    Story for the Ghost:
When the native Americans moved into this area, one of the hunters saw a large white bison roaming the plains.
And every time he was spotted the tribe got luck with the hunts the crops and the weather aswell.
One day an ignorant hunter wanted to hunt down the Great White Bison.
But when he came face to face with it, he stared into its dark black eyes, and he blacked out.
When he woke up the bison was gone, and after that never seen again

Mosairu Kachina is a Hopi spirit of the bison that wishes luck and rain a prosperity on the Native People. She is said to be a white bison that roams the plains giving luck to tribes. Hopes this gives you ideas

It'd be interesting if by some strange occurrence, that you ended up breeding an Albino Bison in the game. Then it'd be like the Ghost has returned to visit his/her homeland.

You know EVERYTHING so far in this zoo is very angular, so instead of making the enclosure rectangular as well I think I would have build it more organic/amorphic in shape, suddenly rivers and stuff like that would have worked. This way, although the area is damn large, it stills feels restricted and squished.

  • @thomaspowell6993
    @thomaspowell6993 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

You could have a broken carriage or wagon train in the bison enclosure to make out like humans came and traveled through their land which disturbed the bison

Love this habitat and all the bison stories people have been making.
    Here's another one from me:
Across the plains of Black Rock, there once roamed a herd of bison. Their thundering hooves sounded like could be heard from far off and the balence between the herd and the people living near them created a good stability. The bison provided more than just meat, but their skins made clothes and their bones made tools. They were respected, and no one dared to hunt the great herd leader.
However, when invaders from across the great sea, they did not see the bison the same way. They just saw them for the meat. They hunted them more than they should. The herd dwindled. Their last straw was then when they chased the herd off a ridge to get the last remaining bison, including the leader. They ad an abundance of meat, but left everything else in the gorge.
That night, the thundering hooves returned, which shocked everyone because of the loss of the herd. A scout had seen a large white bison in the distance, visible in the moonlight. For the next several days and nights, the invaders searched for it; deeming that this one would make a great prize for their wall. Almost none of the hunt parties returns, and the ones that did told terrifying tales of a bison with the strength of the 1,000. At nights, they could hear the roaring hooves and shock in their sleep.
The Great White Bison with the strength of thousands became a protector of the other herds that survived, and a guardian of the people that protected and respected the bison.

My idea for black rocks ghost story:
The alpha male of the bison herd was a huge bison, with horns great enough to carry a bear, and hooves that shook the earth when they fell. The herd lived in the area close to the entrance, and the cliff atop the cave was their surveillance point. The alpha male would stand proudly atop the cliff, watching over his herd and his domain. One day, the herd was attacked by a ferocious pack of wolves, and the Alpha bison was driven to the cliff atop the cave. As he stood his ground against five wolves, snarling and pouncing at him, he had his back turned to the cliff, and one of his hooves slipped. The mighty beast tumbled towards the earth, and his final resting place is thought to be the caves that run below the river. Fragments of his herd survived the wolf attack, and some say that on misty nights the figure of a great bison can be seen stood atop the cliff to this day...
(Dramatic!) The kind of story that I think would be told by Native people, about the conflicts inherent in nature and the act of standing your ground (even if standing your ground leads to your corpse in a cave)
EDIT: OOOH! And then when you add wolves, you can have a counter-story, where the "demon of black rock", maybe something akin to a wendigo, could lurk among the wolves. And that demon was the leading charge against the alpha bison

The ghost of black rock was one of the first bison to walk these plains and the very first to be killed by hunters when protecting his family. The family got away but he now wanders Black rock in search of his family and protecting the other bison from human interference.
(It was very controlled cause I know you don't have much space)

    The Ghost of Blackrock:
Many years ago people lived alongside the bison, taking only what they needed. But the people became greedy and killed more bison than they needed. They overhunted so severely that the bison population is still recovering. Legend says a bison’s lost spirit still roams these lands in search of its herd.

I absolutely love this exhibit. It’s beautiful and is a brilliant mix of modern and keeping true to the natural aesthetic of the theme.
In regards to a back story for the ghost of Blackrock. I had a little snoop on google to see if there were any actual legends of bison to see if you could base it from a true story. I did find this piece of information:
“Bison were one of the most important food sources for Plains tribes, but they were hard to hunt in the days before guns and horses, so there were many rituals, dances, and prayers in Plains Indian tribes related to the difficult and dangerous but life-sustaining art of bison hunting. In many Plains Indian myths, bison gave themselves up willingly as a food source for humans, and therefore have a special position of honor and respect.”
Maybe the ghost bison could have sacrificed itself for a particular tribe during a time of struggle and because it revitalised the tribe. They paid tribute to it by giving thanks annually during lean times. They drew the story on the walls of their homes

an idea for part of Black Rock's story: A luxury resort was built on land that originally belonged to the Black Rock tribe. In recent years the tribe regained ownership of the land and decided to convert the resort into a center to educate people about their culture and local nature conservation. (I also like the idea of some of the exhibits being built out of the resort's old golf course)

I can’t remember what it’s called. Wood is put in a diamond shape on walls so plants can grow up it. Trellis maybe? I hope someone knows what I means, but that has a modern look to it and would look really nice in places.
Also (not hate just healthy suggestion) try experimenting with a bit more colour? Modern is a struggle but pops of contrasting colour can help. you’ve used warm tones in the wood and copper, so you can use cool tones around 😁

I couldn't help but think about the Black Hills of South Dakota while watching this video. I lived there for five years and spent a lot of time in Custer State Park. If you drive the wildlife loop at the right time, you will get stuck in a bison traffic jam as they move from one clearing to the other using the road. I do know that there are some native american (lakota maybe?) stories with a white buffalo.

The Ghost of Blackrock was said to be a portrayal of Kusarikku (a god in Mesopotamian religion who is said to protect inhabitants from malicious intruders) himself. According to Native American legend, it was said that Kusarikku could be seen in the prairie fog running around colonist settlements, taunting and cursing them for their constant deplimation of his family. The colonists had enough of his torments and ended up bringing the bison population to near extinction in hopes to rid the spirit once and for all. This did work, however, it is said that when fog settles upon the prairie, the melancholy calls of Kusarikku can be heard. (ok thats probably too long sorry but im trying not to write my essays for school so)

If wolf will be in this park make a story about how the wolves became dogs or some symbiotic relationship with the bisons or something

    • @StanHowse
      @StanHowse 4 ปีที่แล้ว

There was/is no symbiotic relationship between bison and wolves. It was a predator & prey relationship. The wild Bison died out.. Wolves are still there. (now). A symbiotic relationship is like, how a certain species of Moth is completely dependent on a certain species of Tree and vice-versa for each others' survival.

Hey BIS, maybe you should make the tunnel visible from the inside of the bridge, like adding a glass pavement directly above it.
Also i think the guest are not going up the stairs because they can see the bison trough the gap and just stop right there. (You can see some of the guest just standing at the center of the stairs waving at the gap.)
    Overall, amazing design :)

  • @avama
    @avama 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe for the the story there is this white bison roaming the plains. The natives always saw it and if one were to catch and gains its trust they would get enteral life or something. The bison was rarely seen, but soon became a major part of the native’s stories. Some would see just tufts of snow white fur or a white silhouette in the mist etc. It has even been spotted in times of war defending the natives or leading them to a patch of fertile land. it is said the bison can still be spotted and seen to this day and still brings luck to the park. The park looks so good! in my opinion I like the bison exhibits on Both sides but maybe still scrap the underground caves!

Hope I'm not too late on this. I think it's best if the legend incorporate the other animals as well. It would be cool to have one main overarching storyline than just several unrelated ones.
    My version of the story:
One day, a quite infamous pack of ravenous wolves decided to raid a Native American village. Out of nowhere, an albino bison entered the scene and it chased away all the wolves. Miraculously, none of the tribe members were killed. The chief was convinced that the bison is the reincarnation of his father, who was looking out for his tribe, even from beyond the grave. The chief's father had died one year prior, after he accidentally entered a grizzly bear den while he was out foraging. To this day, people still believe the ghost bison still exist, protecting the humans from the hungry wolves. Oh, and the pronghorns were just there to watch I guess...

story : there were a large herd of bison that roamed black rock, until a group of settlers came and needed food, so they started hunting the bison,
but we’re very wasteful of the other resources like the hide. They got greedy and started over hunting the bison and only taking the tastiest pieces of meat. but then one day a hunting party went out to go get some more food. it was quite misty and cold so they couldn’t see too well, but slowly members of the party were disappearing. The others thought that they had just gone back to their settlement, so they kept on searching, but then even more members started disappearing. The party leader got worried so he started heading back too, but in the corner of his eye he saw a flash of white, now remember it was quite misty so he couldn’t tell what it was, he slowly walked over there until he heard a deep bellow and started running. He could hear the crashing and crunching of the flora behind him, it was getting louder and louder. He tripped...
he looked back and saw this huge mangled bison, with bullet holes and huge lacerations in its side, standing above him, breathing deeply. it put on hoof on his leg, breaking it. He let out a loud scream of agony and fear. But suddenly when he thought it would kill him, it snorted, turned around and walked off. He managed to get back home, but told his story. They soon moved off the land. The animal population rose and black rock was theirs again
    The End.
( i know it’s way too long but maybe you could shorten it )

When you talk about ghost bison, I immediately think about this picture of a bison herd in Yellowstone, which swam through a river on cold day, and then when they came out their body heat caused the water on their coats to evaporate and they basically looked like mist was coming off them, shrouding them and making them look like a ghost herd. I don't know how to find it, maybe google ghost bison?

Here's my submission for the story of the Blackrock Ghost, hope you enjoy it Bis. Might be a bit long so feel free to condense it as much as necessary if you decide to use it.
Long ago, unimaginably vast herds of bison roamed the whole of North America. But soon after European colonizers arrived, they set about hunting these animals on a huge scale, slaughtering numbers of bison in one day that, had they been allowed to survive and breed, could have fed the hunters for years or even decades or more.
Eventually the settlers reached the lands around Blackrock. And there they encountered a problem.
Blackrock bison were exceptional in size, health, strength and beauty - a true jackpot for hunters. Local Native American elders warned the newcomers against harming them, but they refused to listen. It looked like the Blackrock bison were set to be pushed to the brink of extinction just like their brethren all across the continent. However the settlers found that hunting these bison was not so easy as it had been before. Day after day, they tracked and chased the herds, and day after day the herds escaped, somehow managing to find their way into impassably tangled forests, narrow gorges, or mazelike cave systems, where humans could not follow. Even stranger, the forests and caves could not be found again if they were looked for. And always after these failed hunts, someone would report seeing the same massive, pale-coated bison leading the herd.
The hunters persisted for many months, but to no avail, and as they became more persistent, so the failed hunts became more dangerous - groups lost in the forests and caves, or plunging over precipices that seemingly weren't there when the bison passed through the area moments before. Then a harsh winter set in, and the choice was clear - leave Blackrock, or they wouldn't survive. So they did, and the land that would become Blackrock Park remained relatively undisturbed until an archaeological expedition in the late 20th century. This expedition found another bison jackpot - a huge amount of remains of the extinct species _Bison antiquus_ , dating from tens of thousands of years ago. One of the larger specimens even had a small amount of preserved fur - a single patch of almost pure-white hair.
Coupled with the would-be settlers' tales, this specimen became known as the Ghost of Blackrock, and years later, it became the mascot of Blackrock Park Zoo.

Tbh they did the bison and the NA Grassland dirty. Living in Wyoming and having done tons of stuff outdoors across the state they didn't leave much for the grasslands. It kinda disappointed me that both the bison weren't part tiaga and/or temperate. Also, why weren't there any trees at all for the NA grasslands? Also also, it's kinda weird that they thought sage brush and (because of that) the whole of the sage brush steppe was thrown into taiga when it's just much more grassland like. Definitely grass underneath and all around the sagebrush across the hills and stuff with a lot more of a "plains" feel to it.

If a bison skeleton comes out into the game. You could make an area possibly satyng like " Archaeological discoveries has shown that this is where the bison of black rock park was found with a shotgun wound" something like that

I have a little bit of backstory for BlackRock park, maybe that there is a native American tribe who lives on this land who cares very deeply about the animals that live on its land but due to them being very poor, they contacted your franchise (somehow) to build a zoo on their land which they could work as employees. Maybe you could have an area where it is in the design of a native American camp such as Tipi's with a large area for the to do their ritual dancing which could be entertainment for people to watch. This could also create backstory or your franchise that maybe they help out local people across the globe build zoo not for profit but for conservation like even for Mai Pen Rai the local fishing village contacted your franchise to build a zoo on their lands but work as employees. This could work later on when you build other zoos such as an African village contacting your franchise or some English/French rich person who owns a large manor wants to build a zoo at their estate. Also for the ghost of blackrock park, it could be a native American legend that a ghostly bull would appear by a river and if you offer it food, it create good luck or something like that.

On the day Black Rock was born a white bison calf was also born. They had a very special connection and would spend time together roaming the plains. Black Rock grew up to be a powerful warrior -riding her white bison into battle. When the White Man came to pillage the lands, they feverishly hunted down the warrior and her bison. Black Rock won many battles and saved her people. For days they fought off the White Man. On the morning of the 7th day they were cornered on a cliff side. „You can take our lands, our animals, our lives! But you will not take our spirits!“ With those words they lept into the gorge. Not long afterwards the White Man abandoned the area. Claiming they were being haunted by a great white bison at nights.
    Something like that perhaps..?

You should try to add dinosaur skeletons/fossils into the science center, I think a big dinosaur skeleton would make a great centerpiece.

    The Ghost of Blackrock
His name was Wanka Tanka meaning “Great Spirit”. A mythical white bison who protected early North America from the Darkness of the world with his elemental power. Some say he still watches over his heard to this day, and even though his days have since gone he lives on as the Great Protector, Spirit, and Ghost of Black Rock
I think something along those lines would be cool😁😁 Ik I’m alittle late but still

something that many people don’t know is that native american tribes are still very much alive today. the park should be run by the modern family members of the tribe that’s lived on that land for hundreds of years! it would be a great way to get their story out and to educate the public about the importance of conserving north american wildlife! it would also add a fun and unique twist on the narrative of the park

The story of the great ghost bison:
There once was a bison that the natives called Boston.
The natives treasured Boston like they were it’s parents.
Suddenly, a huge tiger showed up and started to attack the village people.
Boston charged the tiger and he ran to a cliff edge where he had nowhere to go.
Boston looked back at the village and saw people crying and some crowded around Boston to see the outcome.
Boston looked back at the tiger and saw him slowly sneaking away.
Boston knew that if he didn’t kill him he would come back and terrorise the village once more so he charged the tiger and took the tiger and himself off the edge and the village lived in sorrow for a while but then evolved to become what we know as Brighton.

If you ever breed an albino bison, you could add on to the story and say the local tribe revers it as a descendent of the original ghost, and allowed the zoo to exist only if they protected the bison.

Story of blackrock ghost: It once roamed the plains with many bisons, Yet something was different, it had glowing white fur with mystic eyes,
Many bisons fought it and lost, soon after the herd moved plains the bison stood there slowly wisping away like a ghost nothing left but foggy mists, some even say it shows during midnight, and others say it had to do with the natives, all we know is it’s mysterious.

I don’t know if this will work but the story I have came from the Lakota museum and cultural center. So if you can find or breed a white buffalo!
    Legend of the White Buffalo
One summer a long time ago, the seven sacred council fires of the Lakota Sioux came together and camped. The sun was strong, and the people were starving for there was no game. Two young men went out to hunt.
Along the way, the two men met a beautiful young woman dressed in white; she floated as she walked. One man had bad desires for the woman and tried to touch her. But, as he did this, the man was consumed by a huge cloud and turned into a pile of bones. The woman spoke to the second young man and told him, "Return to your people, and tell them I am coming."
This holy - wakan - woman brought a wrapped bundle to the people. She unwrapped the bundle, giving the people a sacred pipe and teaching them how to use it for prayer. "With this holy pipe, you will walk like a living prayer," she said.
The woman told the Lakota about the value of the buffalo, the women and the children. "You are from Mother Earth," she told the women. "What you are doing is as great as the warriors do."
Before she left, she told the people she would return. As she walked away, she rolled over four times. Then, she turned into a white female buffalo calf; hence the name White Buffalo Woman or White Buffalo Calf Woman.
It is said, after this important day, the Lakota honored their pipe, and buffalo were plentiful (from John Lame Deer's telling in 1967). Many believe the birth of the buffalo calf Miracle in the United States on August 20, 1994 symbolizes the coming together of humanity into a oneness of heart, mind and spirit.

Ok, so here’s my take on the story.
The legend of the Ghost of Black Rock dates back to when the indigenous tribe first settled the Black Rock area. When they arrived, life was extremely harsh. Storms and tornadoes and floods kept thwarting the efforts of the people from being able to master the land.
With his family hungry, a youth named Black Rock went hunting alone. Out on the plains, he discovered a bison that was trapped in a ravine. But instead of killing it, the young man released the animal. So the bison ran off, leaving Black Rock still hungry. As he went to search for food in a nearby forest, the young man was attacked by a pack of wolves. And, just when it seemed all was lost, the bison returned and drove the wolves off.
Black Rock would learn how to find food without upsetting the balance of nature. He taught this to his tribe and eventually became their first great chief. The bison would become the leader of his herd and remained a friend of the young chief his whole life, frequently visiting him in his village. Eventually, the bison itself was named Black Rock to honor their friendship and the way the bison led in the wilds. It became a title, where the head Bison (always a male descendent of that first great bison) was given the name Black Rock. Each of these Black Rocks would guard the prairie against those who would upset the balance. And that is how the place got it’s name - this is Black Rock’s domain.
That is, until the settlers came. The settlers came and tried to drive away the local tribe. They slaughtered every bison in the area, including the last Black Rock. But when that happened, the weather turned for the worst. The land became dry and arid. Storms ripped across the land, tornados blasting over the plains. And when it did rain, it would flood so much that the cattle would drown. It was at this point that the settlers, now long the owners of this inhospitable land, gave up. They consulted with the few remaining members of that tribe and eventually agreed to turn the land into a zoo and a wildlife sanctuary to honor the natural world of the plains. But something strange happened when the first animal was brought to the area. When the first bison in a century stepped foot in Black Rock, the winds suddenly stopped. With the first calf born in the area, the grass found new life and shot back up. People say it is because of a spirit that lingers over the land, the very ghost of Black Rock that protects this place. And now, with balance being restored, Black Rock watches over the park against those who would harm it.

Because there’s a “ghost” in the part maybe you should sneak in the bison statue in different places as if the bison was watching over the land still

    The Ghost of Black Rock:
There was once a young Native American hunter, who learned from his father how to hunt bison. The young hunter, however, did not want to kill the powerful beasts. He had a deep respect for them, and would often disappear for days at a time following the herd. He taught this same respect to his wife and to their children. One day however, he fell ill, and tragically died. But his spirit was lifted, and he became a great white bison. According to legend, his descendants still see him watching over them and their home. The Ghost of Black Rock.
