Hi, thanks for reviewing. As mentioned in other comments, I use ww resin exclusively, ipa washing was a deal breaker for me. The only thing I print with resin is miniatures, Lotp, Titan forge, dragon trappers, artisan guild stuff and I’ve never had a problem. I’ve never even heard of a cracking issue, I can only guess they aren’t washing or curing them properly. With regards to the durability, yeah, it’s got less give in it than abs, but unless you’ve got hands like pig trotters and you throw your miniatures around like a monkey flings poo then you should be fine. Remember, these are custom painted gaming tokens… have some respect. I hope you do get some use out of the ww resin, the more we as end users use it, the more elegoo and the like will invest in the development of the product. Have fun printing everyone, whatever resin you use.
This might be one of my favourite comments ever! I think I'll continue using it for larger prints, and my Artisan Guild stuff. The cleaning is a very big win and the detail is great.
I’m in the same boat. I can’t use iso. I’m having issues with the post processing learning curve though. How long should I wash the mini parts in the wash station and how long should I cure the mini?
@@hobbithubby5076 I wash my stuff in an old washing up bowl and use the brush that comes with the resin. I then put them in the curing pod I’ve got for a couple of minutes on each side. What issues are you having?
I just started printing and I feel that the cleanup is way to messy. Do you feel that the process with ww resin is less messy?
@@ThunderstruckElectronix so much easier. I have a washing up bowl that I use with some warm water and rinse the miniatures off, I get in there with a little brush too. I dispose of the water in a bucket outside and let it evaporate. I have been known to put my uv lamp over the water just to try and solidify the resin that’s suspended in the water but I don’t always do that.
Resin cracking is almost always from hallow prints with uncured resin inside. This is why you need it to have drain holes and need to get UV light inside to cure inside also. There are tiny UV lights you can get to get the inside of hallow prints.
Yeah that definitely seems likely. I’ve not seen any issues with the resin prints from this months after, so still fine here.
Or print everything solid, like I now do.
I was burnt by a model of Ken from Street Fighter, the artist modelled him with hollow insides, even though I printed him solid, I missed that there was a hollow section inside. About 1 month in, as the resin off-gassed, his chest burst open like a scene from Aliens. I ended up with resin on my hands because I hadn't realised. Fortunately I had not gotten round to painting him.
In terms of cost, I like to think about how much I can realistically print and paint, if I think about resin and spending £25 on a bottle, it seems expensive, but if I realise I rarely buy one or two a month, that doesn't sound so expensive for a hobby I enjoy. So I have entirely stopped caring about a bit of resin waste and now just enjoy printing solid.
Everything feels better solid anyway. Nice and chonky.
The reason you have no cracks is because its not hollow. I have worked almost exclusively with water washable resin for nearly 2 years and I have NEVER had a model crack that wasn't hollowed and even hollowed prints as long as I print with 4.5mm walls or use internal supports never have cracks or explosions. The few times and I mean only 4 times out of over a 50 hollowed out prints that did crack it was because I made the walls under 4mm thick and didn't cure the inside of the model.
Makes sense. I always tend to avoid hollowed models just in case I mess those up, but I've only ever had one where I hadn't cured it properly and it cracked because of it.
dont have that issue with 2mm walls tho
I like to see what happens if you mix in 10% of a super flexible/durable resin into the water washable

I’d be curious to see a drop test of the miniatures from various heights (6”, 12”, table height). Rare that one would be bending a weapon like you did. Knocking it off the table, though..
You mean you don't bend all your minis in unnatural ways?? 😂 Good point though! I'll put together a drop test for the different resins I've covered so far on the channel.
It's definitely very brittle in my experience - and yeah any length fall, forget it that's a break.
I was just thinking about picking some of this stuff up.
hi, love your videos, really informative, just wondering, have you ever tried pla like resin, if you have, how does it compare to abs like resin in terms of surface quality and durability
I've had the issues with this resin on hollow things... They kept warping after being cleaned, I even had some parts breaking... It might be that there was still a tiny bit of uncured resin inside, but the water doesn't really wash it that well, it's more like trying to clean off honey or such heh... I switched away from it. Especially since I ended up spraying it with alcohol in the end to really get it clean because I kept noticing that there was still some resin on there even after giving it a thorough cleanse in water. It's water washable, but you really need a lot of water which is so hard to dispose of... my two buckets full are still evaporating in the garden.
All of that makes sense. You’re still ending up with a lot of water left over which is a pain and it’s interesting to hear your issue with the hollowed prints!

Also gotta jeep in mind that 8k waterwashable is not as brittle as resin used in casting like smooth-on 305 or what Forge World is using. That stuff you can’t bend even half way of elegoo waterwashable

Thank you for the review. I just purchased an 8K printer and I'm in an apartment. The alcohol cleaning phase has me a bit concerned about odor, so it was nice to hear about this stuff.
Also if you have a large open container full of alcohol, it will evaporate and the vapor is flammable.
Im new to printing . But tried SirayaTech Simple Clear for my first bottle . Very brittle stuff but curing I can see where the light can cure down to the core . I question if grey and other colors just hit the surface more and the core doesn't get cured as well . One piece came out and after a day the sides warped . But I am unsure as whats best to use . Washing I have taken to using a mix of Mr Clean Multi-Purpose Summer Citrus Liquid Cleaner and water .
I've literally just done my first print yesterday with Sirayatech, but it's in grey and so far seems good. I haven't printed with clear resin yet as I've heard it's harder to get right, but I will give it a go some time in the future. Currently my go to is Elegoo ABS Like resin, but I'm trying out SirayaTech now so hopefully I'll have an idea of how that performs vs the Elegoo one I use.
Priming and painting will mitigate cracking due to dehydration by sealing the print.
Or did you wait weeks _before_ priming?
I don't know, do people usually flex their minis? Because I don't so... I think I'll go for the water washable resin
It was more meant to be a test to show that if you knocked a weapon etc, but I've changed how I review resins now with a drop test instead since that's a more likely scenario.

Thanks very much for your review! I've been using Elegoo WW resin exclusively since I have a toddler in my house and wanted to minimize the amount of chemicals I have to worry about.
However, I have been having trouble with pieces warping. I might have the issue narrowed down to the pieces warping after washing with water but before/during curing.
How do you dry your prints after you wash them, but before you cure them? And have you run into any warping issues since posting this video?
I've not seen any warping issues. One thing I do is cure my prints in water. Means I need less time curing and apparently helps to maintain some durability. SinceI've started doing this I've had some really nice clean results.

Hello, after a year, how are the miniatures ? how was the smell during printing ?
Someone on another video mentioned that if you leave the print in water for more than 5 minutes it gets super brittle. That seems to be the trick.
How long did you wash and how long for curing?

I'm based in the North of England and wondered how you find disposing of the dirty resin water? I find most people who recommend leaving it to evaporate live in warmer countries! I'm going to swap to IPA to wash from now on but still have the dirty water to get rid of
It's really tricky because the only time I've had it was through the crazy hot summer we had, so wasn't an issue. I've mostly been using IPA because I use ABS like resin as my main resin, and it ends up being easier to get rid of.
Bends way more than I would expect. I think it will be more than adequate for my 10mm napoleonics
What settings did you run on your Mars 3? I use WW ceramic grey for (probably too many) my models and find them significantly more brittle than you've managed to achieve. What cure times are you using after?
I'm almost certain I ended up using the same settings I use for my ABS like resin. Exposure time is 2.5s Bottom exposure time 30s. I cure them in the Mercury wash and cure machine for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Hope that helps.

Struggling with Elegoo Waterwashable resin on the saturn 2.
Using the recommended exposure settings isn't helping.
Where is the best place to get advice?
I believe they have a facebook group where people often share their experiences with different resins.

Is durability that much of an issue? I'd imagine you're never going to drop your figures and if you did it would be less than 4 ft and be fine
Please let me know if I'm off base with that thought.
The 1st Resin I brought for the new Elegoo Saturn 2 printer I got now was the Elegoo Water Based Resin because I worry about smells and odors and also saving on pricey IPA.
The resin is the Mint Green one and looks great But still smells even with the huge red cover over the printer
and also even with the plug in bigger carbon filter unit which plugs in to the back left corner of the base unit inside the cover. and powered by the special usb there.
Really smelly even with it running, The filter carbon block is 2.5 times taller then the re-chargeable version you shown before!
But don't seem to work? and the plastic bag was taken off the carbon block 1st and the power green LED on the filter unit is on as well.
The resin is good but damn smelly even though it is water washable. Oh Yes the water washable resin costs more than the normal resin.
I ordered the new V2 Elegoo wash & Cure as it said it was the bigger volume than the Mercury X?
Nope I just looked it up again and the older two unit Mercury X system is 30% bigger volume than the newer V2 unit.
So My V2 be here the 28th December 2022, I will return it unopened and order the original two unit Mercury system now I seen the volume is bigger in the Mercury X after all?
Cost me £40 more to get it but with my Saturn 2 build area being huge around 2 inches bigger than the Saturn in all 3 axis. I have to have the biggest system to clean and cure going!
Try siraya tech fast navy grey with 100-150ml siraya tech tenacious per bottle st fast ... good details and flexible

Ppl who complain about cracking leaving a model air dry for too long. Right after washing a miniature has to be dried with hair drier and cured right away
5:20 theres a bug behind your left shoulder, on my screen its the right shoulder, A BUG! Looks like a horse fly or something.
That’s the problem with doing videos in my garage 😂 There are some absolute beasts out there.
i have the 8k water washable resin by elegoo and its incredible but its very very fragile. thats the 1 downside of it,
I've just tested out the standard 8k resin and it was a lot more fragile than my usual resins I use. However, it looks amazing.
WW isnt durable at all. Ive had some break just picking them up in a group of units. Really good for display items not so good for every day usages.

Am i the only person who likes the smell of IPA?
It's not bad in small amounts, it smells like "cleanliness". But many people report headaches from inhaling the fumes.
My experience : a very easy resin to work with not having to use IPA to clean your model . However once cured , I found it to be very brittle . For display purposes , this is not a problem … but if it’s something like a miniature, that’s going to be handled for gaming I would think twice .
"there was cracking" haha those reviews are likely from users who broke their own models or did so without knowing and thought it was the resin.. there is no way Elegoo would sell resin that would cause the end result to crack lol..

Pulling my hairs out with Elegoo WW. Gloopy and really difficult to wash leaving a lot of residue on the surface.. Also brittle as buggery and splits if hollowed too thin. Have bought some Anycubic WW to see if that's any better. How did you wash it?
