It's not a diet. It's a pattern of when, not what. I eat from any food group, but only in a 4-8 hour window. Even in menopause, I can finally relax. Maintenance has been easy this way. But six weeks is barely getting started. Talk to folks who've been doing it a year or more.
I.F. should be combined with higher protein and exercise to ensure muscle does not get lost alongside fat. It also will improve the metabolic benefits too. It is also worth noting the benefits to circadian rhythm and microbiome alongside the benefits listed in this video
To see a better result with Sam, I think they should have introduced her to 18/6 (2pm to 8pm eating window) and whilst there was guidance to eat more healthily from the experts the only way to truly learn what the experiment was about was to consume what they would normally eat. Hear me out..In doing this, they would find those normally eaten foods do not fulfill them as much and they would want to naturally reach for more denser nutritionally based foods in their eating window to give them the energy until their window opens again the next day but to also include their favourite foods in this window. Why deprive them of their normal foods as this becomes ‘diet mentality then’ I’m an intermittent faster and 20/4 usually however will change it up a bit as I will never deprive myself of being social or any food it fits into my window. I wish I could turn back the last 20 years of listening to the diet industry, being taught the food pyramid etc. IF is free, it’s simple and not complicated.
1/ She's a woman who might well be pre-menopausal so 18/6 might not have been right for her. 2/ She improved in a matter of weeks... 16:8 is a way of eating one can adopt for life, so further benefits available if she just keeps up the good work. 3/ With fasting its good to make sure protein and healthy fat are in good supply I find... so opening up a 16 hour fasting window should also mean tweaking the diet a bit to make it sustainable.
And yo save so much time and money doing IF. No spending time obsessing over what you’re going to eat and you eat a lot less food. $$$$ and time saved.
Her introduction to fasting was too quick, it should have been more gradual, to save her from a lot of pain… start with 12/12, than 13/11, 14/10, and so on. It takes time to get adapted, especially if somebody is already stressed at the idea of going without food. And I don’t know how they are managing to lose lean mass. I do 18 to 24 hours of fasting everyday, and have yet to lose any lean mass. Surely they were not eating enough during their eating window or something.
Seems whenever the media try to cover lifestyles like fasting they make it overly serious and complicated. I also do 18-22 hours everyday and that is pretty much it apart from good whole foods and early eating take away or junk. 5:2 is a ridiculously difficult plan compared to 16/8 or 20/4
Karine …. I firstly might add they are trained in their field , are you ? Easy to point out your opinion on how to go about it , anyone can do that, are you trained in this field of health and weight loss ? Or just your opinion .
@@fishmut Not sure what you are getting at in your comment as just below you state that you have only just started fasting for a month. Stay positive and see it as a big journey it does take a lot of time even within IF to learn how to get results and be consistent. I would say the comments are fair. The main issue is that 16/8 is only generally good for maintenance unless you are very careful in what you eat which based on the video they were really struggling with. I can very easily gain weight on 16/8 personally. The video is ok but it does not particularly highlight how good IF can be as a tool and sort of depicts it as very hard with mixed results. I would not watch this and come away with the mindset to start fasting whereas people like Dr Jason Fung do amazing presentations on what the research says and the overall benefits of long term IF
@@fishmutI never said I was trained in the field, but I did experience all of this for myself over a period of a year and a half (and still going strong). I have lost and maintained without any particular effort over 40 pounds so far and improved an incredible amount of other markers in my health and haven’t lost lean mass. So it is indeed my opinion, but an informed one. I’ve been reading tons of medical research on this (directly from medical journals, I have based what I am doing on the best info I got from that, not relayed by media or social media. So do what you want with my opinion :)
yes, if you restrict your food intake, most people will lose weight. the question is, can they keep it off? can they maintain these diets long term? otherwise its just a crash diet like every other diet.
It’s not a diet it’s a pattern of when to eat. Diet would be the food you eat. Many people do IF and aren’t doing it for losing weight. There are many health benefit to IF that have nothing to do with weight loss.
Awesome video , so I’ve been doing this for about a month , not much weight loss at all but I do feel better and more active , I don’t go near the scales and I feel my shorts and shirts are looser , the things I have taken away from this is I’m not putting poison as I used to into my body , the snacks of rubbish so I’m all good to keep going with my omad or window of having some extra foods and not depriving myself , healthy better food choices most often , yes I do buckle sometimes but I make sure I get straight back on track. I feel it absolutely has made my life so much better and I’m quite happy to keep this as my life style , not just for the weight loss but my health. Best of wishes to those wanting a better life for them selves 👍
They needed to eat specific foods for this to work for them. They should have cut complex carbs down to almost zero. And the participants should have been encouraged to eat non processed foods. You can eat much more volume of food for the same calories or less if you only consume non processed foods. When I used to do IF and eat a low carb diet, after about 6 weeks I found myself craving veggies during my fasting window, I never craved chocolate or carbs after my body got used to mr having sugar or processed foods.
I'm sixtyone and started if three months ago my weight is up and down like a yo-yo I do feel leaner and a bit more energy I follow 16/8 and do get hungry sometimes but mainly I'm ok😊
Very true. If your organs are engulfed in fat, then, your body has to get rid of that first before seeing cosmetic fat come down as a way of prioritizing life. The woman who strayed away from diabetes, but lost 3 kilos, is a huge success. If she continues, she will see the cosmetic results that she is looking for.
5:2 isn't a fast at all IMHO. Fasting means no food, not "reduced food". With that said, there is no magic to fasting... it's just a way to reduce the number of calories you eat in a day/week/month.
Partially correct - its true that in most fasting protocols people do in practice end up eating less calories overall. Nevertheless, fasting time itself lowers blood sugar levels which in turn have an effect on our body's storage of fat. i.e. If you have regime eating 2,000 calories in a 14 hour window and then change to eat exactly the same 2,000 calories in a 8 hour eating window - you'll loose weight with the latter over the former. i.e., Its not as simple as calories in calories out (physics) but also involves biology - i.e, hormones like insulin. Added to which an increased fasting window increases cell autophagy, decreases inflammation, improves gut flora diversity, sharpened concentration though elevated BDNF etc.
In order to lose weight easily and burn more fat, they need to cut all processed foods and eat mainly protein and fat. Cutting carbohydrates is the key. They could have increased the sample size by bringing in a few other people.
I think intuitive eating is a better option for people that have that desire to eat when they physically aren't hungry. I can't do IF because I am in ED recovery. Also from a science perspective IMO there wasn't enough controls in this experiment to differentiate if IF was the cause of any of these changes.
So according to this intermittent fasting results in mostly muscle loss!!! Everything I’ve seen so far indicates muscle retention with intermittent fasting???
It will depend mostly on total calories, and also protein intake. I got in the best shape of my life at age 40 using intermittent fasting, to the point I had people asking me if I took steroids (never) because I changed my physique (gained muscle and got much leaner) so much suddenly in a short time. I did 18/6 fasting, but sometimes only ate 1 meal a day, sometimes even did 2 day fasts. I did lift heavy weights for 3 hours a day as well (I upped my volume considerably). Unsure if I would have gained more size if I'd eaten 3 or 4 protein meals a day though spaced out throughout the day.
This is utter cap. No way he lost that much lean mass. These people really don’t understand how hard it is to actually lose lean body mass. Your body tries to target fat only.
It is not a surprise they lost mainly musle, so i do not know are these real doctors or not, they should have said that at the very beginning, so they could actually lose significant amount of fat...

Generally true but diets that restrict carbohydrates and involve fasting tend to result in better long term weight loss.

Yes, it works. Islam can't be wrong if it's a revealed religion.
Why not? Most religions are bunk.
Folks avoid dinner eating after sunset thats solves many problems
A person doesn't lose weight if they have a fatty liver. It takes months to get the liver working properly to lose weight

Fasting is a thing at night our metabolism is weak we should not eat at after 6:00PM evening anything before 6:00PM is all good

I lost 50lbs doing 16:8 doing the same level of exercise.
ED? Erectile disorder?
Eating healthy is great but it helps if you eat low carb and higher protein to preserve muscle.
