Thing is most of the air probably goes into the "mouth grill" beneath. Its mouth hole is big enough to fit your head through and there are 2 radiators. One in the usual place and one that's placed perpendicular below the usual radiator. I find it weird that they couldn't make it work the kidney grill instead.
I had the last year run 3.8 e34 before buying the e39 m5 in 2002. The e34 had the looks but struggled elsewhere. I loved the e39, but other than being ideally sized, it is not a patch on my current f90.
I’m in the privileged position to own an F10 LCI as my daily. It’s amazing. So subtle and understated. It’s a joy to get in it every time, always puts a smile on my face.

Before watching the video i want to answer the title of the video 1. It's heavy af 2. It's hybrid 3. It looks like a car from GTA that tries to imitate a BMW Yes its fast, yes its powerful, yes it would smoke most production 4 door sedans. But speed and power isn't everything. The Tesla Plaid would smoke just about any other production ICE car, but a lot of car enthusiasts would prefer an ICE car regardless of how much slower it is

Thanks for the honest review Mat, don't think we've really had one thats been so truthful since this one. As a 3 time F90 M5 driver I was very disappointed with the initial views of the new M5, however I must admit when I saw it in the flesh at a dealership it looked a bit better than expected. Having said that I'm still going to keep my F90 for the moment, more than happy with it and your review has made me realise that in truth I don't think I can get a new M5 that out performs my one, not just for pure acceleration but the overall experience. 618 at the wheels is still really good considering the power figures are engine dyno power figures. So 625 crank with all ancillaries and 618 wheel is actually very good
0-60mph is meaningless with these 4wd, auto box clones. My bog standard Golf R 7.5 estate did 4.1. At this level, it's just a function of traction. What is shocking about this boat is having 774bhp and still taking 7.5s to get to 100mph.

I would even go as far as calling the G90 off-putting to look at.
If you think that is bad, wait until they need to be replaced! Porsche carbon ceramic brakes cost like $20K for four rotors and pads. Getting these as an option is always WAY cheaper than the parts.
I grew up with a dad who drove 5 series BMW's and various Audi cars. This influence sparked a passion for German cars that I have held til this day. Now 53 and I must say that, to me it seems like these manufacturers are all in a race to get somewhere that I have no interest in going.
Here's my main gripes with the M5 and 5 Series in general: - Those plastic kidneys. I understand they had to squeeze in sensors and whatnot in there, but you have these big swathes of black plastic with only small actual intakes lower down that just look like holes. No vertical or horizontal streaks or mesh, just two holes. It looks silly, and doesn't belong on a premium BMW. - The rear lights. If you removed the badging, sent the car back 5 years and asked people to have a guess at what brand of car it is, I doubt many people would've guessed BMW. It's generic. - The many sharp lines everywhere, and this is specific to the M5. It's not cohesive, and it doesn't flow with the rest of the car's styling. - EDIT: Oh yes, those rear fenders where they meet the rear doors are atrocious. They should've built in the widening into the doors, but obviously, the BMW beancounters won that argument, and it shows. Other than that, it's just another of the new breed of hybrid-lite super-saloon.

Like every manufacturer, B;W tries to save money wherever possible, but in return sell the car for even more money. In other words, the buyer gets cheaper processing. For me the F90 LCI is the perfect M5, design is great, performance is more than sufficient. I think the value of an F90 LCI will skyrocket in the future.

Unfortunately, the Dyno correction was made according to DIN 70020 and not according to EWG as is usual for modern cars. So the final result was a little higher than it should have been.
I have a 2008 bespoke stroked 5.8L NA E60 M5 with every OEM+ upgrade pretty much possible, the pure visceral experience with the SMG S6 shift modes and sound is what in my view these cars are all about, performance is off the charts, the Bangle design is aging extremely well again in my view…I’ll never make the move to the newer M5 platforms
Regarding the amount of modes, I don’t think more choices are bad. Set it up the way you want it and away you go. You even have two programmable M buttons. It’s not as if you have to go through all the modes every time you get in and drive the car.
All the “BMW had to…” is what people hate about the new M5 and the new AMGs. Because they didn’t have to hybridize their performance modells. They chose to do so..

It doesn't look as good as previous gen, it may grow on people over time, and facelift may improve it but generally people don't like it's looks. It's extremely heavy for a sports sedan. It's a hybrid, i think most people are fine with that but to some it's a turn off Interior quality is subpar and it's ridiculous to be that bad on supposedly luxury car, leather is plasticy, the screen looks like it's going to fall off in a year it's shaking so much, stitching is all crooked, bad quality materials on the dash, bad build quality, ffs I've seen models with couple k on them where the roofing is detaching already. And lastly ridiculous price for what you get, Yeah it's faster than last one but everything else is inferior. That's why people don't like this m5
The dyno numbers must be wrong tho, don't electric motors not loose power because there is no crankshaft and it goes directly to the wheels? So only 600 of the 720hp should have the additional 18% or whatever it was to make up for power loss to the wheels
You cannot assume transmission losses 15% in an hybrid car. Moreover the 15% loss was acceptable in late 90s and early 2000s. You should dyno the flywheel power
So never driven an electric but one of the fun things about my xk is the power comes in after 3000rpm it kinda comes alive , the whole thing has character that makes it fun to drive hard and calm and gentle to just drive about it

There's no traction. It can be a 3 sec, 10.8 sec car if it grips but it's spinning like crazy. The power to grip ratio is way off.

I grew up with a dad who drove 5 series BMW's and various Audi cars. This influence sparked a passion for German cars that I have held til this day. Now 53 and I must say that, to me it seems like these manufacturers are all in a race to get somewhere that I have no interest in going.

Performance wise
2021 M5 competition 0-60 - 2.9 sec (it was 2021 M5 competition, recorded on carwow m5 review)
Quater mile - 11.2 sec (carwow drag race)
775hp on tap and likely can't beat 3.7secs 0-62 is not earth shattering though, is it?

Here's my main gripes with the M5 and 5 Series in general:
- Those plastic kidneys. I understand they had to squeeze in sensors and whatnot in there, but you have these big swathes of black plastic with only small actual intakes lower down that just look like holes. No vertical or horizontal streaks or mesh, just two holes. It looks silly, and doesn't belong on a premium BMW.
- The rear lights. If you removed the badging, sent the car back 5 years and asked people to have a guess at what brand of car it is, I doubt many people would've guessed BMW. It's generic.
- The many sharp lines everywhere, and this is specific to the M5. It's not cohesive, and it doesn't flow with the rest of the car's styling.
- EDIT: Oh yes, those rear fenders where they meet the rear doors are atrocious. They should've built in the widening into the doors, but obviously, the BMW beancounters won that argument, and it shows.
Other than that, it's just another of the new breed of hybrid-lite super-saloon.
This is the only ICE car that makes me hate more than the Tesla , cause of how it looks and weights

Power in nothing without control. Drag race and acceleration means nothing. A good car is measured on different indicators.
Like every manufacturer, B;W tries to save money wherever possible, but in return sell the car for even more money. In other words, the buyer gets cheaper processing. For me the F90 LCI is the perfect M5, design is great, performance is more than sufficient. I think the value of an F90 LCI will skyrocket in the future.

Unfortunately, the Dyno correction was made according to DIN 70020 and not according to EWG as is usual for modern cars.
So the final result was a little higher than it should have been.

I have a 2008 bespoke stroked 5.8L NA E60 M5 with every OEM+ upgrade pretty much possible, the pure visceral experience with the SMG S6 shift modes and sound is what in my view these cars are all about, performance is off the charts, the Bangle design is aging extremely well again in my view…I’ll never make the move to the newer M5 platforms

My only gripe, I don’t like that solid black cladding in the grill. They should really just mesh it out and put whatever sensors they want elsewhere.
Regarding the amount of modes, I don’t think more choices are bad. Set it up the way you want it and away you go. You even have two programmable M buttons. It’s not as if you have to go through all the modes every time you get in and drive the car.
All the “BMW had to…” is what people hate about the new M5 and the new AMGs. Because they didn’t have to hybridize their performance modells. They chose to do so..
The same people complaining about the m5 weight weren't going to buy the car anyway

It doesn't look as good as previous gen, it may grow on people over time, and facelift may improve it but generally people don't like it's looks.
It's extremely heavy for a sports sedan.
It's a hybrid, i think most people are fine with that but to some it's a turn off
Interior quality is subpar and it's ridiculous to be that bad on supposedly luxury car, leather is plasticy, the screen looks like it's going to fall off in a year it's shaking so much, stitching is all crooked, bad quality materials on the dash, bad build quality, ffs I've seen models with couple k on them where the roofing is detaching already.
And lastly ridiculous price for what you get,

The dyno numbers must be wrong tho, don't electric motors not loose power because there is no crankshaft and it goes directly to the wheels? So only 600 of the 720hp should have the additional 18% or whatever it was to make up for power loss to the wheels
Yes. At this point cars should be just dynoed with the wheel hp. Everyone just adds different numbers and it’s virtually never consistent

You cannot assume transmission losses 15% in an hybrid car. Moreover the 15% loss was acceptable in late 90s and early 2000s. You should dyno the flywheel power
So never driven an electric but one of the fun things about my xk is the power comes in after 3000rpm it kinda comes alive , the whole thing has character that makes it fun to drive hard and calm and gentle to just drive about it
