    A review of the Elegoo Water Washable Photopolymer Resin with my Elegoo Mars 3D printer. How does the Washable Resin stand up against the Standard Resin? Does it print as well? And what about other important qualities to the 3D printing enthusiast?

      You can, but the impeller in the base of the wash container has two magnets and a bearing, all made of mild/ferrous steel so they WILL rust in time. You could replace the bearing and the screws holding the magnets with stainless steel. versions.

    Hey bud, I am very new to all this. Do you happen to have a screenshot of the settings you use with the Saturn for the washable resin? I am using Lychee as a slicer. I did look at the settings there but it was all dutch to me :)

    • @KingBlueSlimss
      @KingBlueSlimss 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the settings are all "dutch" to you, then I would recommend taking the time to learn what they mean, and how they effect your printer. It's not difficult, it just requires you to invest some time. I tried to copy settings and ultimately I just ended up with more failed prints than successes. Now I have everything calibrated I print perfect 90% of time

      It is an amazing printer but I can't tell you it's any better or worse than others because this is the only one I've tried. They might all be this good - or maybe this is the best, I really don't know for sure. But I do know it can handle off-brand resins. Every "castable" resin I've tried is off-brand. • @vogman

      Not the Elegoo... it has a smell and with a good sense of smell you might smell it in a large room, but not through the house. I keep my printer in just one room... I smell it when I walk in (it's not a bad smell either) but nowhere else in the home. However, I've heard that some resins have a stronger odour... bad I couldn't say which.

    Very informative, thank you. When my ship comes in again, I am tempted to get the same printer. However, here in South Africa, we have to make do with what is in the market here. Buying overseas may be cheaper in sales price, but shipping is sometimes more than half the total cost and that excludes import taxes. So we do not really score.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have any ventilation, but I do use a side room. There is a smell from the resins but for me it's not too bad. The alcohol used for cleaning is what really smells. I don't think I'd want a printer in a main living space, but any spare room with a window would be fine. Without that option, you will get the smells. If you want to know if you could live with it, get some isopropyl alcohol or Methylated spirits, position it safely and leave the lid off. That's as bad as it will get: )

      There are a few solutions below, but I think I favour the simplest idea which in my mind should work well. Store the water in a clear glass or plastic bottle outside where it can get plenty of daylight. The resin should settle and set, separating itself from the water. As a double safety feature, the lid could be removed and the water could be allowed to naturally evaporate.

    I just got my first resin Printer and was using SainSmart Rapid UV resin and it had a strong smell of Rust/Dirt that it started to give my mom an asthma attack. I cleaned everything up and purd it back into its bottle. The air clear and everything was ok. I didn't want to spend the night in the ER. Is there a real strong smell to this resin or is there none since I'm looking into getting water-based resins?

    • @vogman

      My wife responds badly to strong odours. She gets nasty migraines. The Elegoo resins haven't bothered her at all. It's hard to say whether it would be the same for your mother, but I do know different resins have different odours. However, the washable and the standard resins both smelt the same to me... neither seem that strong with the Elegoo brand.

    Hi VOG, I have nothing but failure with water wash. It comes off buid plate nearly every time. I've been printing w ABS like with excellent result. The water based fails 100% on Elwgoo Mars. I heat room, shake bottle, use a tad of Rainex on FEP, use recommend settings, even scrub build plate w baking soda- nothing works. Alcohol, and Acetone wiping build plate doesn't seem to help. I'm at a loss. The ABS like is a pain to clean w alcohol, but it prints perfectly.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first response is the make sure the plate is properly levelled. It's also a good idea to check if the plate is completely flat. Sometimes a little sanding is needed (as I covered in last weeks video - th-cam.com/video/zfNATNOfojA/w-d-xo.html ). Now if your settings are good, it should stick.
      I never heat, but I do shake well, and the Elegoo resins have never given me trouble. Some speciality resins are hard to stick, but Elegoo is generally fine.
      Here's a thought... watch the video I've mentioned and download the prime coat file from Thingiverse (it's free). Double your bottom layer count and print JUST the prime coat. It's so thin, it only takes a few minutes. These really do stick well but they can be hard to see, so make sure yours is there.
      If it works, try the technique I suggest in this video about combining the print and the prime coat. If this fails, and everything else I've said is good, get another bottle of resin and try again. I've never heard of resins going-off, but maybe they do...

    Hi! Compliments for yours videos!
    So, i have a problem: i have elegoo mars and the new chitubox 1.6.3 (with new settings) and i ve used this resin, but my elegoo now doesn t print, the resin remains attacked on the fep like a sheet. How i can fix this big problem? Thanks

    • @vogman
      @vogman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This happens quite often with resin printing so don't be concerned. The prints didn't stick properly to the build plate. Instead they then built up on the FEP like flat blobs.
      Empty out all your resin and filter it well to remove any lumps with filters like these amzn.to/2vX26ed . Clean everything well with alcohol, especially the FEP and build plate.
      Then take your time and make sure your build plate is properly levelled (I cover that in my review video th-cam.com/video/Z-qC9KtOOzk/w-d-xo.html ). Most printing problems come from this stage, so take your time and you'll get there 😊
      If this doesn't work, then you need to make sure your first few layers stick well.
      To begin, use a raft as this has a large surface area which helps to adhere. Then adjust the Bottom Layer time. Some resins take longer than others, but if you're using the Elegoo standard or washable grey, try adding 4 seconds. You can increase or decrease this at any time.
      If this still doesn't work, let me know.

    How do you dispose of the water used to wash the prints?

    • @vogman
      @vogman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ideally it should NOT be poured down the drain. If you've seen my Recycle IPA video th-cam.com/video/5U1IshPqmak/w-d-xo.html the same principle can be applied to water, essentially UV curing out the resin. With this done, the rest can be poured on a patch of concrete on a warm or windy day to let the elements evaporate the water, leaving at most a miniscule trace of resin behind 😁

      Unfortunately this is one of those subjective things. What smells nice to one guy smells horrible to another, etc. Personally I don't find the odours from resins very offensive, but I have to add the odour from this resin was less pungent than many I've used. I hope that helps a little 😁
      I would always advise working with doors and windows opens. Plenty of ventilation is key.

    it shatters like glass... so for miniatures it's great.
    not that anyone uses resin printers for practical printing, this stuff is weak by comparison to standard PLA prints with low infill.
