And slap it together with that amazing theme and you got a real show of emotions! Final Fantasy XV made me ready eyed at the end of the game when it was revealed to only be half of a bigger picture. And I cried at the opening of Final Fantasy VIIR when the logo showed up. Love this whole series
Don't discount the affect of nostalgia too. Just seeing those logos naturally reminds any long-time player of a certain time in their life, a certain feeling related to that time, a memory of childhood, innocence, unbelievable potential, etc. Imagery is a very powerful thing even in an unconscious sense, completely independent of the surface affects we're immediately aware of.
Amano's art is really beautiful and central to Final Fantasy's branding, when he's unable to work on them anymore its gonna be really sad but also interesting to see how the logos change. Hopefully there is someone else who is equally talented who can carry the torch and do him justice.

I still can't get over how bold it was with the reveal of the true logo for Final Fantasy 15. The idea that the team kept that true logo a secret for more than a decade just blows my mind.
It shows in the ending of 15. Luna Freya is such a sidelined character that her being the games logo feels off. I think it’s because it was never meant to be Lunafreya, it was meant to be Stella.
they definitely didn't have that final logo with noctis for 10 years, they probably only came up with it in the last 3. the story of the game went through several major changes, and the original logo represented a character that was no longer in the game, so they had to tweak it to make it make sense with the actual story of the game
@eriknorman1690 it was initially meant to be etro, the goddess of death in the fabula nova crystallis universe that ffxv was originally in. but since they removed ffxv from the fnc, it didn't make sense anymore so they changed it to be the "oracle" or whatever and added noctis
ffxv was my first ff. got me into the series so it has a very special place in my heart despite all of its flaws. knowing the implications of it, the logo change was one of the most beautiful scenes i’ve ever witnessed.
X and XII are the best for me. Yuna with the water is beautiful and that scene in the game is super memorable. And XII is just badass. That pose with him stepping on the logo is too cool.
Things were different back then, and a lot of people would be put off buying something from "some overseas country." The mainstream couldn't tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese, much less want to indulge in a completely foreign culture. They needed to westernize it as much as possible because back then you didn't have much besides word of mouth and the cover art. Which is unfortunate really, sacrificing something beautiful and artistic just to improve marketing and make sure the game sold in the first place. The logos look so unique and eye catching, and we missed out
@@TheRibbonRed On the contrary, there's _significantly less_ people like that in current times, especially when overly Japanese games like DQXI and Persona 5 have managed to find global mainstream success (not that DQVII and DQVIII and Persona 3 and 4 didn't get a decent amount of attention over here but are hardly what I'd call successful in the mainstream). Heck, they even stopped making Kirby angry for the western box arts and Kirby is the trope namer for that trope, "American Kirby Is Hardcore".
@@mattwo7 say that to Sony, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. They've burned their long-time Japanese partners by fiddling with their products & changing the content as they see fit.
@@TheRibbonRed Also much as is the case with gamers, anime fans tend to get stigmatized in generalization because of all the bigots who enjoy anime. I think it's important to keep in mind that people can enjoy another nation's culture while being _absolutely completely racist_ towards the people of said nation. Plenty of Japanese people are like this with China and plenty of Koreans (from _both_ Koreas) are like this with Japan. (South Korea imported Super Sentai but because of the hatred towards Japan, called it Power Rangers, I kid you not) The people in the west who are racist through willful ignorance never went away but they started to enjoy Japanese media.
FFXIV has Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers logos too, wich are pretty interesting too. There is a lot of references to the logos on the Final Battle on this game too. I wonder if Final Fantasy Union didnt play FFXIV or just hates it.
The only thing you missed, and I honestly think it's a big one, is the expansions for FFXIV, and probably FFXI as well, which feature very intricate Amano artworks. I guess they may not be 'major' as a mainline Final Fantasy game, but it could be pretty easily argued that the Final Fantasy XIV expansions and their stories are as every bit as mainline and essential as the base game is, especially if a story is being taken into account.
Ff 8, always made me cry. I know to many people it may not make sense, but the word “promise” is so important to me because of Rinoa. The relationship Squall and Rinoa had, was just... absolutely beautiful. They started off as complete strangers, and they dance on their first meeting. And then, things flourished from there. You witnessed Squall develop feelings you didn’t think would happen... she, warmed his ice cold heart. Thus, showing the caring man, for a woman who gave him a meaning to fight, and a reason to live.

Forgot how much I enjoyed this delve into something a lot of people see, but not many people think about the work that goes into such designs. I’m pretty sure this was how I found your channel at first!
You forgot about FFXII Revenant wings and the Crystal Chronicles, the Dissidia Saga, also online expansions AND World of Final Fantasy. I'm actually playing the last one and I really like the logo with all the mirages around. Good video anyway, I learned a few things of my favourite saga ❤
I always loved Yoshitaka Amano's artwork. I Even did a College Level Essay in my Art History class with USB art in the background. I can't deny that I love the Man's style :)
I only became aware of the series with XV but when that logo was revealed at the end i was blown away and with that discovery I thought every logo in the series had a meaning, thanks for this video it's been quite educational.
I really love your channel. My god. I was always a Final Fantasy fan, since Final Fantasy 8 was released back in 1999. I catched up a lot of diffrent games from the series and in the last few months I regained my love again. Thanks for your work and passion for the Final Fantasy series.
Given that it's also my favorite game, I just LOVE 11's - the color scheme, the exaggeration of the central theme of teamwork etc. And while it's not a particular favorite, I was floored after beating XV when the full art was revealed - that was a very nice touch by the devs
VIII, XII, and XV are my favorite logos. I wish y’all had also covered Type-0’s logo, especially since it’s on of the very few spin-offs that has the same style logo as the flagship series, and it was also part of Fabula Nova Crystalis.
I love XIII's logo so much!! I do have to say it's interesting that it features Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok when I thought it was Lightning, Serah and Odin lol. It actually makes way more sense with it being Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok though lol.
Final Fantasy X's logo is my favorite. The Kilika sending scene is one of my favorite moments in the game. Seeing it represented in the game's logo is wonderful. Also, I love how Final Fantasy X-2's logo fits with it beautifully especially for the HD Remaster.
Being European, I grew up with the minimalist approach of just the logo over a white background. And to be honest, I miss that style a lot. It said a lot about the franchise the fact the logo was all that it needed in order to sell well. It gave it an air of prestige, IMO. The Zelda series had the same thing going on, only with a golden background, and I miss that one too.
Here i was thinking that you mean with the title "Logos" as you are called at the end of ff 16, and the logos of ff being ironic lol. The video is pretty interesting btw, good job
Videos like this show why gaming fans are some of the most passionate out there. So much research was done about mere logos of a franchise solely because of how much gamers care about the things they play that much. Despite all the issues rampant in gaming, passion like this makes it all worth it. Wonderful video and I'm so happy it was requested and made.
FFXVI might actually have my favourite logo to date. Come to think of it, it's surprising summons were never used for logos before considering how important they have been throughout the series. I also really like the logos of VIII, X and XIII. While do like XV's logo, I have issues with the fact that it originally referred to something that is not in the final game and that they had to make it make sense with that ending scene.
XV's logo is a lie. Etro and the logo was described as "the most important goddess in the XV world", then they waste it with the "twist" of "it was Luna and Noctis the whole time" when Noctis was barely a character in his own game and Luna is nowhere close to being a goddess. She's a slave to the gods, not one of them in her own right.
this needs a follow up vid for all the other titles like dissidia, ff14 xpacs, revenant wings, tactics, tactic advance, crystal chronicles, mystic quest, type-0, etc
It still gives me chills when I see that scene. The first time Squall truly let himself open up and physically and emotionally allow someone to be close to him. It's so incredibly symbolic of his turning point.
The astronaut scene with the rings floating would have also been an awesome choice, but people that haven't played the game might misinterpret it as wedding rings or something
Anyone else noticed how Final Fantasy alternates crystals and military at most odd and even numbers? Crystal based: 1, 3, 5, (7 if you want to count Materias as crystals), 9 Military based: 2 (Dark Knights of Palamecia), 4 (Red Wings), 6 (Magitek), 7 (Shinra SOLDIER but not really?), 8 (SeeD)
I love practically all the logos. I love how each one is unique to its game. my favorites are 6 for sure. It was a bold yet subtle crimson color really set the tone for the rest of the game
If Final Fantasy had book titles: I - The First and Final II - Orphan Roses III - When the Light Goes IV - The Lunarians V - From The Tree of Death VI - Of Magic and Madness VII - The Promised Land VIII - Children of Fate IX - Creations of Doom X - A Dream from Zanarkand XII - The Ashes of War XIII - The Final Focus XV - The Nightmares of Eos XVI - A Shield for Valisthea
It's awesome that all these logos are connected by one man, it creates an uniformity of games that have different universes, yet similar in expression. Thanks for this well explained video.
On Final Fantasy VI, in my opinion, uses that logo due to 3 reasons. 1. It uses that logo due the game's focus on Magic (Terra) and Technology (Magitek Armor). 2.The Magitek Armor also serves to the game's more technological approach compared to it's predecessors with it being more relevant then ever before. That is until VII came out. 3.The one that has already been mentioned in the video.
I find it odd that you delved into sequel logos but not FF14's expansion logos. Normally I just assume that 14 doesn't get a lot of recognition from the channel due to being an MMO and gathering trivia would take a long time, but the logos require very little time and effort to understand.
I have a deep, personal connection with the Final Fantasy VIII, so I'm super nostalgic when it comes to that logo. But I also really love FF X and XII, they are just so striking. The paintbrush stroke in XII really makes the image striking, and X is just a wonderful image. With all that said, you can't go wrong with VII either - it's a classic. If I have to rank my favorite four, it would be this: VIII XII VII X
Fantastic video. One that was missed though, is that FFVII's meteor logo is also referenced during the Bizarro Sephiroth fight. When you defeat him, he sinks to the side and raises one of his wings upward, as he fades to red, the wing and shoulder form the exact logo on the cover. Something a friend of mine realised when we were kids, it blew our young minds.
My favorite are FF10, FF7 and FF8 10 : its just perfect, the color, what it mean, the pose 7 : simple but perfect, clean. i played ff1 , ff2 (snes) and ff3 (snes) but none of them had logo. never saw the real design and it was amazing.
When FFXV logo added Noctis at the end of the game. It broke my heart knowing he's now dead and in the afterlife. There's an empty fourth seat now everytime at camp.
I just want to say that I really appreciate the content of this channel. FF games are sacred to me and to see such love and attention to detail here means a lot. Please, I am begging you, keep up the great work!
FFXVI focus on Phoenix and Ifrit as antagonistic parties sounds so cool. Those were always two of my favorite summons/espers/gods in the series along with Leviathan and Bahamut. I'm very much looking forward to the game

10:27 is, in my opinion, the most beautiful piece of FF art ever made
Given that it's also my favorite game, I just LOVE 11's - the color scheme, the exaggeration of the central theme of teamwork etc.
The “Endwalker” logo for the upcoming dlc for ff14 is nice as well
It can't beat the Heavensward one if my opinion!
I love XIII's logo so much!! I do have to say it's interesting that it features Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok when I thought it was Lightning, Serah and Odin lol. It actually makes way more sense with it being Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok though lol.
My favourite logos will always be X and XIII. I've also come to love XVs. The reveal of the two characters blew me away
I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy but man am I enjoying FFXVI.
This video was ahead of its time, predicting Logos from FFXVI 😂
Here i was thinking that you mean with the title "Logos" as you are called at the end of ff 16, and the logos of ff being ironic lol. The video is pretty interesting btw, good job
I did think that too lol
Videos like this show why gaming fans are some of the most passionate out there. So much research was done about mere logos of a franchise solely because of how much gamers care about the things they play that much. Despite all the issues rampant in gaming, passion like this makes it all worth it.
Wonderful video and I'm so happy it was requested and made.
My favorite is X, the fact that they have reversed color schemes gives it such a good nod
Nice topic! My fave logo in FFX's discarded one which features Yuna holding her right arm up.
FFX, FFXII and FFXV are my favorite logos.
this needs a follow up vid for all the other titles like dissidia, ff14 xpacs, revenant wings, tactics, tactic advance, crystal chronicles, mystic quest, type-0, etc
This is what’s so great about TH-cam, you can find content on any possible topic that you find interesting.
Amano picked the perfect moment to illustrate for VIII's logo.
Crystal based: 1, 3, 5, (7 if you want to count Materias as crystals), 9
Military based: 2 (Dark Knights of Palamecia), 4 (Red Wings), 6 (Magitek), 7 (Shinra SOLDIER but not really?), 8 (SeeD)
My personal favorite logos
X
VIII
XV (Formerly known as Versus XIII and the logo originally represented the goddess of death Etro)
I love practically all the logos. I love how each one is unique to its game. my favorites are 6 for sure. It was a bold yet subtle crimson color really set the tone for the rest of the game
10:58 I was not expecting Mog to have such a gravelly voice.
this game has my favorite logos ever, I just love how it’s simple and yet they have so many meaning especially once you finish the game
If Final Fantasy had book titles:
I - The First and Final
II - Orphan Roses
III - When the Light Goes
IV - The Lunarians
V - From The Tree of Death
VI - Of Magic and Madness
VII - The Promised Land
VIII - Children of Fate
IX - Creations of Doom
X - A Dream from Zanarkand
XII - The Ashes of War
XIII - The Final Focus
XV - The Nightmares of Eos
XVI - A Shield for Valisthea
XIV - The realm reborn
@@angelbabydragon Tales from a Realm Reborn. You have to include the expansion stories.
It's awesome that all these logos are connected by one man, it creates an uniformity of games that have different universes, yet similar in expression. Thanks for this well explained video.
Kinda feel like this video is going to get a pop in viewership post-FF16 by thumbnail alone!
i love it when you find a video on a super specific topic you never knew you wanted to know more about
Woww that explanation for 13’s logo was incredible, that’s amazing
Yeah, this.
The FFXIV expansions have some real pretty logos.
And honestly, FFXIV has the best story at this point. Should be criminal to ignore it.
It would be criminal for FFXIV to fade into history without some kind of single player version just to relive the plot.
I knew most of this information but it was nice seeing the logos get major recognition and the artist getting some spotlight
If I have to rank my favorite four, it would be this:
VIII
XII
VII
X
I like how you mention logos from 20 years ago but show some from around 35 years ago, how time flies.
FF16 players:
Damnit wrong logos
😂 I was looking for this comment
i love FF XV’s logo & title screen music so much 😭♥️
Really amazed me when FF15’s logo changed when you finished the game.
My favorite are FF10, FF7 and FF8
10 : its just perfect, the color, what it mean, the pose
7 : simple but perfect, clean. i played ff1 , ff2 (snes) and ff3 (snes) but none of them had logo. never saw the real design and it was amazing.
When FFXV logo added Noctis at the end of the game. It broke my heart knowing he's now dead and in the afterlife. There's an empty fourth seat now everytime at camp.
The expansions for FFXIV all had beautiful logos!
amano's artwork is so iconic, i can't imagine final fantasy never using it
I wish u guys covered the logos for the expansions for 14 as theyre a beautiful representations of the theme and events in each one
I just want to say that I really appreciate the content of this channel. FF games are sacred to me and to see such love and attention to detail here means a lot. Please, I am begging you, keep up the great work!
Cool Analysis. But you forgot the FF14 Expacs!
I have a big respect for Episode Ardyn's logo, sir! F*ck Somnus! You are the real king!
To me Final Fantasy 7's logo, despite being the simplest looking one, is the most iconic one out of all of them.
That was such an awesome video so relaxing, informative and nostalgic you rule!
I'm just now realizing how well aged the first logo was, it was a kinda ahead of its time
15s logo changing after you beat it made me cry hard man. For real
I thought this was a video explaining what Logos and Mythos meant in FF16 😂
FFXVI focus on Phoenix and Ifrit as antagonistic parties sounds so cool. Those were always two of my favorite summons/espers/gods in the series along with Leviathan and Bahamut. I'm very much looking forward to the game
Two years later update: I was right to look forward to this game. Holy cow it's amazing
