounds. But once you fall out of it.. it is DIFFICULT to get back to it. And your body wants food all the time. But once you get back to fasting, you find other joys in life that are not related to eating,
jellybean I guess more so my mind wants food all the time. Even after eating I want specifically cookies and pizza. And I let myself have it. But I want more and more and more of pizza and cookies. Even if I’ve just had a protein and an array of veggies and fruit and smoothies. I always just want pizza.
@@xitsjaycey if you are able to tell body needs vs. restless mind. Not many people can do so. Often what people take for hunger is boredom, or stress, or tiredness, or even thirst. Think "stress eating" - you are dying to throw something in your mouth but not because your smart body absolutely needs cookie dough ice cream straight from the box at 3 am.
Ekaterina Senina thats a fair point. in terms of the stress eating its also likely that people seek out food for comfort which is totally healthy for your mentality towards food since its not just fuel
IF is NOT a diet. IF is only WHEN you eat, not WHAT you eat. Diet, by it's very definition, is the foods you eat! But our culture has taken over the word to mean something entirely different - restricting food with a weight loss goal in mind. That said, it isn't for everyone. Anything you can't stick with, anything that causes you stress or triggers unhealthy behaviors, isn't going to work or be good for you. How many people have disordered eating habits who aren't diagnosed and use anything they can find to fit their disordered eating habits? She did the right thing stopping when she did. She had a support team guiding her and giving her sound advice. I wish more people had access to those same support systems
Just a few words from someone who does intermittent fasting: it helps me particularly bc I felt like I was overeating during breakfast and lunch, which made me sluggish throughout the day, but also want food all of the time. Also, if you’re like Mei who doesn’t seem to cook whole meals regularly, you don’t exercise regularly, and/or you crave/indulge in junk foods and desserts a lot, this may not be for you, esp cold turkey. This helps to exercise mental control, discipline, and awareness about what you put into your body, if you NEED a bit more restriction and routine. It isn’t the cure-all and lose weight fast trick.
C3llow she said in the video that she doesn’t really cook too much and she ordered out half of her food... Also, the rest of that statement wasn’t directed at her, but was encompassing anybody else that could fit into the category of who intermittent fasting isn’t optimal for. My comment is to be helpful to people who are unsure if this is right for them or not, so why do you seem bothered?
The storyline was not at all what I expected but I felt so warm and happy when she was able to realize that what is marketed as healthy is not healthy for us all. Humans are way too different for a one size fits all health.
This sounds a little bit relatable. When I have days when I lack apetite or don't have time to eat or when I did try IF for a couple of weeks (!) it always ended the same way - after no apetite days there were "over-apetite days" and after 16 hours of not eating my lunch was just ENORMOUS and it was followed by a couple of other HUGE meals...
same for me, since i had a limited amount of time to eat, i ate way more than i should've and felt guilty. IF just doesn't work for everyone and it isn't talked about enough.
@@ohwell7101 exactly! Not enough people have the confidence to say - this didn't work for me... but it should be fine. Yes, the research says IF is good, but the research also says that running is good and yet most people know that not everyone will ever run 10 km - not only because of their stamina but also because of how they feel when they run, including their knees, feet or simple joy or lack of it...
That’s what i was thinking. She can’t be eating more than 800-1000 calories a day if that. that’s extremely low. People who diet pretty heavily usually eat 1200 calories a day. It’s alarming for sure.. 😔
If she is in ED recovery, the truth is it can be dangerous to actually increase to a “normal” amount of calories all at once. What may seem like a very small amount of calories could be a huge goal she hit to eat THAT much in a day. If she is working with a therapist, it’s likely they are working together to gradually increase her calories both for mental health and physical as well.
Same problem I would have, in that time frame I would never get enough of the things I need. I just cant eat lots of food at one time but need many small portions of different things over the cours of the day to get my fill in calories as well as the greens and other stuff I need.
I think there were few problems with IF. Firstly the food prep has to be proper. You need the energy and nutrients to keep you carrying throughout the day. From what I saw the food were mostly green leaf vegetable based and very few wheat/cereal/grain, basically lack of energy rich ingredients. You need to make barley, Beans, groat, quinoa these are filling and stay long in body energy wise. Also you need way more meals and snacks for the eating period, you need to eat your fill basically. IF is not easy either for social reasons you might need to bend the periods here and there but shouldn't do it too often. Maybe don't do breakfast if you plan to go out for evening etc. It is about creating a habit. I wish you had a plan rather than just go for a challenge as it seemed both redundant in itself and dangerous.
Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty, not only for viewers but for yourself and your recovery! Such a sign of strength and progress that you were able to recognize those thoughts creeping in and you addressed it right away. And I loved what you said about how “just because something is marketed as healthy, doesn’t mean it’s healthy for me personally” that is really going to stick with me! ♥️
Good for you for listening to you and what’s right for you! That’s the most important thing anyone can take away from this video! No matter what, you can find your way through! Continued good health to you! ❤️
My work schedule is crazy busy and its so hard to fit a meal at work. So eating inbetween work and sleep is something that I find very easy and at least for now the fasting is really working for my lifestyle. I am a doctor in residency, btw. But I totally get how this is not for everyone, if its not healthy for you and it don’t feel right don’t do it.
Can we talk about her therapist being the break out star of the episode.I mean what great observation and what amazing advice for someone who is struggling and is in a current state of recovery and trying to improve thier relationship with food .and thank you for sharing your vulnerable personal moment with us, thats is so incredibly brave of you (thank you).
Thank you for sharing this! I def have some similar food struggles and it’s comforting seeing a video highlighting how some diets aren’t for everyone. Also your teeth are perfect!!!! Gorg 😍
I disagree with the therapist. Intermittent fasting isn't really a diet. A diet is about what kind of foods you eat, not how and when you eat it. For most of human history, intermittent fasting is actually just the normal way of eating. We were evolved to have moments where food is available, and periods where we have to hunt for our food. It's the modern colonialist mentality to shun native eating habits and being slaves to food corporations that want to constantly keep us in a state of hunger and eating that is relatively new. Some like to think of it as structured, and at the beginning it is as your body adapts. But once you do, it's actually the most freeing thing I've ever done. It's one less meal I have to worry about. I feel zero guilt about eating a lot in the meals I do eat. I hardly ever get hunger pangs anymore. My energy levels are more stable. And the beautiful thing? YOU DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW IT EVERY DAY. If you "cheat" once or twice a week cuz you're out with friends, that's fine, because again, our bodies are designed to have periods of feasting. It's the eating every part of your waking hours and not giving your body time to burn up its excess glucose stores, and keeping you on an insulin roller coaster that makes you more hungry, and not letting your digestive system time to rest that is bad for you.
it's a diet, having any kind of restriction even the number of the meal is dieting. anyway it doesn;'t change the fact that it was not meant to be universal
@@VarongTangkitphithakphon I mean you can view it that way even though you'd be wrong because the definition of a diet says nothing about time restriction. I mean if you eat the same amount of calories, the same type of foods, or heck even more calories, but you just eat it in a smaller window, I don't know how you could possibly see it as a diet. Even in those studies where people eat the same calories, with only time restrictions, people have shown several positive outcomes. This way of eating is obviously not universal, rarely anything in life is, but for the VAST general population and human history, it's just the normal way of eating. We've all just been brainwashed and habituated to modern eating patterns. Diabetics who adopt this program AND change their diet have actually shown to stop their need of medications. People with EDs have to put a priority to their mental health, but that doesn't change the fact that IF would be healthier for them if they could overcome negative emotions from their past. I imagine if you didn't limit your calories (the diet part), you could probably still do IF while pregnant, but if you don't think you could safely do that in short eating windows, than screw it, and just eat, it's only 9 months of your life and you're eating for two.
I knew I had problematic thoughts when it came to food when one day for lunch I was eating a bowl of leafy greens and veggies, got full, and felt guilty because for so long I had associated the feeling of being full with being fat. Other times I had eaten pretty much junk, but this time it was all healthy and I STILL felt that way.
I would be starving by 11 AM. When I'm hungry (which is the case every morning), I get really tired, cranky, and have a hard time focusing. Eating at 8 PM or even 7 PM would be way too late for me and probably trigger my GERD.
I think a lot of people should see it! It is so important to always focus on how some behavior makes one feel... Everyone is different and can have different needs and face different obstacles. Taking the stairs is considered to be healthy but someone with knee trouble might actually not find it particularly healthy... right? Same thing with eating - dairy is generally healthy but for people who are lactose intolerant it might not be. IF can also be worth taking a look at but there are for sure people for whom it may be destructive. I love the video! All the best for Mei, take care ;)
I think it’s important to know that 16/8 (16 hr fast, 8 hr eating) doesn’t work for everyone! It really depends on your lifestyle and your natural eating schedule. I kind of do IF out of habit but mine is more like 14/10 because of how my work and school schedule was ! And I also don’t do it everyday. Some days I want a snack at 2 am and I let myself have it. I have a friend who does 16/8 IF but she does 3 days on 2 days off. Find what works for you and for a lot of people that isn’t IF
It‘s only attainable if your lifestyle allows it to be. It works great for me now that uni is over and I don‘t have to get up at 5 am. Would have been hell if I still had classes from 8 am to 6 pm. Always consider the current structure of your life before changing your eating habits!!
I simplified my fasting by just eating 2 meals a day. That way I automatically have either 2 12 hour fasts or 1 longer than 12 hour fast. For me, this method took away a lot of stress from fasting and so far (1 week) its all good.
I was just talking to my friend the other day who is intermittent fasting. I told him how I have tried it(on keto) multiple times, I always lose weight, but its not for me. I also told him about my past with controlled eating and binge eating. I never put two and two together until now. I think intermittent can be a great thing for certain people, but its not for everyone.
I’ve tried every dieting method under the sun, including IF. And for me unfortunately this was a methode with the least amount of reward. I say unfortunately, cause for me this method wasn’t hard at all.
Really irresponsible of buzzfeed to proceed with a video like this and not suggest a different person if they really wanted to make a video on intermittent fasting.
The video producers are the ones that pitch the video ideas, she was the one who wanted to do it and also she wanted to stop and still make a video about it, they are not forcing her to do anything of this 😒
I use an app called fastic and set it at a 13 hour fasting window. I have days that I go for longer and some days I finish at about 13 hours. I don't feel bad about it because I know my decisions are based on what works for me and I adjust it to my schedule and lifestyle. Perhaps this might be an option for some people. The app btw I like because you can also track your water intake (big plus for someone like me) and you can write comments after you finish a fast so I can look back and see how I was doing then.
I've been doing 16-20 hours most days depending on how I feel. I do whole food plant based low fat when eating. do drink tea which is technically not allowedish! Im doing it to loose weight but I find it makes me less obsessed about food. Im really not that hungry most of the time. I'm a nurse working two days, two nights and four off. My days are ok but I'm wondering what your dietician suggests for a night shift for an eating window. I'm not too strict with my eating window because I may not be able to eat in the window and especially on nights.
There really is nothing wrong with intermittent fasting. It's not a 'diet' so much as a time restriction for when you eat and drink. That's all it is. There are a lot of benefits to it but studies have shown that women tend to benefit less and find it harder than men. After you have done it for a few days it gets easier. You need to be eating enough to feel full and happy but if it triggered something negative it wasn't a good fit for her. It's great that she recognised that and stopped it before it did any harm.
So, one common misconception is that as long as it’s 0 cal it doesn’t break the fast- WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! THIS IS SO WRONG! Doesn’t matter how many calories, if it triggers the production of insulin then it breaks the fast.
I saw so many girls struggle with eating disorders at school that I promised myself I'd never do a fad diet or anything like that, so that I could keep my relationship with food healthy.
We are all equal, but we are not the same. You have to to find out whats right for your body and your Lifestyle. I do intermittend fasting because I feel tired and unfit after eating breakfast. I have to admit I do it "wrong" and drink a latte in the morning. Why? Because it makes me happy and feels right. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. Everybody try to keep an open mind while finding out what's good for you. Skip whats wrong. You are the boss. Just try to eat selfmade food when you're hungry (whenever that is) and you can inch closer to eating healtyly a bit at a time. Don't believe every "10 things your doing wrong" video (yes, I'm looking at You Goodful channel 😉)
Bro all of us are doing fasting unintentionally we kind off wake up late so all of us ate 12 and 6 or 7 at night soooo yep but still eating a lot of carbs lol
I think this would've been better if someone how had any weight to lose did this challenge, because I know the weight loss is the main reason people do it. Mei is wonderful but factually, she is a size 2. Some people may experience cobenefits from the weight loss if they have weight to lose.
Eating between 12 and 8pm, isnt that what I ve been doing for past two years? To be honest I dont feel like I get any benefit (no drawbacks either) from my current life style.
My family on one special month. 5am: eat rice, dates and drink water or tea or juice. 6am to 7pm : Doesn't eat or drink at all. 7pm: Eat rice, dates and drink anything you want but don't eat or drink to much Why rice? Because I'm an asian Muslim 😅. It can be anything else as long as healthy. You can eat small bite of sugary food if you want to. Any race and religion can try it if you want to. But on regular days. Breakfast at 7am: just a slice of bread and hot chocolate Lunch at 12pm: eat heavy food. Yes I need rice. Dinner: just 4 piece of small size meat. One apple. 4 spoons of rice.
This is me when I'm doing my homework like my stomach says food but my mind says "work work work" but then at some point the hunger gets unbearable so I get the quickest snack I can thus why I don't like homework- but EHH maybe I should grab food before doing homework next time lmfaooo
I used to have an eating disorder when I was in high school cuz people used to call me fatso I stopped eating and I would only eat like once a day and I would get sick and it was horrible now my boss is this fine it's not like that no more I got three kids and a husband now
It's beautiful to show vulnerability, and to try new things. But i really don't support these types of "challenges". Intermittent fasting is not a "diet", and "diet-culture" has morfed the topic of food consumpsion into a battle-field. People have veryyyy different experiences with food and i realy can't stand when people put "rules" in place like this. You can't take everything someone else is doing at face value and then feel bad when it doesn't work for you. You can't mimic someone else's food habits and expect it go well for you when you are a different person. What can be a "general rule" is that everyone should learn how to listen to themselves. To listen to the experiences that lead you to where you are and to try to understand them. Try working with your taste buds as they are a product of familliarity, habit and positive reinforcement throughout years. You can't do a "challenge" for a WEEK after YEARS of eating in certain ways and expect yourself to change instantly. It doesn't work like that. It never has. Understanding your perception of food takes time. Intermittent fasting should be used with healing intentions, and that sometimes may mean a "strict hour schedule" but not always. You need to listen to your experience, take your time and truly learn and understand yourself. Switching to intermittent fasting takes time, an actual motive, understanding, patience, forgiveness and connection to your intuition and self. You need constant work for at least some time in order to truly grasp what you are learning. And like anything else, the journey to healing is exactly that. A journey. Not a pit-stop. Not a one time deal. It takes time and effort. And if you want it, you can truly do it. Learn as much as you possibly can and then some about a topic before you start trying things out. And never stop learning. Also, trying and failing is part of the process. You are not worth less for failing, in fact you truly get to know your worth through your failures. Where ever you are, whatever you do, you've got this. Sending love ❤
Do you mean it's not a diet as in it should be intuitive and not rule based or some other way? And what would you say to people who don't work well with the normal schedules of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, much less IF?
@@ttcgr Exactly what i said. People want "diets" because we live in a society which praises instant gratification and continue to influence people into thinking if results arent immediate, it is a failiure. Diets are used as a marketing propaganda in order to make more profit in the food industry. There is a whole system dedicated to make people eat certain things even if it is not in anyones best interest besides the companies in terms of profit. People need to reclaim their experience. To reclaim the understaning of one's own needs. People need to become more aware about what they put into their bodies, how it affects others, how it affects them. With this and with constant effort we can begin to get to know ourselves and our needs therefore we will become more capable at meeting those needs. Food is a major part of our lives therefore a part of our identity, perception and personality. People need to understand that we can't always ask for answers "outside" and wait on other people to do the work that needs to be done by us for us. No one can know you better than you know you. That's why if something doesn't work for you instead of trying to find someone who can give you a solution, try asking yourself. But don't ask and then shut yourself down. Try to listen and feel. You would be surprised at how much and what you have to say to yourself when you are with yourself in absolute presence. ❤ P.S. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS question everything and do research yourself. Don't believe anything you hear and don't trust blindly. Simply be open to recieve information and knowlege without attaching to the information itself. That way you will open up a vide spectar of information regarding different topics. That way you will be in a position where you can make an informed decision instead of someone forcing you to make choises that only benefit them. ❤

I mostly do not get hungry over the day but when I eat, I eat high caloric, often way more than if I eat 5 times a day but way less variety in vegetables, unbalanced with no chance to get everything I need, even if I plan hours on end.
Eating regularly makes me more easely hungry, but with low caloric fiber and micronutriendense meals I feel just way better than with eating all at one's an always lacking something

Same xD My whole family does it, hahaha. We eat dinner at 5PM and that’s the last meal of the day
THANK YOU for starting a responsible conversation about IF! Mental health IS a huge part of being healthy!
This is so relatable.. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a six months, and I kept ignoring the red flags of my past eating disorder because I only heard such great things about intermittent fasting. I definitely think once I establish a healthier relationship with food, I will maybe try it again.
No one talks about the toxic side of intermittent fasting. It led to serious eating disorders😓
Good for you for stopping as soon as you noticed that thought
She actually did a good job and even when she stopped it wasn’t because she half apped it, it was because she had an eating disorder.
I felt that ED bit-that’s also why I’ve been so hesitant to try any kind of fasting routine / diet
Yes if you easily get triggered by diets or allready had an eating disorder than don't try it.
Thank you SO much for sharing and using your platform to start discussions about diets and ED!! Great video - hope to see more like this one :’)
Fasting helped me a lot. I lost 50 pounds. But once you fall out of it.. it is DIFFICULT to get back to it. And your body wants food all the time. But once you get back to fasting, you find other joys in life that are not related to eating,
if your body wants food all the time, then you were restricting yourself. your body is smarter than you think.
jellybean I guess more so my mind wants food all the time.
When does it’s say she doesn’t cook whole meals or that she doesn’t exercise?
C3llow she said in the video that she doesn’t really cook too much and she ordered out half of her food... Also, the rest of that statement wasn’t directed at her, but was encompassing anybody else that could fit into the category of who intermittent fasting isn’t optimal for. My comment is to be helpful to people who are unsure if this is right for them or not, so why do you seem bothered?
The storyline was not at all what I expected but I felt so warm and happy when she was able to realize that what is marketed as healthy is not healthy for us all. Humans are way too different for a one size fits all health.
I stopped IF, as for me it was more of Intermittent Over Eating.
Healthy is doing what is best for your body!
But it seems you were not eating enough:(
That’s what i was thinking.
Not to say that she was eating enough, but she was probably having snacks throughout the day.
Same problem I would have, in that time frame I would never get enough of the things I need. I just cant eat lots of food at one time but need many small portions of different things over the cours of the day to get my fill in calories as well as the greens and other stuff I need.
Thank you for being so vulnerable! And for setting a good example by doing what is best for your physical and mental health 💕💕💕
Gorg 😍
why was there no trigger/content warning on this video? it upset me that this video didn’t warn people about talk of eating disorders
It's the eating every part of your waking hours and not giving your body time to burn up its excess glucose stores, and keeping you on an insulin roller coaster that makes you more hungry, and not letting your digestive system time to rest that is bad for you.
yeah, ive been doing IF for about 3 months, i only eat 3 meals for 2 days. at start it is hard to adapt, but after 2 weeks it feels normal.
it's a diet, having any kind of restriction even the number of the meal is dieting. anyway it doesn;'t change the fact that it was not meant to be universal
@@GnomesRox dear, I'd never be wrong
I knew I had problematic thoughts when it came to food when one day for lunch I was eating a bowl of leafy greens and veggies, got full, and felt guilty because for so long I had associated the feeling of being full with being fat. Other times I had eaten pretty much junk, but this time it was all healthy and I STILL felt that way.
I would be starving by 11 AM. When I'm hungry (which is the case every morning), I get really tired, cranky, and have a hard time focusing. Eating at 8 PM or even 7 PM would be way too late for me and probably trigger my GERD.
Oh boy, this is nothing compared to 20:04 believe me.
You can always just do 6pm - 10am
Been doing IF for several years now and it was really only difficult at the start, eventually it became a lifestyle.
Proud of you xx
I think it’s important to know that 16/8 (16 hr fast, 8 hr eating) doesn’t work for everyone! It really depends on your lifestyle and your natural eating schedule. I kind of do IF out of habit but mine is more like 14/10 because of how my work and school schedule was ! And I also don’t do it everyday. Some days I want a snack at 2 am and I let myself have it. I have a friend who does 16/8 IF but she does 3 days on 2 days off. Find what works for you and for a lot of people that isn’t IF
so proud of mei getting so real and listening to her body when she wasn’t feeling well! honestly such an important video!
Intermittent fasting saved my relationship with food and stopped my obsession with food.
It‘s only attainable if your lifestyle allows it to be. It works great for me now that uni is over and I don‘t have to get up at 5 am. Would have been hell if I still had classes from 8 am to 6 pm. Always consider the current structure of your life before changing your eating habits!!
anyone else just naturally do this because they don’t wake up till noon?
I simplified my fasting by just eating 2 meals a day. That way I automatically have either 2 12 hour fasts or 1 longer than 12 hour fast. For me, this method took away a lot of stress from fasting and so far (1 week) its all good.
It's funny how people struggle with 16/8 fast and I have no problem at all with 20/4
this feels like my eating routine when being depressed
Her hair is so nice
The video producers are the ones that pitch the video ideas, she was the one who wanted to do it and also she wanted to stop and still make a video about it, they are not forcing her to do anything of this 😒
Not worth it!!! love yourself! these bodies are only temporary but your essence is forever! ♥
@JB JG I must have missed that one, I only remember the pickle joke lol
Very brave to show this much vulnerability, keep it up Mei.
Omg I use Fastic too!!
It's great that she recognised that and stopped it before it did any harm.
i love mei! my fave new buzzfeed crew
I feel like IF works for some people and not for others, you just gotta try it and see how you feel 😄
this is the fastest way to fall back into your ed
So, one common misconception is that as long as it’s 0 cal it doesn’t break the fast- WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! THIS IS SO WRONG!
Doesn’t matter how many calories, if it triggers the production of insulin then it breaks the fast.
Fasting was not for me either!! You don’t need to do IF to be healthy, there are sooo many other ways!
I love your videos!
This helped me see my trying the fast wasn’t a failure
Lol just realised I do this unintentionally
16/8 IF works well for me. 1 meal a day made me develop unhealthy binge eating habits.
I think this would've been better if someone how had any weight to lose did this challenge, because I know the weight loss is the main reason people do it. Mei is wonderful but factually, she is a size 2. Some people may experience cobenefits from the weight loss if they have weight to lose.
She’s so pretty 😭 can’t relate 😪
Eating between 12 and 8pm, isnt that what I ve been doing for past two years? To be honest I dont feel like I get any benefit (no drawbacks either) from my current life style.
My family on one special month.
5am: eat rice, dates and drink water or tea or juice.
6am to 7pm : Doesn't eat or drink at all.
7pm: Eat rice, dates and drink anything you want but don't eat or drink to much
Why rice? Because I'm an asian Muslim 😅. It can be anything else as long as healthy. You can eat small bite of sugary food if you want to. Any race and religion can try it if you want to.
But on regular days.
Breakfast at 7am: just a slice of bread and hot chocolate
Lunch at 12pm: eat heavy food. Yes I need rice.
Dinner: just 4 piece of small size meat. One apple. 4 spoons of rice.
Some people can naturally pull it off without eating breakfast. I'm not one of them
This is me when I'm doing my homework like my stomach says food but my mind says "work work work" but then at some point the hunger gets unbearable so I get the quickest snack I can thus why I don't like homework- but EHH maybe I should grab food before doing homework next time lmfaooo
I mean, it’s basically just skip breakfast. It’s not for everybody though
I'm so happy you did the right thing. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you. 🤗
I used to have an eating disorder when I was in high school cuz people used to call me fatso I stopped eating and I would only eat like once a day and I would get sick and it was horrible now my boss is this fine it's not like that no more I got three kids and a husband now
You can always drink water!!!
The genius knows where to draw the line.
Why would you do this if you’re in recovery for an eating disorder?! Like, just why? I don’t get it
The only IF i like is intermittent FEASTING 🤤🤤🤤

I’m always so hungry idk how I could do this
It's beautiful to show vulnerability, and to try new things.
I love your "Homo Sweet Homo" mug 😊
Did 16:8 for 2 months and then 18:6 for 1 months and only lost 4 pounds 😒
Im doing One meal a Day for like 1year Now lol
If you exercise an enormous amount you can eat all day. Intermittent fasting is not a diet it is an eating schedule and you already have an eating schedule. Is your eating schedule making you fAt? If it is eat in a smaller time window. It is simple!
I've had *intermittent* success with this eating approach myself!
But just goes to show there's no one size fits all solution to diet and nutrition, you have to find what works for you.

If her coworkers/supervisors greenlit this idea, knowing she has a history of disordered eating, that’s really messed up and negligent tbh.
I just stopped IT today because I think it's bad for feminine health/ overall energy
I snack nonstop, so this would not work for me at all. 😅
So not a good idea well I hope the best for you I hope you get to eat what you want and something you're looking for cool video
I like your tattoos
She is undereating. I would say come off vegan diet and do intermittent fasting but even then I can see clearly she is not eating enough food for her dinner.
I dont think she had the proper support! This "counceller" gave you the 'give it up' attitude. I agreeit not for every'body' but the way your therapist already hated diets gave you no chance for succes.
this video needs a trigger warning
This was so not relateable.
i havent had the best relationship with food either and breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. i dont think i will ever be able to intermittent fast :(
If it makes you feel any better, I go to a dietitian who’s worked with Olympic athletes and he’d never prescribe IF to the majority of clients.
I also do love breakfast!! A warm bowl of oatmeal for mee:)))) Also, you could do it from 7am-3pm (or 8am-4 pm, 9am-5pm etc...) and that is still considered IF since you love breakfast but pls appreciate yourself if you do quit ♥
This video does not actually contain enough information about IMF to be of any use to anyone. Please do not use this as motivation to do IMF or not do it. READ as much as you can get your hands on by actual Doctors. The therapist was wrong saying it was a diet. The nutritionist neglected to explain why it is good for you. Saying it is healthy is like saying walking is healthy. Sure it is but WHY?
its about how your body processes food and what happens when you have No food in your system to process. IMF can actually help cure things like Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity and much more. Do your research. I commend this girl for trying it and putting herself out there. But she was looking for a reason to stop be cause she was uncomfortable. Being a healthy person is comfortable. becoming a healthy person is uncomfortable.
