Especially FF14 because it has such a great story, but not every FF fan will play it because they don't consider it a real FF game. The best part about the music in 15 was collecting music from all the prior games and playing them as you drove around the map. Also, one of my favorite songs in the entire series is Otherworld from FFX. A bit of metal added to my favorite series of games. While other songs tug at the heartstrings, like Aerith's theme, Otherworld just gets you jacked. Only other one that comes close is One Winged Angel.

Final Fantasy IV was the first I played in the series, and while we look back on it now and realize how silly a lot of the story is, when I was playing it at 12 years old, it was intriguing. I had never played anything like it before then and I fell in love with it instantly. I could talk for hours about how much there is to love about IV - X. At the time XI came out, I was a young adult just starting out on my own, so I couldn't afford a PC to play it on and that's where I lost touch with the series, but up until that point, Final Fantasy had given me so many fantastic memories. I even enjoyed Mystic Quest!

Yeah, it was shockingly deep for its time. I'd argue that 7 was also light-years ahead of its time, with terrorism, climate change, insecurity, and of course, the good old power of friendship. But seriously, the twist where Cloud turns out to be a big fraud and your everyday Joe Bloggs, that hit hard as a fellow nobody, in my early teens.

One more thing I'll add for Final Fantasy 15: Ardyn was probably the most compelling main villain Final Fantasy has had since about 6, or 7. He had a lot of depth as to how and why he went down the dark path he did... and his capacity to really mind-f*** with the heroes on a level that most villains hadn't really done before! The only main drawback being that he wasn't a multi-form boss like Zeromus, ExDeath, or Sephiroth. It's interesting how he starts out actually kind of likable early in the game, and then becomes increasingly creepy as the game progresses!

Final Fantasy X. The game that basically made me buy THREE different consoles.
I finally talked myself into buying a PS2 when it got it's first Final Fantasy game. After years of loving the Final Fantasy games on the SNES and then Playstation.
Of course.. That kept me happy until.. The Remaster of FFX/FFX-2 was released on the PS3. Back to the shop to buy a PS3 and the game again.
Which was all well and good... UNTIL that remaster was released on the PSVita. Hell, maybe it was released before the PS3 version? No idea. But as soon as I realised I could play FFX and FFX-2 on a portable.. "TAKE MY MONEY!!" Registered with the PSN and bought every Final Fantasy game available in the UK for the Vita. It's still sitting in a drawer to this day with all those games + Resident Evil 1/2/3 on the SD card. For those rare occasions that I can be bothered leaving the house.

I loved most FF games, and I’ve played all of the mainline series and most of the spin offs. The ones I did not like and therefore didn’t complete were 8, 13, and 15. My favorites were 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 10-2, and 12. My #1 favorite is 10. I adore the pre-13 games and I’ve played most of them multiple times. Sadly, I’m not confident that the series will ever find the magic again, that made pre-13 games so beloved.

We got very few hints abt the world's gods/esses, but the statues and landmarks peppered throughout got the theorizers connecting the dots. I love the work and ideas they come up with.

    Best parts, (in my opinion)
1: It is possibly one of the worst games due to its sheer age, but it did introduce several ideas and mechanics that stuck around. More than that, while the plot and world feels empty sometimes, you do feel like you're up against enemies far larger and stronger than yourself most of the time, which feels rewarding when you beat it.
2: It was the beginning of having a deeper story in the games, along with introducing staples such as the Chocobo, Cid, and the first Dragoon, though in name only.
3: The job system, while finicky and bad at points, laid the groundwork for other class systems down the line. As well as having the first proper dragoon, one with jump (I think?).
4: The game's ATS laid the groundwork for many games in the future, its focus on story set the precedent for many other games in the future.
5: The class system has been refined well, allowing one to mix and match and find a playstyle they enjoy, though it may not be the most effective. Along with its fun tone and sense of humor, the music and scenes really makes you feel like these are 4 friends who have set out on an adventure.
6: 6's focus on storytelling and wide variety of options is quite unique, the esper system allows you to use the various characters without limiting them too heavily.
7: 7's materia system isn't too difficult to understand, and can allow a player to choose to use a weaker weapon or accessory simply because it allows them more options in battle, which could be far more valuable than simply having a stronger weapon. The story is complex, the villain's motives are strange, but almost understandable in a way, yet they still come across as despicable and evil in spite of that.
8: 8's leveling system is... controversial, yet the junction system isn't too difficult to grasp (I did, though I was an adult when I first played). It rewards the player for not just mindlessly beating things up, being careful with what you do and say, and how you go about things as well.
9: The cast of 9 is wonderful, one of the better ones I feel. I just want to hug Vivi, Quina is lovably weird, Zidane is a lovable perv, when Steiner is the butt of a joke it doesn't feel arbitrary or mean either, which is really good. Many games fall victim to that, but not here.
10: The battle system (whatever it was called) is one of the best turn-based systems Square Enix has implemented, allowing for clever strategy and forcing you to be careful and aware of what and who is next, especially for the tougher fights, but it doesn't feel unfair even at its worst. The spheregrid is kind of... odd, not bad, but not amazing? I liked it, but I also am in the camp of "big numbers go brrrr" so...
    11: Never played.
12: The world feels big, vast, with deep history. You don't often feel like big grand heroes who can take down gods with ease, which while some may like that, others may not. Still, might be for you. The license board is an interesting idea, though I personally feel it could have been executed better, I do understand the idea and can appreciate what they were going for. There's a lot of nuance to the characters, no one in the party feels truly "good" initially, but they all get time to show their true colors. (except for Vaan and Penelope, but this is about positives not negatives)
    I haven't played the 13 trilogy, 14, or 15.

Technically Final Fantasy 2 introduced Dragoons (in the case of Ricard), but they wouldn't have the jump ability they are known for until Final Fantasy 3. Just thought I'd point that out. Maybe everyone thought Kain was the first dragoon due to Final Fantasy 2 not being released in the U.S at the time and 4 was called 2 back then.

FFVII: The world-building makes everything feel connected. FFVIII: Still my favorite cutscenes in the series. FFIX: Some of the most endearing characters in the franchise. FFX: I love the complexity and nuances of the cast. FFXIII: Amazing soundtrack. Right up there with the best. FFXV: May seem minor, but I like how the characters advance in age later in the game.
