    I basically lived this scenario out in real life the last few weeks. I test drove all, and ended up with a Frontier P4X. It did boil down to the Nissan and Canyon AT4. I just could not pull the trigger on the Canyon with the amount of infotainment gremlins those guys are seeming to have, amongst other little issues. I’m sure it will continued to get ironed out, but with the Frontier in model year 3, it just feels more sorted. The value is also hard to beat. Sticker was 48.6k (1.8k dealer bs tint and door guards, etc add on) and went OTD for 43.9k. Love it so far!

    From what I'm seeing on the 23 Colorado, it has nothing but problems and they aren't being fixed fast at all. The 19 and 20 models were also full of problems, based on my experience and people I know.
    The new Tacoma seems unreliable so far. Gladiator is cool but costs more and I don't live offroad so it's probably too rough of a ride. Ranger and Frontier are the ones I'd look at, but not having the Tremor for 24 kinda ruins the Ranger for me. The Frontier seems like the way to go at this point.
    Honestly I think the best bet is to wait maybe a couple years and see where all the models look then. Or just buy something used for far far less than these $45k+ things..

      Frontier is a solid option. Have 2 reviews on it already and actually just made one today on the new 24 frontier hard body edition that I will post In a week or so. With that said I'd personally trust the new colorado more than the new ranger. For is notorious for not having parts available for new models for a very long time and fors has lead all manufacturers with 30 plus recalls a year for last 3 years. Just food for thought and my opinion between the 2.

      Fair enough. I've never driven the Ranger but my experiences with Colorados are not good. A truck with a V6 also is much more interesting. I was just in this market a month ago. Turning in a 2021 Trd Off-Road Tacoma coming off of lease; I went through all the same gyrations and easily decided on the Nissan Pro4X.
    Was originally planning on a Tacoma, but a comparable vehicle to what I had was over $55,000 and so it was immediately out of consideration. Same as you said.
    The Colorado was also very nice and based on price alone it was competitive but it does not lease well. The payments were quite high because the residual was very low. A Z71 residual was only $28.000. Plus I wanted something more off-road focused. The trail boss has no amenities and the ZR2 is way too expensive and also has a poor residual.
    My Tacoma was $45,000 with a $37,600 residual; Z71 was about $47,000 with a $28,000 residual ZR2 had only a $33,000 residual.
    The Nissan I got with basically every option they have available; the sticker was 49,000 I got it for 47,000 and the residual on it is 36,000 so the payment on a lease was more reasonable. Being mostly work from home and having a second vehicle 10,000 miles a year is plenty sufficient and it doesn’t make sense to buy as the payments would be much higher.
    So based on price alone, if the Colorado features meet your needs and you want to buy, I would say it’s a tossup between that and the Frontier. If you’re going to lease, there was only one option.

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great information and very valuable Intel. For thpse not looking to lease that read this residual value is whats left on the vehicle after the lease payments that the lease owner can buy the vehicle for at the end of the lease. Doesn't have much meaning for resale value if you bought one new and then plan to sell it.

    Hey Samko, I love the video. I do have questions on some stuff u said in the video.
    1st: why do you favor the solid front axle so much? Sure it is more sealed off from the elements. It also decreases gas mpg (some), can’t articulate (because of the sway bar holding it), it also acts has an anchor when going through deep mud&ruts. Like you said, it also decreases the driving experience (for some). As far as reliability goes, modern IFS seems to be quiet durable and in a lot of this breaks less the a solid axle. (Before you guys jump onto me watch some of 4WD 24/7 TH-cam. These guys are in Australia and does hard wheeling. Yall can’t see just how good the IFS are when compared to the solid axles).
    2nd. Why do you said the PRO4x and Trail Boss are so close? The Colorado has about 1200lbs more towing and more payload that the frontier (I don’t remember the exact numbers). Towing and payload is usually a big reason for buyers to buy a truck. The Frontier is a last gen truck compared to the new gen truck. The Frontier has a lot less room in the cab,… . It just seems like it unfortunately gets beat in most every category.
    3rd(lastly). The shocks. The DSSV shocks are made for being abused and used. These shocks are supposed to be super reliable. I believe these shocks would last twice as long as more base types of shocks like the gladiator has.

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great questions!
      On the solid front axle it actually does articulate alot more than ifs, has way more travel than ifs, is much more robust than ifs. Off road a solid front axle is very hard to beat.
      The frontier may not tow as much, but it's proven super reliable and quality made. And it's a very capable truck that you can get for a lower than msrp price making it a great buy. That's what makes it a close comparison to the colorado.
      The dssv shocks are great shocks. But there are many people that have had problems with them blowing out way too early. And being a very expensive shock it's something I have to consider as some one that doesn't just offroad once or twice a month. I am in the crap for 200-300 miles a week every week. I hunt for a living. My income is all thru content creation for my hunting channel. This channel is my fun hobby.

      @ethannorton1560 I don't actually do "cool or worth watching off roading". My offloading is hundreds of miles down peanut butter mud swamp roads with alot of big holes in them. I have to drive them to get to my hunting spots (I make a living by hunting and making content for my hunting channel). And I seldom have time to set up cameras to do videos of it. But honestly is just boring mud and holes. But they sure are nasty.

    For me to get a similarly equipped ranger xlt vs the trailboss its almost $5k more. Thats with the base 2.3l engine instead of the bigger 2.7l.
    At that point i can get a similarly equipped gmc canyon with a much nicer interior. To me the new ranger is DOA. The raptor is cool and all, but then.... Zr2.
    Ford has lost their mind on pricing. The only vehicle I'd consider (and did purchase) is the maverick, and even that is iffy now with the newest price increases. My xlt awd+luxury package was under $30k. That same set up is now closer to $34k. Which now youre close to Colorado trailboss money which is a much more capable truck.

    Worthwhile video. But personal tastes affect it also. I plan to buy a mid-size truck within the next 10 or 12 months, and expect to keep it maybe 15 years well into my retirement. I want to get a manual transmission -- had many of them in the 1980's and 1990's but haven't had manual in 20 years. Tacoma and Gladiator are the only options with manual. But everything I've seen is that reliability with Jeep under Stellantis is not good, and similarly for decades my opinion has been that General Motors quality is not good. So that leaves Tacoma for me - in either TRD Off-Road or basic "SR" trims If I didn't want a manual I would also consider the Frontier or Ranger. Another note for my lifestyle is that sometimes I need to drive decent freeway miles and my understanding is that the highway noise level on the Gladiator is a problem; so another reason for me not to go with Gladiator. Don't get me wrong - I am not against Jeeps, had a 1999 Wrangler and loved it, but the noise would get old if I cannot reasonably hear the stereo or phone calls at 60 mph.

However, as someone that knows way more than I should about trucks, my educated opinion is that right now (not 5, 10, 15 years ago) but right now. All trucks are equal in reliability. You can not buy a truck today and not expect it to have multiple recalls, multiple warranty work and multiple repair costs later. They just don't build them good anymore or to last. Toyotas reputation of quality long lasting trucks died with the 2021 tundra and the 23 tacoma. Whatever you buy I'd opt for an extended factory warranty today on all of them

      I know, I bought a gladiator. One of the ugliest trucks made😂 but man is it functional for me! And the looks ha e grown on me alot. I love it. But let's be honest for most people looks do come into play when buying a truck.

    I completely disagree with you. Ranger had the best ride; seats felt the best and I really liked how quiet it was at 75mph. Excellent tow ratings at 7500 and 1500 payload and rode the best. Largest rear seat and when you close the door it has a solid feel. My second choice was the GMC/Chevy. The Canyon to me had the best looks. The Frontier felt underwhelming, cheap and although the 6 was great for reliability and longevity it lacked the punch of the rest with no Turbo. I went to buy the Frontier due to all the incentives but was not impressed and felt like I was driving a 10 year old truck with terrible mechanical steering. The Toyota is overpriced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ranger XLT 2wd. 39k MSRP and 37k cost which was 500 under invoice pick it up Monday.

      The Ridgeline in my opinion is a big sub compact truck like a mav or snata cruise. It's not body on frame so I didn't include it. With that said. I watched a Ridgeline go through a flooded swamp road that hudrolocked a ram, ripped bumpers off a tundra and stalled a lifted silverado trailboss. Was hunting in south Carolina and road was completely flooded from river over flow. I drove about 1 miles down the 7 mile flooded road in my taxoma and stopped on a high spot after too many close calls in wash outs under the water. Sat there and watched those trucks all fail to go much farther as I ate my lunch. Then I put on waders and hiked into the swamp to hunt. 4 hours later I was 2 miles further down and popped out at the same flooded road. A guy in a Ridgeline with his radio blaring drove by me with father half way up his doors and a smile on his face. I was shocked. He made it 4 miles farther down that road than anyone else did.

And don’t get me started on that ridiculous rubber duck crap 😂🤦🏻‍♂️ The more I read and watch on the Tacoma, it’s a no go. I’m not paying those prices for an unproven drivetrain. If the ZR2 was offered in a 6ft bed, I’d be all over it. Can’t for the life of me understand a tiny box on a truck. Nissan, hmmmm, might have to give that one a look.

    If nissan woudl update their cameras, infotainment system, cluster, they would take my money. The driver seat is where you will spend all your time and I don't want to feel like I just dropped $45k on a vehicle that is 10 years old. Tacoma has a ways to go to prove itself and of course that price and dealer mandatory markups drop it off my list. Colorado/Canyon is getting over those new design issues and is well priced and that 430 ft lbs for towing is a big plus. Ranger is late to the game and the exterior is pretty bland. While the 2.3 has proven itself the 2.7 is the big draw to the ranger but besides its delay to market you have a big ? around fords notorious 10 speed trans issues and increase in overall recalls lately. Gladiator is no go for me. I have no faith in stellantis products and i am not a jeep guy in general. I am normally a ford guy and own 2 ecosports and a F250 but when I shop this summer to add a mid size its going to be between the '24 colorado Z71 and frontier Pro4X. I will see which one rides the best and which one is quietest/smoothest at highway speeds. If the colorado is noisey that might push me into the outdated nissan.

    • @Jason-Samko
