Thank you very much for the video. It's one of the better TH-cam help videos because you get right to the point and I didn't have to stand on my head to figure everything out to make my lights to go back off! In the rain I might add..
Thanks bro just purchased my first car 2 days ago its a 1999 Corolla, i was pulling it in the garage the night i bought and realized the break lights wouldnt turn off, so my sisters boyfriend told me to disconnect the battery so the lights wouldnt drain it. Had tondo that everytime i came from somewhere cuz theybl would stay on, went to the toyota dealership yesterday morning ordered the plunger part you were talking about , picked it up a coulpe hours ago and fixed it. Though it was a little cramped. Thanks so much bro you save me from having to buy a new sensor
Thank you for having this here. It's close to midnight and I was going crazy about my car battery dying. I popped that fuse right out, and I get to rest easy at least until tomorrow.
Wonderful, thank you! As someone who knows very little about cars, you've allowed to me to identify the issue based on the broken stopper on my floor mat, and remove the fuse so my battery doesn't go flat while I arrange to purchase and install a new stopper. Very clear video and much appreciated!
Thanks heaps man. Super simple and straight-to-the-point. Incredibly helpful when I got home at 11.30pm and my brake lights stayed on. Fixed in less than 10 mins coz of this video. Thanks again
Great video. This helped my son temporarily fix the brake lights on his 2001 Toyota Corolla that wouldn’t turn off. He just removed the fuse and will take the car to the shop sometime later. Thank you very much. The video was great and the narration was great.
Excellent, saw some black rubber stuff on my floorboard and just thought it was trash. Went to install the new brake switch and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Pulled this video up and realized instantly I didn't have rubber plunger grommet piece. Thank you for showing this!
Nailed it. That was super quick on troubleshooting. Thanks for the solution. 👌 My 2001 Corolla brake lights seemed to be stuck on. The little plastic piece under the brake pedal (as mentioned in the video) was shattered and laying on the mat at my feet. I simply pulled the fuse (also as mentioned in this video), and the lights went out, thus preserving my battery until an appropriate repair can be made. 🙏 😅
Very informative and clear. Thanks for good demo of the wire harness clip and how best to adjust the switch on installing a replacement. Got the job done quickly (removal of spring to access the lock nut was helpful)and was able to fine tune the brake pedal pressure so brake lights come on with just light foot pressure like they’re supposed to. Kudos!
Thanks for the video it is well done. I had a Toyota parts store close and bought the brake light switch cushion for $4 rather than the Dorman, Elsewhere I read starting the engine allows the brake to depress further and then slipping the cushion in is no problem. I was more worried about doing myself damage dislocating something crawling up under there and getting back out.
You’re a g! Spent some time in that pedal box and didn’t notice the spacer in between the pedal assembly and the switch…. I hope just that it’ll do it! Cheers to pick n pull
Ugh, I was stoked to find this and found that the issues was that little rubber stopper, but it wouldn't stay in and finally disintegrated. I hesitantly bought a new one but installing it is like the most difficult thing I've had to do to a Toyota. This seems an odd design. Follow up: I simply unplugged and backed out the switch a couple mm and it popped right in, after contorting myself like a ballerina.
My friend's dad is a mechanic, and he figured out you can remove this paper clip-looking pin and a brass rod, and that lets you push the pedal back further. Thus, didn't have to remove the whole switch. It's in a super crampt spot.
Hello. How about the hand brake light switch? The brake indicator in my dash board stay even I put my hand brake down. Every thing is ok brake fluid, and frotn rear brake .
I have a 08 and I checked fuzes all good, just replaced the break light switch. Buy only my 3rd tail light Illuminate. Which multifunction Switch. should I replace? Or fix the problem
Thanks for video. First time writing on here. I own an old Toyota Matrix 2004, basic model. There's an issue with the rear brake light on the right. Left side is fine. Tried to change the bulb. it's not that. Pushing break pedal only lights the left side. I also noticed that when the engine is off, and I turn the headlights to high beams, the lights in the back also light up - and both sides. - all the lamps! I know, this sounds like a mistery. Any advice would be aprreciated. Thx.
@@honeywilliams9716 It turned out my towing package shorted out the system and popped the fuse.....if theres no power going through the stop circuit it doesn't tell your gear shift sensor the brake is on and its ok to shift

1 bulb only not lighting up maye be that one bulb needs replacement. It is likely the same bulb type as the 2 rear brake lights (they come in a 2-pack and are cheap). Replace the suspect bulb to start and only get a new switch AFTERWARDS if needed...
Good video but you make it look easy, that switch is way up under there on my 2002 Corolla, did you remove any dash panels first to give more room? I practically have to stand on my head just to see it. thanks.

I've had my 99 corolla for the last 11 years with basically no problems, good purchase!
Brilliantly done mate! This resolved my issue! I’m going to get that plunger as I diagnosed that to be the issue!

Thanks for making this. Great camera work and clear view/explanation.
Wish me luck, hopefully replacing the switch does the trick.
I installed a new switch and nothing. Any other ideas for what's happening? My emergency brake notifier started staying on a few months ago.

Does that switch control your cruise turning off and shifter release? Both stopped working in my corolla

Do you recommend getting an original Toyota switch, or will aftermarket do?
I have had good luck with aftermarket switches.
