When I lived in East Africa, [Kenya in the 1980s] the Land Cruiser was the top 4x4 by quite a long way. Land Rovers were popular too, but the locals drove their cars until they broke, and the Toyotas didn't break. They did well across the rest of Africa, and that's one heck of a big proving ground for an off-roader. I think they had a solid reputation in Australia, as well. Both countries are notorious for everyday roads, terrain and conditions that destroy cars, so whatever the Land Cruiser looks like and whatever it costs, it's sure to sell well.
As a Kenyan I can confirm this ,alot of Kenyans also own land cruiser old to new model spare parts are not hard to come by and most Kenyans grow up knowing it's the brand to get for everything

If you wanted to move passengers/goods, you could only do that with a vehicle like a Land Cruiser. As Bali developed and roads got built the need diminished. He now drives a Honda Jazz 😉👍
The best thing about this Land Cruiser is that it’s not too off-road oriented like the Bronco, Jeep Wrangler or Jimny and it’s not too soft like many modern SUVs. It’s like a suitable package for both going shopping and going off-road
@nomenclature9607465 only momentarily, which is why it can only tow 6k. It needs the batteries and engine to make that power, so it can only maintain that power for a short time. The engine alone makes 317ft lbs, which is not much for something that will likely weigh 5,500+lbs.
It may be good looking - but way smaller and less capable than LR Defender or Range Rover. The new LC is more “affordable” which is the real Toyota selling point here.
I love it. I drive a 2006 LC3 which I still think looks awesome and I haven’t upgraded it because until now there was nothing out there I preferred. And I’m including the more recent shape in that because I think they spoiled it; with the larger body and flush arches the wheels look kind of “tucked in” like a bus, and the smaller grille adds to the nondescript image. A 4x4 needs to look bold and rugged for me, and the earlier LC3 ticked that box with the sculpted wide arches and aggressive grille layout. This new J250 definitely fits that bill. Whatever the new price will be, it will be a good investment because these trucks not only go forever (I’m on 300k miles and going strong) they also have a timeless look, especially this new one. So depending on what our Eco-obsessed government decides to do, and depending on whether the hybrid version will be available, this could be the last vehicle you need to buy for a very, very long time.
The 300 series is sold in the US as a Lexus LX600. The Toyota model was, from the 80 to 200 series, almost as expensive as the Lexus version and was only offered with luxury trim, and then typically had accessories added by the importer, bringing it to the point where it was very pricey. Sales slumped as a result. I think Toyota made the right decision to bring the 300 only as a Lexus and then offer us this improvement over the Prado, which we only ever got as a Lexus GX. The 2024 GX differs from this vehicle you're reviewing in that it brings you the 3.4 liter twin turbo, which has 40 fewer hp than the 3.5 liter in the Tundra product here and the same torque. So if you want a V6 here, you'll need to buy the Lexus and if you are fine with the high tech I4 you would just get the Toyota version which has slightly less power. Interestingly, the GX version will tow up to 8000 lbs. I take all of this to mean that Toyota is getting serious about taking on Ford and its fast-selling Bronco. Let the games begin!
Sadly the Lexus LX600 is not really meant for off roading. The approach and departure angles are severely diminished by the Lexus trim. The real solution would have been to offer the LC300 in a more minimalist version for a lower price, let the luxe crowd buy the Lexus. I guess the new Sequoia might be the answer. It's available in TRD Pro trim, and has a solid rear axle. The thing I see missing from the equation in the new generation of 4x4 SUVs is the lack of fold flat seats in the cargo area. I don't want or need 3 rows of seats, but I do want to be able to sleep and have my doggies on my adventures on or off road .
I love the boxy designs coming back to SUV's! These look so good! That being said, I'd probably take a 4Runner over one of these just because of cost...
Wonder if the all wheel drive setting means all 4 wheels have traction all the time or it dynamically switches to rear wheel drive only and then 4 wheel drive when it senses it needs reaction. For me personally keen to get something that has 4 wheel drive in the wet.
I own the toyota LC300 middle east edition in twin turbo edition and its spectacular and the best selling car since its launch in 2022, excited to see how the new LC250 will be once its available
It is good to see a return to more practical boxy shapes for 4x4 vehicles. As a Discovery 5 owner, I really hope that Land Rover get the hint and that the successor (Discovery 6?) returns to a styling reminiscent of the Discovery 4. Toyota have done really well with the design of the Prado and the 70 series and as all three Land Cruiser variants will now be available here in Japan. The until now very boring Japanese 4x4 market has suddenly become far more interesting. Even the Mitsubishi Triton is making a return to Japan although due to anal Japanese regulations, it is a hard buy because of the humongous running costs involved in owning a '1 number' (commercial vehicle designation on number plate) vehicle is not practical for most. Mitsubishi need to bring out a new Pajero which would be a '3 number' designation and far, far cheaper to own.
Overall the car really looks like a Rolls Royce Cullinan but in a very nice way. It has the mix of retro and modern looking design with that boxy shape and considering a land cruiser it has great road presence and a good off-roader (considering it's history).
@@elibrownstone 100% it does. I think often that happens after they pull out of the market and people realise how good something is but it's gone. Just like the full sized LandCruiser. Nobody was buying them but after it's gone, everyone is sad.

Woah that looks awesome with both types of the headlights! I'm not an off-roader person but damn I like how these look. Great job, Toyota
It looks absolutely outstanding but this is the more offroad version, It will be interesting how the luxurious one will look
Well this one looked different.
Goodbye Defender resale 😂😂😂
6:54 This means that maybe soon it will be available also as 3 doors right?
The best thing about this Land Cruiser is that it’s not too off-road oriented like the Bronco, Jeep Wrangler or Jimny and it’s not too soft like many modern SUVs. It’s like a suitable package for both going shopping and going off-road
My ‘94 Land Cruiser got a 4.2L straight 6 engine. This is nothing compared to that. Old days were good.
It's not old like the old one! MERRH!!
@nomenclature9607465 only momentarily, which is why it can only tow 6k. It needs the batteries and engine to make that power, so it can only maintain that power for a short time. The engine alone makes 317ft lbs, which is not much for something that will likely weigh 5,500+lbs.
The 1HZ motor will never pass emissions in European and American countries
Always loved Land Cruiser's. Would have this in a heartbeat.
Stunning Design In And Out👍
Good Job Toyota!
Absolutely Legendary Vehicle 👏
Yes, they didnt let us down, awesome new LC, love it
Awesome design❤
Love the look, might get this after test driving it.
I WOULD TAKE THIS OVER ANY LAND ROVER OR RANGE ROVER. THIS IS GORGEOUS
It may be good looking - but way smaller and less capable than LR Defender or Range Rover. The new LC is more “affordable” which is the real Toyota selling point here.
The best design ever! ❤❤❤❤❤
Love the look of the new Land Cruiser. Toyota reliability and longevity
This design ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It looks like a Lego Landcruiser, I like it, finaly Toyota got their design sh*t together👍
Body-on-frame. Back to the future....fantastic !
I’m already so in love with the design
The front looks a bit like the FJ and I'm into it.
The Prado comes from the elite Toyota 'Land Cruiser' dna breed; it's a much, much better car and the price justifies it.
Land Rovers of pieces of crap don't compare them to land Cruisers
R.I.P. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 😔
Beautiful real offroad legend car.
Toyota, best ❤️
Most probably the hybrid version will be the the 4th Toyota that I've owned 😋 been waiting for her for a looong time 😊she's a classy old lady 🥰
They've nailed the design, looks fantastic
Overall the car really looks like a Rolls Royce Cullinan but in a very nice way. It has the mix of retro and modern looking design with that boxy shape and considering a land cruiser it has great road presence and a good off-roader (considering it's history).
Hope they'll revive the FJ Cruiser
The original FJ Cruiser sold pretty poorly in most markets. Great offroader but compromised family hauler. The Prado makes a better case I think.
@@ProductofNZ I feel like it's gotten a cult following though. But yea, you're probably right
@@elibrownstone 100% it does. I think often that happens after they pull out of the market and people realise how good something is but it's gone. Just like the full sized LandCruiser. Nobody was buying them but after it's gone, everyone is sad.
Love it they still make a 2 door would be awesome
Does it come with mounts for a 50 cal?
Looks Awesome🌟👌
It looks fantastic.
Actually surprisingly nice and refreshing design from the Prado. Although with circular headlights it looks too much like a Defender
Nope, it looks like the older Land Cruisers... no need to mention the Defender name
@@Nickoboss29 the round headlights on a Land Land Cruiser haven’t been a thing for over 30 years so I think many younger people would rather associate it with something more recent like a Defender, in addition to the similar bulky design of the entire vehicle.
Oh It’s the new FJ Cruiser with more trunk space 🌚
looks great now that you've made a review about it. you just have a way of making cars look beautiful
Why did the completely destroy the rear end?
Why isn't the rear screen window wiper tucked away safely under the rear spoiler?
What's with the rear dogem' bumper car lights?
It horrendous from behind.
The off road suv king 👑 is back
मुझे तो यह गाड़ी रोल्स रॉयस कल्लिनान जैसी लगी पता नहीं क्यों।😅😅
The land cruiser is such a classic
