    From what Mike demonstrated, the light comes on when the machine does and there's no separate button for it. But if you look in the commercial the light is off. This leads me to believe that no one is actually using it and it's just turned off.

      But you must understand, Dity, Mike is, at times, both an idiot and a klutz. As much as I like his videos, he is just mind-bogglingly stupid sometimes. He rarely seems to *think* about what the device is meant to do before using it and his apparent lack of physical dexterity is often a hindrance when he does test them.
      Yes, the device looks like shoddily-made crap, but you're absolutely right, Dity: It's not meant to be used on nails that have already been groomed to a reasonable length. In fact, it seems to be designed specifically to *prevent* you from trimming your nails *too* short, which is what he's trying to do here.
      Note to Mike: Pull your head out of your ass for a moment and test the thing properly. Let your nails grow out for a week, then take another stab at it. Yeah, it'll probably be just as crap, but you shouldn't have to go through such tedious manipulations to get it to trim anything at all. Then, if it does turn out to do a crap job, you can say so in full confidence that you have given it a fair and proper test.
      Now, of course, I must admit that it's possible he's only playing the fool, in which case, I have been well and properly trolled. ;)

      +Greg Wolking do you people let your nails grow to 1cm before you trim them or something??
      Mike's nails are not trim length, if there's white showing then more can be taken off.
      Mike's nail length is merely passable, definitely not ideal trim

    • @gregwolking
      @gregwolking 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Derek Kato:
      It depends on the individual., of course. I bite my nails, so I don't need to trim them. No, I'm not proud of that and they're much shorter than they should be, but it's a habit I've had for as long as I can remember and I'm too old to break it now. Conversely, I only trim my toenails when they start to catch on my socks as I'm pulling them on. And no, I don't have any trouble using a traditional nail clipper. ;)
      Some people are obsessive about filing/shaping their nails every day so they never need major trimming (i.e., with a nail cutter). Others let a manicurist handle it. Some only bother to trim when the length gets uncomfortable and/or annoying. And, finally, some never trim them at all. I remember way back in high school (1976) there was this one girl whose left hand was completely useless because she had let her nails grow until they had curled into complete hoops about 3 or 4 inches in diameter. She walked around all day with her left hand tucked under her right arm to protect them. WTF is up with that???
      Also, over the 5 years while I was co-manager of an order center (they called us, we didn't call them!) for a company I shall not name, I interviewed more than a few female applicants whose nails were too long for them to type (like 2- or 3-inch "claws" ... yuck!) and they absolutely refused to trim them. Sorry, ma'am, but no job for you unless you can meet company grooming standards. (Yes, men were held to the same standard as women in that area but it was never a problem for any male applicant.)

    • @comady25
      @comady25 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      idk man, using a nail clipper is probably harder than you realise. You need coordination and the ability to apply a relatively high amount of force. Whilst it's obviously easy for us, I bet if you had something like severe arthritis you might benefit from a (preferably functional) version of this.

  • @fanime1
    @fanime1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You should have waited for your nails to grow to test this. Your nails look freshly cut and the nails used in the commercial are at least medium length (as someone who has the ability to grow really long nails naturally, I consider those nails medium). Watching you use that with your nails so short made me cringe in fear and pain. I once cut my nails too short and growing them back was painful! So trust me, you should grow out your nails a bit before testing this product. Having them already short brings the vibration of the machine closer to the nail bed, which you don't want.

    I bought one of these because I often have problem trimming my nails nice and evenly, which leads to me trimming my nails too short.
    When I first got it, it worked great. But then about a month later, the blades became so dull that either my nails would cause it to jam, or the motor would start getting really hot after barely trimming anything.

    I think I see how the trim/file side works.
    In trim-mode, the blade spins relative to your nail to have its teeth bite into your nail to trim it off.
    In file-mode, it's just basically smoothing down the edge with the back end of the blade teeth.

    I know that the ad was trying to imply that the target demographic is elderly people with shaky hands, but in that case why the hell would you give them something with moving blades?!

    You need nails to be able to cut them, it's a basic need with this one

  • @SparksNZeros
    @SparksNZeros 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    this thing sounds horrific but to be fair your nails are already short anyway mike, i'd be curious to see someone with nails as long as the ones in the ad, i can only imagine that the moment you put the nail in their it's just snag and split it :S

    Your nails were already trimmed, possibly too short, for this product to work for you.
    Ergonomic is definitely a thing, it means it won't slip and is more comfortable to hold for people with hand cramps or arthritis.
