    i could be wrong but I think that you're supposed to keep it in one area, moving the light back and forth doesn't allow the light to cure the glue.

  • @GNandGS
    @GNandGS 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    It may be a crap product but you really did go about this the wrong way. I have the "other" brand. Works great. But only when used properly.
    1 - Not a glue. Not intended to be treated as such. Most importantly, not to be used when glue is the better choice.
    2 - When you actually say out loud it needs to be in layers, then don't, its your fault. Each layer is about 1mm. Your attempt was much more than that.
    3 - Hold the light still or move slowly for the curing time. If you feel the need to move it that quick, the repair area might be too large. Yes, you could cure for 1 sec at a time for many times... but why?
    4 - Light needs to be closer!
    5 - In general, if the light cant reach fully and all the way through the material, it wont work. It will harden the surface but remains soft or crumbly within. Its why layering is important.
    6 - Rough surfaces work much better than smooth for this type of material as it is not a glue.

    This product works well with transparent or translucent acrylic or glass products only. The UV light cannot shine through the products that do not let light passing through. I used it to re-attach the glass bead that came off from the metal stand, it worked beautifully!

    I have to say I've tried the 5secondfix glue too and did it exactly how you did it, which I believe was the right way, and did not even look bonding the the pieces of plastic together on my glasses. Will never buy it again. Thanks for sharing your video, it proved I wasn't as useless as I thought lol. Cheers 👍

    i have bought this exact stuff a couple times. it works best when you use small amounts and not large globs. if you do chose to make a large glob of glue you just have to hold the light on it for a while longer (close to a minute just to be sure).

    You have a lot of thumbs my friend.. at least, you don't move parts when you try to glue them together. Also if this stuff hardens up when pointing UV light on it, you should do similar to welding, i.e. put extra material outside and around the crack, more than one layer if you have to.
    I would use one sort of glue inside crack, super glue or alike (where light can't reach) and then used this stuff outside to build support material.
    But usually I do use heat-gun and hot-melt-glue sticks, works really good in many cases.

  • @tomhessiii1216
    @tomhessiii1216 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had the same experience, with two different products (UV cure brands). I made 4 different attempts with eyeglass frames held in the third hand and bonded about 1 1/2 mm thick all around. The bond held for about 3 days in use. I guess the UV of the sunlight destroyed the bond. Now on to welding...

    Alot of these are not glue per se, but used to build up surfaces or to bond them by a fillet joint where the uv light can hit as much surface area as possible. It can’t set what it can’t get light to. It also helps to clean and scuff the surfaces.

      This product works fine if used correctly... but water will let it come loose... only use for things that will stay dry... Also, the glue must be visible to the UV light... don't use it to glue things with a blind joint that the light can't get to the glue...

  • @tomzaccaro3236

    From Jenn ~ It's not working because you are not putting anywhere near enough bonding glue! I have this and fixed MANY things w/ it and it works GREAT! Another Vlogger fixed a pair of glasses frames and a toy airplane and it worked. Try it again! Look at how much "hot glue" you are using compared to hardly using any of the "5 second fix" glue, of course it won't work that way, u are trying to fix a heavy item, so therefore you need to use A LOT of "5 second fix" glue! Good luck!

    My business uses U.V cured adhesives and various types of plastics/epoxies. The impression I get is you have to buy professional grade compounds to use with a professional grade Uv hand wand for small repairs, or a IV light box for large repairs. I'd say you need to spend a minimum of $250+ for a setup that will actually live up to your expectations.

    just tried using the same stuff on n Note 5 S pen that was in the end of the phone kinda moving in there but wouldn't bounce out " nothing would fit to pry it out" , tried a little Blue tak , Power Tak and it wasn't sticky enough just tried this stuff on the end of a cut off cotton budd and uv'd it to the end of the pen and it came out perfect and the "glue" stuck nicely , so perhaps with right application works well

  • @DatamedicsRecovery

    I have to say your technique needs a lot of work. I don't think any product could have held under the conditions you tested it in. You kept moving the head fo the magnifying glass as you're working. Need to get it stationary, glue it all the way around to build the structure up before putting strain on it.

    I thought there was a smell to it hen I used some, sort of a minty smell.
    But it's not really a glue persay, it's more like a 3D pen, but it can only really weld stuff together as long as the UV light can get to it. So you'd probably have been better off covering the outside in the stuff, like a liquid tape. if it was clear plastic here, you'd have been fine.

    • @minnion2871

    my favorite epoxy is called quick steel. theres one for plastic and one for metal. its like a clay in the shape of a roll of quarters. mold it wherever and dries in maybe 5 min. hardens like steel in a hour or so. i fixed broken car radiators with this. with stands high temp as many epoxies do.

    Wrong tool for the job. I use this in a commercial environment where I adhere small glass lenses to a flat metal frame, and it's a Godsend for me not having to hold epoxy while it dries, and hoping the lens doesn't shift meanwhile. It's only as good as it's intended purpose. I will give you this: the commercials hide the fact of it's limited usefulness. But for it's intended purpose, it's wonderful.I work repairing ophthalmic (vision testing) equipment so I can assure you I have no personal interest in the company. Of course I have 2 part epoxy for the many cases this won't work.

  • @element74
    @element74 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This plastic glue is only good for very limited fixes despite how it is advertised and sold by different companies. You need to actually be able to see the "glue" in all around angles. The inside part would be difficult to harden, because the UV light would have trouble trying to reach the inside part. I only used it for fixing the kickstand on a Logitech wireless keyboard and fixes a plastic piece on my dxracer chair. Also I can imagine it being very useful for insulating wires that might have worn out or broke apart. I only saw this thing as a plastic filler in my fixes.

    I bought for over 19€ and it does not bond either. Can it be that it is overdue? There is no life time on the package! • @Prey4Me454
    @Prey4Me454 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Your test is inadequate sir. You have got to build it up a layer at a time to fill a void. You want it to be an adhesive, (glue) which it never claims to be, in fact it clearly says it is NOT glue. I recommend using it to fill a gap like you would use a welding rod. Build a bead at a time one atop the other. Then you can sand if you like, paint if you like, and that thing will be one piece that will break somewhere else first. The hot glue you replaced it with can be pulled right off, in fact down south here , its hot enough to melt that glue stick in a shop or garage, especially in a car. Not so with the welding pen. You were not ripped off, you ripped off the company with non- thorough testing, and your reviewing opinion, disguised as authority. You hate being ripped off...I dislike being misinformed by people that make informational or educational videos, without being first informed or educated, which ever may apply. I hate to just flame someone, but if your wrong while trying to teach, someone is going to need to correct you. I'm sorry.

    Old yes. May not work well on black plastics as the glue can't go through the black plastic to cure it. I will only work well on material that are see through, or semi transparent.

    Beware, I had a very painful allergic reaction including tingling and dying (scaling.peeling) of the skin that has so far lasted about a month because I allowed this product to come into contact with my fingertips. The instructions do actually warn of this and that rubber gloves should be worn but of course you don't necessarily notice them because of the host of other "DO NOT's" that the instructions come with like not leaving the light on for more than 10 seconds at a time and not "mixing old and new batteries" which just seems like being OTT warnings for the sake of them!

  • @toportime
    @toportime 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    He reads specific instructions for layers and ignores them by pouring it out as much as he could.. he is not attaching things to something, he is trying to use it to fill a gap. Is not for that. He cannot even follow the words that come out of his own mouth. It isn't even a glue as he keeps claiming it to be, it is a plastic welding material as advertised. He seems to think it is some super putty or something, his fail.

    It seems that you have no ability for small repairs. Your hand moved too while trying to make a collage. The object must be fixed during curing.
    But we agree to this type of repair, the use of an ordinary epoxy adhesive with a plastic reinforcement around the entire broken, would best result.

In your repair I would have pulled the lamp apart to separate the individual plastic pieces and glued it with super glue and light clamping, would have repaired it to same as new. How is the light supposed to shine through black plastic to actually set of the glue?

      I just read that the thing your fixing has to be see through enough so the light can reach. So I don't see it working for this type of fix either.

      and never mind wiggling the pieces around while trying to get the glue to set.....
      In addition, I have to assume that light and magnifying glass has some weight to it, so, does it say this epoxy is load bearing? If that glass weighs 3 ounces, every inch away from the joint you move, that weight (aka load) increases exponentially...so in effect, he's putting a load of something like 10 lbs on the glue.....
      No wonder it didn't work.....

      I know for a fact this stuff works and works damn well but is costly.

    I would suggest trying it again, but this time, holding the light in one place for five seconds, just like the directions call for. This video looked more like someone having a light saber battle with Darth Vader.

    No wonder it didn't work for you. You didn't hold the light STEADILY on the glue. You moved the light around and didn't hold it on the glued spot for five seconds.

    Why are you moving the light around?

    I must remember only to break transparent things ....

    You need to put it on many layers but if you throw it around and break the weak current layer each time it will never work.

    probably better off using it to fixture your part in a few places, and let the bulk of the holding power to a two part epoxy

    What a surprise! You expected it to fail, and low and behold it did! Considering the thing you were repairing is used to build repair/ investigate small objects, I would have assumed you were used to handling things delicately! It was clear from your attitude from the outset you WANTED this stuff to fail, and sure enough it did!
    It is used for repairing glasses etc NOT big thick pieces of plastic. Congratulations you've proved a thing doesn't fix something if not used correctly - hooray for you and your vindication that you wasted $10!

      I saw a news thing where they tried it out... when they tried to fix glasses with it they found that the UV light could not reach the "glue" in the center of the bond making for a much weaker bond than the commercials implied it would.

    What happens if you shine the UV for More than 10secs? I did it for 1min and it glued my metal rearview mirror good. Go figure 🤣 I bought mine at DD Discount for only $4+tax. Did the job on several light duty projects.
