    One interesting fact I've noticed about this Laptop is the Speakers. From factory, they don't sound very impressive. They lack bass, there's an uneven frequency response in the midrange and treble dies off pretty quickly. I have now installed Equalizer APO on my machine and implemented DynamiQ (A Plugin from Brads Hacks). I have made a custom equalizer profile for the Blade 16 and compared the results via a measurement of the frequency response:
    By default, the bass starts being usable at around 230Hz - There's a peak at 500-600Hz and frequencies in the 3-8KHz range are pretty quiet. Also, treble dies off at around 15KHz.
    After my mod, the frequency response is pretty much flat, starting at 150Hz and ending ad 16KHz.
    Comparing this result to the best sounding Laptop on the market today, the MacBook Pro 16 Inch, I can now confidently say that the Razer Blade 16 CAN sound as good as a MacBook, you just have to tune it yourself. I've had similar experiences with other laptops too, notably with the Matebook X Pro from 2020.

    I used to a huge fan of XTU but switched to throttlestop recently due to the bugs faced. XTU undervolt configuration doesn’t persists and will be zeroed after waking from sleep or hibernation. Furthermore profiles kept disappearing too and I often find the need to reimport my saved profiles after a system reboot. Throttlestop simply solves all these issues and it’s also a much lighter application as a bonus

    At 5:05, this is what I'll do, just limit the frequency to 3ghz and limit the GPU to 100watt and enjoy nice quite gaming :). Also, when you mention cooling pad, what I thought you'd get was the IETS GT500. It's really good, but a cost of loud fan noise lol

    • @Sachrial1
      @Sachrial1 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true. In addition mine even got hoter using a pad. I noticed that a pad pushed the hot air partly back into the body, due to the unique vents on the backside of the razer blade 16. If you have vents blowing from the under side upwarts, you need to make sure they do not blow air upwarts where the hot air comes out or else they block the hot air at least partly from coming out.

    Outstanding review thanks Dave. I'm so pleased that Razer listened & finally implemented the battery charging limiting. I really really want this one. Very interesting about the laptop stand too. I use one all the time, now I know they work just as well with the fans off I won't keep replacing them when the fans break (which they do around 14-20mths of daily use).

      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you mate. I was actually really disappointed with the cooling pads results! I expected it to perform better than just the Razer stand I currently use! Hi. Thx for the review. I saw on 12:25 when you were doing the cross-stress test, the blade went up to CPU: 35 W/ 82 C; GPU: 150 W/ 75 C and I was assuming that you used the custom boost+high preset (auto max fan speed)in Synapse. These numbers didn't look good as for the blade 15 (45 W + 90 W), the temps would be ~10 degrees lower at that same stupid 54 DB max fan mode. I'm quite curious how the machine would perform if left on the Balance mode (which better corresponds to the real use scenario), what would the powers be? (35 + 110 W?)How about the temperatures?

  • @xc3lsi0r16
    @xc3lsi0r16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if this was mentioned however the cooling pad looks like it sucks air and blows it downward. This means it is stealing airflow from underneath the laptop as the razer has intakes underneath and its exhaust in the rear. It explains why you saw no performance improvement. Based on how those fans are oriented on the cooling pad they would need to be the opposite direction blowing cool air into the laptop not taking it away.

    “Everyone” seems to bash Razer for one thing or another but other brands look like plastic, RGB junk. It also seems other competitors are having many issues with PC components failing due to poor assembly and software. When you look a Razers market share it’s understandable they get more complaints.

      Thank you mate, and I am glad you are enjoying your Blade 18 (I am jealous as I could only afford to get one in and chose the 16 but part of me wishes I chose the 18!) Razer do get a lot of hate and I think a lot of it is unwarranted. I have heard horror stories of their CS but I have had every blade since about 2018 and I cannot knock their build quality and design and they are getting better every year! The blade 16 and 18 are a massive step up over the 15 and 17 IMHO due to the extra thickness which I will take every time over thinness for the extra cooling and performance!

But if the system warns me about a low power charger, I am a bit vary to use usb c charging regularly. I fear my blade 16 might use the battery frequently during that time. That could decrease the lifetime of my sytem couldn't it?

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      In all honesty, it actually does the device good to have the battery regularly used. If you leave it at 100% power level and leave it constantly on charge whilst gaming you actually do more harm to the battery. This is also why Razer implemented a battery protector this year where you can stop the laptop charging constantly to 100%. Also I have been using mine regularly on PD with no issue and I really don't expect it to cause issues plus the laptop stays cooler as it is not running flat out which potentially can extend the life of the laptop

      Thank you for your reply. I don't mind my blade 16 needing to recharge.
      I fear that it, like an older lenovo legion 7 I used to own, starts rapidly switching between charging and discharging cycles. Have you noticed issues like that?
      I think about testing it with a timespy stress test on 60 hearth refresh rate. If the blade can do that without discharging, I know that it is only using the 100 watt supplied. If it discharges it needs more. In that case it might switch between charging and discharging and it might be better to avoid using the 4080rtx when on PD.
      I hoped that you tried something like that so that I don't have to ;)

      It might be of some interessting to you: Without undervolting, my blade 16 with 4080rtx fails the timespy stress test (20 cycles) with only 42% stability. BUT it does not discharge the battery. That is kind of a win for me. Nobody expects amazing results while on PD. But the system works and windows did not show unusual charging or discharging events (using in powershell "powercfg /batteryreport"). So I will use the PD charger regularly.
      Thanks again for your video. Looking forward to the next even though I hope I don't need it for some years.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure you utilise the undervolt too as that gives you more performance per watt (so essentially free extra performance and very noticable on PD). I have been using my blade 16 regularly with only my thunderbolt dock and it handles my video editing, day to day work and light gaming amazing with just 1 cable! If I want to play some heavier AAA games I grab the charger

    Hi Dave! Not sure if you're tracking updates to this thread, but needed to ask... The Blade 16 with Mini LED has horrible blooming and color accuracy (no option for single zone like Asus). I see lots of posts - but, nothing really happening to fix this... I'm going to swap my machine for the QHD 240 ( -> that's your fault - since I can see you love the blade 18 so much! hehe) - but wish I didn't have to (I like 4K). Have you seen these problems on any of the Razers you're testing?

I haven't got my hands on the Razer Mini Led Panel so I cannot comment on that but the IPS QHD panel is amazing so I would definitely recommend switching for that (and maybe get them to give you the 18 instead as I am loving that laptop so much more than the 16 which has really surprised me)

    Do you think with the 16’s bigger design it will help with longevity of the use of the laptop with its somewhat better thermals and being able to use more watts to previous years models? That’s always been my fear with razors is the hotness they produce and longevity of use with the hot thermals. Hopefully the battery charging limiter helps with the bloat issues. I just bought my first blade and it’s the 16 variant. Waiting patiently for it as it’s coming this upcoming week. I had a problem with a work Blade 15 where the graphics just gave up completely and the Razer customer service was a bit of a nightmare. My blade 13 from 2016 is still running perfectly though! I’m hoping that the thicker design of the 16 will give it a better longevity
