I would take the G580 but I prefer the look of the g63's 22inch wheels, its grill, its body coloured headlight surround, its polarised windscreen & its spare wheel so I would have to change those aspects. Interesting point regarding the g580's highway energy consumption. Personally when I drive my EQS I use adaptive cruise control and I get good range by turning off certain features. I think a trip on the highway at 60mph in the G580 or any car would be too slow. I would like to know what the g580's range would be at 65mph or 67mph as that's a perfect speed to cruise long distance and still be able to overtake trucks and vans. Pls cover this next time you review the g580, otherwise I loved this review. Very informative 👏
Thank you for your good video. We have the 2024 G450d, but I would never describe the windnoise at 130 kmh as " really loud". No you can hear a little windnoise from the windshield but you don´t have to raise the voice ! It is absolutely ok with 140 and even 150 kmh re. the noise. It is nice to drive at long distance Autobahn rides. By the way with the G450d we have an average consumption of 8,1 L Diesel at 100km also incl. german Autobahn. We are very very happy with the G. Only negative point so far : the ugly standard " Limousine " Design piano-black steering wheel with the touch control. This touch control does not really work easily in daily life. We have a small "Short" presentation of our G450d Professional at youtube
I am sure when people buy a G wagon, they are looking to buy for a status not the other parameters such as efficiency, value for money etc. So, they will go straight to G63
Efficiency implies that the car is squeezing out as much performance as possible. Not just an MPG thing. Prius for example was 120hp@50mpg from 2010-2022. Now it's 220hp@50mpg. That's efficient.
Thank you Thomas and Lia for an amazing review! Especially appreciated how you included driving impressions for the 500/550, 63, and 580. The picnic idea with the charging cable box is ingenious. 😀 Glad the traditional spare tire is available for the electric version, as is the conventional grill - at least with the European configurator. For those of us in North America, it will be interesting to see what trim options will be offered beyond the initial special edition models. Personally I think the black plastic around the headlights makes the front end look cheap. Think Mercedes did an excellent job with revising the gas powered models, addressing many of the shortcomings of the W463a/W464 series while keeping what people love about this vehicle. Thanks again for a fantastic video and keep up the terrific work!
Everyone loves G wagon, but not many can afford it. What a shame they didn't continue with a GLK 2008 model like a smaller G wagon. Till like 2010 they had so many different desings and thats what I like about Mercedes, but in the last decade more or less only one.
In my opinion, the G-Wagon is so unique I would only compare the different models to each other. Most reviewers like to do acceleration tests, sports car handling tests, etc. In my mind, it's great for short jaunts to the store where you may need lots of trunk space, but primarily for off road in luxury. For carrying lots of people via long highway trips, there are many better suv choices.
21:00 this is just crazy, look at Kalei how he holds the road!!! Gelik is Gelik so there is no need to whine here that it is electric and that it has audio. For those who like the sound of an angry Zeus there is a v8 version! I hope in tests with electric .he won’t knock his competitors into the dirt! 35:22 Wow, what a “voice” G-roar button, but in Mat’s test it wasn’t like that! So it’s not all that bad! 42:05 Consumption is also good! That is, if you drive in city mode for 60-80 km, you can drive up to 500 km/23 kWh Well, if you drive 130 km, then about 280 km/40+ kW.h... I think the G63 will travel 130 km + - the same amount!
Mention please if the seat can still move to the rear when you seat as well as you mention there is room above the head. If there is no more move to the rear, should say is not convenient for more than 189 tall.

in europe in march 2024 they were down -8% .Almost 300,000 new electric cars were registered in Europe in March, making up about 21% of the total car market (which is down a bit from 23% last year).
thank you for the review. I am surprised that you didn't more heavily consider the diesel,, probably they didn't have one to drive. But more torque, than the six gas version, better mileage and with the optional dynamic response shocks, would most likely have less roll than the six gas without the option. In probably six months, maybe longer, Mercedes will offer their latest battery tech with far extended range. Tend to think that the resale value of this current E version will take a hit.
A go anywhere car which is essentially tied to the charger network you might as well imagine an 100 mile long electric cable coming out the back that's as far as you go away from a charging point 😂.
You can offroad this for an entire day. You can do the Schöckl course over 13 times on one battery. That's the height difference equivalent of Mount Everest. Combustion cars meanwhile are super inefficient when offroading.
the fact that Thomas mentions cars not having animal alternative options is a bad thing is so near and dear to me. i wish we had complete vegan options, and a lot of them, for those of us who would like them.
There's one common sense thing we all should know if you don't I'll give you a heads up,gas and oil isn't going nowhere anytime soon if you think so you'll die thinking
Great video, Thomas - you never fail to give your honest, no-BS view on every car you test. Question though - are you SURE you were referring to the Design Box when you were saying "it might get really hot"...??? Your girlfriend (?), Lia, looked super-cute on this shoot... 😉
I really like the leather interior - especially the additional super thick leather interior roof lining that you can get. Why get animal free when you buy this type of car?
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary: th-cam.com/video/-8gNXlRGngA/w-d-xo.html
They should've made the EV580 a hybrid... I will never buy an EV only vehicle but I understand those who do. Here in the northeast US you'll find yourself out of energy often.

What missing in Mercedes cars digital rear view mirror!
That g580 has to be tamed down, because if it had full access of the 859 ft/torque, with race start, would destroy the g63 and no one would buy it
thank you for the review.
A diesel all the way .

Best❤❤❤❤

the fact that Thomas mentions cars not having animal alternative options is a bad thing is so near and dear to me. i wish we had complete vegan options, and a lot of them, for those of us who would like them.
thanks for the support !
There's one common sense thing we all should know if you don't I'll give you a heads up,gas and oil isn't going nowhere anytime soon if you think so you'll die thinking
It's tank turn and it eats the tire
The acceleration tickled Lia's G-Spot?
Finally you revealed your height 😅
Great video, Thomas - you never fail to give your honest, no-BS view on every car you test.
Question though - are you SURE you were referring to the Design Box when you were saying "it might get really hot"...???
Your girlfriend (?), Lia, looked super-cute on this shoot... 😉

Isn't even a competition.
Which ever one she likes is the one that I like, and would be the one I would get.
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html

For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:

In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
