Suzuki V-Strom C46 Error Code

Bike: 2015 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 Desert Edition with Arrow aftermarket can.
FI: C46 - EXCVA Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Materials: 12mm spanner, WD40

First let me aplogise for the quality of the video. It was my first attempt at showing how to diagnose and fix something on the bike. I was holding the mobile with one hand and trying to do the work with the other while I was being screamed at by the female of the species to remove the old wahing machine and plumb in the new one 😭 😂.
Earlier in the week I noticed the red FI light had come on and FI was also flashing on the insrtrument panel, so today I put the bike in dealer mode (not shown as there are loads of videos available showing how to do it) and read the error as C46 which basically is exhaust valve malfunction.
I tool the valve cover off and it was stuck and not moving. It should freely move when you turn it with your fingers. Applied loads of WD40 and played a little with it and left it for a few minutes. As can be seen the valve started to turn when turning with the fingers. It was also freely turning at startup and when giving the throttle a bit of a twist.
The cables also needed tightening which I did later in the day (not shown here).
This was my first attempt at filming a fix. Next time I shall use a better camera and a tripod.

Thanks for video,do you know what is that part for,i bought my Vstrom recently,after watching your video i found c46 error because of this one and i realised it is rusted and cables off by previous owner,can you explain what is this use for and what you call this part.Thanks

Hi, it basically controls the butterfly valve in the exhaust. The valve opens and closes when you twist the throttle. It reduces the sound emitted from the exhaust and supposedly helps reduce emissions (although I am not too sure whether it really does). It also helps with the power. Some people take it off as they claim it gives them around 2-3 hp more power.

I use to do that, but this time, it doesnt fix error.. and it seems really locked... it doesnt move anymore.. what could i do ? I have to change it ? Moreover the cables are tight and have no play...

Check to see whether you can loosen the 2 bolts holding the cables and adjust the cable. Once you have it just right you can tighten the bolts again

Did this really fix the issue? Mine keeps on appearing and going away. Plus, WD40 will smoke a lot, I'm not sure how safe it is.

It is quite possible your cables are slipping. In that case you will need to tighten the cables.
