    One thing that might benefit the legion more is that it uses faster RAM (5600) compared to the scar which uses 4800. Not sure what the razer uses (edit: just saw at the end of the video that the razer also uses 5600, but its performance is lower because of thermal throttling). This might be a reason why the legion performs quite well compared to the scar considering that it's a 13900HX vs 13980HX.

    • @consumertechwarehouse9381
      @consumertechwarehouse9381  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah!!! I thought about that as I was editing. The RAM is probably playing a bigger role. It's kind of a shame Asus doesn't offer 5600 MHz. The Alienware x16 has 6000. Interested to see if that makes a difference too

      To add more to this comment, the legion 9 with the 6400 mhz ram seems to be destroying other laptops. So RAM seems to be a big factor in performance. I’m returning my 64 gen legion 9 for the faster 32gb ram and can’t wait to do some testing.

    Apologies, but the Legion smokes the others on value. If I want a better screen for more extended use, I'll hook it up to a high-end monitor anyway. On the go, it's perfect!

    • @consumertechwarehouse9381
      @consumertechwarehouse9381  ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I definitely agree with that. I spend a lot of my time docked. But for those who don’t use a second screen, the scar’s mini led is substantially better. Some people travel a lot, live in a confined space or just don’t have the budget for a great monitor. The scar has everything you need except for maybe a mouse.
      Also I chose the scar because I really like how gamer focused it is in terms of design. The legion to me looks sterile except for the rgb. It looks too similar to my work laptop my company gave to me.
      But having said that, I’m on vacation and could only bring one, and I brought the legion lol. I felt I would need to get some work done and the smaller form factor and charger made me go with it.

    Fascinating video. I just ordered the Asus yesterday, and kept surfing for reviews today, as is tradition. I felt like you were putting down the Scar throughout this whole video and was very surprised you ended up picking that one in the end. :D Thanks for the great comparison video.
    Really feels like 4k is completely wasted on such a small screen, especially for gaming as it obviously reks your fps, even with high end gpus.

    • @consumertechwarehouse9381
      @consumertechwarehouse9381  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The thing is I wasn't trying to put down the scar. But at the end of the video I realized they hit all the right check points. It didn't get first place in any category, but everything combined as an overall package, it's the best. That's why a traditional point system won't work with these kinds of comparisons.

    I really appreciate you taking support into account, with almost no other gaming laptop reviewers do. This was the one deciding factor for me picking the Legion 7i Pro. During black friday deals, it was available at a t lower price point than the Asus, which would be my second choice, but for a measly $200 extra I got four years of on-site support next business day and accidental damage insurance. No matter all the other factors, agreeing that the Razer is superior built, more sturdy and all that, it comes with a double price tag, and with lousy support. It is just a no-contest. If you have the budget and want to show-off or get that extra feel, but under no other circumstances is the Razer worthwhile.

    I'm waiting on your opinion on MSI GT77 4090, and especially that 4k mini led. I have compared gt77 with ge67hx oled and raider looks better to me and surprisingly not big performance difference, I guess got something to do with resolution.

      Yeah, QHD, versus 4K makes a really big difference in performance. I definitely agree that the oled looks better. My perfect laptop would be the legion 7i with the razer blade screen. lenovo did everything so well but failed so badly on the screen that it made me return it. hated the key travel on the blade as well as the random button touches on the touchpad. messed up the user experience. the scar isnt really the best in many categories of the three but checks every box and does everything good, hence im typing this response from the scar.

      Compared to plastic on the other 2 laptops, aluminum is superior though right?. My dad is an engineer and builds enclosures out of steel and aluminum but I stay away from that stuff. @mmcjld08 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@consumertechwarehouse9381 I do want to say my comment wasn't meant to be a slight at you personally because this is an excellent video. It is just something that has bugged me since the early days of phone reviews. Especially with glass which may feel more premium but has greatly sacrificed phone durability and most people I know that don't watch tech videos hate that phone companies use on the back of phones (which I guess is why you see plastic is making a comeback especially with phones like basic S series for samsung). Back to aluminum. It is used because it's lightweight and much cheaper than other lightweight metals. It's easy to machine and because its a relatively soft metal it can be machined really fast, but with the exception of cast iron and steel it is the cheapest metal I work with (an example if there is a defect in a stainless steel casting we will take the time to reweld and remachine part so we dont have to scrap the casting. We scrap aluminum castings without a second thought). Stainless steel would be considered more premium but it's also much heavier and harder to machine. Titanium is a light weight metal and much more durable than aluminum, but It is more expensive and tougher to machine. Aluminum is probably the best choice to use in electronics but it is just a cheap material in "my world" lol so I find it amusing when it's called premium. I do think plastic is a great option in many situations though. It's really lightweight and can be incredibly durable and can lower production costs and thus lower the cost for the consumer(aluminum is definitely a better option in some areas though especially for the frame but using plastic in certain areas can lower cost as well as overall weight of the product without really much of a compromise to its structural integrity). It gets a bad wrap though because fair or not when people think plastic they think cheap. That's cool about your dad... I am currently in school for mechanical engineering, but I pay the bills right now as a machinist.
      Just an aside and not related to this video...it's also amusing when a big deal is made out of something being machined from a single piece of aluminum because machining wise that is way easier then trying to machine and hold tight tolerances for parts that have to fit together, but a lot of people know a lot more than me about certain things and may find things I say amusing as well so no disrespect intended.

    Hey i’m looking at either the scar or the legion. I really like the scar but have been worried about the coil whine. The legion is really good on value and apparently has minimal coil whine. I don’t want to pay all that for coup whine. I know it’s normal and isn’t bad but i just don’t want to pay that much when i can get the legion and have none. Have you encountered cool whine on any of them?

      I had a scar 18 and the coil whine went away on it's own after a while. I can't promise that'll happen with everyone, but it did with me. Also unless you plan on using the silent profile a lot, the fans drown out the sound and you can't hear it under load

      I’m out of town for a week so probably won’t be able to get back to you until next week Wednesday. The one thing I can’t get over is being screwed by companies. Asus fucked me on a pg32uqx when that came out at 3k I almost paid for that and after two exchanges they basically told me eat shit and that I was ruining them.
    Last year I tried again on G14 6700s models and took 9 tries to find one with an acceptable screen that didn’t come from the box with broken fans or bad screen bleed. 3 M16 to compare them
    This year it’s taken 3 G14 to have a solid out of box experience. I know all companies fail but for fucks sake asus failure rate is high and support is fucking terrible.
    The only worse company for support is razer. After burning away 4 grand in 2021 and waiting with my laptop in RMA limbo for 4 months I will never buy razer again.
    5ish years ago I had an Area 51 Alienware and boy that was great. I had a stuck pixel and they sent a tech out the next day and replaced my screen. 6 months later a led on my keyboard died. Tech came out again all free of charge and I ended up getting a whole new laptop. Best experience of service I’ve ever seen.
    Lenovo are the exact same way when I had got a 2021 5 pro one of my screen hinge was loud. They sent someone to me the same week and replaced the entire assembly no questions asked. Amazing.
    Now looking at all the options today I really really want a mini led option but I’ll be damned no company that actually has good service has one in the lineup (at least in the US yet).
    Count me the fuck in when the legion drops with mini led so I can rid myself of these QC trash ass laptops these days.

    Can you check something on the Razer that I haven't seen anyone mention or point out? When I had my Razer 16" (mini-led), there appeared to be a shadow on all the inside edges, especially on lighter backgrounds. For example, if I was on a website with a white background, you could easily see the "shadow" on the edges. I found it highly annoying. Turns out this seems to be an issue with most mini-led panels, including the MBP 16".
    If you don't mind, please pull up a white background and see if you can see what I am talking about. Also interesting, put on a full white background and you can see the whites are far from ideal. There seem to be all kinds of hot and dark spots. My OLED laptop, on the other hand, showed a completely stark white background from edge to edge.
    I was surprised by this as I had read how amazing the contrast and white/black levels are with mini-led.

      I think the legion looks like a generic laptop until the RGB kicks in. The razer looks like a premium professional device. Just my opinion

    I don´t know the trouble with the plastic cover because it´s far better to avoid getting burned the fingers with the high temps of these laptops. Also plastic is lighter than metal. Even if laptop falls to the ground, plastic is better at absorbing the impact while metal is rigid. I don´t understand why metal is better....

      I agree. I don't mind the plastic on the scar. But it feels extra cheap on the legion 7.

    Why did razer have to go and shoot themselves in the foot and not offer a mini led 1440p option. As a gamer I would never go for a 4k screen on a laptop, what a stupid option, even with the laptop 4090.

      You're not wrong. For gaming, qhd is still the sweet spot. But 4k does look very sharp and DLSS looks better in 4k than qhd. Overall I agree with you though.

      Legion has the lowest temps followed by the scar then the razer. The razer will get close to thermal throttling.
