Moog Sound Studio - Quick Start Tutorial (part 1)

  • Good Evening! ... So I have had the Moog Sound Studio for a little over a year now and I wanted to make a video on how I patch the Moog Subharmonicon, DFAM and Mother 32 to make a song every time, using a method I have been subconsciously using and perfecting for the last few months. Basically how to get the start of a song as quick as possible so you can start patching to find more interesting stuff quicker!
    Part 2 is on the way and will show how to take the song I made to the next level ( just need to get round to making it now)!
    Have a great day fellow musicians!

    THANK YOU for making this! Most of the videos I come across are bad demos lol. Your patch/sequence is awesome. Definitely inspired me to pull out mine and make some new stuff

    What's crazy is you made it look so easy. I have these synths with an additional m32 and when I try to get a complete song going, it's not something so quick and easy.

    glad I found your channel. you have the set up that I really want. No computer, just synths and a mixer - all that's missing is a sampler i'd add or a drum machine. Love it! Thanks for the video

    For some reason, I started thinking about getting an analog synth a few weeks ago, and the Sound Studio just jumped out at me. However, I have no real experience with electronic music--other than listening to it (I am a longtime classical guitarist, so I'm not new to music in general). Anyway, this video has pretty much sold me on the Sound Studio--Moog (or maybe Sweetwater) should probably pay you a commission for the upcoming sale. Excellent video!

    This was really help to begin creating a patch starting from the DFAM and ending up with the mother32. I was getting lost moving between the mother32 and the subharmonicon, not really knowing where to start. I'm going to work from here to begin understanding how these three instruments tie together. I had a blast with a session this evening following some of these suggestions. Thank you!

    Excellent explanation. I've been loving the DFAM for a while and just recently go the SubH and M32 to add to it. This was a great jumping off point for me. Not sure exactly on the tempo connection to M32 as this method does keep the M32 in time and allows to speed up and slow down tempo, but it doesn't start and stop and M32 when you start the DFAM.

    Thanks so much - I always really enjoy your "patch from scratch" style videos - it helped me come to terms with the SubH a lot. The M32 stuff you had in this one about trying to pick the melody without having to dive deep into musical theory was especially awesome though.

    I love that you can make the DFAM and Subharmonicon into absolute drone monsters that can sound nothing like this.

    Hej! Thanx a lot for your video, it's precious!
    Just have some issues with the subharmonicon to mother32 patch. As soon as I plug the cable, the m32 react by changing the rythm constantly (as if the notes weren't triggered all the time). I don't know if it's a firmware update thing but I didn't get around it. Any idea?
    Thanks again for your work ;)

    Thanks so much for this video, it gave me a new push with the Moog studio.
    My biggest issue there is the M32. I really like the sound, but the sequencer and menu diving is so horrible. I.e. for me it doesn‘t change the tempo when turning the knob while it is synced. Some wrong mode, I guess?
    Anyway, keep up the good work, would love to see more tutorial videos on the studio

    • @imsilentjay
      @imsilentjay 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You need to update the tempo input setting so that it's in MODE 3 - Analog Clock. (Shift + Reset/Accent + Set End + 8, use arrows to go to page 3 of the settings, press 3).

  • @senorjacob
    @senorjacob ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is great! But how are you able to change the tempo of the m32 when it is receiving the clock from the suBh. Is there a special setting that allows you to do that? (When I change the tempo knob, nothing happens.)

    Hi I'm planning to buy sound studio 3 and I'm looking for user reviews. How would you describe this trio as an educational instrument or tool?

    • @Cutflower
      @Cutflower  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey buddy good question. Depends on the type of education you are looking for. Personally I put them in the category of “happy accident machines”. I was able to learn quite a lot of synthesis from them, and I have used them as a tool for other things in songs, but overall I use them as something where i sit down and have no idea what songs going to be playing on my speakers in half an hour! Probably doesn’t answer your question, but it’s what I got!
