Thank you VERY much! I was waiting on the Wife to come downstairs so we could take her Lincoln MKX to the shop to pay a professional. Decided to hit TH-cam and watched this video. 10 minutes later I'd fixed my wife's car.
I laughed at the "popcorn" pieces. Then I went out to my car and saw the same "popcorn" pieces. I really appreciate the time you spent on this video. It solved my problem!
Excellent video!! Your video saved me some serious money. The replacement part is called a brake pedal bushing or a brake pedal stop pad in case anyone's wondering (I'm a woman, so I like to write down the name of any auto part that I have to pick up myself). I bought the universal kit for $6.50 at Advance Auto Parts and it took me less than 2 minutes to install it. Thank you, kind sir, and thank you, TH-cam. TH-cam is a frickin' godsend!!!!!
Went out for the 4th of July and came back to my car with the break lights on. Hot to the touch because they were on for so long. Drove home. Looked online and Google sent me to you. Watched your video and when you said look down to see if I see a broken clip and there it was. Thank you so much for this video. Now I know how to fix it
WOW! This is CRAZY that no other auto repair channels have this fix and I've seen over 100 issues with this exact problem in my search to discover why my Ford Fusion won't accelerate past 2500 RPM, Gives me a "Hill Start Assist Not Available" warning, and the brake lights won't turn off. This is such a handy fix. Thanks!
Man your video is the best of them all because you show the little piece you had to replace sitting on the floor of your car after it had fallen, and that's just how I found mine. At the time I hadn't watched your video yet and I had no idea what that piece was. I'm glad I saved it. And you saved me time and money, thank you!
Dorman Part number 74015 if you need to find this yourself. Also you can try Needa Parts Rubber Bumper Fasteners Part #456230, meant for exterior body panels but they are the right size for this brake pedal stopper fix too.
Thank you so much, by far, the simplest & clearest video in youtube explaining how to fix it the proper way. me and other youtubers appreciate your help A LOT.
I was trying too figure out the same reason. Why my break lights wouldn't turn off? Till I saw this helpful video. You saved me a lot of $$$ if I was to go to a company shop. Just for a little piece. Good video thx
So, This Morning the hubs comes all the way home and disconnected the battery and was going to take to repair shop when they opened. I found your video and wala! So I told him to put some folded up paper and then when he gets off work and the parts store is open he can pick up the $7 part!!! Instead of a huge repair bill!!!! lol, thank you for your video all this time later!!!!
Oh my goodness! Mahalo so much! Drove my friend to the airport in her car, got home and the brake light were still on...couldn't figure it out, next day battery dead...been a week and she gets home in a few days...I've been trippin, talk to her just about everyday and never mentioned it.lol. tomorrow. It will be fixed in the nick of time. MAHALOS AND Much aloha!♡♡♡
This was a life saver. I changed my brake light interceptor switch and couldn't figure out why the lights wouldn't go off after that. I bought this part from auto zone. All in all I spent $22 on something that was going to cost me close to $100 to fix.
Well I went to 3 different auto parts stores to finally find this piece and the guy says we've sold these all day what do they do lol ...thank you so much bro
My fiancé’s car is having this issue. We bought a whole new pedal because the car is old. He recently got into a car accident a month ago; he was rear ended. So with him pressing the brakes made it go out 😩 thank you.
Dude, LMAO When I first saw those pieces in your floor I thought I had tracked them in on my shoe, I certainly didn't think it was related to my brake lights stuck on. Bravo on the video, saved me $$$!!!
Man its night time right now for me, but i just happened to go outside and was like why the hell are my break lights on? i disconnected the battery, reconnected the battery checked to make sure i didn't leave the lights on, but im a big dude so i gotta wait til morning to see if this is the solution but it surely sounds like it is. My car is 18yrs old so its more than possible that piece wore away. unreal and amazing video. I will update you tomorrow. Still going to hit the like button.
And There it is' Just like you said 3 little pieces on the floor right under the brake pedal. put them back together like a puzzle and they make a perfect circular piece. Thanks once again for this video.
Hello. How do I remove the panel so I can access that part? Thank you so much for easing me with my worries knowing that the issue is with that and indeed I saw rubber on the floor.
So funny I looked down and there was the piece that broke off. Auto parts store doesn't have the part but thank you so much! Now I know which part I need.
Thanks man! They didn't have the piece at the store but I just put a small bolt and nut and it works great! Until I can find the part on eBay or something.
Omg..I woke up this morning and battery dead..got a boost and then check my alternator it wasnt my alternator killing my battery so what was? my tail/break lights would not go off...this video saved my life..lol..i fixed it mysejf just as you said...thanks so much!!! But I think im still getting a new battery
good day self preservation and nice work indeed. but my break light won't just turn off after put off the engine and all the lights i had to remove the battery head so it won't run down. HOW CAN I FIX IT?
I have a question - the Amazon kit came with a black thingamajig and a white thingamajig. I notice in the video you only use the black thingamajig. Can I throw the white one away, or does it have a use?
THANK YOU!!! I just had this problem rn in my KIA car :’) i think i have pressed the brakes to hard which led to the that white thing falling down HAHAHA
I just had this happen on my 2010 mustang, the brake lights won't go off. I did not see any little busted parts any where and the switches on the brake pedal both looked good. I disconnected the battery the first night I seen it. The next day I hooked the battery back up, the brake lights are off and everything appears to be ok so far. Strange but true.
Oh thank you for this! I was panicking thinking it was gonna cost me so much 💰, thanks to you I am going to fix my brake light promblem myself!! 😸 Thanks
So on my Honda my brakes light don’t work when I push it but when I turn on my light they come on and stay like I’m pressing the brake but I’m not could this help me or is this different
this is a 2 minute fix no need to remove any battery cables. start car apply e brake push down on brake pedal to install new brake stopper DONE if the old worn out one is still in and not working pull it out with either a flat blade screwdriver or use what a lot of people call a cat claw tool aka push pin pliers
I own a Subaru Forester 2002. There is SWITCH (called by the media platform "The Subaru Virgin Switch") located ON TOP of the dash board, in front of the Steering Column; it is supposed to TURN ON rear and front parking Lights, NO MATTER WHAT, even IF the engine is OFF (and which I turned ON unaware, while cleaning the dashboard!!). I spent 1 hour, looking for a problem in the Fuse box at the engine compartment; found a 20 A Fuse and pulled off to save Battery over the night!!! Now I am not longer a VIRGIN!!! There is nothing wrong with my tail... lights, and/or parking lights in front and/or rear! Hope this help other idiots like me!
Hi Self preservation what is the parts called ? I need to buy one for Honda Odyssey. Can i find it in local stores : Autozone, Oreilly, Advance auto ? Thanks !
Can someone explain to me why the fuck car manufacturers put a hole that lines up with this button? Seems to me like if the brake arm was solid it would push in the button all on its own every time you take your foot off the brake.
6 years later and this video still out here helping people. Without you I would’ve never known. Thank you!!!
Simple fix. Thanks ..
After 4 years, your video is still helping people know their vehicles 👍
Sir what do you call that piece? Mine is broken.

Man its night time right now for me, but i just happened to go outside and was like why the hell are my break lights on?
