Remember you don't have to go there. Purgatory can be avoided. St Therese the little flower spoke about how we can avoid it. God is offended greatly if we assume we will go there. We need to trust more and desire not to go there. Her words were so enlightening about how to avoid it. Check it out for yourself. God bless.

redcandy 45 I, as a drug addict in recovery (5 years from opiate painkillers I) and being divorced (from a rage full man of 25 years who literally screamed at me on a daily basis) have no illusions about Purgatory. I just “assumed “ that because of my past immoral escapades back in my 20s , That that’s where I’m headed EVEN THOUGH today, every day, I lead a chaste, clean and sober lifestyle. Believe me when I say: I’ve atoned for my grievous transgressions BIG TIME-I shrug and say “it is what it is” 🤷‍♀️I did it to myself; a bit of Purgatory here on earth. (I just thank God I was never arrested and have a clean record!-so far..) walk “the narrow path “ everyday, and it IS my strongest intention to live “in imitation of Christ “ and be aware of my shortcomings; “character defects “ as we say “in the rooms.” God bless you all. Great, inspiring sermon. My biggest shortcomings are lack of patience, and being over sensitive. Any anger I have most usually stems from HURT. I pray for the person I’m annoyed or hurt by , and it does help...sorry for rambling...

That is because it is not the truth!! Be very careful what you listen to. Man brought denomination to combine with salvation. Because man wanted recognition.
There was no denomination in the Bible!! They met in the upper room
Later on they referred to the Church at Antioch. No denomination!!. We are in the last days. The Bible is about Jesus who died for our sins.

@@BobooShippy-qr7jy Jesus + Nothing = Salvation. He paid the price for our sins. Not a priest!! The Bible talks about Him dying for our sins even though He had no sins. It refers to Him as the Lamb because He was the substitute. He was the atonement. And as far as confessing my sins, it is on my knees praying to Him for forgiveness, and then I repent. That means change. The Bible has no church in it with a denomination on it. From the beginning to the end.

    • @dwong9289
      @dwong9289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@vitsunagayoutubevny3779 That's not true. Salvation is based on whether or not your are in a state of sanctifying grace or mortal sin upon death. If you are baptized your actual and original sins are washed away by the Precious Blood of Christ. However, if you commit mortal sins afterwards, you must confess your sins to a validly consecrated priest who acts in persona Christi to get your sins forgiven.
Proof of Confessing Sins to Catholic Priest:
This comes from John 20:23, "Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." Lord Jesus said this to the apostles, who gave authority to those who follow their lineage (the Catholic Church.)
Proof that salvation is not faith alone:
Furthermore, we see in Matt 7:21 "Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven." So, just claiming that Jesus is Lord is not enough. In 1 Corinthians 6:9 we hear, "Know you not that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers." Lord Jesus Himself says that, "But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart" in Matt 5:28. So, if you have lusted, you committed adultery, and are in mortal sin and shall not enter into heaven. You can get your sins forgiven if you confess them to a priest (like Jesus says in John 20:23). However, if you die in a state of mortal sin, you will be condemned as 1 Corinthians 6:9 says. Even in James 2:24 we hear, "Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?" So, the Protestant heresy of sola fide is clearly wrong. So, having a personal relationship with God (which is necessary), is still not enough. You need to have a personal relationship with God and also be in a state of sanctifying grace. Protestants, like yourself, do not confess sins to priests who were given authority from Jesus, so your sins are retained and unless you convert and confess them, then you will most likely not enter into the kingdom of God (unless the Lord Jesus grants you the gift of a final act of perfect contrition, but you should not risk on matters concerning eternity because there is only one chance.) Considering the fact that you have probably lusted (whether that be fornication, masturbation, or just lustful thoughts) since you have been baptized, you are objectively in a state of mortal sin. So, you need to convert and enter the church through RCIA.
      Proof of the Papacy:
So, what church you enters does matter, since the Catholic Church is the only Church given authority by Lord Jesus. In Matt 16:18 -19 we see Jesus say, "And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven." As we see St. Peter is given the unique teaching authority by Lord Jesus. Whatever he teaches will be added or loosened from heaven, which is a Divine Authority. This authority has been passed down generation from generation to the Catholic Church.
In conclusion, the Lord Jesus is calling you to His Holy Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation. He wants you to know the truth because He desires the salvation of all people. He knows you are in heresy and has inspired me to send this message for your own good. Now it is up to you whether or not you will answer His call. You can either harden your heart and allow your pride to prevent you from the truth, or you can seek and find His Holy Will.

Good point, but limbo was never doctrinal teaching, as far as I know, but only pious thought from St. Thomas Aquinas, and probably others. However, purgatory is scriptural and doctrinal. Moreover, how do we justify the fact that souls in purgatory have appeared to people asking for Mass to be celebrated for them and other forms of prayers and penances. Furthermore, different saints have had visions of purgatory.

    • @georgepenton808
      @georgepenton808 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I personally still believe in Limbo, and actually believed in it long before I became Catholic. We know we can't go to Heaven except by God's grace. We know we get grace by Baptism. So unbaptized babies can't go to Heaven. But they can't go to Hell or Purgatory because they haven't committed any personal sins. So they must go to Limbo, a place of natural happiness where there is no suffering, disease, or sin. The only difference between Limbo and Heaven is that the souls in Limbo never get to see God face to face. In my personal opinion God never lets a baby die unbaptized unless He knows that that baby would grow up to live a bad life and lose his or her soul.
The reason the good thief on the cross did not go to Purgatory is thst Jesus gave him a plenary indulgence.

In Lord's prayer jesus remindes us to recieve forgiveness we have to forgive no matter how hard and what it may cost....in this wordly life we assume we are not bad as to go to pugatory or to hell...so we often forget to repent and also we justify what we do...but the thief on the right didn't justify what he did and he accepted his suffering not like the left side thief... also we learn from the parable the sinner and the pharasee that sinner is repenting and accepting that he was a sinner while the pharasee was boasting and judging making him self a righteous one. ..when we repent jesus cleansing and purifyng our hearts from stains of sins, guilt, and shame (we become born again With the Holy Spirit)..remember jesus has taught it....that is how we receive the forgiveness ...forgiven soul is no liable to purgatory...Jesus told Mary Magdaleen "sin no more" now she is a saint... Sacramental life and the Holy scripture always make us closer to God...our part is to belive in them and lead our lives accordingly...and to hope and desire the heaven..which very thoughts distract us from the worldly things...souls who dont repent and had not recieved forgiveness before their death need purgatory to be cleansed in order to reach heaven...God is mercy ful and Just... May Holy Spirit pour on you more and more !!!

Is purgatory real? Not according to the Catholic Church. For instance, after reviewing what Catholic writers have said regarding such texts as 2 Maccabees 12:39-45, Matthew 12:32, and 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, the New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. XI, p. 1034) acknowledges: “In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not Sacred Scripture.” U.S. Catholic, March 1981, p. 7 adds: “The church has relied on tradition to support a middle ground between heaven and hell."

      In the Old Testament
Prior to Christ’s Resurrection, all who died went to “hell”; however, the just went to a place in hell referred to as “Abraham’s bosom,” where they would be comforted until the gates of heaven were opened. The parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Lk 16:19-31) indicates that there were two parts of hell. Both Lazarus and the rich man died and went to hell, but Lazarus was comforted in Abraham’s bosom while the rich man was in a place of torment. A great chasm separated the two parts. Christ opened the gates of heaven for those in Abraham’s bosom when he descended into hell after his death.
In 2 Samuel 12:13-18, it states, “David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the Lord.’ And Nathan said to David, ‘The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child that is born to you shall die.’ And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became sick…On the seventh day the child died.”
What do we see here? David sins. David realizes he has sinned. David repents. David is forgiven - the Lord “put away” his sin. Yet, David receives punishment for his sin after he has been forgiven - his child dies.
So there is the possibility of punishment for sin even after one has received forgiveness.

Let’s move now to the New Testament. Revelation 21:27 says, “But nothing unclean shall enter it…” This is referring to the New Jerusalem - Heaven.
Nothing unclean - nothing, in other words, with the stain of sin - will enter Heaven.
More Scripture. Hebrews 12:22-23, “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem...and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect…” Notice, it speaks of the “spirits” of just men (who, as Catholics would say, are those that died in a state of grace), who are in Heaven, and who have been “made perfect.”
So there is a way, a process, through which the spirits of the “just” are “made perfect.”
We read 1 Corinthians 3:13-15: “…each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day [judgment day] will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation [Jesus Christ] survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”
Where is this place that a man, after he dies, has his works tested, and could suffer loss, as through fire, but still be saved? Hell? No, once you’re in Hell, you don’t get out. Heaven? No, you don’t suffer loss as through fire in Heaven. It must be somewhere else.
Hence, there is a place, or state of being, other than Heaven or Hell.
To sum up there is the possibility of punishment for sin even after one has received forgiveness. Nothing with the stain of sin will enter Heaven. There is some way, or process, by which the spirits of the just are made perfect. And there is a place besides Heaven or Hell where you can suffer loss, yet still be saved, but only as through fire. We’ve just, in essence, described Purgatory. As a side note you won’t find explicitly the word Purgatory just as you won’t find the word Trinity or Incarnation it’s implied mean to purge, cleans or to purify. God bless

Scripture knows nothing of purgatory. If purgatory were real, Jesus and His apostles would have been very clear about it. Salvation is intentionally simple. Trust in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. We, as sinners bring nothing to the table regarding our salvation. Jesus did it all.

First, there are ghosts. Jesus said so in Luke 24:39. Next, the existence of purgatory is not a declaration of the inadequacy of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Rather, it is an extension of His Divine Mercy. His death and resurrection renewed man's access to God and His kingdom which was previously cut off due to the original sin of Adam and Eve. That is what Jesus overcame: eternal death due to sin. However, that doesn't mean that all we need to do is believe this for us to be saved. We CANNOT BE SAVED by FAITH ALONE. That is the heresy of Martin Luther: "sola fide", justification by FAITH ALONE. No. "Faith without works is dead." (James 2:26).
The Bible says that even the just man sins seven times. And that nothing unclean shall enter heaven (Rev 21:27). So what happens if you die with venial sins?
I Corinthians 3:11-15 may well be the most straightforward text in all of Sacred Scripture when it comes to Purgatory:
"For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble-each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire."
That fire is purgatory- it's a merciful cleansing after physical death like a forge that reshapes our souls into what it was prior to the disfigurement caused by sin. This doesn't apply to unrepented MORTAL sins. That soul goes directly to hell forever.

I recommend that you read about indulgences. You can get a plenary indulgence that can wipe out all temporal punishment. A plenary indulgence remits sins through the merits of Jesus on the cross and the merits of the saints. The Church offers a plenary indulgence for many different things and partial indulgence you just have to make the intention to gain the plenary indulgence before you say the prayers. For example one rosary is granted a plenary indulgence when said in Church or with family look up the rest of the examples in the official manual for indulgences. you have to satisfy the necessary conditions you have to receive the Holy Eucharist, confession, pray for the Holy Father and his intentions, and be detached from attachment to all sin even venial sin. Even if all these conditions are not met you still receive a partial indulgence this can eliminate a great deal of your purgatory if not all of it depending on whether your attached with the affection for sin. You can offer indulgences for yourself or a deceased loved one. Indulgences are given because it's a humble way on not relying on yourself but on asking for the merits that Jesus Christ won on the cross and the merits of the Saints. Look into indulgence there very important and hardly ever preached about.

Purgatory is the state where the Holy Spirit purifies people who are saved but who still need to repent of their particular sins.
1 Cor 3:15 - “he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.”
Lk 12:59; I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”
1 Pet 1:7; These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Heb 12:6-11 - because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son
Rev 21:27 - nothing unclean shall enter heaven
Heb 12:23 - souls in heaven “having been made perfect.”
Col 1:24 - Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.
The bible verses clearly show a state where souls need to be purified in order to enter Heaven.

      Objection to Matthew 5:25-26
First, Jesus is not speaking about a spiritual prison after death but a physical prison before death. The previous verses makes the context clear: “settle with your opponent quickly while in the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand over you to the judge… and you will be thrown in prison”
To be sure Jesus is not speaking of mere external of things but of the spiritual matters of the heart (21-22). However, nothing in the context warrants the conclusion that he intended the concept of a “prison” to refer to a place (or process) of purgation for sins in the next life, which is what one would have to conclude if this passage is made is made to speak of purgatory. Even orthodox catholic cardinal Ratzinger shy away from the prison image of purgatory, claiming it is not “some kind of supra worldly concentration camp.”

      Objection to 1 Corinthians 3:12-15
Here Paul is speaking of believers who will one day be given a “wage” (v. 14) for their service to Christ. The texts say nothing about believers suffering temporal consequences for their sins in purgatory. They are not burned in the fire; only their works are burned. Believers see their works burn but they escape the fire.

Just my opinion, but I believe this is a fantastic teaching for pleading the blood of Jesus to cover our sins. This of course means that first we would have to acknowledge what our sins are. I do believe this is a problem today where people think they are good, but they are far from good. People justify their wicked behavior and don't even see it as wicked, such a tragedy! Therefore, go to confession, write down your sins before you go, and ask God to bring them to mind so that you can confess them and plead the blood of Jesus over them!. And let's not forget what the church does not teach so much about today but Jesus did, except this website, and that would be reparation! For all these sins against others...horrible bosses, unjust wages paid, gossip ruining reputations, what have we done in reparations or payback for these people that we have harmed so very severely! I'm one of these people and been greatly damaged. I offer these up to the glory of God, but WOE to these self righteous ones.

Reason 1. It is not in mentioned by name or its concept anywhere in the Old or New Testaments.
Reason 2. Its very concept is in direct opposition to the Gospel itself. God's plan for humanities redemption was to send His Son for a propitiation for sins by dying on a cross. This pays for sin and infuses righteousness to the believer. It is the gift of God, to be received by faith. Purgatory means that Christ's work does not adequately defeat sin and death, but only partially. And it is on you to make atonement.

Ok I’m trying to understand the catholic faith coming from a Protestant back ground and have concluded that 99% of the negative views on the catholic faith is a misunderstanding of misinformation. But I cannot wrap my mind around the concept of purgatory. In short Jesus came and died for our sins. God looks down and doesn’t see us he sees Jesus carrying our sin. Even if that is a false teaching, Jesus did die for our sins. You’re patently staying that Jesus’s death wasn’t good enough. That the sacrifice of Christ was not good enough for our sins. I’ve accepted and agreed that Mary shall be respected, do not believe she is the queen of Heaven, but she is important to the scripture. I’ve come to agree that Jesus did tell the disciples that they are the rock and to go out and “do what I do” giving them permission to forgive, heal, teach. I haven’t gotten to the point of praying to them yet because Jesus is the son of man. He’s not taking messages. The apostles aren’t his middle men. They were used to spread the gospel and are the foundation of the church. Respects given. And I do believe strongly that most Protestants don’t believe, in outside sources of information. Protestants seem to say the the Bible is the only God sent text. I think the Catholics call it like a dagma or something. I’m not sure. But this concept of purgatory stating that you will be punished for your sins, to be cleansed before entering heaven, makes sense. It really does. But by saying so you’re discrediting the purpose of Jesus’s sacrifice. Someone please @ me and TEACH me so that I can make a valid opinion on this

Purgatory is a figment of the Catholic Church's imagination.
The work for which Jesus came into our human life was to "make atonement for the sins of the people" ( Heb 2:17 ) and this he did when "he sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself" ( 7:27 ). Hebrews develops this theme in detail, showing the death of Christ to be the fulfillment and the replacement of the sacrifices of Old Testament times. When in the different strands of New Testament testimony we have reference to the "blood" of Christ, that word speaks of his sacrificial death (e.g., Rom 5:9 ; Eph 1:7 ; 2:13 ; Col 1:20 ; 1 Peter 1:2 ; 1 John 1:7 ; 5:6 ; Rev 1:5 ; 5:9 ). Paul penetrates more deeply into the meaning of that sacrificial death as he speaks of it "as a sacrifice of atonement" ("as a propitiation" KJV), since, because Christ bore our sins, there was no longer the "passing over of sins, " but in what Christ did on the cross, God is shown to be "just and the one who justifies" those who have faith in Jesus. Human sins are not just swept aside as inconsequential; God's justice is shown in that they are borne by the sinless Son of God, and because they are borne, those who have faith in him are justified ( Rom 3:24-26 ). The same language of "propitiation" is used in 1jo 2:2 and 4:10.We have noticed the place that Hebrews gives to the understanding of the sacrifice of Christ as making possible the making of a new covenant, a personal relationship with God based on forgiveness. This is an understanding that goes back to Jesus himself, in particular, to the way that he spoke at his institution of the Lord's Supper: "This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins" ( Matt 26:28 ; cf. Mark 14:24 ; Luke 22:20 ; 1 Col 11:25 ; Heb 13:20 ).
The question to you is if Christ died as a one time sacrifice for the sins of all humanity, and the Father forgave all sins, ones that had already occurred before Christ, those sins that were occurring when Christ died, and all future sins to occur, then why would anyone go to Purgatory?? ALL Sin had been forgiven by God the Father. Why this additional punishment of man in Purgatory? Christ sacrifice wasn't good enough? What an insult to Christ!
Ask a Priest to quote you any scripture that points to Purgatory. There isn't any. In fact the two often quoted passages by Priests are in fact refuted in the Catholic New American Bible.
Get a Bible if you don't already have one. The New American Bible(Catholic) is an excellent study Bible. It is important that you understand the Written Word of God. It is the only reference we have that was written through the Holy Spirit and was to be a guide for the Church and congregants.

It's sad when you believe a heretic called Martin Luther. You want Bible verses? Here they are:
In II Maccabees 12:39-46, we discover Judas Maccabeus and members of his Jewish military forces collecting the bodies of some fallen comrades who had been killed in battle. When they discovered these men were carrying “sacred tokens of the idols of Jamnia, which the law forbids the Jews to wear” (vs. 40), Judas and his companions discerned they had died as a punishment for sin. Therefore, Judas and his men “turned to prayer beseeching that the sin which had been committed might be wholly blotted out… He also took up a collection… and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering. In doing this he acted very well and honorably… Therefore he made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin.”
In Matthew 5:24-25, Jesus is even more explicit about Purgatory.
Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny (Matthew 5:25-26).
I Corinthians 3:11-15 may well be the most straightforward text in all of Sacred Scripture when it comes to Purgatory:
For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

Don't give me that typical "Believe in Jesus and you will be saved" rethoric. To believe in Jesus does not mean you just utter it in your mouth. Satans also believe in Jesus. They even know the old testaments when they tempted Jesus. Are they saved then? Judas also believed in Jesus eventhough he betrayed him for whatever reasons. Many disciples who believed in Jesus but left him in John :6:66. Once saved always saved right?

Will you be the same servant the rest of your life? Thats the challenge. When we die, what kind of servant each of us is gonna be? We dont know. But I hope not be the unfaithful one that is cast down to gehana. I want to be the faithful one so I can see Jesus face to face. If I fall between the two then I hope I get the light, not the severe, punishment and be purified before I am allowed to see Jesus face to face.

Would the Apostles just fold their hands ignoring what they had preached on earth to save us in tge first place? Would Mary, the theotokos, the mother of Jesus, just keep silent and not ask Jesus his mercy on us? No? How do you know? Do you ask your mom, dad, bros, sis, friends and others to pray for you? For your health, job, econ, fam, etc, etc? Why? Why ask them if you can ask God directly? Because they are alive human beings? Because the saints, Mary, Moses are dead? Funny. Who are more alive? Those already able to face and talk to Jesus in heaven or us on earth who aim to see and talk to Jesus when we die? Which one more ALIVE? WHAT is Dead and Not Dead?

J.M ***Just to Mention JM Believers in Christ Jesus do Not need to ask anyone Saint,or Pope or any one to pray for us (Mart**28:18**) because all was put in the Authority of the Son of Man**Jesus** and the Power he has is more than any Saint or Even Mary the mother of Jesus, He is the Christ the Saviour, To know Jesus is to Walk daily in him and keep his Commandments***

Jim Eckland it did save us. But we have actions to pay for too. He doesn’t get to do all the dying so you can do all the sinning. He said if you love Him keep His commandments and a lot more than

Sensus Fidelium "The A lot more than that is the issue"! We are to repent, follow him and his commandments. Being a Christian doesn't give us a license to sin, or that we can never lose our Salvation. I selected 7 of the Ante-Nicene writings, and there was no mention of Devotion to Mary.

@Dan C. You are totally lacking true knowledge. You must become Catholic to be saved.

@Dan C. You cannot be saved by Christ unless you are a Catholic. This is proven.

@Dan C. Furthermore "All those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews, or heretics, and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life, and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his Angels, unless they are joined to the Catholic Church before the end of their lives..." - Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, Cantante Domino 1441, Ex Cathedra.

Purgatory is a dangerous doctrine that makes the Cross of Christ insufficient by requiring the person to undergo suffering in order to be made worthy of being with God. This is a false teaching and is to be avoided. We are justified by faith (Rom. 5:1)--not by faith and works (Rom. 3:28). Jesus bore all our sins (1 Pet. 2:24). There are no sins left for purgatory to cleanse because it was all done by Jesus on the cross. This is why Jesus said, "It is finished!" (John 19:30).
So all of you, think about it!

You may spend more time in Purgatory for spreading lies. It is part of Divine Justice.

It could be that he died in a state of perfect contrition for his sins and received baptism of desire, so he didnt go to purgatory but idk
