Ive owned a fj40 landcruiser since the 1980s. Its my off road play toy. Back in 1994 I swapped out the Toyota inline 6 of a 350 chevy. I really wish I'd kept the i6 as it just chugged and would go through almost anywhere I went. So Merdcedes dropping the v8 for a i6 might be a good thing.
I had same point of view towards G550. I ordered one last year in June, they told me I can get it on sept, but been delayed till now. It just shipped out and mine became 2024 model. Especially I actually love g550 outlook than g63. Cleaner, high brush guard, practicality and reliable
well, we know G is of course over price at this moment. but it is enough for my daily use. I assume it is more smooth than g63, suspension should be more comfy too. @@georgiafan6618
As an owner of several G Wagons, let me give you the background information. In 1971 (53 years ago), the Mercedes G Wagon was designed and created by Daimler Mercedes and several Iranian (Persian) engineers at the specific request of the King of Iran (Persia) Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. This was a secret project until February 1979. The G Wagon was initially intended to be a military vehicle exclusive to Iran (Persia) and it was never intended to be commercialized to be used by the civilian population. Due to the 1978 revolution in Iran, the Mercedes G Wagon was never delivered to Iran and stayed at the Mercedes factory for over a year. Since Mercedes was left with thousands of military-style vehicles (G Wagon), they couldn’t sell them to the general population. During that one year, Mercedes took away a lot of the Iranian military equipment, repainted the G Wagons with different commercial paints, and in February 1979 (45 years ago), introduced the G Wagon to the world. The father of the G Wagon is rooted in Iran (Persian), and today, we would not have the G Wagon accessible to us had the 1978 Iranian revolution didn’t occur. So, we owe our deepest gratitude to the Iranians (Persians) for the G Wagon.
How do you know this engine is more reliable? This is the same V8 in every V8 Mercedes right no. Yes same engine in the G63 but tuned differently plus some other specific detail changes, but how do you know this version is more reliable? Where are you getting this from? Tons of unsourced misinformation here. Is there anything that points to Mercedes' I6 not being reliable? It's been in a use a few years now in varying outputs. It will likely have more hp than the V8, but not torque.
Hello Ben Hardy! I love the honest review and the cars you post. Could you please do a 2007 subaru forester xt 2.5 automatic stock please. It would be my dream for you to do this car. Thank you!
I do love the G-class.infact I would love to have it as my only vehicle for the rest of my remaining life.,but I don't understand why it has to have a gas V8 engine?,I mean for what it is it's just supposed to have a diesel engine coz that's what suits it's character/heritage.id definitely have a 400d over the V8s.
Your videos are good, but I wish you were more than the Vanna White of car reviews. Driving around the lot wasnt that much different than your usual driving around the block.
Boo. Ben's reviews are great and the vast majority involve fairly long drives. I'm sure the dealer limited this one because of the demand and cost of the car. Blame him, not Ben..:)
@@atombomb6719 I have owned a few Mercedes. There's always something that has to be done. Thus filter, that oil pump, this and that....Mercedes Benz labor charges are at minimum $150 per hour. Always added up at the end of the year
Mercedes has REVERSED their decision on EV’s and are going back to the glorious V8!!! They have decided electric vehicles are NOT the answer and are re embracing fossil fuel vehicles!💪🏼😎
2025..... you can still get V8, but with the G63.... straight 6 should be pretty good though with 375 hp..... saw video out of Europe on 2025 versions and they're even nicer....and have all the newer tech in them.
$174k? That's a hard pass for me. That's$40k more than my GLE AMG63s which is roomier and more powerful. I'll never understand the appeal of this thing. Speaking of "Things" I never understood that either..:)
The G Wagons were once military vehicles. Just like the Willies were in WW2. These G Wagon use far sturdier materials than any other MB vehicle, and also a more reliable engine. hence the price

Mercedes G wagon looks good and there boxy suv you can take it from Colorado to Utah and back home
Those front seat look beautiful
Personally I like some color and chrome. An all blacked out vehicle is ideal for a hearse.
V8 is must
Way to Ben......Your wife is going to love this - great choice to replace the land cruiser.
Yeah right, in her dreams perhaps.
Will the 2025 G63 receive interior system upgrades?
Respect
I almost bought this, but didn’t like the power. So went with a Rogue. Much better.
Should've gone with the Kicks
Makes sense. I cross shop Nissan & Benz all the time.

That payload capacity is pretty darn low for a truck... Then again I guess most of its payload is going to be LV handbags and Costco doodads

Omg theyre getting rid of every v8
So what they doing now to replace the V8 - a turbo charged 2 cylinder ?? 🤣🤣
A good point unnoticed by consumers engine stress & reliability
All this for $10k a year maintenance
143k for this nahh not worth it and it's not even a touch screen 💀🙏
Too rich for my blood- this is a rugged military vehicle- 10k is overkill

Yeah but this car hold its value but gle never can't. So it is smart to get this if you have $$$

The G550 is so ugly it is beautiful! Also drove the diesel / hybrid version while offroading in Germany, what an AWESOME offroad vehicle.
With we got the diesel here
Slow it down a bit, thanks.
rear seats for legless people
Legless kids, no adult, can fit 😅
Is that a forrestautoreviews reference 🤣
174k and you don't even get a touchscreen. Yea ok Mercedes.
At least you get a backseat that legless people will love.
Yeah, kill the V8 & start making V12 again 😅
No massage seats ? Hm scam
It has them
Buy some bitcoin now and sell later to get a G wagon. Easy win.😂
Just get a new lexus gx550
Looking a bit tired there
