    One feature that separates the GM twins and is rarely talked about in depth is that the GM trucks have the full time 4WD setting. For many people who experience mixed snow/ice/wet pavement on road driving conditions , the auto 4x4 setting can be a valuable asset on a daily driver.

    I've gone to the dealer and looked at most of these. I came so close to pulling the trigger on the Canyon, but I have so many reservations about GM quality lately. I found out the reason I couldn't find any Canyons on the lot was because GM had put a stop on all of them recently to fix more software issues. For 50k+, there shouldn't be so many reports of transmission and software issues all over the place. There are incentives everywhere I look on full size trucks, to the extent that you can find a similarly equipped one for less than mid-size! But, having owned a 2019 Silverado before, full size is simply too much truck for my uses. Too big and too bulky for me. I guess I'll just keep my current vehicle for the time being and wait to see if prices come down and reliability issues stop being such an issue.

  • @TPowell12
    @TPowell12 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    Great and fair review. I usually like the Tacoma most but the Ranger seems to be the best value. Toyota significantly increased the price on this gen. However I wish Ford used the gen 2 2.3 ecoboost (with dual injection) like Toyota does with their D4S system to prevent carbon buildup. The Tacoma having TSS and composite bed are very nice standard equipment as well.
    Colorado/canyon are having way too many quality issues and GM has a poor reliability record over the last 15 years.

    I like the slick bed of the taco. Ultra gritty rhino lining is a pain in the as* to slide things across. I can always strap items down. But most of the time I’m sliding items in and out. With no line X gritty texture, I don’t have to climb into the bed and lift things out most of the time.

    Stephen, once again, this video demonstrates Truck King’s expertise and real world dominance of truck testing and knowledge. Loved this video. I am buying at the end of 2024. Thank you for not sharing the BS of max payload that means nothing for real world trucks. Payload is important for me in terms of towing a camper (tongue weight) and hauling camping gear. I am not brand loyal, but have just about eliminated the Tacoma and Frontier from my list due to insufficient payload. I want about 1,500 lbs. To be honest, I prefer the styling of the GM twins, particularly the Canyon. I also like the AWD feature on the GM twins. However, I think the Ranger makes a compelling case in terms of function. Personally, the exterior styling is a bit pedestrian, but I like the interior. The Ridgeline and Gladiator (Sport S optioned for towing) are on my list as well assuming 1500 lbs of payload. Price will probably be the deciding factor.

The Chevy with its raised Trail Boss and 1 inch higher on top of that…the ZR2 which has the best ground clearance. And by the way since it’s raised you can buy bigger tires that will still fit with the factory lift. The Raptor is raised with awesome tires but the Tacoma lags far behind them

    With everything considered, I'd say the best all-around mid-size is the Canyon AT4. Great base options and even better equipped well. The Taco is the best choice for the single guy who wants a lifestyle truck to go off-roading and the aftermarket will have endless bolt-ons made for it. The Colorado ZR2 is easily the best value in off-road factory machine. All the Ranger has is big payload, wide bed and a comfortable backseat....If I wanted all that, I'd buy an F-150. It even has the plain, work truck look. Sadly, it does nothing to push me from a full-size like the others do.

    I don't like the Tacoma at all, especially the dash which looks cheesy to me with how the infotainment screen is mounted.
    I like both the Colorado and the Ranger, and I found mostly minor trade-offs between the two. However, to get a comparably equipped Colorado LT to the Ranger XLT, you have to add a number of packages which can quickly push the price of the Colorado past that of the Ranger especially if you select Convenience Package III for the Chevy which forces you to upgrade to leather seats. I prefer cloth seats.
    The big price jump for the Ranger is from the XLT to the Lariat trim which comes with leather seats. But then gives you some extras the Colorado doesn't have such as tracking LED projector headlights and zone lighting. And by simply upgrading the Ranger XLT to the XLT High Package, you get a power sliding rear window and adaptive cruiser control with a 12" infortaintment screen. The Colorado doesn't offer a power sliding rear window at any trim level.
    The Colorado only offers a black interior, while the Ranger has an optional sandstone (tan) interior. And the front passenger seat in the Colorado is 4 way manual adjustment only at all trim levels with no height adjustment. The Ranger has both a manual or power 8 way adjustable front passenger seat with height adjustment. Which is why I went with the Ranger.
