    I’m guessing this stuff is very similar to UV gel used for fingernail extensions and art work. I love that stuff, and became interested in resin artwork as an offshoot. People should realize that every product has limitations. If it works for what you need, then that’s great. If not, try something else. Thank you for this nice review!

    I am wondering if the UV led light is strong enough. UV cured nail polish is very particular with the actual light source and time cured. Many manufacturers recommend only using their own lamp source. Some UV nail polishes only require 2 minute cure time, others 3 minutes. It mainly depends on the power of that led light. It may pay to test with other UV light sources.
    Just because the proto model worked, doesn't mean corners weren't cut in production. But, we are talking about a $2 to $5 buck product. Not a miracle cure.

    On dark items, chamfer the edges of the items to be welded. Doing this will produce a good strong join that can then be sanded down to match the edges of the repaired item. Then, give it a polish if it is a shiny surface. Good stuff regardless. Don't forget this is the same stuff the dentist uses to fill a cavity.

    What I use with this is some fiberglass and/or silk nail wrap and work in layers around certain items to add strength and it works like a dream. (This is my girly way of thinking, combining cosmetic application and handy work.lol) if you look up how to repair a nail with uv gel and fiberglass/silk wraps, it should give you an idea of what imean. The rolls of wraps you can get are super cheap and the perfect size for doing small repairs. The wrap turns nearly transparent as the resin is applied and cured as well. Fixed one of my mixing spatulas that I use daily that was split in half applying a little bit of the uv gel between the halves, doing a "flash cure" to get it to hold so I don't need three hands to wrap and "glue" and apply the gel on each layer curing in between for 3 layers and the darn thing has lasted for months with heavy use and even mixes very viscous products. Anyhoo, just wanted to give some tips for anyone who has the product already etc. Great thorough review. I tfs! Subbed for sure!!

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh and if I am doing a little bit bigger repair or not in a hurry, I use my uv gel nail lamp to cure the "glue" hands free. You can find them super cheap on Amazon in a variety of sizes. I even have a portable one the size of my palm that has retractable legs to use and then snap back in place for easy travel, like in your pocket or something. And I just use my bigger (huge)one like o said, for bigger repairs.lol

    I used the glue just the other day to repair a spun bearing in a plastic housing of a cordless grinder, the bearing seized and spun the bearing wearing the plastic down so it was a sloppy fit, after a few layers of the uv glue were applied the bearing was a great tight fit again and was a perfect cure for my use, I have used it several times for different jobs and it has been great for the right type of use.

    This stuff is just like the UV gel used to create fake nails which are brushed on in layers and each layer is put under a UV light to cure before the next layer of nail is added. I have also used these UV gels to add a shiny gloss to the outside of my polymer clay jewelry creations. I've also seen it used to make fishing lures. As you said it can be cured pretty quickly in direct sunlight. It works great in a place like Las Vegas and Arizona where we have sunshine all year long. It's a great product once you know how to use it. There are many different brands of in on the market, many of them can be found for sale on Amazon. One that I use most goes by the name of MagicGloss, but if you want to find others just look up UV gels on Amazon for a list of them for sale. I hope my info helps and adds to what you've already said. Great review! Take care, Dee😉👍

  • @velcroman11
    @velcroman11 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    5 second is not welding. Welding 'fuses' the materials together. Super Glue is a good glue but there are some surfaces that won't take it. There are probably materials that won't take 5 Second Fix, there are some surfaces that will not take it. It wouldn't stop me from using it because of the facility to move the surfaces about, that's a really good option. Great review very objective, thank you.

    I wonder if this would do better with longer exposure to the UV. The fastest curing UV resin on the market will still take a couple minutes of exposure to UV, and that's normally a bigger lamp that can get all angles. (This can also be done in sunlight, although it would take half an hour or more in comparison to a few minutes with a lamp.)

    Sometimes it is just easier to buy a new whatever. If you are gluing (using any glue) something of value, how safe do you feel with that item? Broken pair of glasses? Just take them to optometrist and buy a new frame. They will reset the lenses for you, usually at no cost for the reset. Just pay for the frames.

    LOL, I thought it was humorous that a Loctite ad followed your review! Because of your conclusion, I’m going to Super Glue a model support (very small) then use Bondic, which I am guessing is the same as your 5 Second Fix, to add a little weld.
    Edit: I watched another reviewer (I know, sorry!) his idea for not needing 3 hands is to ‘tack weld’ a spot to keep it together, then go back and complete your repair. Looked logical.

    Works really great if you put it not around it but between it like you are putting it back together woth the glue in between. >"Works really great if you put it not around it but between it like you are putting it back together woth the glue in between."
      If you are putting it in between and then closing the gap, the UV light cannot get to it. You are supposed to put it around the break, plus it is better to use multiple layers.

    Tried 5 Second Fix on a broken folding chair on the plastic hinges. Despite several attempts it didn't hold. Maybe the stuff is good for repairing eyeglass frames but I wouldn't recommend it on anything that has even a minor amount of stress applied.

    Maybe a good product to use along super glue, so that something can hold it together from the inside.

    i have used 5second fit to sorta remake a nose piece for my safety glasses... these are my Rx so i just can't get them for 5$ the nose piece worn off so i used this to makeshift a nose piece with layer by layer material... i think if i would keep using this stuff is to get a much stronger UV light for better and fuller curing for mine was a slight sticky possibly from so much of the material being used but it works non the less for what i use that kind of stuff for... for gluing?? nothing says more serious then Qbond... can ask me more if your curious

    • @Freakinreviews
      @Freakinreviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It only works where the UV light can reach, thus it functions more like tape than glue.

    Stick with superglue and use the baking soda trick to set it fast and hard. Just put a sprinkle of baking soda on the glued spot to set it fast and solid

    I found this product preformed well.
    I also found that rather applying along where 2 surfaces join on the outside that you need to apply it on the surface contact surfaces of the areas being connected. Apply as close to the edges as possible and cure. And then apply along the outside as you did and cure. This makes for an adhesion that is very powerful

    Glass industry used or may still use this uv bonding technic to bond glass together for aquariums and the like, on a much larger scale than this little pen of course. So it works just probably not as good in such a small configuration. Thanks bra!

    popsicle stick was bonded with a huge gap. what did you expect? hold it using only a fraction of available space? it isn't universal fix all.
    bonds two popsicle sticks. part of the feel after bonding shows him momentarily trying to separate the sticks from the side without any adhesive.

    Glad i saw this video. Low expectations for UV "glue" as an adhesive, but as a filler in fine word working maybe. Example, a fine clock with a gouge needing filling, if the plastic could be tinted, colored to match wood on clock then maybe it is repairable, with good color matching. Coloring plastic liquid is the problem, will UV work after tint mixed in? For my industrial epoxy fills, I used a non-reactive powdered color/tints found in art stores, forms a paste, infinite color possibilities, then layered taking hours to harden very solid! With UV, large sections of fill is easy, needing only moderate adhesion, with adequate color matching if tint-able ~~

    So the question is, who made their product first, this company or Bondic? Reason being, I watched this VID thinking it was for Bondic, so it looks as though one company has allegedly pirated technology from the other. Just a thought though. Seems like your testing was what I'd do - - just to get a feel for the functionality of your product. Enjoyed your experimentation Sir, top notch VID!

    I tried the 5 second fix to repair the headlight lenses on my truck, they were separated from the reflector part of the light, like the factory glue that was used to hold them together had gotten old and lost its hold. So I grabbed the 5 second fix product from a Pharma store, and it was kind of expensive I thought, like 15 dollars. So I thought if it works, 15 dollars is a lot cheaper than the cost of a brand new headlight by far. So I buy the stuff, and go out to my truck, and push my lenses back together, and I proceed to lay a bead on the seem, to weld together with the little light, and it seemed like it was working, so after I welded all around the light where I could reach, I thought I think it fixed it, so I drive back home which was about a 20 minute drive, and when I get home, I immediately got out to look to see if it was still holding, and it sure wasn’t, it popped back open and the lenses were sticking out wide open. So I thought, well there was 15 dollars waisted. What a fail.

    I have used with promising results... no glue will adhere to dirty greasy surfaces or poorly aligned surfaces. I always leave the product to sit for overnight before testing!

    Dump the glue. Refill with good clear UV epoxy, as a touch up, nick filling pen. Sand and paint in 30 secs. Mine just wore out after 20 full refills and the battery still has charge. Tip screws off btw.

    Great production an this video. You must use a generous amount ACROSS the crack from one side to the other. It looks like your only putting a little bit right at the crack. Its not adhesive so you need to think of it as a support plastic that sticks to plastic. With that, you go widely across one side of the plastic to the other. dont think GLUE, think TAPE. Thanks for posting

    I like that you are comparing, but there are particular products that should work better for these fixes. How about a good wood glue (like Titebond) or hot glue for wood, and E6000 for plastics and ceramics. Yes, you have to let them dry, but they will work well and are permanent! A good glue or bond should be as strong as the material after it's done.

    I know it an old video but. I tie flies for fishing and use 5 sec fix for creating heads and securing some materials on the flies. There is a product by Loon outdoors that is almost the same thing as 5 sec fix for creating fly heads that is also a UV cureable product that is much more expensive.
    I found 5 sec fix on clearance for 2.50 a tube so it can be purchased cheap just look around.

  • @coondogtheman

    You should try Lazer Bond USA. I find that it works slightly better than 5 second fix.
    I use this for light duty stuff and hot glue for the heavier stuff. This stuff isn't great for places where you can't get inside with the UV light to harden the glue.
    Also this type of glue is useless for things that get hot. I used one of these to glue a handle back onto a cooking pot and it lasted maybe one or two uses before the glue gave out it was sealed and no glue got inside the pot. I used a cabinet knob and it has a hex screw type thing that fits into the knob. I glued where the hex screw thing goes into the knob.
