      I also want to see the bust padding. I have a really drastic bust, so it looks a little weird in kimono

    You aren’t the only one who transposes words and phrases. I took German in high school, but learned Italian for work. I was in Germany for this very first time in my life on a business trip, and I had to ask directions from a police man. I asked in my ancient German and was so astonished that I actually understood him, I replied in Italian. He was puzzled, to say the least🤨

    I just thought you might be interested to know that the "Chidori gake" is called the "herringbone" stitch in English. I like finding out what the stitches I use are in other languages.

    I do the same waist padding, but I don't stitch the towels together. I'm just a bit lazy, I guess 😅. And I would appreciate a chest padding video greatly. I struggle to create a nice flat surface, and it feels like it's that one little detail that messes with the whole look. 🙄

    I definitely want a video on chest padding! I'm even smaller! I'm always so jealous at how perfectly smooth those model photos look! Is it possible that my collar creeps up because I don't have padding no matter how far I pull it down? Just slides right back down the front?

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      WhichStitchWitch the collar that doesn’t stay on place can has probably 2 reasons: the missing padding and probably your body shape. I also feel the limit of the deepness of my back collar at a certain point. Usually how I wear it is the deepest I can have it. Under that it will wander upwards. Another resound could be the way to you your nagajuban on (probably my Videoabout how to put on a nagajuban can help you with that) or the erishin doesn’t fit you very well (you can check out my diy erishin Video to see, how a for example to soft erishin can destroy the back collar).

    Thank you Billy, this is a great video! I'd love to see the chest correction one too as I'm very flat chested 😂
    I'm also interested in knowing how to keep cool with all this padding under the kimono in hotter climates. I'm currently using a commercially available hechima hip padding which is great but I don't think I'm achieving the best silhouette with it🤔

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      iloveragdollcats thank you so much! Hm... my number one recommendation is avoiding synthetic fibers. As the towels are 100% i don’t feel hotter or cooler. I in fact like that they absorb most sweat and my undergarment and kimono don’t get too sweaty.

    Ah! I made the same type of padding as you without knowing it. I'm very interested in the chest padding. I'm getting into Taisho period kitsuke and have trouble achieving the very dramatic back neck silhouette I see in pictures. Thank you for yet another amazing video!

    The section about how kitsuke is different in the 20-30s to today is very interesting. Even going back further than that, is this related to how old Japanese artwork shows kimono with a lot of fabric draping, whereas nowadays a columnesque look with minimal wrinkles is preferred, or what that a choice of the art style?

    I'm so happy to have found this channel! Whenever I wear kimono, I have issues with my obi sliding. I also sometimes have problems with my koshihimo because it wants to slide up my waist. This padding seems like it will help a lot!

  • @keithvirgin5280

    More padding videos please. That was so helpful! I use positive padding and I’m a severe pear shape (your waist but even bigger booty) and afterwards I’m a cylinder of fluff.
    I read somewhere that the obi line is supposed to tilt the other way, the makura side being of higher positioning then the front. I don’t know if that is right and it’s hard to achieve.

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith Virgin I’m pretty sure that I never said anywhere in this video that the Makura shouldn’t be higher than the front and you can see very well that my makura are higher than the front with and without padding. I was talking about the obi line i.e. the top edge of the obi which is more horizontal with padding than without (which also means that the makura sits higher with padding than without). I btw also do heavy positive padding on my back when wearing formal kimono, because I want this perfect horizontal line and a makura that is sitting very high when wearing a nijūtaiko, but I prefer a more casual look for every day like in this video. You can see I change padding depending on my outfits. That’s so much fun!! ❤️

    This was informative, but I'm really hoping for a video on chest padding. I'm completely flat and so feminine style kimono don't sit right on me. But in contrast, I have quite large hips. Still an awesome video, but looking forward to the chest padding one!

    Thank you. I bought a belt that padded the arch in my back. I cried when I first put it on. Pressure to be curvy and slender is powerful. I accept it now. I use a corset for my breasts when I can get help dressing. Wonderful information 🕊

      Corsets work pretty well. When I dress my friend who wears corsets for under her kimono. I'm always so jealous because she looks so much better with her corset than I with padding.

    • @barbiebunnybakery1896

      When you say corset I am a little confused 😐 I would have guessed that stays work better like around 1740s till maybe 1800s ? Or are we talking about Victorian era corsets 🤔 I’m very hourglassed and usually that seems to be my biggest problem.

      @@barbiebunnybakery1896 I'm not a pro corset maker, but corset enthusiast and I have a suggestion. Since desirable body shape is pretty flat, maybe 1920's corset can do the job? Cause they have the similar purpose.
