abs is good but for many years, from the beginning,we had no abs in any car. You don't have to have it to drive. Of course abs does add a slight degree of a safety.
I learned to drive 50 years ago in Northern Wisconsin (think snow and ice). Very good information, after reading through some of the comments I realized there are some really stupid people out there, you made it so easy to check and you have people talk about how hard it is, but then when you look at most of the politicians that keep getting voted in office time and time again you start to realize that stupid really runs deep. Good day sir
This problem can be a pain and expensive to fix, some cars have metal cased wheel sensors that mount into alloy or steel hubs and after a while are impossible to remove without breaking them, plus if the pump is at fault the cost of the pump can be more than the value of certain ageing cars.I can tell you after 50 years in the motor trade that this is seldom a simple or cheap fix.
I believe that using OBD scanner is much easier and more safe than these steps otherwise visiting the mechanic. I don't recommend for any car owners without professional background to do the ABS sensor testing. Thanks for the video because I can't deny that you provided useful information and ideas.
What type of special training do you need to follow the simple steps in this video? If you're worried about backyard mechanics then your worries are wasted, you should be worried about the person beside you ordering dinner on the phone while meeting their side piece before they get home!

My Jeep just failed its annual inspection on ABS, with a broken cable to the sensor broken. Jeep wanted $a lot and currently not in stock if they can get one at all. A breaker is getting one to me tomorrow for $ less than 100. Then back to the shop, I need to replace a front marker light bulb and headlight bulb too, but I've already got them.
I'm a licensed Texas safety and emissions inspector and can tell you a lit abs light will not cause your vehicle to fail an inspection. Whoever told you that is full of shit. Code 4.20.11 line q of the TXDPS inspection code says "Anti-lock (ABS) lamp on signal which is on or comes on during test will not be cause for rejection." Basically Abs is an add on to the service (regular) brakes and as long as there's nothing wrong with the service brakes, the vehicle will pass the brake portion of the inspection.

ABS is nothing but icing on the cake and 99.9% of drivers will never need it. I have known the ABS to cause hella accidents when people changed a bunch of stuff (that they shouldnt have changed - one guy i knew just had to have a higher rear end ratio in his Dodge truck, and this totally botched the ABS!) I drove, my parents drove, your parents drove, your GRANDparents drove without ABS! To me its more junk to go wrong and cost you all your savings! Keep your speed down in pouring rain and you'll never need it. Not that ABS is not a good thing but look back and ask yourself HOW MANY TIMES have you locked up the wheels during braking? Chances are the answers zero, whether you drove ABS or not!
Good vid! If you have time i have question. My 2005 Dod Grand Caravan has had ABS light on for a few years. Don't ask bout inspections:))) I finally need to fix this. Cost of guessing mount up fffast. I sent to Garage to scan looking for a direction as I had checked sensors and (rings), with no visible issues. They said pump ABS would not power, no codes for sensors. I removed battery and checked for power to plug on Module. 12 v and good ground to both heavy wired connectors. Top 2 positive, lower 2 ground I did the ohm check on all sensors they checked ok. Have power to plus side of connectors (close to each sensor). However i tried the connect sensor pins to meter set to A/C, spinning tire I get no current detected on any sensors. What I did not check while I had module plug off was pin 7 left side (holding the plug as it fits) is supposed to be powered as well. I guess i need to get up and close to wiring diagram. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Best; Tom
Looks like I'm Not alone in the ABS light thing. I've had this thing for almost 10 yrs changed wheel bearing its 4x4 & light came off after all was put back together & drives & sounds Great I don't get it.
I wanted to add that it could be your brake switch as well. My brake lights worked normal however my abs light was on. It actually turned on and off for awhile. But eventually stayed on and wouldnt turn off. I did have a code for brake switch light. I changed it out and my abs light turned off.
2009 dodge caliber sxt light came on a week ago. Checked tires by grabbing them seeing any looseness. Seemed fine in all 4. Put front up on jackstands and sped tires to 50 mph. Noise seemed fine on both sides. Checked rear wheels for looseness. None. Spinned wheels by hand and seemed fine. Checked tire pressure to see if psi was OK. NOT. All 4 tires were 25 to 27 psi. Put in 33 psi in all tires and took for a spin and ABS light went out. Holy shite. I wouldn't have thunk that. CHECK tire pressure. It was a easy fix.....
My local Midas Muffler shop where I get all my work done changed the right front sensor on my 2008 Ranger. $475.00 Now my left front sounds like a cat got caught in the wheel. Not wanting to pay that price again I did as this video said after a long search for the correct fuse. Ford sucks on that, they number the fuses and finding the right one was a cluster. Now it works like any power brake system I've used forever. Doing the Snoopy dance now.
Really useful. Thank you. I have the basic tools & knowledge to follow what you have described, i just need a little time to get to the vehicle & check it over.
My ABS ABD light would come on after driving about 20 feet, in either forward or reverse. Turns out it was the relay (one of two) in the trunk on the pax side. The one closest to the gas tank was the culprit.
Great guide. I have a 87 Ford Scorpio (Granada mk3) and these days a lot of the suspesnion parts will be replaced. Like brake discs, pads and wheel bearings. The ABS light comes on periodically, often its off at idle and comes on when reacing a certain speed. Any tips what could be wrong? Ill will probably check each sensor the way that is shown in the video, but first Ill check the fuse.
Hey, great video - very explanatory. Could I get out of the way the ABS module failure since my ABS light only goes on after I increase the car's speed beyond, let's say 15mph? Basically when I start the ABS lights are off. The car is BMW E91n 208 320d. I have to mention that I cleaned the rear left and right sensors and after the cleaning the ABS light was off before the speed increase, before the cleaning the light was always on. Also the ECU errors for ABS are: 5DB2 and 5D90. Thank you!
Yes, perfectly well. Let us just ignore all those who died and to whom it did not end up perfectly well at all. And lets just ignore all those who were saved due to having ABS brakes. And why stop there, cars operated for almost a century without seatbelt gadgets too :) and so on ..
Great video, one question, all the abs sensors are check in ac current? Or there are others types of sensors that are check in dc current? Please let me know, thank you and cheers from Ontario ca,
I have a B7 vw passat. 2 rear wheels not returning speeds. I have had to pull the abs fuse to disable the abs as the offside right front abs is activating at moderately low brake pressure. The rear abs rings and sensors check out ok.
What about when you have intermittent steering issues and your calipers stick with no patterns? Nobody seems to notice a problem yet there's 0 volts going to my ABS module and a constant drag noise coming from both front rotors. I wish mine would throw a code.
My abs goes off and them back on 5-10 seconds later and stays on. Any idea where I should start with this it is 1994 so no codes to get. I like your video, very concise. sub'ed

1. I just got a quote for this where they quoted for replacing the entire hub assembly on both rear wheels. Would this ever be necessary ??? 2. If I buy 2 new sensors online and replace them myself, will the warning lights automatically go off ?? or would I need a diagnostic tool to reset them ??
WhyTrumpQuestions thanks for the answers. I've since done a bit more research and the Getz model I have has hub assemblies which include the built in abs sensor so you can't just buy the sensor. I will check the fuses and connections and if all else fails order the two hubs online and get a mechanic to fit them. Thanks again.
very useful thanks. my ABS light and parking brake light turn on while I am driving then if I park turn car off then car on again neither light will go on...help !
_"When this light is on, it means the system is disabled"_ Not true. My ABS warning lamp is on and yet the ABS works just fine. I've tested it on a dirt road. The brakes pulse just like they should and the car pulls straight. The only thing I can think of is a short in the lamp wiring. Any other reason the lamp would be on? If it is a short, is there any common places this would happen? I'm not looking forward to completely disassembling the dash in a '93 Caprice just to get the stupid light to go out.
Wrong bro if your abs the light is on it means your brake is not properly working, the cause sometimes your brake should not open proper or maybe if you apply your it could be dragging, or going on other side try to figure it bro 100%
Will sticking brakes cause abs and vdc lights. My 350z will suddenly (in drive) shift into low gear and come to a sudden stop when I let go the gas paddle. I can take my foot and lift the brake paddle and all seems normal. I can drive a few as long as I dont touch the brakes.

Very good information, after reading through some of the comments I realized there are some really stupid people out there, you made it so easy to check and you have people talk about how hard it is, but then when you look at most of the politicians that keep getting voted in office time and time again you start to realize that stupid really runs deep. Good day sir
You are not wrong. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Love these guys! I use them at least once a month and they have yet to fail me!!
Thanks for watching!

Tape on the light is the best way to go!
But still cheaper than a new car..

@@davidpeters2201 working on cars is dangerous. Fixing things on your own is dangerous, posting videos on yourtube am dangerous, Snowflakes definitely dangerous, and trying to help someone who probably couldn't change a tire RIP

Thanks for this video. Very helpful. I found the issue with my pickup truck ABS warning, one of the wire speed sensors was chewed by our dog. Reconnected it, the light turned off and the ABS itself is working again.
@Predator Plus more like a rat chewed it
My Jeep just failed its annual inspection on ABS, with a broken cable to the sensor broken. Jeep wanted $a lot and currently not in stock if they can get one at all. A breaker is getting one to me tomorrow for $ less than 100. Then back to the shop, I need to replace a front marker light bulb and headlight bulb too, but I've already got them.
Very helpful! Where I live in Texas, an abs light makes a vehicle fail the annual inspection and you can't get it registered.
@@frankgonzalez24 If I slam on breaks a couple of times in my 96 Blazer less than 50k miles and if you have a friend that does inspections ask them if they can use another vehicle to pass the inspection.
@@frankgonzalez24 Thank you for citing the regulations. (I confirmed it with a simple Google search.) I just got rejected today because of the ABS light. I'll try that again.
@@frankgonzalez24So, basically it’s just emissions & tires that the vehicle has to pass?

Don't ask bout inspections:)))
I finally need to fix this.
Top 2 positive, lower 2 ground
I did the ohm check on all sensors they checked ok.
And that component costs ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
Thank u
Although this was a very detailed video. Steps 2&3 are not EASY fixes for the every day driver. Thanks for the video.
Congratulations, now you have 1 million plus 1
Thanks for watching Tommy!
I like that clear Snap-On test light.
It is my favorite test light! Thank you for watching!
Midas is the worst. Ive paid for an oil change and checked it after before, and it was still black. Same filter. Find a good shop
Good info👍👍👍
Midas is such a rip off..incredibly over priced and their work isn't great.
That music is groovin'. Couldn't focus on repairing my car.
Thank You, I subscribed! I changed the fuse, and will drive it in my driveway to check it.
Thank you so much for watching!
I hope it is as easy as you make it look. Thank you.
man I hate using mulit meters.. I'm not confident with those..
Really useful. Thank you. I have the basic tools & knowledge to follow what you have described, i just need a little time to get to the vehicle & check it over.
Nice! Thanks for watching Jon!
My ABS ABD light would come on after driving about 20 feet, in either forward or reverse. Turns out it was the relay (one of two) in the trunk on the pax side. The one closest to the gas tank was the culprit.
5.3 million views on the abs light.
Congrats
Great guide. I have a 87 Ford Scorpio (Granada mk3) and these days a lot of the suspesnion parts will be replaced. Like brake discs, pads and wheel bearings. The ABS light comes on periodically, often its off at idle and comes on when reacing a certain speed. Any tips what could be wrong? Ill will probably check each sensor the way that is shown in the video, but first Ill check the fuse.
Very helpful information. Now I know what an ABS warning light can mean.
Yep! Thanks for watching Reginald!
Many older rear wheel drive vehicles have a single abs sensor located on the differential housing using 3 sensors total.
I can confirm this on my 1996 vehicle.
Perfect description for the code c1391. Cannot be better than this.
80% of the time its just the sensor thats dirty.
Thank you!
I'm a newbie but clean the ring the sensor reads from.
And cars operated for almost a century without that gadget, perfectly well when the operator knew what they were doing (No facebook or texting).
Please let me know, thank you and cheers from Ontario ca,
Great simple straightforward advice 👍
I have a B7 vw passat. 2 rear wheels not returning speeds. I have had to pull the abs fuse to disable the abs as the offside right front abs is activating at moderately low brake pressure. The rear abs rings and sensors check out ok.
my lites been on 12 months ..my ck engine been on longer than that.someday iwill have to get my 20 year old Malibu inspected.

Awesome! Thanks for watching!
What about when you have intermittent steering issues and your calipers stick with no patterns? Nobody seems to notice a problem yet there's 0 volts going to my ABS module and a constant drag noise coming from both front rotors.
I wish mine would throw a code.
Did you ever figure it out?
My abs goes off and them back on 5-10 seconds later and stays on. Any idea where I should start with this it is 1994 so no codes to get. I like your video, very concise. sub'ed
I had this problem with my dodge charger. It was the wheel speed sensors. Id start there.
Thank you for posting exactly what I needed to know
Thanks for watching!
Just had a quick question if the back wheel is locking up and the abs is on what should I be troubleshooting
I’m have an issue with my ABS light turning on randomly and I have zero knowledge on working on cars. This video made my head hurt.
How to fix car prilur abs and brake
It’s funny how people will just ask you guys certain questions that can easily be answered by just researching it over the internet? Besides that, a very informative video.
This is researching over the internet...
Reading the comments is great. I respect them for dealing with it. One thing I've learned, never let anyone know that you can fix stuff. Especially cars!
Next thing you know you're changing an alternator on 2015 average for a cuite thinking alternators are easy... pos dodge.
Thank you. It gives me an idea what the mechanic is checking
Thanks for watching!
if you can't drive a car without abs you shouldn't be licensed
George Marinos I agree... However if it is a wheel bearing problem turning on the light... You might wanna get that checked out...
good point
driving isnt usually the issue, its passing inspection.
Cannabis Country definitely because you cant sell the car hell ive had a work car i wish i could just sell it
my abs wheel sensor is out so my car pulls to the right now because abs pump isn't functioning...otherwise I wouldn't care
Usually they will go off by themselves after replacing the hub/ hub assembly.
very useful thanks. my ABS light and parking brake light turn on while I am driving then if I park turn car off then car on again neither light will go on...help !
check ur brake fluid
Jorji Sam thanks I'll do that...
Jorji Sam I am having the same issue the fluid is full replaced all the breaks and checked the sensors tried your trick and lights still go on.

_"When this light is on, it means the system is disabled"_
Not true.
Nice tutorial. Looks fairly simple.
Thank you for watching!
These guys explaining everything so wonderful it sounds like they are speaking actually to car mechanics, not like a person like me, in my case the only thing I know is to check the fuse and change it if needed, not helpful at all.
Did my best to make it as simple as possible. Thanks for watching!
Most of the time it's just the magnetic sensor that needs to be replaced on the inside of the roter
Thats my issue original sensor and going past 400 k still running
This is a very good video I only have one question where's the fuse box 😮💨
And how could you do all this at home?
I would prefer to get the OBD error code first
MURRYCHOOCK ...yes, you can use that (OBD scanner) but those warning lights will eventually come back.
You should also check the “Switch Stop Lamp” sensor (sometimes located on top of the pedals area).
I just decided to check my air pressure wow the tyres were a bit low and the light went back off on the anti-skid after I drove it for a couple of minutes…
If the abs light is on... don't worry about it, u don't need it
I can’t pass inspection with the lights on
thats not true, abs will affect speed sensor and therefore affect shift points and trans behavior.
not true my 4wd wont lock in because of it
Ehhh... I disagree. Both times my ABS came on, grinding in the wheel occurred within 30 minutes. over three hundred dollars to fix both times.
@@gxrebel1730 yea I just had my rear wheel speed sensor replaced at the shop & when I picked it up, the abs light was off until the next morning it came back on again & now it stays on everytime I drive it. what else could it be?
Dig that lounge music too! 💯
An open circuit will read infinite ohms on the ohmmeter not no ohms.
I've been dealing with these lights since 2020... 9k later still there... hoping this video works...
Yep it should! Thanks for watching!
Pull the fuse and live with it.
Can the abs still work after pull the fuse?
@ No. you then have regular (and dependable) brakes. The downside is that dashboard brake warning light and ABS light are on all the time.
GUYS!! please dont get confused, some cars dont have 4 speed sensors, some only have 1(very rare) some only have 2, 1 on each front, alot have 3, 1 on each front and 1 on the rear driveshaft somewhere, and of course the best, one on each wheel.. theirs simple to spot, theyre the only thing in the area thats a wire, otherwise the only thing in that area at all will b a break line. very very very rarely there will b a linkage on high end vehicles for automatic leveling, other other than that.......
Easy steps? Maybe for gearheads.
It is not hard to understand if you listen and not just say it's hard with the first word you don't understand!
