Each Final Fantasy game has its own logo and almost every aspect is purposeful. Going beyond just conveying the tone of each game, many also tell their own story, having a close affinity with the game’s plot. And such is the intricacy, that even small details may be revealing.
Some logos have also changed over time, further adding to the intrigue. And the first Final Fantasy serves as the perfect example, as it has featured five different packaged logos, each with their own back story and meaning.

Why not do a poll on the community's favorite main line logo to follow up this video? I think it'd be fun
@@tullock13 I wanna ask the same thing too. I can't afford Patreon right now.
i think it be cool to do a Video on Final Fantasy(The 1st Game).
Every final fantasy first battle monsters.
Or early game monsters.
You forgot to explain the FNC logo cause I don't know who that is on it.
America really got screwed on the logos for the early games.
Yea localization was terrible back then. They kept making decisions on what they thought consumers would like without even giving the original a chance.
we got screwed with everything years ago, thank god for the internet today
The less said about America's commercial for Yoshi's Island, the better. {shudders}
Because thats what sold back then. I would blame merican people not Squaresoft
@@TheMehukas blame Nintendo of America
Ff15 has got one of the most fascinating logo! Its the only one with a beginning and end. A story all on its own.
yeah the end of the game reveal of the full logo was such an amazing moment
Too bad it’s wasted on the worst game lol
@Alexander Luna Nah, not the worst game.
@@alexanderluna4598 take off your rose colored glasses and you will see that XV is better than VIII and X. Not to mention X-2,XIII 2 and 3
@@juggalosteef1 jokes on you, I don’t even like those games lmao. X is one of my least favorites along with 8. But 15 is still the worst of all lol.
"Better change the artwork so ppl don't think this product is Japanese"
-American marketing in the 80s
Things were different back then, and a lot of people would be put off buying something from "some overseas country." The mainstream couldn't tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese, much less want to indulge in a completely foreign culture. They needed to westernize it as much as possible because back then you didn't have much besides word of mouth and the cover art.
Which is unfortunate really, sacrificing something beautiful and artistic just to improve marketing and make sure the game sold in the first place. The logos look so unique and eye catching, and we missed out
@@Sykroid you'd be surprised to find how similar that is to current times; as in, post mid-2010s.
@@TheRibbonRed On the contrary, there's _significantly less_ people like that in current times, especially when overly Japanese games like DQXI and Persona 5 have managed to find global mainstream success (not that DQVII and DQVIII and Persona 3 and 4 didn't get a decent amount of attention over here but are hardly what I'd call successful in the mainstream). Heck, they even stopped making Kirby angry for the western box arts and Kirby is the trope namer for that trope, "American Kirby Is Hardcore".
@@mattwo7 say that to Sony, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. They've burned their long-time Japanese partners by fiddling with their products & changing the content as they see fit.
@@TheRibbonRed Also much as is the case with gamers, anime fans tend to get stigmatized in generalization because of all the bigots who enjoy anime.
I think it's important to keep in mind that people can enjoy another nation's culture while being _absolutely completely racist_ towards the people of said nation. Plenty of Japanese people are like this with China and plenty of Koreans (from _both_ Koreas) are like this with Japan. (South Korea imported Super Sentai but because of the hatred towards Japan, called it Power Rangers, I kid you not)
The people in the west who are racist through willful ignorance never went away but they started to enjoy Japanese media.
As a European I've always liked that we got the same art as the Japanese releases. So simple and beautiful.
That's a strange way of saying we didn't get the first six games at all during their initial release.
@@Jotari I was too young to notice actually.
minus FF 13. They just HAD to snap Lighting posing on the cover..shame
Especially for the game ICO.
@@Jotari that's a strange way of being bitter that you didn't get the good artwork
I want to thank Amano for everything he's done for the series
I want to be a student of his. This will help improve my art skills.
YES he's so inspiring and he's a really humble dude.
I'm so happy he's on instagram
A lot A LOT of us wouldnt even have touched these games if it wasnt for the art
The thing I've always loved about the logos is that they always stay respectful to Amano's artwork. It's just economized for print and scalability.
Final Fantasy, I'm pretty sure, is the only franchise that can make me emotional just by the logo alone. I credit Yoshitaka Amano's ever charming art and design 💖
Yoshitaka Amano is a god
And slap it together with that amazing theme and you got a real show of emotions! Final Fantasy XV made me ready eyed at the end of the game when it was revealed to only be half of a bigger picture. And I cried at the opening of Final Fantasy VIIR when the logo showed up. Love this whole series

Don't discount the affect of nostalgia too. Just seeing those logos naturally reminds any long-time player of a certain time in their life, a certain feeling related to that time, a memory of childhood, innocence, unbelievable potential, etc. Imagery is a very powerful thing even in an unconscious sense, completely independent of the surface affects we're immediately aware of.
I still can't get over how bold it was with the reveal of the true logo for Final Fantasy 15. The idea that the team kept that true logo a secret for more than a decade just blows my mind.
I mean it wasn't on purpose. The game went through 4 massive rehauls and canceled twice, put on another system, yanked out of a series.
Went from a 3 year release, to 5, to 7. So they only kept it a secret for 3 years lol. And seeing as the head dev now left. Its fitting to share
It shows in the ending of 15. Luna Freya is such a sidelined character that her being the games logo feels off. I think it’s because it was never meant to be Lunafreya, it was meant to be Stella.
they definitely didn't have that final logo with noctis for 10 years, they probably only came up with it in the last 3. the story of the game went through several major changes, and the original logo represented a character that was no longer in the game, so they had to tweak it to make it make sense with the actual story of the game
@eriknorman1690 it was initially meant to be etro, the goddess of death in the fabula nova crystallis universe that ffxv was originally in. but since they removed ffxv from the fnc, it didn't make sense anymore so they changed it to be the "oracle" or whatever and added noctis
FFX logo is so beautiful
the best logo next to FF12
One of my favorites!
The best logo!!
I love the colours in it. They’re so vibrant
Yessir
The logos for final fantasy are just beautiful, I’ve always wanted to have a wall with them painted on, and whenever a new instalment comes out I’d add that to the wall......maybe one day 🤔🥰
That would be epic!!!! 😲💜
Aye, that's a very good idea tbh
One day in my nerd cave 🙏🏿
Good luck. 👍🏻
Vinyls there’s plenty of places that make them you could also commission a digital art piece that incorporates all of the main themes and have that turned into a vinyl so it’s easier to add to it with new releases
Amano's art is really beautiful and central to Final Fantasy's branding, when he's unable to work on them anymore its gonna be really sad but also interesting to see how the logos change. Hopefully there is someone else who is equally talented who can carry the torch and do him justice.
I nominate artist Moffury to try their hand at the logo sometime. IG: moffury_
@@DeviousOni it's funny you say that because I also follow them! I love their style, extremely similar looking to amano's work
The emperor look is based off David Bowie
I knew ff since ix, but I only watched my brother played it, so I don't really know about ff, my second contact to final fantasy is ffxiii-2 battle theme, my first ff I played is xiii trilogy last year, after that I got so many recommendations about ff and that make me more close to ff, its good finally I try one and I want more
Yusuke Murata (Eyeshield 21, One Punch Man) is an artist I feel could capture a lot of subtle detail in a small amount of space.
After beating 16, I thought the thumbnail was talking about a different kind of logos
Same
Yoshitaka Amano is one of my biggest inspirations. The way he draws figures is just so graceful and fascinating to me
ffxv was my first ff. got me into the series so it has a very special place in my heart despite all of its flaws. knowing the implications of it, the logo change was one of the most beautiful scenes i’ve ever witnessed.
It's one of my favorite FF, it's so wholesome and fun.
It was first ff as well. I’ll always have special place in my heart for it.
INDEED!!!!
although it was my 7th :)
My first as well
Holds a special place in my heart too
Weird compliment: You have a great voice. It's pleasant and easy to listen to.
Why thank you Dave, that's a very nice thing to say :) ~Darryl
I actually like to use these videos to help my insomnia. I love the series and falling asleep to such love and labor is just fantastic.
That’s not weird at all. I also feel the same.
I highly agree. Its gentle but audible and his annunciation is excellent.
There is no other way to listen about final fantasy then with a British accent
X and XII are the best for me.
Yuna with the water is beautiful and that scene in the game is super memorable.
And XII is just badass. That pose with him stepping on the logo is too cool.
XV’s logo made me cry when it was revealed. 😂
Oh god, there were so many tears and they just kept on coming
Me too, especially because it got me by surprise, I wasn't expecting that transition from game to logo
yes it was a really clever move!
same fam
It was the closure we all needed. That they were reunited after an amazing and tragic journey. 😭😭😭
Ff 8, always made me cry. I know to many people it may not make sense, but the word “promise” is so important to me because of Rinoa.
The relationship Squall and Rinoa had, was just... absolutely beautiful. They started off as complete strangers, and they dance on their first meeting.
And then, things flourished from there. You witnessed Squall develop feelings you didn’t think would happen... she, warmed his ice cold heart.
Thus, showing the caring man, for a woman who gave him a meaning to fight, and a reason to live.
i know 💙 and then there's the depth of the love shared between laguna and julia which lives on through squall and renoa 😭🥲
FFXIV has Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers logos too, wich are pretty interesting too. There is a lot of references to the logos on the Final Battle on this game too.
I wonder if Final Fantasy Union didnt play FFXIV or just hates it.
He didn't show Revenant Wings either, and I think that was a sequel to XII.
Heck, I think even the crossover event logos between FFXIV and Monster Hunter World are worth a quick look at least.
Yeah but he did every single ff7 game. Seems a little biased
We have Endwalker now too
@@Dzzy123 Yeah, I wanted to know what was going on in that logo.
You almost nailed 16's plot prediction.
My favorite logo is still XII; Gabranth's imposing pose, the brushstroke and the color scheme just clicks with me more than any other.
I fully agree!
that's why sometimes for people wo works in creative always wondered why we can create such an art when we crunched or in within last minutes. my most liked design is always the last minute request and coincidence at he timing when i do want to do the projects.
That's one of the things I love about Final Fantasy.....for each game, the artwork behind the main Final Fantasy logo almost always means something.....they symbolize something in relation to the story.....

The only thing you missed, and I honestly think it's a big one, is the expansions for FFXIV, and probably FFXI as well, which feature very intricate Amano artworks. I guess they may not be 'major' as a mainline Final Fantasy game, but it could be pretty easily argued that the Final Fantasy XIV expansions and their stories are as every bit as mainline and essential as the base game is, especially if a story is being taken into account.
V,X, and XII are my top three favorite logos.
XII is my favourite too
THAT XII logo. Fantastic.
Indeed it is, friend!
Been my favorite since it was revealed years ago
so sick. Gabranth is the coolest character

Agreed
XIII's logo will always be my favourite. It looks so nice and has most central parts of the story in one compact logo.
Even going so far as to spoil the ending. But it's not really a spoiler without context.
XIII has always been my favorite logo besides X, but hearing the story behind it makes me love it even more! As a XIII fan, I can't believe I didn't realize Amano's design came first and influenced the game.
I've been playing XIII for the first time these past few weeks, and I'm having so much fun with it. It sucks that so many people hate it ;_;
@@alexs_music_lab I'm happy to hear you are enjoying it. I know plenty of people like myself who love the game. It's just unfortunate that the haters are much louder
@@skyserpent14 yeah. toxicity will always prevail for some reason :(
Ff13 was my second ff after 15 and god did i love it. Such a beautiful masterpiece
@@skyserpent14 XIII-2 is one of my favorites of the series.
Totally missing the beauty that is the FF14 Shadowbringers logo.
That ff6 Amano box art is truly the best of the era... the logo itself is kind of strange but when you see it with the artwork they support each other well
FF15's logo reveal made me cry, i still dont know why. Just when it happened i started just bawling
It was seeing them both together again in death or whichever story you believe is canon. Starting to tear up again just thinking about. 😢
You guys are sensitive. Jeez
Lol, when Stella...oops I mean Luna was laying on the throne, I went wait a minute is that the logo?

I wish you included the logos of XIV expansions, they are also great and include important parts of each expansion's story.
I swear, 3 games from now, the logo will be a whole battle taking place around the lettering.
i grew up playing ff x and the cover art always felt really magical and inviting like it had something to say
This video was ahead of its time, predicting Logos from FFXVI 😂
The logos of Final Fantasy were so captivating. Like they were telling you what was gonna happen in the games.
LOGOS EXPLAINED has such a different meaning at first glance after 16 🌝
FFX, Yuna's logo is exquisite af.
Noctis' reveal in the end of the game is a surprise. A good one.
In the games where you could customize the menus color, I always tried to match the color of the game's logo
LOL I thought I was the only one..
I love the meaning behind ff9's artwork. So simple and yet so meaningful.
FF16 players:
Damnit wrong logos
😂 I was looking for this comment
Yoshitaka Amano's artwork is so elegant and aggressive at the same time, I love it.
The “Endwalker” logo for the upcoming dlc for ff14 is nice as well
It can't beat the Heavensward one if my opinion!
"FFXVI is not my final fantasy" - Fan pretender that doesn't know what Final Fantasy really is.
Yoshitaka Amano should have drawn something for kingdom hearts. Wouldve been awesome
Disney doesn't deserve a majestic Amano artwork.
Nomura has made some badass designs but Jesus he can’t hold a candle to amano
Nahhh i think kh should stay as it is
@@DuoSpear said should've drawn something for it, not to be its main designer.
10:27 is, in my opinion, the most beautiful piece of FF art ever made
FFXV’s logo is one of the main things that had me enamored with the game prerelease, and although I have my own issues with what became of the story over its 10 year development period, the fact that the FFXV logo evolves over the course of the game’s story all the way to the end is beautiful and incredibly well thought out.
My personal favorite logos
X
VIII
XV (Formerly known as Versus XIII and the logo originally represented the goddess of death Etro)
You forgot about FFXII Revenant wings and the Crystal Chronicles, the Dissidia Saga, also online expansions AND World of Final Fantasy. I'm actually playing the last one and I really like the logo with all the mirages around.
Good video anyway, I learned a few things of my favourite saga ❤
I really love your channel. My god. I was always a Final Fantasy fan, since Final Fantasy 8 was released back in 1999. I catched up a lot of diffrent games from the series and in the last few months I regained my love again. Thanks for your work and passion for the Final Fantasy series.
Hello, I'm really enjoying to watch and learn about final fantasy's world. I'm really glad that you guys made these videos. Thank you very much.
This was a really fun video! Thank you for your efforts. I really liked the history portrayed and the amount of time you gave to each one.
Love all the artwork for the Final Fantasy series' logos. Awesome job on the video!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!💜
Amano picked the perfect moment to illustrate for VIII's logo.
It still gives me chills when I see that scene.
The first time Squall truly let himself open up and physically and emotionally allow someone to be close to him.
It's so incredibly symbolic of his turning point.
The astronaut scene with the rings floating would have also been an awesome choice, but people that haven't played the game might misinterpret it as wedding rings or something
Final Fantasy X was my first FF game, and the logo was always stunning to me! It holds a special place in my heart
This video made me appreciate Amano's artwork even more, they are so integral to the series as a whole.
That was such an awesome video so relaxing, informative and nostalgic you rule!
I always loved Yoshitaka Amano's artwork. I Even did a College Level Essay in my Art History class with USB art in the background. I can't deny that I love the Man's style :)
Development of FFIV:
“How many redemption arcs should we have?”
“All of them”
Accurate dialogue from Square Enix employees in the studio during development: *“REDEMPTIOOOOON!”*
One could argue that the Moon's redemption arc was even deeper than Golbez's, Kain's or Cecil's.
Missing Zemus redemption arc
What an awesome video FFU! Thank you for digging into this and the research you have completed!
Forgot how much I enjoyed this delve into something a lot of people see, but not many people think about the work that goes into such designs. I’m pretty sure this was how I found your channel at first!
I love XIII's logo so much!! I do have to say it's interesting that it features Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok when I thought it was Lightning, Serah and Odin lol. It actually makes way more sense with it being Fang, Vanille and Ragnarok though lol.
I only became aware of the series with XV but when that logo was revealed at the end i was blown away and with that discovery I thought every logo in the series had a meaning, thanks for this video it's been quite educational.
10:58 I was not expecting Mog to have such a gravelly voice.
Fantastic video! Love the level of detail and subtle nods that I never noticed throughout the years. The FFX and FFXI logos def brought back great memories.
FFXVI might actually have my favourite logo to date. Come to think of it, it's surprising summons were never used for logos before considering how important they have been throughout the series.
I also really like the logos of VIII, X and XIII. While do like XV's logo, I have issues with the fact that it originally referred to something that is not in the final game and that they had to make it make sense with that ending scene.
XV's logo is a lie. Etro and the logo was described as "the most important goddess in the XV world", then they waste it with the "twist" of "it was Luna and Noctis the whole time" when Noctis was barely a character in his own game and Luna is nowhere close to being a goddess. She's a slave to the gods, not one of them in her own right.
Given that it's also my favorite game, I just LOVE 11's - the color scheme, the exaggeration of the central theme of teamwork etc.
And while it's not a particular favorite, I was floored after beating XV when the full art was revealed - that was a very nice touch by the devs
AMAZING VIDEO! im such a nerd for this kind of stuff... I hope you do a part 2 since there so many others games you didnt touch upon like Type 0, i love that logo
Anyone else noticed how Final Fantasy alternates crystals and military at most odd and even numbers?
Crystal based: 1, 3, 5, (7 if you want to count Materias as crystals), 9
Military based: 2 (Dark Knights of Palamecia), 4 (Red Wings), 6 (Magitek), 7 (Shinra SOLDIER but not really?), 8 (SeeD)
VIII, XII, and XV are my favorite logos. I wish y’all had also covered Type-0’s logo, especially since it’s on of the very few spin-offs that has the same style logo as the flagship series, and it was also part of Fabula Nova Crystalis.
Nice topic! My fave logo in FFX's discarded one which features Yuna holding her right arm up.
I just want to say that I really appreciate the content of this channel. FF games are sacred to me and to see such love and attention to detail here means a lot. Please, I am begging you, keep up the great work!
I was thinking about how I wanted to watch exactly this video yesterday and now by meer chance via recommendation I see you very recently uploaded just what I was thinking about! Amazing.
FFX, FFXII and FFXV are my favorite logos.
Final Fantasy X's logo is my favorite. The Kilika sending scene is one of my favorite moments in the game. Seeing it represented in the game's logo is wonderful. Also, I love how Final Fantasy X-2's logo fits with it beautifully especially for the HD Remaster.
Great compilation of logos and history behind them. Lately (for almost a year now), I've been playing War of the Visions and am always greeted by Amano's art of the FFBE version of Gilgamesh upon starting up the game. Yet another beautiful piece.
Love these videos guys!
i sure wish you guys made more videos. no other channel is like this one. Good stuff!
My favourite logos will always be X and XIII. I've also come to love XVs. The reveal of the two characters blew me away
Being European, I grew up with the minimalist approach of just the logo over a white background. And to be honest, I miss that style a lot.
It said a lot about the franchise the fact the logo was all that it needed in order to sell well. It gave it an air of prestige, IMO. The Zelda series had the same thing going on, only with a golden background, and I miss that one too.
I like how you mention logos from 20 years ago but show some from around 35 years ago, how time flies.
Always was curious about this, so thanks for the video!
Woww that explanation for 13’s logo was incredible, that’s amazing
My favorite is X, the fact that they have reversed color schemes gives it such a good nod
I LOVE the Final Fantasy logos! That adore that they are mostly all the same except the background story element made into color.
Great video!
i love it when you find a video on a super specific topic you never knew you wanted to know more about
I thought this was a video explaining what Logos and Mythos meant in FF16 😂
I wish you'd covered the expansions for FFXIV.
Came here to post this as well since they are some of the best. Huge miss! :(
Omg I just said this too 😂
I didn’t even know they had their own logos
The dark knight on Shadowbringers is 🤌
Apparently this channel hates MMO.
Great video! After I saw you explained the logos for X-2, XIII-2, and XIII-3 I assumed you would also go over the logos for XIV's expansions since they follow the formula as well and have great art. But you can always cover that in a future video.
I love practically all the logos. I love how each one is unique to its game. my favorites are 6 for sure. It was a bold yet subtle crimson color really set the tone for the rest of the game
Great video, though got me curious about the FF Tactics logos.
Cool Analysis. But you forgot the FF14 Expacs!
I have a big respect for Episode Ardyn's logo, sir! F*ck Somnus! You are the real king!
Wonderful video! Thanks for the research and reverence!
I’ve been meaning to watch this video for some time but couldn’t refind it! I’m glad I found it again.
The expansions for FFXIV all had beautiful logos!
"Named Rod and Gun" their weapons of choice a Rod and a Gun.
Brilliant video, great content and really well put together, keep it up
I always come back to this video from time to time... It's so beautiful!!!
I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy but man am I enjoying FFXVI.
Here i was thinking that you mean with the title "Logos" as you are called at the end of ff 16, and the logos of ff being ironic lol. The video is pretty interesting btw, good job
I did think that too lol
This is what’s so great about TH-cam, you can find content on any possible topic that you find interesting.
