I found your channel today and I know this video is old, but I wanted to say it's really refreshing seeing someone playing this game online who actually gets excited for the animals and their care. A lot of channels are all about the building aspect and not so much about the animals so it was really nice to see you get so excited for the animals.
I know they probably won’t ever do a prehistoric pack but it would be awesome if they added a pack for water animals
They probably won't do the prehistoric pack due to their Jurassic one but I'd loooove an aquatic one!!

I’m Norwegian and yes some reindeer are domesticated but not all of them, in Norway we use rain deer for domesticated and wild reindeer/caribou

The fact people were telling him he was wrong for calling them that is silly. Reindeer and caribou are different names for the same animal (Rangifer tarandus). So BestinSlot was not wrong to call them that. It just largely depends where you are from and how the names might be used.

This glowy silhouette effect is btw called subsurface scattering, it's something that gets increasingly popular in game design since new render techniques can actually handle this and make it look realistic.

Caribou and Reindeer are indeed the same exact species (Rangifer tarandus) and called different names, exactly akin to how a mountain lion (Puma concolor) also will be called a puma or a cougar, depending on area. Also the same for the Gray Wolf (Canis lupus) which is also commonly referred to as the Timber Wolf.
Fun fact! The Pumar Concolor is in the Guiness book of world records for having the most names! My favorite include: Mountain Screamer, Cat with deerlike fur, and Ghost Cat. My least favorite is Mountain Lion, because a. They are not lions and b. They live in pretty much every biome
North America: Caribou
Europe: Reindeer

I know I just found this video but I figured I would just throw this out there from my experience. Here in America we use both terms. We called the domesticated ones reindeer and the wild ones caribou. But either way North American or Europe they are all the same "Rangifer tarandus" ( I think I spelled it right) is the scientific name for them all. This is also to tell you I liked this video and can't wait to watch the rest.

The bison in this game annoy me. They DEFINITELY don’t mind the cold and we have a decent population in South Dakota and the map shows their “populations” further west and up north.. it’s like they don’t even count the bison we have in our state. Just something that has bugged me ever since the game came out

It's only a reindeer if it's been domesticated or semi domesticated (hence the use of rein). Having said that, they are pretty interchangeable, kinda like how we (in Europe, in the past) refer to moose as elk, but in America, it's a completely different type of deer.
Elk and moose are very different species, moose are way bigger and have wider and broader antlers and more solitary while Elk have more typical looking antlers, smaller and prefer to herd.

Shay No and yes. They can be used interchangeably, but technically, a reindeer is a domesticated carbou. Having said that, caribou is an American term so in Europe, we'd say reindeer for even the wild ones.

I'm pretty sure if you press the + when you're trying to add a piece of barrier to a habitat it'll give you an extension piece so you don't have to have a piece away from the current habitat and then connect to it
You can click the first fence and press the plus sign to build the fence directly from an existing habitat

Sooo traditionally Reindeer and Caribou were used as different names for a reason. Their subspecies yes. Their from different continents and do have minor differences. But the bigger reason for the two names is reindeer is normally used to refer to domesticated caribou and reindeer. This comes from settlements and native groups in Eurasia which domesticated these animals. You will never hear them be called caribou. However wild species are often interchangeable. As a Canadian born in the north who has actively seen caribou migrations and been to Eurasia and seen reindeer they are different. Mostly in antler structure. Tines on Eurasia's population tend to be more pointed and their flares are larger where as in north america their paddles are more pronounced as they age and their tines tend to be more rounded. Their are minimal differences in their height appearance but if you have seen one you pick out the other XD If we are talking species though yes BIS is correct. Rangifer tarandus is the latin name for both. Their tend to be bigger sizes on caribou in north american, but the same can be said about genus of wolves in contrast to the two continents. Caribou tend to be slightly taller with more pronounced wracks. Reindeer came from pack animals who became loose and feral and the term started in Siberia. Much like mustangs are their own breed now they were once just feral horses xD Reindeer in Eurasia are shorter, more compact and have a thicker fur layer, attributed to the beginning of selected breeding back in the day but their is a reason they are different subspecies. One simply dwarfs the other comparatively in size. Although I have to admit I found the reindeer cuter, but than I also grew up with people hunting the caribou.

In norway we say Reinsdyr and there is a diffrence between Tam rein and vill rein tam rein are domasticated by the sami people while the wild ones arn’t
And the only people who can own reindeer are the Sami people if I remember correctly (?) I don't know why he bought grizzly bears. We don't have that in Norway, we only have brown bears. Also I think wolverine should have been.

@@jacobgrimstad7423 Some Sami have talked about how they feel about the authorities and how they are not letting them have as many reindeer as they want. I love that Sami tribe also use the whole animal, they use the skin and everything. I wore shoes when I was little I had an uncle who was a Sami. He taught me a lot about the culture. And how they lived before and how they live now. And how they were treated before, that they couldn't speak their own language , and all that. It is sad that we have treated them so poorly. Unfortunately my uncle died a few years ago but I still remember his stories ❤️

As one of the few TH-camrs I have come across that did these career mode campaigns, I figured I's try asking you -- did the other DLCs have similar campaigns? Or was it only the Arctic pack?

I would love to see a little bit more effort in your campaing mode. Like im not asking super complex buildings but a little bit of visual aesthetics. Like a good path close to the viewing area or blueprint buildings or a good habitat design that is not random trees Etc since they give you really beautiful scenarios that kinda goes to waste with random stuff just to finish the goals :(

TheOriginalFirefly same thing happens with the polar bear...it’s cause they have the continent set as “Artic” but there aren’t any plants from the artic, hopefully frontier changes that soon but that’s how it is for now
