  • TAG Heuer’s iconic racing chronograph, the Carrera, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and is taking full advantage of the opportunity to revamp parts of the collection and introduce some special editions along the way. Earlier this year we saw the release of a new ‘glassbox’ style 39mm Carrera released, within a collection of 5 new references. But there was another one waiting in the wings, which finally saw release last month, a new Skipper Carrera which brings the now familiar colorway to the slick modern chassis. It works just as well as you might expect, and best of all, it joins the collection as a regular production model. It is through this watch that we’ll be taking a closer look at the new Carrera collection as a whole, with special attention to the unique details that make the Skipper, well, the Skipper.

    Saw this yesterday in Sydney and its incredible, far better in person with a lot of three dimensional features on the dial.

    “Regatta” was the “ship/yacht/boat”-word you were looking for. 😅 This watch (and the original Skippers) would be labelled “regatta timer”.

    Saw this at a TAG boutique last month. It's gorgeous... but I wish the indices were brushed, not polished. They glitter a little too distractingly under light.

    got my Skipper earlier this week, it's amazing.
    wonder why TAG Heuer's website dedicated a header just for the Skipper. Is it that much of an important watch?

      It needs to be big, because people tend to read "skip 'er" and click past it...

    Thanks for the review, but why do we spend most of the video either looking at a person, or looking at the person looking at the watch, rather than us looking at the watch itself? If you're talking about a feature (orange pips for example) it would help to have more than a couple seconds of macro shots to drive the point home. In short, if I wanted just a narrative, I would read the article. Again, good review just oddly short on visuals.

    My initial thought was, I love it. But now I've lived with the design for a few weeks, I much prefer the Hodinkee release from a year or so ago. It's much more faithful to the original. This version feels a little too over done IMO.

    • @tpcam78
      @tpcam78 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Hodinkee Skipper only had one subdial and it wasn’t a 15 minute counter like the original. At least they got the name right.

      nar this is SO MUCH BETTER than the earlier hodinkee.
