- Tag Heuer released a banger of a watch in the original glassbox and now, they've followed up with the Skipper. I think it's an amazing watch for all sorts of reasons and also think this really signals that we have to start taking Tag Heuer much more seriously.
As always - Tons of thanks to all that choose to subscribe. It means way more than you realise and is a huge motivator to keep producing and developing my videos. If you are new and haven't subscribed - If you enjoy, your like, your comment and your sub would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers!

I’ve been into watches for 20 years and you are the best watch commentary channel i have ever come across. I thoroughly enjoy your content. Thank you for what you do.
Mike-a very thoughtful, nuanced review! You are a rising star in this segment, and I appreciate you! Keep up the great job and I hope LVMH and others are watching!
Thanks - Really appreciated. We'll see if I get famous one day 😂😂😂
Had a look at the glassbox duo and this " skipper" in the Birmingham boutique UK. All three beautiful watches showing a return to form.
Totally on point with the brand. Less is more and concentrating on their history and sports ethos will get enthusiasts excited again.
I couldn’t agree more with your review.
I picked one of these up last weekend. This is a gorgeous watch and a perfect fit for a 6.5 inch wrist.
Lucky you!
It's made my shortlist for the year (which by now is a longlist.... ) 😂😂😂
I have a hunch that Tag Heuer is on the cusp of being projected into greatness like Omega did. I remember a time (no pun) when Omega's were very cheap. You could pick up a Speedy Pro used at a very good price. Now their prices are sky high (no pun again). Tag is going this way too, in my opinion get them while they are still undesirable
They have definitely upped their game recently 😀
You continue to be the voice in my head with a smarter and well thought out reasoning, a wealth of knowledge that is laid out brightly for my better purchasing and collecting portfolio. 👍
Kind of you, thanks. Be careful about the voices in your head though 😂😂
Excellent as always, I really enjoy your subject choices, analysis and viewpoints. Thanks.
Much appreciated and as always, thanks for coming back for more 😀😀
I am happy that I found your channel. Your reviews are on point and you don't look down on any brand. Thank you for having your review allow the watch buyer to buy the watch that they love instead of looking down on a brand and promoting another brand.
The watch community may not love Tag Heuer but it's the watch of my choice. I actually was excited about a Black Bay but on trying it on it wasn't me.
Thanks for watching 😀
Love the watch, the one thing I found is that the curvature of the glass box and the depth of the dial curvature together create this round hallow glare, once you see it, you can't un see it - did anyone else notice that? Great video btw
Tag is very hot right now. Its nuts, its like they were invisible and now people are scooping up even the vintage pieces! I don't own a single chrono but this is nice! Have a great weekend Mike!
Well said - They are clearly having a moment. Cheers 👍👍👍
Thanks for the informative review!
Glad it was helpful! 😃
Excellent as always! Watching from Taby, vacation day 16.
Enjoy! and thanks for sticking around 👍👍👍
thank you for the very balanced and thoughtful review. I love the Skipper, although I‘m usually pretty disinterested in chronographs
Very welcome! 😀
I don't like any Tag Heuer watches from past few decades, but I would buy this one. Pity it is above $5K.
Loved your review and style of presenting. Liked and subscribed. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the sub! 😀😀
Great vid! I recently made a big birthday so my Mrs. bought me the Blue Glass Box Carrera. It is 39 mm. THAT is the one thing that really sold me. I really love the VJ 7750 lay out like the IWC but go and look at any of the Carreras including the Skipper. The IWC is 41 mm. All of the other high end chronos are too large for my 16.5 centimeter (6 1/2”) wrist. It’s a lovely watch. :-)
Thanks - and good choice on the watch 😃
Absolutely gorgeous, and the new one in gold looks even better!
Great detailed review.
Glad it was helpful!
A very great review.
And I love the skipper from (tag) heuer. Maybe my next
Thanks. 😀
Like the Skipper, but REALLY like the GlassBox Carrera. Tag Heuer has done a really good job this year.
For me it's the skipper first, but they are great both of them. They are doing really good things 😃😃😃
Just stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and now I just can’t get enough of it. Your analytical skill is unrivalled among others. I love how you demonstrate to viewers through your thoughtful process to getting to decisions and points. Your speech is eloquent and refined. You speak and we listen !!
What is your opinion on the omega speedmaster 57 olive dial which was released last year? I would love to have your thoughts on this chrono. Many thanks!!
Welcome aboard! Appreciate the feedback. I’m doing a q&a soon - might touch on the 57 there
(I do like it though, in the all encompassing shadow of the speedy)
Good review.
The *Skipper* is a brilliant time piece and a beautiful looking watch.
And the bad news... the world in on to this watch and it's getting very hard to find.
Lovely watch and review. What mic do you use it’s very clear
Thanks - appreciated. 😃😃😃
I used Rode wireless mic go II with a Rode lavalier II lav mic plugged in. IT's super, noise free and relatively flat - maybe leaning a little to the bass end.
In post, I cut off a little of the low end and lift some of the high end frequencies.
Great analysis! I especially liked your segmentation of the chronograph models, as well as your 3 dimensions for breaking down a watch’s appeal.
Glad it was helpful! 😃 and also - really appreciate the feedback 😃😃
I was torn between the Skipper and a mint Heuer 60-year-anniversary limited edition panda chrono I found. Ultimately I went with the Panda for its rarity. But I think Skipper is easily the best looking TAG in production, and possibly the best looking among all the "colorful" chronos right now. It beats all the Breitling Top Time, for sure.
The panda was definitely a good choice but like you I think, right now, the skipper is by far the best watch they have 😀
I really appreciate your videos!! Simple and concise! I’m getting my Skipper in March (it’s already waiting for me in my AD), but I would like you to have your opinion about this - I could actually buy a Snoopy now (I’m going to pick it up in beginning of February - but I’ll giving it to someone, he paid for it). Would you buy a Snoopy or a Skipper? The thing is, I’m not a millionaire and I’ve bought the Seamaster James Bond 60th anniversary, 2 months ago… it costed almost 10k! So, considering the cost of both watches (Snoopy 12k and Skipper 7k), which one would you buy (I’ve 2 Speedmasters already…)?
Exactly my thoughts. The 39mm Carrera Chrono collection is bang on the money
Mike - thanks for the video, interested in the Venn diagram approach for watch evaluation.
Many years ago TAG had a poor reputation for reliability on a UK Car website (their watches lasted a year)
Still puzzled by modern watch design . . . 45 years ago the Rolex GMT master was 11 mm thick.
Surely manufacturing has improved, CNC is now part of manufacturing, why has watch design gone backwards?
Less premium companies like NOMOS delight in producing thin watches - I don't accept thick lazy design from other companies.
Some high luxury brands can manufacture thin watches . . . modern Rolex have become more chunky.
Compare and contrast say with advances in audio HiFi luxury brands which are now producing more sophisticated products.
Interesting point - My thinking is thickness is also partially down to balance and "masculinity". Too thin and it doesn't have the weight people expect from that type of watch . 😃
Does it have any magnetic resistance or is it anti-magnetic?
I don't like big watches but couldn't resist purchasing the Autavia Caliber 2, as designed under Jean Claude Biver. The reverse panda dial, hidden date within the subdial, and the delightful clicking sound as you rotate the bezel, which functions as a second time zone, 80hr power reserve, were all too appealing to pass up. It was a very popular release but the size (50mm lug to lug, 15.5mm height) ruined it for most people. Tag eventually discontinued this model after Biver left instead of refining it to proper dimensions, which was very disappointing. It's interesting to see Arnault change directions by revitalizing popular historic models after initially pursuing an alternative Apple watch with their Connected watch, a model line I have heard very little about after it's much hyped product launch.
There's a lot to say about Arnault and how he got the role, but I actually think he largely is doing a more focused job on design than Biver did. Internals / movements are not his thing and I also don't see him changing the fact that Tag is both high end, mid range and low end in one, but design - something good is going on.
😃😃
Perfect in many ways but the 14mm thickness stopped me from buying.
It may just be for many... I'm seriously considering it still though... 😃😃😃
I buy a heuer and keep quiet from my friends for fear of derogatory remarks. Maybe it will start changing 😂
Don’t tell them that I own two Tags as well, one of which I love even though it’s still ugly in my eyes… 😂
whilst I would love to own that hanhart (so I can talk to people about Steve McQueen, and tell them a story about some mistress who painted the crown of a pilots watch pusher Red with her Chanel nail varnish) for me, the skipper is only beaten by the Zenith everything else including Rolex comes behind the Zenith. The Breitling watches don’t have any heritage and come across as a bit childish to me, as trying a bit too hard, The skipper is fun and it is in my price range.
just found out about this blue dial 39mm and LOVED it. looked up the price on C24 and holy fuck, youd have to be an asshole to buy this OVER a zenith el primero or speedmaster for LESS money!
There's one thing that subliminally brings TAG Heuer down for me: Their logo. Heuer's logo was rather industrial and the addition of TAG did not help. Also, the colours. All together, it looks like an oil brand. Castrol, Agip, TAG Heuer.
It's funny how a lot of people react to that. It's not an issue for me, but there is something there that many react adversely to 😀😀
Watches like this make me interested in Tag and chronos. But I hate the Skipper because I'm not a sailor and find sailing and it's culture cringe.
I've had it for 1 week, and it's not very precise!
That's a shame. If it isn't up to spec, have them regulate it 😃😃
How fast/slow is it running?
beautiful watch...absolutely useless as a regatta chrono... how many people actually racing their yachts with this..
Have yet to see a yacht watch that will ever actually get used as a yacht watch 😂😂😂😂
And how many dive watches actually go diving? GMT's used by regular travellers? It's just style that happens to have a function that will never be used in reality same as every other watch genre
Formula 1 and the less classy looking watches from Tag Heuer DO have their buyers and I don’t imagine they would want to be implicated as having made bad choices. Perhaps a more diplomatic tone would make a video like this more inclusive and more universal for a global audience.
I agree with this sentiment. Though perhaps I just feel personally attacked 😂. I have a real soft spot for the late 2000/10's Formula 1 models with hooded lugs. Though he's spot on about price! Half the fun with those watches is the association with that time period, but the other is the bang for buck on the used market!
Fair enough. I’m not in it to hurt anybodies feelings.
On the other hand, I have made it a point to not sit “on the fence” as many other youtubers do. I see too many videos where YTs do everything they can to avoid having any kind of negative opinion so as not to hurt their chances with the algorithm.
At the end of the day, as I say quite often - People should buy what they like and not care what other people think or say.
Ps. I own two Tags, including a quartz, plasticky, 1990s abomination - In my eyes it’s ugly but I still love it. 😀
Cheers 😀😀😀
Too thick.
For some, for sure 😃😃
Not for a Chrono it's not
No. It makes Heuer look like a Swatch
okee dokee. To each their own as always 😃😃
