Bought a Mazda CX 5 for 38k. I have real dual exhausts, a decent 2.5 ltr NA petrol engine, real buttons for everything and a brilliant dial for using the touch screen. I see these 80K cars with really sad interiors and I feel grateful for what I have.
Same. I bought a 20 year old Mercedes E500. I have heated memory seats, self-dimming mirrors, 4-zone climate control, real leather and real wood interior. It's got all the comfort you need and gets 0-100 kmh in 6 seconds. I paid 9k Euros including some repairs and maintenance.
For some reason the German premium manufacturers (Mercedes, BMW, Audi) are saving more and more on the interior and charging more money for their cars... the interior is now really full of hard plastic in all three
The quality of this car is shocking, it’s happening to all modern cars though and I don’t understand why no one’s making more of a fuss about it. Since when did 80k give you a budget interior. My 11 year old V40 has much nicer materials than this car and it did not cost nearly 80k when it was new
I was going to say! I have a 2013 V40, and only the lower part of the doors are scratchy plastic, which is to be expected of a car of that price! The rest of the interior has high-quality soft-touch plastics, metal, and leather.
Its like car manufacturers and all big corporations are doing it on purpose to see how much they can get away with, how stupid the public are before they stop buying.
Since all the governments of the world spend billions of dollars they don't have on Covid. It's called inflation. The same turkey I used to buy in the grocery store just 4 years ago went 9.99 lb to 16.99. Why would cars be so different. Are car enthusiasts living in a cave or something?
V40 gang salute! I hate voice controls and ipad type screens controlling everything. That Volvo is doing it with the EX30 made me side eye Volvo for trying that "minimalist" cost cutting crap.
@ Wasn’t expecting other V40 owners to be honest but I absolutely adore mine, I can deal with big screens. I’d rather have buttons for climate and things but what I CANNOT STAND is the removing the drivers display and putting in the corner of the central screen so you have to take your eyes off the road to look how fast you’re going and it would be sort of acceptable if the cars that don’t have the gauges/screen had a heads up display but they don’t because that also costs money. And the 2 window switches for 4 windows blows my mind.
There is no excuse for that interior for a car of this price. It’s way below the quality of a new Kia. It’s shocking how manufacturers have messed up so much with new cars.
They presumably already fired everyone in the exterior design department, judging by the designs over the last couple of years. So they probably are now going for the interior design team...

I have to be honest that Porsche have also made some cost cutting on certain parts of the cabin being cheap plastic. The design overall is far more practical than the BMW with all your driving modes, full beam, cruise control and much more all on the steering wheel or stalks including all the drivers display modes easily selectable and logical with clear info etc. from superbly ergonomically controls as the price should allow, so why save those few parts in cheap plastic that places doubt on overall build quality. The german brands are actually losing the plot. They think their badges are gonna sell their shite cars. They're in for a shock, especially with an economy that's more money conscious than ever before.

@@boldbeam4534 If we're talking about Asia, Japan in general has always made better and more reliable cars (well... maybe except for Nissan who have had quite a few quality issues the last decade or 2). The others like South-Korea and China have definitely caught up with the German brands at this point as well.
I remember watching a video when this car was revealed earlier this year and they had one of the interior designers on and he said they wish they could have removed more on the interior for cleaner lines. 🤕
What makes you think the design teams haven't been laid off for years? It's the first thing I would think has happened, judging by BMWs output in the last few years.
Quality aside.. I was really surprised to see the crucial functionality like high beam and cruise control moved to the screen as an option to select there. I mean I honestly can’t imagine doing 90mph, overtaking and trying to change the cruise control settings on the touch screen. Madness.
The idrive 9 system and the drop in interior quality is the reason I’ve just gone for the outgoing G01 version of the X3. I had the current X1 and the infotainment system was buggy as hell and generally poorly thought out. Yes, I know going back to idrive 7 is a retrogressive step, but… BUTTONS! Change the temperature? There’s a button for that! Change driving mode? There’s a button that! Change the adaptive cruise control distance? Yep, there’s a button for that too. I hope BMW take the (deserved) criticism regarding their UX on board and rethink their software. The cost cutting? I think that’s here to stay, sadly.
My 2023 X3 M40i MHEV has a higher quality interior, buttons where you’d expect buttons, easy to operate infotainment system, a pan roof you can actually open, and exactly the same performance. And in my opinion, looks better outside too. So we have to wonder what BMW thought would entice new customers or existing owners to buy this? Thank you BMW, you’ve just increased the residual value of my car 😀
I don’t know what BMW are thinking the last two years. My G20 is a 2023, it’s from just last year, but I echo your experience - even tho some very minor cost-cutting was creeping in (the door panel felt liner omission for instance) it is noticeably better quality and retains more buttons. This x3 is shocking. I know these models have been in the works for a while and it’s not easy to change course immediately, but I hope our repeated criticisms are soon heeded.
A had a look a X3 2.0 petrol in my local BMW dealership. Although well equipped it didn’t look or feel like a premium product. Too many vast areas in the interior with nothing in them. Also the fabric covering will be a nightmare to keep clean or to clean if it gets dirty. However the price was an eye watering £67,750.00. I just couldn’t justify spending the thick end of £70K for a 2.0 litre X3 regardless of the high levels of equipment. If the target audience for this vehicle is those looking for a mid range SUV then BMW really do need to look at their pricing structure. £70K is dangerously over priced and will price most out of their budget. I understand the starting price of range is approximately £48K but cheap materials and iffy design really do count against any purchase I may have made.
@ one of the issues with car prices is that the car companies can’t make money on EV cars due to the lack of public interest. On top of that the EU have levied €15K fine for every electric vehicle below the annual units sold per annum target. The car companies can’t afford to carry on like this and this statement is backed up by the news that VW are closing car plants, car prices are rocketing, Jaguar have gone into meltdown, Europe are importing cheap electric vehicles from China (MG, BYD etc) which isn’t helping the European car manufacturers but Germany in particular. In America Ford can’t sell the electric pick up trucks (which has a massive market share in the US) and there are stockpiles of unwanted but pre-registered electric lying all over the place.
@Cheersbigears66 So the manufacturers are just adding Eur15k onto the retail price of ICE vehicles and as per usual it's the customer/tax payer who pays for government follies.
@@tommytraddles I couldn’t say for sure that that is what they are doing but the car companies have to recoup their losses from someone. EV cars are hugely expensive and depreciation is a major factor to consider when making your purchase which is one of the many reasons ‘Joe public’ is not buying them. Companies buy them because of the grants and subsidies handed down to encourage the switch from Diesel/ Petrol cars over to EV but once that ends who knows….cheap Chinese imports???
The shareholder value really shows in all new BMW interiors. I sat in a new 5 series yesterday and the interior look and feel is a significant step down from the previous generation and even from my 2015 F11 5-series.
As a BMW owner, it saddens me how it's truly incredible how BMW have departed from their winning recipe: 1) quality of interior - from Excellent to sub-Kia 2) UX and interface - from duplicity, even triplicity (them and Mazda were lauded to have still buttons) to nonsensical touchscreen 3) Ethos & feel of the car - from ultimate driving machine, to run-of the-mill 4) design - from athletic, muscular, to unremarkable But the prices, obviously, increased more than inflation. And VW, Audi - even worse... Someone has already said it here below - we look on with gaping open mouths at what the hell he Germans are doing these last years...
Driving in a rain I may need to enlarge adaptive cruise control distance quickly. In X3 such simple operation is dangerous ! For example in Toyota it is one click on steering wheel.
I specifically bought my G31 5 series because it was one of the last holdouts that provided physical controls for everything. It has a touchscreen but it's completely optional as you can just use the iDrive controller. The price for it when new was also equal to a G45 X3 but it's a bigger car with better build quality, better materials and more luxurious features. Given the way that all modern cars are going, I think I'm going to hold onto this one until it literally falls apart.
I wanted to get one of these for my mother but the 2 litre entry level version. After i introduced her to the infotainment system, she completely rejected the product, calling it too complex for her to operate while driving. Lost sale.
As a driver of the previous generation, there is soft touch everywhere including down low on the doors. The new 5 series has a cheap looking interior as well. BMW is throwing in cheaper materials and hoping people will think it’s part of the futuristic design
4:53 what's up with all those horrible hard plastic materials?? that used to be one of the main reasons a more expensive higher end car was worth it and felt like a high end product. that just looks like a regular old seat or something. wth bmw?! awful, almost more like a prototype than a production model!!
As an owner of the previous gen X3 I fully agree. The new X3 feels cheap in comparison - that’s a shameful adjective for a premium car brand. I had to upgrade to X5 to avoid this mediocrity. Maybe that is BMW’s plan for this gen - force everyone to more expensive (and still premium) X5.
@@somedudewithakeyboard that honestly wouldn't surprise me, one of the main driving forces in companies seem to always be to try and force as many as possible to upgrade to a more expensive version
Nice. We can NOT use mobile phone while driving - but at the same time - there is a LOT of digital screens on dashbord ... That is totally normal. It si OK - to have screens EVERYWHERE - like NASA center vhen the launch rocker on Mars
Absolutely agree, sit in front of two big screens at work, stare at your mobile most if the time, watching TV at home, nowadays they make u ring up your food at fast food restaurants with a big screen, buy your own movie tickets on a screen, the list goes on and on... And then u get in your car...😂..screens screens screens. Driving an older car with no LCD screens at all is like a detox for the eyes
Manufacturers get a £15,000 fine for every ICE vehicle sold over and above a set percentage. Due to EV's not selling well this is a big fear for them. How do they cope? Take costs out of the interior etc. and increase the price so that the consumer pays the £15k. Now if there is an about-turn by the powers that be and this ratio is made more achievable the manufacturers will be rubbing their hands with the £15k extra profit on the cars and will then maintain that price going forward. The only answer is to not buy a new car for as long as possible!!
Chinese cars are shit. Beyond the fancy touchscreens and the disgusting fake leathers you mentioned, they can’t even do proper welding on the chassis. Wheels might fall off. Don’t believe me? Look at the Chery Omoda 5.
For years one of the main reasons I chose BMW over rivals (aside from the drive quality) was the interiors were just nicer. My last M540 (2020 year model) would still get comments 4 years later about how nice the interior was, whereas this looks like a low-spec VW from the early noughties. BMW F10 interior from 14 years ago have nicer quality materials than the new G60.
Why is it that car manufacturer simply DON'T listen to what people want,??? We want knobs for temperature and volume settings. And we don't want knobs designing the usability ergonomics ;)

Knobs cost more money.

Interior is shockingly low rent. And you can't do basic things like high beam and cruise control distance without going through multiple screen menus? What a fail
It's misleading... High beam is still on the stock, option shown on the video is for AUTO high beams... Still dumb to be buried in a menu, but not something that's frequently used.

The CX-5 is THE best value car you can buy in the small-mediumish SUV segment, nothing else comes close to it.
Genau wie beim 6er 💪🏻

"This new BMW X3 has a BIG problem"
I agree. The problem is that it's a new BMW X3.
First Audi then Mercedes and now BMW, all three German brands have started cheapening out on their interiors
Not a _shortlist_ for anyone other than Matt, I am sorry, this is a _consider_ or _avoid_ car.
I think that’s here to stay, sadly.
g01 is the best of every world, I love it. Simple infotainment, buttons, premium interior feel, solid materials, etc. New one is so empty and cheap.
16:13 i miss the times matt was remembering all the cars stats 😢
Dammit BMW, what are they thinking with these designs?!
Am I the only one who thinks this car is hideous? Especially from the back
My 2023 X3 M40i MHEV has a higher quality interior, buttons where you’d expect buttons, easy to operate infotainment system, a pan roof you can actually open, and exactly the same performance.
This looks like a huge own goal by BMW. Nobody wants one if these comments are anything to go by.

FISTABLE door mirrors? , you've got to love your BM
As a BMW owner, it saddens me how it's truly incredible how BMW have departed from their winning recipe:
1) quality of interior - from Excellent to sub-Kia
2) UX and interface - from duplicity, even triplicity (them and Mazda were lauded to have still buttons) to nonsensical touchscreen
3) Ethos & feel of the car - from ultimate driving machine, to run-of the-mill
4) design - from athletic, muscular, to unremarkable
But the prices, obviously, increased more than inflation.

It's because of energy prices in Germany, makes the cost of manufacturing more expensive and drives their prices up.

Back in the day the newer model versions were a marked improvement in many areas, now they are just getting worse in many areas....
