You’re way too hard on yourself BIS! Your buildings are awesome and I LOVE how you create little backstories to your designs, it makes the whole thing more real!
THere is a common theme with difficulty getting staff to feed animals. The creators of planet zoo should really jump on this and find a fix. Because it has to be more then user error at this point.
It's not broken. There's nothing to fix. The game is doing what it's designed to do. =) The zookeepers judge by population size and overall food requirements. The problem people are having is wanting the zookeepers to instantly put food in the exhibit the moment the animals are placed, but this is not something the player should be trying to do. It's not a bug that the keepers don't do this. The reason the keepers don't is because the food will go bad and be wasted before the newly placed animals become hungry enough to eat it. Newly placed animals take longer to become hungry because their stats all start at 100%. When they start getting hungry is when the keepers start going to the keeper hut. After that it becomes routine and you have regular feeding, which is why things seem to "magically start working" after a seeming "battle" has taken place. Only if the animals are reporting they are hungry and the keepers are still not feeding them do you actually have a problem. Otherwise, things are actually working perfectly fine. Player error, not game error. I have over 100 hours in the game and have observed this is just how the keepers work. Plus if you read the update note, it explains this, as well. Also, recently, they've updated it so you'll receive a message notifying you if a feeder is unreachable. If you don't get a warning message stating this, then that means the keeper CAN reach the feeder you placed and is simply waiting to feed until there is a need.
Lady A this seems to be an issue that continues after the first initial feed, through what I’ve seen in at least four different YT channels that play Planet Zoo. In fact, they’ll often get protestors because their animals will be starving. Now, I think this still isn’t entirely the creators fault because a lot of the Yourubers stubbornly (and stupidly) refuse to do the tutorial, so they don’t realize how important work zones are, or setting the time between feedings, or keeping up with Keeper/Caretaker needs, efficiency and huts necessary. The game is still fairly new to everyone so everyone is still learning. Time will tell if this persists as an error on not just the new players’ part, but on the developers part.
@@septemily That's fair. I agree. And I should say I didn't mean to make it sound like it absolutely wasn't a fault with the game, because it very well could be. What I said was based on what I've personally observed in my own games, and the zookeepers always seem to take a decent while before they start feeding for the first time. It's always when the nutrition stats starts to go down that I notice they start doing it. It's a performance pattern I'm able to duplicate consistently, and it was also mentioned in the update notes, which is why I thought it was worthwhile to mention it. But I think we agree with each other that the problem is, if it is with the game itself, at the very least exacerbated by people not doing the tutorial and then complaining about not knowing how the game works. The tutorial is there for a reason. Work zones, keeper needs, overall efficiency, etc I agree are absolutely important. So I should clarify that my observations I mentioned were happening with everything else you mentioned already being correctly managed on my end. BestinSlot could indeed have been experiencing a different issue and the video just didn't show the entire problem because it was edited, which is fine. If memory serves, he did say it took him over an hour to fix, so clearly we're missing detail. There does seem to be a delay the first time the zookeepers feed the animals (consistently), and I do think the game is intentionally programmed to behave this way (probably to avoid the food being bad by the time the animal gets hungry for the first time). The error, I think, comes in when that calculation fails and the animals do start starving, but that assumes I'm right about the game being intentionally programmed like this, and that is by no means something we should assume since I don't work for Frontier, ha-ha. In reality, it's probably a mixture of player error AND game error. Interesting to theorize about, though. =)
I honestly work in a zoo myself. It's a glorified petting zoo but anyways my first year I wasnt allowed to do anything but the second year I was able to go in the enclosures etc, so I feel Nick's pain
This is absolutely incredible! The whole idea of having multiple zoos themed for the different biomes is awesome!! Also, I love how you think up stories behind everything you build, it really adds to the immersion while watching your videos, love them!
I love the stories that happen in these episode~ Ooh, Firewatch! Might have to go re-watch that at some point. The plan sounds good, it must've taken a while to work that all out, too! Wow, you weren't kidding about fighting the keepers.
If you want a bench placed somewhere without path, if you place the path and put a bench and remove it, the bench will stay, same for if you raise the path, the bench will stay
I played this game for 7 hours, and now has an entrance and a peafowl habitat... I've grown very big respect for you to put out so many amazing Planet Zoo videos so fast!
I know you're done with this but one good idea (in my opinion) is that when there is a rain forest you should make it nearly covered in treas. I don't know about you but when I think of a rain forest I think of bearly any light hitting the ground. I am not complaining by the way. I love your videos and keep up the good work.👍
Your frustration with the keepers is a real fuckin' mood. Good god. I had the EXACT same issue but was never able to solve it. The feeders would be right at the entrance and the keepers would walk in then just walk off and start wandering!!
You are my fav planet Zoo youtuber because your prefered buildings Style ist very similar to Mine, i dont have the Game yet, so i Just watch what you build and can be Sure it is great Inspiration 😊👍👍

I'm too addicted to watching your zoo-videos! I want twenty videos a day! Haha! (I know that's not possible, but you know, just keep up the good work. Love it!).
I love the entire concept of your franchise- I was planning something similar myself! I’m not half the builder you are, and I’m having a great time watching your videos and learning. Thanks!
Lovely video again! I'm not sure or you've seen this but keepers tend too not feed the animals until they are actually hungry. I also stressed about them not being fed because of the beta bugs but if you let the keepers just do their thing everything works out as it should. Maybe i'm wrong and you were having a bug but this is what i have noticed in my game. Great looking zoo man. :)
The animals were starving to death, I actually had to quarantine them to stop them dying at one point so, that's definitely not the problem! EDIT : And just read your addition aha.
Frontier mentioned on their stream: An empty feeder does NOT mean that your animals are hungry. It can also be that they just ate everything that there was, and aren't hungry at the moment. If they're not hungry, keepers won't bring food.
I love your builds so much! But also please don’t put moats/ditches around every enclosure! I just saw orangutans at the San Diego Zoo last month, and the coolest thing was seeing the animal come right up to the class. I think the idea is that it makes the habitat look more natural, but I think a glass barrier is less obtrusive than a giant moat. Again though your builds are so cool and I love the content! Watch every one!
Deep breaths. =) The game is not broken. The zookeepers do not suck. The reason they weren't feeding the animals was because there was no need to do so (at least not yet). The animals were not hungry yet because they were placed brand new into the habitat. The game calculates based on population size and overall food requirements. The reason it finally worked had nothing to do with training. It was because by that time the animals had been in the habitat long enough that they were starting to require food, so the zookeeper went to get food *as the game is programmed to do.* Newly placed animals take longer to become hungry because their stats all start at 100%. First video of yours I've seen, I like the exhibit - got a new sub. I'm looking forward to playing this game this year too and hopefully making some videos.
Love this channel I’m 12 and from Leeds I’ve watched this channel so long i was watching this and my dad said isn’t that bestinslot the guy you’ve been watching since you were 5 Lol 😂
Orangutans are probably considered a higher level animal, so they need a higher level keeper. A level one keeper could help with the frogs, not the lions, etc.
Wonderful video and lovely zoo! I've been struggling with the keepers too.. not sure if it's a bug, but it sure is annoying that they don't just feed the animals by default. I also set the food quality to grade 3 by default, which you can do by clicking on the fence, then the paw icon in the menu that pops up. Good work, keep it up!
You should (At least try I have no idea if it would work) to put the keepers hut and staff room inside the house you made (Of course after lowering the whole thing a bit so you can make a path up to it) so instead of it symbolising a person helping and living with the Orangutans it is someone actually doing that (And we can just pretend the assigned keeper lives in the building)
I wonder if they will ever to decide to make a prehistoric DLC considering a lot of Zoo based tycoon games do that a lot. It would be especially interesting considering that at that point they would have a bit of competition with Prehistoric Kingdom.
If you want to improve your building, work on your scaling. Find an object that is roughly the same size as the people in the game, and place it next to your building while you build. That will help you a bunch I think.
