I had this problem twice, first time in 2018 dealer took it under recall, it happened again this week, the grommet had a hole; instead of a grommet, I used a small round magnet and placed it on the brake arm under the switch, permanent cost pennies and took all of 30 seconds.

@@RBTheMechanicI have a 2002 Honda Accord (my 2nd car and my 18 yr old son is using it for work/school). It only has 166,000 miles and a TON of brand new stuff I did to it with my mechanic. I’m going to try a small magnet to replace the plastic piece…. I believe the switch is still good because he said it did go off and on as he tried it..
I used the round magnet the size of a dime but a little thicker than a nickel. On top of that put electrical tape around the brake arm and magnet so it shouldn’t slip off. Seems to work well…. May be a permanent fix👍🏻

I noticed pieces of a broken grommet on the floor, figured it was connected somehow so when I watched this video and you mentioned the same thing, pieces on the floor, sure enough, that was the problem! Thanks for this, now I just have to do a replacement, hopefully just the broken grommet.

Thank you! Same situation happened in my 2013 Hyundai Elantra, I found the grommet pieces on my floor mat, $5 pack of replacements on Amazon vs what would’ve been a trip to the auto shop. Saved me!
That’s a very common problem, we had in total 7 Hyundais in our Family in the last 15 years, and they all had the same issue. Even my new Sonata had a disintegrated brake padel dampener after just 3 years. I 3D printed it using TPU and it works like a Charme

Thank this helped me as well !!! I did and temp fix to keep my battery from dying by whipping out some duct tape. Tore a 2ft or so length and ripped into 3 equal long lengths. Double one length over and over into a 1/4 inch square pad. Laid another strip over the square pad. Placed the pad over the spot where the brake switch grommet would go Then wrapped the strip laid over the pad around the brake notch so the pad would not easily fall off.
Ethan I had another job I used dime coil and silicon attaches it to the spit and put more silicon around it so it will never fall off worked like charm!
Thanks a lot man for such a helpful , wonderful and guidance in simple language , I faced same problem with my Hyundai Xcent Car , I saw your video and simply removed the respective Fuse , This stopped Tail Brake Light from continuously being on. Further Car Mechanic will help to fix the problem 👍
Okay 👍🏽 thanks, found the round silicone piece on the floor. It just cooled off and my neighbor just walked out of his pickup truck coming from work and I showed him this video. FIXED . ❤thanks Where can I get a replacement of this piece from ❓because it looks worn out but we held it together with electrical tape. It’s a Kia Soul 2013 base model.
Thanks RB The Mechanic. This was exactly the problem with my 96 Honda. The grommet feel out. I have an extra rubber piece and tape to keep it in place temporarily until I get it fix. I don't understand why some people gave you a thumbs down when you shared a solution to the problem. Take care Bro! 👍
Thanks. Watching this video I figured out that the rubber thing fell off and I put it back and it fixed my problem I was having with my break lights staying on. Thanks. I'll need to glue it back
Hey man. Thank you for this. You really help me alot. May I ask what is the name of the part you were mentioning in the video? So maybe I can order it online.
Honestly no idea some type of grommet for brake switch I used the same one but car came back few months later then I glued down nickle coin and it’s been good ever since
Thank You, its amazing to find a simple, quick to the point video that actually fixes a problem. Do you have any idea what is the issue that causes the break and tail light bulbs to keep burning out every 4-7 months on these Hyundai's ? I have a 2012 Elantra that I have to replace the bulbs every few months, and have been told by other owners that they have the same problem and even people at repair shops..
Thanks for this very useful video. I checked and the little rubber thing was on the floor and thanks to you I could fix it and enjoy some peace of mind and not drain the battery.
you have no bloody idea how much this helped me. its 10pm, cold and im dreading waking up to a dead battery and a call out fee. This solution fixed by problem! i just put a paper on that piston till morning lights off, battery good!
Was at work when someone told me my back lights were on, kind of panicked, and this video helped ASAP.. Found pieces on the carpet as well 💪🏼💪🏼😂 great video
Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. Ir helped me alot identifying the issue. For other peeps who comes across this issue, I used a spare engine rubber tube, cut off a piece and just placed it where the spacer was. It fixed the issue lol. I'll probably leave that one there since it's thick and will probably last longer than the original break stoppers.
Very helpful! Our 2006 sonata is having the same issue and we were gonna have to disconnect the battery when not in use but now we can just tape the button down temporarily :)
Thanks so much for this video. I found the little grommet on the floor it has basically disentigrated. Will hopefully be able to just buy the little piece.
This just happened to my car. I saw this little brown piece of plastic and a few other pieces laying on the floor and looked under the dash at the brake pedal and saw that button along with some gritty residue, probably from that broken plastic. I'm not a mechanic so I wasn't really able to put 2 and 2 together so here I am watching your video. Mine is designed differently, but the principle is the exact same. I'm sure that little piece of plastic is going to cost at least $20.00 if not more. Thanks for saving me a lot of time, money and wasted effort.
thanks the video it really helpful it just happened to my son car today , and I found you video take me less then 5 minutes fixed after watching you video.

I did and temp fix to keep my battery from dying by whipping out some duct tape.
Tore a 2ft or so length and ripped into 3 equal long lengths.
Double one length over and over into a 1/4 inch square pad.
Laid another strip over the square pad.
Placed the pad over the spot where the brake switch grommet would go
Then wrapped the strip laid over the pad around the brake notch so the pad would not easily fall off.
Nice good job!!!
This helped so much couldn't figure it out for the longest. Thank u !
Cool good job finding it!!!
Dealer or online however magnetic coil from home deport work well or penny tape it up
Thank you. This was very helpful. You saved me a battery .
Facts! 🙌🏾
This is EXACTLY what just happened and your video helped me fix it!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing my man!!!!

@@RBTheMechanic You're a hero...KNOW THAT. Thank you...
@@charliecarter1878 thank you!!
Yeah it’s cool I try my best to help everyone
The thumbs down were the crooked mechanics who would have charged you $500 for the fix.
@@hjmcgill yeah hater!
@@RBTheMechanic $8 fix
@@hjmcgill I’m la number one poquito 💩 I think 💭 will do the right one ☝🏽
Thanks. Watching this video I figured out that the rubber thing fell off and I put it back and it fixed my problem I was having with my break lights staying on. Thanks. I'll need to glue it back
Use a nickle or coin to glue it or tape it on worked better the old piece is garbage now they usually brake up
Watched it like 5x to fix mine . Thank you so much !!!

Used a magnet with some tape. Thanks for the information!!! God bless TH-cam and this man!

Brake Pedal Stopper
@@CJ-fh5xq Thanks CJ!!!!
I had similar issue try using electric grease in the connector
YOU ARE THE MAN! Probably saved me 100s! Good looking out!!!
Nice glad to help!! I just
Got honda in today no brake lights work guy can shift gears and vsc light come on I’m think bad brake switch

I have the same problem with my G35.
@@cbreezy2091 I went to auto zone got me the little plastic thing to hold that white button , worked again
@@josephtocozy608 The plastic piece was still there and my brakes still won't go out.
Glad u found my video
Thank you so much for this video!! You saved me ❤️
No problem glad the video was a help!!!
Had this problem for over 3 months. Had no money for mechanic to look at car . Went on U tube and fixed in minutes 👍🤓
Nice job!!!!! Glad u search for this!!!
Very helpful! Our 2006 sonata is having the same issue and we were gonna have to disconnect the battery when not in use but now we can just tape the button down temporarily :)
Hack. Pull up the brake pedal. Lights will go off.

Thanks so much for this video. I found the little grommet on the floor it has basically disentigrated. Will hopefully be able to just buy the little piece.
You welcome they sell them at Autozone but if u can get those magnetic coin things from Home Depot it worked best for me
Found the piece on the floor and it worked. Mine was yellow/gold. Thank you so much
Good job!!
Thank you!!! It worked for me... found the little piece that fell off
Nice good job!!!
What is the official name of the Grommet Replacement Part?
This just happened to my car. I saw this little brown piece of plastic and a few other pieces laying on the floor and looked under the dash at the brake pedal and saw that button along with some gritty residue, probably from that broken plastic. I'm not a mechanic so I wasn't really able to put 2 and 2 together so here I am watching your video. Mine is designed differently, but the principle is the exact same. I'm sure that little piece of plastic is going to cost at least $20.00 if not more. Thanks for saving me a lot of time, money and wasted effort.
Nice good discovery!! Easy fix
thanks the video it really helpful it just happened to my son car today , and I found you video take me less then 5 minutes fixed after watching you video.
Good job!!! Easy diy fix !!!! Awsem!!!!
