    It's a knock off a product called Bondic, invented by a dentist and using the same product as what they use for compound fillings.
    I've tried the 5 Second Fix version, it's no where near as good as Bondic, but then again it's about a third of the price.

      If that had a better light it probably would work. UV resin gets hot when it cures. 30-60 seconds under a good UV light works well, but that dinky little light would take forever. You can also put it in the sun for a half hour or so.

    My dentist has used a lot of UV-activated resins on my teeth. They work pretty well. This doesn’t mean that this version will... let’s see...

      Yep, I work with uv resin almost daily and the uv lit source makes a huge difference. Sunlight cures it fine, but it's still going to take a while. Put a high powered light up to it and it's 5 seconds vs 30 min in sun.

    • @Asmodai1234
      @Asmodai1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dentist wears gloves and puts on special sunglasses when applying their UV light though. The UV light in this product has to be weak so not to cause eye damage.
      They'd probably be better off saying to just leave it out in sunlight for a couple minutes to cure.

    Plastic welding *is* genuinely a thing, though it's not something I've heard of outside of scale modeling. One would use plastic cement for attaching parts to one another, which is not an adhesive, but rather something that chemically melts parts together. That being said, the bonds are still weaker than a molded piece of plastic would be.

    This is UV resin which is actually a real thing that works. You can find it at craft/hobby stores. It will probably end up being more expensive than that pen but you'll also be getting a bottle and a proper UV flashlight. Sounded like it was starting to work at the end, you mentioned it was getting warm. Obviously, that little light isn't strong enough to cure the resin in 5 seconds. The theory behind these things is actually ok, UV resin does cure fairly quickly with just a uv light and can be used to join things together and make repairs, the problem with these pen things is that they often come with the worlds weakest uv light and claim to work far faster than is possible, even if you do use a super thin layer rather than the somewhat generous applications Mike used, and as was shown at the end of the video when Mike was shocked that the resin was getting hot, that was it starting to cure and solidify, if he'd kept the light on at even longer it would have eventually fully hardened.

    I've worked at two places that use UV-set resin, lacquer or glue in production and fixing of electronics and their outer plastic shells... There were so many OSHA standards to meet with those, including eye protection from the light.
    Speaking of which, that dingy cheap UV bulb can not possibly be enough to cure anything, let alone in 5 seconds 🤦 It's not like sufficient UV lamps aren't commercially available in resin craft kits or in nail art stores for relatively cheap.
    Also, is there ANY option to replenish the resin from this thing or do you have to buy a new one when it runs out? Those chemicals can have a relatively short use-by date.
    So it's not like the idea for this device is bad, it's just AMAZINGLY cheap and useless version of something that has actual industrial and hobby-scale use. And lack of instructions (including safety precautions) is just insulting and irresponsible.
