  • In a book I found how to make a erishin of a DinA4 paper. Erishin is one of the kimono items I never could come up with a DIY, so I couldn't get around making this erishin and trying it for 7 hours. Watch how it turned out! :)

I forgot my eri shin once when packing! In a pinch, I used a plastic protector for a three-ring binder. It’s for protecting a piece of paper in the binder, but it was easy to fold up, was stiff, and was just long enough. Keep up the great ideas, Billy!

Ok I watched very carefully & made the initial erishin, looked at it & thought 'it's too short'. The initial size works well for making an 18in doll sized erishin. I made 3 of them and attached them together for a long one or 'human size' erishin (a larger or bustier person could simply make more to extend theirs). As I am creating an entire Kimono outfit for an 18in doll, the initial one will work well (although I will be making one out of thin poster board as well).

Robbin Lynn Spencer-Buchtel taping it together is definitely an idea.

Forgetting some vital part, like erishin is so relatable ^^;;; This video brought immediately to mind how I once found a piece of paper (somewhat like this) inside a juban I bought. But it was thin enough to be silk paper, not stiff at all and made crinkly noises ^^;;; Also very difficult to get out >.< I wonder if the previous owner used that magazin for inspiration.

I have made the Mae Ita board from plastic placemats from the thrift store before! I was going to try and make an Eri Shin with them soon :)

Dear Billy, I would really like to know what the style of your obi is called in this video. The way it is “tied “. Very simple and chic!

Hi! This one is called “obi wo musubanai Obi musubi (Obi knot without tying the obi)”. I think there’s also a tutorial online by the teacher who came up with it.

my erishin broke and I haven't been able to find one that ships to my country, so this could help me to reinforce the part that's cracked ☺️

I live in America and so I’m not able to find an erishin, but I made mine out of thermal plastic! It works extremely well!

Hello, well I’m just starting and find your videos inspiring. I live in the US and was wondering about getting items from Amazon since I haven’t been out to shop much and I hear there are delays if I try to order anything from out of the country. That being said, do you ever look on amazon? Anyway, I tried this diy with some adaptations: I used a bigger paper from my junk mail that was about the size of news paper, the first try I folded the same as suggested but think it feels bulky, so the second try I folded down cut out the short layers and lastly coated it in clear plastic packing tape since I don’t want the ink to rub off on anything. I hope to make or buy the items I need until I can wear my kimono for real. Thanks for all your educational sharing.

Wouldn't it work to place a crinoline/horsehair braid han'eri? I believe it would be more elegant and soft looking
Edit: i believe strips cut from plastic folders and pvc table protectors or plastic placemats / tablemats would also work.

You can make several and connect them into the length you like

I admit to watching these while knitting (but I'd consider it preparation for when I can afford kimono for myself)

Oh, the eri that was pulled a bit from covering the back neck unlike on little girls and both young and older males did not I shockingly noticed for a long while was called an erishin so when I can have a kimono the first time on, I would tell them I don't really need a erishin at all, because I just want my eri to cover my back neck, is there a name for a back eri that covers the back neck on little girls, boys and men at all?
Because I want it to be just like on little girls which I never have on when I was a little girl and I didn't like on men's eri did not have an erishin only, but why erishin on women's so I want it to be also like I notice no erishin on chinese or korean collars didn't have their own erishin and it was weird so I want my kimono didn't have or need an erishin at all.

Good afternoon, I was trying to find a way to contact you but got no email address or contact form. Anyway I'm italian and I'm a Zen Soto Nun. What I do for living is tailoring Zen Robes like Kolomo, Samue, Juban and more, which I learned to sew here in Italy. But I would like to know more about this garments and their meaning like for the Kolomo. Could you help me to find more information? Sorry for my english...

Be careful with tape tho. It contains acid wich ruins color pigment overime. I recommend acid free tape
